Jay Elston (Owner) came out to quote and see the job. I was doing all the prep work myself (properly) and he made some important suggestions that I had not thought off. He also came in with the highest quote (10 % higher) but we went with him anyhow because his quote was all inclusive. He sent over an experienced plumbing team (Kevin about 11 years exp) and his Journeyman's Assistant Christine (Current local plumbing student and intern). Kevin is super organized and very skilled. The job was broken into two parts as we had to get blue board and plaster done after tub/shower install and copper rough in. They came back today (8-26-23) and took care of everything. Called in these folks since previous owner used them to install the central air. My problem was AC…read morewas not turning on due to no power on Y1 on thermostat. After coming in when I explained what's the issue and how this 'no power on Y1' happened back in February, the tech basically said it's a thermostat problem and need to call the Nest/electrician (also how they never work with nest thermostat which is bizarre tbh). Me knowing a bit about HVAC, asked him to jump Y1 and RC wire and AC should turn on if it's a thermostat problem. He then said yes, I can try that. Sure enough it didn't work and proved that it's NOT a thermostat problem. Then he finally went to the attic to check the air handler and did something with the condensate Safe T switch and AC started running. There was recent insulation work from MASSSAVE and he said the issue is from the insulation work, even though the problem (no power to Y1) happened back to February (and I just had to disconnect the wire from the thermostat since no need to cool the house back then). Long story short, I have expected more than "masssave caused the problem" . Who knows if the condensate drain is clogged or something and if that caused the shutoff. At the very least I needed a rootcause of the problem. But this guy went down right away and got to his car and said service call would be $180. I hate leaving bad reviews to local business but I really had an odd experience. Leaving 2 star since AC is working, for now, but I am pretty much sure if condensate drain clog is the issue this will fail again and then there would be another $180 "service call".
