I have been going to this branch for more than 2 years and now all of a sudden one of the employee in that location was trying to make some extra money by asking 20$ more just to take good care of my dog. When I take it for grooming. Petco needs to hire more professionals and not side money hustlers. This is so disrespectful for the pet lovers in the neighborhood. This is not tolerated. I personally wanted to leave a review because of the customer service we got by this lady named Anna. She was really helpful with getting us get fish while the store seemed very understaffed. Super knowledgeable about the aquatics & probably the best customer service in a retail store that I've gotten in years. In addition to Anna being so helpful while other customers were impatient... and vocalizing that.. - the fish themselves all looked healthy in the tanks & well taken care of. I got lost coming here and it didn't help that the day I decided to come here was foggier than it had been in a while. I actually ended up turning into the wrong place at first. When I finally did get to the right place I went inside and was looking for parts for the liter box I have. I went to the cat section and looked around for a bit. Like other places it appeared that all the parts had disappeared from the shelves. I looked around for a bit more and then ended up going up front to ask an employee if they knew if there were any items left. She escorted me back to the cat section again, pulled out here store handheld and looked it up. She did notice there were a few items still left in store. She helped me to find them, as they were hidden on an endcap. She told me they were clearance as they were discontinued, I was aware of that. However, they were on clearance more than what they were showing in their system. I appreciated the stellar customer service I got here. So much so that I browsed a bit more and picked up a few other items. As soon as I left here, I called my family members to ask them to keep an eye out at other locations if they come upon any of those items. read more

I came here to get a fish tank package for my daughter and I am a total noob at the entire fish experience. After attempting to piece together what I would need, a very friendly associate named Noah came to my rescue and guided me through the best way to assemble what I need. He was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the process and was able to present me with choices that helped me customize my package. He probably spent 20 minutes with me explaining the basic rudiments of fish tankery, from good bacteria to the feng shui of decor. I left feeling capable of handling this newfound responsibility. We will be back in about a week for the fish selection process. I highly recommend seeking out Noah as he will prove to be a useful ally in whatever you're looking to get. read more

UPDATE: my dog is now literally bleeding from this shoddy grooming job. This is ridiculous. -------- NEVER get your dog groomed here. We specifically asked our groomer to keep a fair amount of length on our dog, even going so far as pointing to a specific picture. She came back looking like a naked molerat, not a Westie. Worse still, there are several patches where they literally shaved her down to the SKIN. See the picture. They also nicked her on her paw. My dog has been incredibly itchy and has been suffering ever since she came back. It's been really sad to watch her be in discomfort and pain like this. We're never going back here. read more

We had some errands to do, pick up some groceries, a bottle of wine, and dog treats. Burtonsville with a Giant, liquor store and Petco on one block was the place to go. I went into Petco where they have bins of dog treats at reasonable cost per pound, and you select what you want. The bins identify the ingredients in each treat so you know what you're getting. I am one of those people who would have Christmas decorations up year round, so when I walked in the store and immediately saw a table displaying Christmas pet gifts, including boxes of seasonal treats, I was happy. It seemed like there was only one person working in the store and when I found her she pointed me in the right direction to find the treats. She was very pleasant when I checked out. I have never used their grooming as I have my dogs groomed at home by a mobile groomer. read more

Clean store with caring costumer service. They carry everything you may need for your pets. They also have a grooming center but do schedule in advance because they are usually pretty busy. Also make sure you got your pet's medical records with shots etc before you schedule the Appt. They sell birds, hamsters, amphibians, and fish. I would give it a 5 out of 5 because their parking lot rocks but I feel they can be a bit expensive. read more

I believe the location on Washington Blvd in Laurel is closed. This may be its replacement. It is located in the shopping center on the corner of Rte 29 and Rte 198, towards the back, near the Giant. IMO from a afar, this place looks much bigger than what it really is. The store itself is smaller than other PETCOs, but it is clean. Things are relatively easy to find and the staff are pretty cool. AVOID PETCO VITAL CARE. I buy maybe $30/month of food and litter for my two cats, and when I was buying some things at Petco the clerk enthusiastically described some plan where you pay $21 a month, then you get back $15 every month and get savings on everything and $20 back for vet bills. It sounded like I would save $2 or $3 a month so I said yes. Big mistake. You don't just get back the $15 - for who knows what reason you have to log into their site or app and "transfer" it to your account, $5 at a time. The money you get back does not stay in your account; you have to use it within a couple of weeks or it disappears. It is very easy to wind up losing money on this "savings" program, which is unique in my experience. Clearly it's Petco versus their customers. I took my cat to the vet, came to the store and asked all the clerks how I could get my $20 back; no one knew and they said I should call customer service. I called customer service to cancel my membership and I was told I could not; it auto bills for a year and auto renews (they cancelled that part for me). The woman on the phone (who was very polite and apparently talks to a large number of unhappy customers) said she would be happy to explain the program to me, which totally misses the point. I don't want someone to explain their program; I want a program that does not require explaining. I spend twenty or thirty times as much at grocery stores as I do at Petco and I have never had to phone for an explanation; I just scan my card or phone app and I save money. It is impossible to lose money at the grocery store, which is easy to do at Petco. Whatever executive designed this seems to think that saving me $2 or $3 a month makes Petco as important to me as it is to him or her - it does not. Once my membership in this infernal program expires I am headed to Petsmart. read more

This store is never really busy. It's always dead. The employees are so slow and can never figure out how to process coupons or deals. The store is a little small compared to other stores in the area. I brought my pup here for a grooming appointment. There was only one groomer and I told her specifically not to cut too much on the face. She completely butchered my dog's hair. Everything was uneven and she looked like a hot mess. On top of that, when I came in to pick her up - the groomer was outside smoking with her friends for a good 20 minutes. I had to ask another employee in the store to get my pup from the back, and that took another 20 minutes because they couldn't find my leash. Even after the whole ordeal, I still tipped the groomer on my way out. She barely looked at me, grabbed the money out of my hand and continued to smoke with her friends. Not even a simple "Thank you" or "Thanks". I come here to grab some food since it is on my way to work, otherwise I steer away. read more

Nice, clean store. As my dogs are litter trained, this is one of the few pet stores that carry dog litter - that alone makes it my go-to pet store. This store also carries high quality pet foods that are hypoallergenic, wheat-free, with simple recipes. This is great considering one of my dogs has food allergies, etc. My dogs are also finicky eaters and every food or treat doesn't agree with them. I've never had a problem returning opened food, treats, etc. The staff is professional, helpful, and friendly. The store is located maybe 5 minutes from my home. I recently took my Bichon pup to this location and I am glad I took him here. Butter is my first dog that I rescued and I have no experience on grooming. They cut him pretty short but I liked it since he is super fluffy and he gets dirty super quick. Bridget was the groomer and she was great with Butter. The only reason why I didn't give the place 5 star is because the pricing was inaccurate when they explained it to me. They said I would get a discount but it seemed to not be the way they explained it to me. read more

Our experience hasn't been great with their grooming. Our first time was okay, our second visit went wrong when or dogs leg was cut and had to go to the animal hospital. All was forgiven and they were very apologetic, but the hospital made us wait a while because Petco was covering the medical bill and their credit card wasn't working. While we tried to call to finish the grooming the next day, the manager asked if we could make an appointment instead of just showing up, then when we called to make an appointment the groomer was "sick". We gave up after that and just finished his haircut at home. We don't think we will be returning but if we do we hope we get a better experience. read more

This place is alright, but pricey compared to PetSmart. They don't have a lot of variety but they do carry some foods and treats that PetSmart doesn't. This specific place has good parking but the inside of the place is dry. When you walk in it's not a welcoming atmosphere, at least for my experience. I also wanted to add on that some employees were on their phone upon customers walking in. Also at check out I was rushed to be checked out. This is likely the worst Petco store I've visited. I understand there might be limited retail space and things at this store are really crowded. Where the real issue lies is with staff who seem to not care about their jobs, who do bare minimums for customer service, and who move so slowly you want to grab a leash and choke chain off the shelf and pull them along. Certainly so much just in employee attitudes could be improved. Go elsewhere if you need help. Update 3/31/18: I needed something quick today and stopped by this store. There was completely different staff with two registers running and another person working the fish area who helped me within a couple minutes. Much improved experience. Walked in with out an appointment and was seen right way I must say, Lesline was very professioal and did a wonderful job. 6 stars if you ask me! Called this morning and was able to be squeezed in today at 12:30. I got there early and was taken right back. Chelsea was fabulous! I have a 1.5 yr old Rottweiler who is super hyper. He was in and out in less than an hour. Smelled great and his nails which were like CLAWS were cut down super low. In fact lower than the Vet was able to get them. I'm super impressed and will definitely be returning!!!! If you go, ask for Chelsea!!! read more

Today, my Chihuahua had his nails trimmed but before Lesline trimmed his nails, I informed her that my dog is very feisty and I prefer that my husband holds him while she trims his nails. She said no and took my dog and put him on the table and hooked the short leash to his harness roughly. I watched with deep concern. When she finished trimming my dog's nails, she turned her back and my dog suddenly became very nervous and was about to fall. I rushed to stop my dog from possible fall or dangling with the short leash. I was so mad at Lesline for being reckless. When I arrived home, I immediately called the corporate office about the bad way Lesline handled my dog. Thought you should be aware. I'm glad my dog is calm and ok now. We will never go back there unless Lesline is not working there anymore. read more

First took me almost two months to get an appointment for grooming. ( totally understand with COVID and all it's going to take longer) got an appointment FINALLY. My dog literally had the worst quarantine nails. On my way there they call me to cancel.... wait.. what!? Apparently the groomer had injured herself and wasn't able to come in. Ok , I was already half way there....... I was trying to be understanding, however the girl on the other end was not making it easy for me to be compassionate... not an " I'm sorry" ... " I will reschedule you as soon as possible" ... NO. I got .... " I mean... she will call you and "try " to reschedule you when she can" ... " accidents happen" YES idiot accidents do happen . BUT have some work ethic and act professional!!!! Guess what....!?!? I still have not received A phone call to reschedule... needless to say I wouldn't of taken that appointment anyway... read more

We have been taking our doberman pinscher to Christina at Petco for over 1 year. Our dog is not dog friendly and Christina always makes sure he is her first client. I went to Petco- Burtonsville for the first time to get my Maltese groomed. I have heard horror stories of pets coming out botched at chain pet stores but my little pup was in dire need of a grooming because my usual groomers were fully booked that day. I called in and made an appointment and I was able to walk right in. Jackie was the associate who helped me and she was awesome! She was very nice and caring to my dog and was very thorough on how much hair would be cut. The full process took approximately 2 hours and she called me right away when she was completed because she knew Jeter would have anxiety. The grooming total was $72 which included a cut, bath, ear cleaning, teeth cleaning, and nail clipping. read more

I've been bringing my dogs to this location to be groomed for a couple of years, and I'm so pleased with their service that I now drive them there all the way from Gaithersburg. Everyone there does a great job, but John is the one that has handled my girls the most and he is just fantastic. The prices are reasonable and it's usually easy to get a last-minute appointment if you need one. I looked for a groomer for a long time, and I'm glad that I found this place. Recommended. read more
