This is a long review, because it explains the unnecessarily complicated marketing/billing system of Fagundes, which is error prone and easily overcharges the customer. A little under a year ago, I hired Fagundes for bigger job that I was satisfied with, and had decent pricing. However, to get the "reasonable price", I had to pay $89 for a 1 year "Home Care Membership", which has a main perk of getting you a "20% discount" on all repairs service, of which that job qualified for. Most of you business savvy people will read that, and translate it to: The 20% discount on all repairs is the "real" price which requires an $89 buy-in, and if you don't pay the membership fee well too bad you're paying for it anyway with 20% higher pricing on all work done by Fagundes. That is what their marketing business model REALLY is with their "membership", to be clear. It also capitalizes on sunk cost fallacy - you PAID for a membership - are really you not going to use it again? Use Fagundes for amazing 20% discounts on work for your future plumbing needs! Problem is, even with the supposed 20% "discount", their prices are absurd for smaller jobs. And without the "membership", it's crazy gouging. But, I was happy with my prior experience, So I called in to have a plumber replace two corroded valves and two emergency shutoff knobs under a sink I had. In order to book the appointment, the lady on the phone told me I had to immediately pay $65 as a diagnostic fee and for "reserving my spot" - that $65 fee is credited/applied to the job cost if you approve of their quote for work; OK, apparently that's their standard procedure. I have a picture of the "before", and picture of the "after" of the job done, when the tech came. To be clear, I don't have complaints about the tech's work. It was fine. What did they charge for that work pictured? Just over $420. For a solid hour of work (no more than an hour, but pretty close to it.) You aren't given a labor cost - just a cost with no real breakdown. So if you are given a quote like $420, and you think "oh they're probably building in 1.5 hours or 2 hours of labor", and then it's less than an hour, well too bad you already approved the cost! And by the way, I had to pay $89 earlier in the year for the "privilege" of paying $420 for that work. Without my "membership", it would have been over $500 (I confirmed with their phone receptionist). Again, two valves, two knobs, replaced in under an hour. For that price. Ridiculous. It gets "better" though. The tech on my bill listed the $65 diagnostic fee on my bill, zeroed it out (canceling it effectively), and charged my card $420. All good right? WRONG. Remember how I mentioned I had to pay $65 just to BOOK the appointment? So really I should have been charged $420 MINUS $65, for a total charge after the work for $355. If forcing customers to prepay $65 for an appointment is normal procedure, then the tech should know and BY DEFAULT subtract $65 from the final bill, unless dispatch tells them otherwise. Because how else could I make the appointment? I'm guessing that management does not tell the techs and dispatch employees the same thing on how customer payment is handled. Techs are not properly trained that customers MUST pay the $65 upfront, and it is charged by office staff already prior to the appointment. So, the techs think they are supposed to handle the diagnostic fee themselves, and they zero it out if the customer approves the work. So, if a perceptive customer calls in later and goes "hey wait a minute, I already paid the diagnostic fee days ago to book the appointment - I should be paying $65 LESS than what you quoted me", Fagundes basically gets to go "Oh haha, our mistake. This TOTALLY doesn't happen often", and the customer isn't any the wiser - it's just an honest mistake of course! Seriously, why do they have this convoluted "diagnostic prepayment" system in the first place, and why do their techs not seem to bill properly with it in mind? I'll leave that for you to decide. Again, awfully convenient that when they make a "mistake" regarding that, the customer is out an extra $65. In summary, I will not be returning to Fagundes, due to shady/convoluted pricing that is prone to error that overcharges customers, and also because even with their "member discount", their pricing is ridiculous (at least with smaller jobs). And FUGEDABOUTIT if you don't pay their membership fee - it's even more insane. As some bonus tidbits, Fagundes sends multiple nags to leave them a review after service - that's why there's so many google reviews; it's a tactic that works unfortunately. Also, they won't let you use any coupons if you have a membership. They say the "membership" is an offer and you can't stack offers. Seriously. I wish I was joking. read more

He is very knowledgeable and honest. He gave me options that I can choose and estimate of the cost. Most of the time the price for the work is reasonable but the last job came in much higher than expected, however we were able to work through that and proceed with the job. The first floor unit is in an unsightly location not where I thought it would be installed and is slightly uneven with ceiling. The installation of the whole system was neat and quickly done. Problem with boiler. It stopped working and was blowing cool air. Called for service. First visit, said nothing was wrong and charged $90. Problem continued. Called again. Second visit, change igniter and charged 600$ Problem persisted. Called again. Returned to clean the system. Waived fee when I complained. Problem continued, so we got in touch again. Responded " This is high tech, could be several problems, we can try different things but we cannot guarantee we can fix the problem." They should have told me this from day one before spending 700$. It could be from 100 to several thousand dollars with no guarantee that the problem will be fixed. Serviced the unit one year ago with this company and it was all ok, no problems at all. Al and his team are very professional and took care of a large project from beginning to end. We had a decades old steam boiler (oil) that had been sputtering along through the past few winters. We knew it was time to upgrade and change to gas. Al was very knowledgable in the process of going through the mass save program too. Well, we now have a 98% efficient water heater, 2 new zones of heat and a highly efficient boiler. We are speculating to save significant money each month during the heating season and reducing our hot water bill in half each month. I reached out to A. Fagundes Plumbing and Heating Inc after the plumber that installed the water heater system in this 2-year-old home came three times over the last 15 months to fix the malfunctioning system with no lasting success. The last time was on a Thursday. He came and did the repairs for 4 hours, the machine turned only to fail again that same night. I called him but there was no response. This time I needed a second opinion, so I called A. Fagundes Plumbing and Heating who came on Friday morning, checked out the equipment, and told me that the visible corroded parts of this new equipment was causing the problem and that given the age of the machine, he was going to push the manufacturer for a replacement at their cost. He got on the phone and by 1:30 PM, his team was back at the house with brand-new equipment that they installed by 3:00 PM. It's good to work with someone that knows who to call and what to do. In July, 2016 I had A. Fagundes Plumbing & Heating replace my old oil boiler with a tankless combination gas boiler/forced hot water system. It was a good experience from end to end: They were much more transparent about their pricing than any of the other contractors I spoke to, which led to a final quote of nearly half what the other guys wanted to charge me. Their sales consultant explained to me that he left his last job with a larger company due to disagreements he had over their institutionalized price gouging, and accurately guessed what the other contractors had quoted me as "book price". They were able to begin work within 10 days, and once they got started the whole job only took about a day and a half. I'm pretty sure they left my (unfinished) basement cleaner than when they started. We haven't had cold enough weather to fully test the heat yet, but the hot water has been working well so I don't anticipate any problems. I'd definitely call on these guys again for a job like this. read more

Also, the person on the phone , Allison???(Jazelle no longer works there so no accountability will be tied to this company just because an old administrator is gone) just wants to blame her predecessor! Professionalism is completely out the window in their administrator in the office, and they do not tell you that there is a $95 charge for them to send someone out to fix what they screwed up in the first place! DO NOT SOLELY RELY ON BBB! It's inaccurate because I tried to write my complaint and it would not show up on their website. Update: I hope my review shows up on BBB, here's what they wrote back to me: "We are sorry that you did not have a pleasant experience with our company. We have been in business for almost 15 years and have a number of customers that can attest to the competency of our technicians, as well as our service. Naturally, we take reviews like yours very seriously in our office. The garbage disposal that you are referring to was installed on January 27, 2017, and came with a 30-Day Warranty. This was written on the invoice, which was signed by either you, or your husband at the time of install. You placed a service request for that same garbage disposal on November 17, 2017, and your appointment was scheduled for today, December 1, 2017. At the time of that service call, you explained that the garbage disposal had been leaking for awhile, but did not specify when exactly the leak had started. Our technician looked at your garbage disposal today and determined it was beyond repair due to corrosion and recommended replacing it. (Here's my question... why would the garbage disposal that I got from A Fagundes only last me until 8 months? They said this should last me up to 12 years!!) Had you contacted us when you first noticed the leak, and it was within that 30 day period, we would certainly have replaced the garbage disposal at no cost to you. However, since it has been just over 10 months, the warranty is no longer valid. This was the same explanation you received when you called our office this morning to express your dissatisfaction. We stand behind our work and our employees. As far as the employee you are alluding to in this post, they were in no way responsible for the install of your garbage disposal. We tell all of our customers that we are happy to help them if they should have any future problems with work that we have completed, or other separate plumbing and HVAC issues, and that is the truth. If that statement were to be interpreted by everyone to mean free service and repairs outside of warranty periods, then I can say with confidence that we would be out of business. Again, we apologize that your most recent experience with our company was not a positive one, and appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback with us. " Here's another question... If this representative knew that it was out of warranty (as I was not aware of this and my invoice does NOT state this) why did she reschedule an appointment for someone to come out to service the garbage disposal that they placed and installed?????? Also, they asked me for $95 for the individual to come out. NO! Do your due diligence and find out what your customer's complaints are, and be honest about your pricing! I felt bad for the tech (he was a nice guy), but honestly I paid $518 for my old garbage disposal to be replaced and installed for it to only last 10 months! Let me start this with some solid praise for Al, Sam and the team at A Fagundes. My furnace was down for a couple of days over new years and new years eve and given this cold snap, not a single local company had the bandwidth to take on new customers. After calling no less than 15 different companies, A Fagundes and team took us on. Sam, their second in command, came by and fixed some old hatchet wiring work. He noticed the heat exchange had cracked and was seeping small amounts of CO into the vents. The furnace pre-dated my purchase of the house (well over 12 years) so we agreed it was time to look at a new furnace. Al, the owner, came out, sized out the proper BTUs and we settled on a Maytag 2 stage, pushing 60,000 BTUs. I have a split level ranch, so more than enough to heat and cool. He found a slot for me on Friday morning. His team showed up, they were professional quick and had it installed and up in running in no time. Moral of the story here is simple: when you're in a bind, Al and team will do everything they can to step up and win your business; new customer or not. read more

I had been considering switching to gas but was hesitant due to the perceived cost. I researched the differences in furnaces online and was unable to find an estimate for the cost of converting from oil to gas. I contacted a few other contractors and without hesitation received quotes that ranged from $10,000.00 to $20,000.00. This was extremely frustrating as I could not get an accurate quote. We walked through the entire house and basement so that you could make your assessment as accurately as possible. You evaluated my current electrical setup to ensure that there was adequate power and you recognized that we needed to validate that we did not have any knob and tube wiring. We then reviewed multiple options for not only a new furnace, but the addition of central air conditioning as well. You provided me with two written quotes depending on which furnace I chose and also added the cost information for insulating the duct work. You then mentioned that you would be providing me with quotes that I would need to use in order to participate in the Mass Saves program. I was stunned. I was not expecting such a high level of service based on my past experiences. It was at this point that I knew that I needed to hire you as the contractor for the job. From the very beginning, Kelly worked closely with me to make sure that I received all of the necessary paperwork and she walked me through the entire process from beginning to end. She was extremely helpful in assisting me with acquiring the necessary information to obtain the interest-free loan. When your team arrived on site, they were exceptionally pleasant, quiet and diligent. George and Kevin began work immediately and were always on time and professional. The coordination of the entire process was impressive. George worked with his crew and sub-contractors as though he were conducting an orchestra.
