The clerks here are well-informed and friendly. To those complaining about the price of the items - stock seems to support local / domestic businesses. The brands stocked are reputable and not priced unreasonably for the consistent high quality that you will be receiving with many of these items. I would rather buy a cat bowl from a place with pet health in mind, which will account for the needs of the cat, rather than some random piece of plastic/potential lead infected made in China crap that may give my cat acne or make them sick. Your pet's health is worth it. On one occasion I entered the store, I overheard a clerk mention they weren't pleased with how a company responded to a cat getting sick to their product; so they removed it from their shelves. To me, this clearly shows they care about the well-being of the customers' pets! The food here ranges to accommodate all manner of diets. Raw/cooked, low processed, small-batch, locally/domestically owned business - high protein, low carb dry kibble - or a myriad of wet can varieties and brands to pick from. They sometimes provide free samples, which helps in trying new items for your furry friends when the price point can be steep. read more

Pet Barn has a bakery case filled with the cutest birthday cookies, cakes, cannolis, donuts, etc.! The store also carries a lot of diet and allergy friendly treats and food for animals. One of my pets is allergic to poultry, barley, flax, and eggs so it can be hard to find a variety of treats for him. I decided that instead of keeping a live animal in my house, I'd just keep a miniature barn, and pretend it was an animal. I call it my Pet Barn. Everyone should have a barn for a pet, it's great. So little maintenance and it never needs food. This is a lovely pet store which feels locally-owned in Fulton but probably isn't, or then again maybe it is. I can't be sure either way but they're really friendly and have a huge amount of organic products, which is good. I can't give them five stars with the prices being this high, but almost every pet store seems to be a rip-off these days, so it's not like these guys are the only ones doing that. read more

I really like this place - it has a huge selection of collars and toys, plus it has the freeze-dried snacks my cat loves. Sure I could order it in bulk of amazon, but I like to support local businesses and I like chatting with the employees in here because they just know so much about animals. I had driven past this store many times and my daughter has wanted to visit. I usually skip it because I'm leaving the mall and I'm totally spent. I just went in there and they were so rude. Nobody spoke when I came in so I walked around with no direction. When I made my way to both employees... still they would not look at me. I pray that I did not receive that treatment because I am brown, but either way... Pet Barn has a nice selection of your high end dog foods. For a while, I was feeding my baby Canine Caviar which has dehydrated chicken, and a bunch of other good stuff. I appreciated the fact that Pet Barn had a frequent buyers program so I would get stamped everytime I purchased a bag. I have since returned to Nutra Natural Choice. For one, many of the high ends don't come in extremely large bags. That's fine for your average chicken nugget frou frou "dog" but it doesn't work for the big dogs. And there's nothing more I hate than having to pick up dog food. Pet Barn also has an extensive bakery selection. Really cute treats, and birthday "cakes" etc. My favorite purchase was a dog whistle for my German Shorthaired Pointer. Not only was there a picture of a pointer on the package, BUT it was MADE IN GERMANY!!! Oh yeah, I got a made in Germany dog whistle. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Been going to this place even when it was located in Burtonsville, MD but it has since moved here and it's a very nice shopping center, fairly new. They have so many good treats for your pet and they are all very good. Organic and healthy. I ONLY buy my dogs treats and food from here. Short hair lady is pretty rude. Greeted the couple in front of us and when we walked in , she stared at us. Every aisle we went to she was making sure to see what we were doing. So blatant to the point that she didn't know someone was waiting to get checked out. Oh and she also made sure to stand on her tippy toes in certain parts of the store that she couldn't see :). The store is nice and comes with plenty of parking. The selection of foods and accessories is good, although some foods are quite expensive. I will be forever grateful to Pet Barn for "curing" my cats severe allergies, when a specialist dermatologist couldn't do it. How did they do it? They recommended raw foods. I have since switched all of my pets to raw. They offer good practical advice when it's needed. They are honest too. When I forgot an item I had paid for, they tracked me down and called me at home. They also help local rescues with their work. The only objection I have is the design and layout of the store: both could be improved for aesthetic appeal and convenience. We were immediately greeted and provided the most fantastic personalized assistance for all the products that we were interested in learning more about. They even gave us a sample of raw cat food to try to see if it would work for our kitten. The level of expertise that was shared was something you rarely find in stores and so very much appreciated. There used to be a local pet store in the area called simply "A Pet". They carried a hard-to-find brand of rabbit food, so I would go there occasionally to get a bag or two. (Their frequent buyer program was actually called "Club A Pet".) I once tried to order a larger size bag than what they usually carried, and they told me it would be no problem and took my phone number. I never heard from them, and it was a few months before I made it back to the store to stock up. I once again inquired about ordering a larger size, and they told me they thought they had one in the back. They went to look, and brought up the large bag with my phone number taped to it. When I asked why they never called, I was told, "Oh, we only call if there is a problem with the order." I replied, "Like if I never pick it up?" Unsurprisingly, they aren't in business anymore. It can still be difficult to find a pet store that carries this brand, so I was glad to see the company listed Pet Barn as a vendor and they had a convenient location in Maple Lawn (I didn't know there was anything in Maple Lawn that wasn't related to liquor.) While they mainly cater to the high end doggy market, including a doggy treat bakery store on premises, they also have a good range of items for other pets, including rabbits. (Okay, it's a small range, but a good one.) While they only had the small sizes of food as well, I again inquired about ordering a larger size. The staff was helpful, but sadly the company no longer offered the largest size I wanted, but they did help me order the largest size available. That night, however, I received a phone call at home from the store. They were able to find a vendor that offered the size I wanted and asked if I did indeed want that. I confirmed I did and thanked them for their helpfulness and business acumen. I think they'll be in business a long while. read more

This place is amazing! I have a picky pooch and I have sampled nearly every pet food they carry. I went from dry to dry/wet to jut wet and now I am trying out raw. What I love the most is they do not try and sell you on the most expensive. They have even told me I could feed my dog less then the recommended feeding amount which save me money, save my pooch from getting fat, and not give them as much profit. However, I have compared their dog food and grooming products to other stores (Bark in Clarksville, Pawlitics and Whole Pets in Rockville, and Dogs & Company in Columbia) and it averages 2-3 dollars more. Not the type of place that I have the need (or the money) to shop in, but if you have an animal with dietary needs or have the money to feed your animal natural/organic food then this is a good place to find it. Oh my god. Where do I start??? My Rottie puppy was diagnosed as allergic to chicken by his vet. After 3 trips and hundreds of dollars later he was still sick. Every visit they kept prescribing "Royal Canin" prescription diet and all of them had chicken. Very distraught and almost defeated a neighbor told me about Pet Barn. He told me to go talk to any of the employees and he was sure they would guide me in the right direction. I visited them on Monday September 25th and brought King with me. The ladies were so saddened by his story of horrible vet treatment. They listened and showed me different options of foods that had NO CHICKEN and were great for his tummy issues. (He had diarrhea on and off for 4 months) I bought a huge bag of Pure Vida Salmon and Pea entree. Took him home. He devoured it. After one day his tummy issues cleared up and he's gaining weight and back to his puppy self again. I'm so glad I came to Pet Barn and so glad they were able to help Kingy! Kings tummy issues have been controlled for over 2 weeks now and everything is looking up from here. These ladies are the best! They answer all of your weird questions and show no judgement. I can't say enough good things about Pet Barn. They only stock the best quality food and their staff is very helpful. One woman helped me figure out that my dog had an allergy to chicken which was the very thing my vet kept telling me to feed him. I removed the chicken and within a week his allergies had cleared almost completely. She is training to be a holistic vet and is so knowledgeable. It is amazing in this area to walk into a store and be greeted by name and have them ask how my dogs are. Highly recommend Pet Barn! read more

Good staff - they carry hard to find raw food diet products - definitely worth the trip

I have been coming to Pet Barn for almost 10 years and followed them from two previous locations. I have always appreciated the selection and staffs' willingness to answer questions. That said, they completely lost my business last week when I went in looking for a non-grain free food option, having come directly from my vet with a diagnosis requiring a food change. The staff member I spoke with started immediately with how wrong my vet was and how there is no supporting research except for the research by the food companies touting their products. Again, I came directly from my trusted vet of 20 years WITH research on the condition. I could not believe how I was being lectured on the subject, and told directly that I was wrong and hurting my dogs by changing food. I will never return to this store. Ever. There are other, closer, shops (eg:Bark/Loyal Companion) who are at least sympathetic to a pet parent and equally kind and helpful. After speaking to my vet yesterday in a follow up, she mentioned that I was the third or fourth person who has had the same experience with Pet Barn in Fulton over the last week. I am sympathetic to the store and their business... everything is grain free and they need to sell their stock, but I do not appreciate, as a customer since 2010 who is know by many staff, being demeaned and accused of harming my dogs health by following veterinary directives. I would encourage Kelly to really talk to her staff and clarify her expectations of customer service. read more
