Pet City receives its puppies from puppy mills in Missouri! Please do not help support the cruel puppy mill business by buying puppies at these stores in Aurora and Colorado Springs. Puppy mill dogs are bred repeatedly in small wire enclosures that deform their limbs and they never receive vet care. Common health problems of breeding dogs include blindness, rotting jaws, burns on legs from living in their own urine and filth and any number of infections. These dogs are never allowed outside and receive no human interaction. These are the parents of the dogs you buy in Pet City pet stores! When they are too old or sick to breed they are often taken outback and shot. As for the puppies that wind up in pet stores, they live the first 8 weeks of their life in the same disgusting cage that their mom lives in and then are taken away at 8 weeks (at least 4 weeks earlier than recommended by vets). They are then shipped by the hundreds to puppy stores around the country and are sold to unsuspecting consumers who usually end up with sick puppies and piles of vet bills. Went in to visit with a dog after calling ahead. After visiting, found out the dog was a whopping $800! Asked if they did any senior discounts and the owner/manager brushed the question off suggesting if I didn't have the money I should look at cheaper pets. Otherwise, go elsewhere where he was sure the pets would cost more. Zero customer service ability and zero respect. Filthy conditions, obviously sick animals and about 15 kids messing with the animals without supervision make this a place I would never buy a pet from! Stay far far away. read more

Don't do it. Seriously, just don't go in here- save yourself the heartbreak of leaving all the critters in filthy conditions with incompetent and pushy employees shoving them on families unprepared for the addition of a pet. And for heaven's sakes, don't buy anything- not a thing. I came in because, as far as I know, they don't sell rats here; at least, there were none when I wandered in. This is a good thing because I avoid stores that carry rats so as not to sicken my own little ratties with strange viruses and bacteria. I went right back out after seeing the awful conditions in which the mill-bred pets were kept- that little doggie in the window is obviously full of worms in side, and how much? Well, the sticker price likely doesn't reflect the thousands a RESPONSIBLE owner would end up having to spend on vet care for the many problems likely brought on by the inbreeding and puppy mill breeding stores like this support. Rude staff member ruins this place. My partner and I have stopped into this location on a few occasions to see a sweet little Brussels Griffon they have had for quite sometime. We have been kind of going back and forth about the affordability of the puppy so stop in on occasion to see if her price has dropped. Each occasion we have visited the store the same young female staff member has been there, and on each occasion she has been rude, dismissive, and disrespectful. In fact my partner wouldn't even go into the store this time because she was working this evening. Today was the last straw. I stopped in to ask about the puppy price and was cut off "she's still $600 and she's not going down in price even if she's here in 2 months, which she probably will be" Wow! I then asked if I could have the managers/owners contact information which she declined to give me. Advice: This staff member should be dismissed as she clearly doesn't know how to interact with customers and has a blatant bad attitude which is clearly affecting sales. We will not be stopping by again and when we decide to add another puppy to our family we will purchase from "Just Pets" where we bought or current dog as their staff is warm and friendly. read more

I super like this pet store because they always have a lot of puppies. I have gone here before just to look at and pet the puppies, but I am not sure if I would buy one here because all of the dogs seem to have a white crust on their nose. The staff is sure nice except the owner who seems arrogant and very rude to his staff. He walks around the store like a god and the ruler of all talking down to people on the phone. If I did buy a dog here I would be afraid if something went wrong and I had to deal with him because he seemed like a jerk. They do not have a lot of stuff besides puppies and it seems like this is their primary income source so do not buy your food here because it seems old, the bags have dust on them. Bought a dog here. Within 2 weeks of ownership a vet pointed out the dog was sick. The dog was put down 5 days later from a genetic disease. The owner is very nice, I just know that the purebred dogs from here are all from puppy mills! Responsible breeders test their dogs for this genetic code. Don't do it research your breeder before getting a dog from here. The cats are local neighborhood cats so not so bad seeing as they'd just be put to sleep in all reality. I wish I could give them zero stars. I bought a rat from them, and I asked the employee who was helping me all the questions I could think of about how to take good care of her. I came home armed with as much information as I'd ever need -- or so I thought. After some brief online research, I realised that many of the things the Pet City employee had told me about rats were completely false. In fact, just about every question was answered incorrectly. He recommended I use pine chips for bedding -- which is bad for rats, gerbil seed mix for food -- nutritionally inappropriate for rats, as well as containing alfalfa and corn which can be bad for them, and worst of all, he allowed me to buy a single rat, when rats NEED to be adopted at least in pairs, or they become very unhappy. I called the manager of the Pet City where I bought her, and told him what I found out, but he was unwilling to accept my complaints, claiming that my research was wrong and his employee was right. Unfortunately I have checked many resources, and as much as I would LIKE to be wrong, I am not. He said that all of the rats in his store are fed gerbil mix and live in pine bedding, and that he allows people to take one single rats all the time. I agree with the previous reviewer in that this is a terrible pet store. I recommend not even going near it, because you will leave heartbroken. read more

Back in 1999, my friend and I wondered in from a long day at work to pet the puppies and find a plastic diver guy for his fish tank. We walked out with a pure bred black Pomeranian, who we named Smokey. Smokey is healthy and still alive today, and I have had no problems with him what so ever. He has been a part my family for 11 years and I would totally buy from this place again. I am very frustrated with the bad rep pets stores get, I dont want to have to spend more than I did on my first car to get a dog just because it dad won an award! I purchased our first puppy from a breeder and would recommend this option for anyone looking for a puppy, not only are the prices more reasonable but the puppies are in much better health. We purchased our second puppy from this place, within the first week we have had to administer multiple medications for multiple conditions (kennel cough, and worms, we had to pay for the test for worms and of course it was positive) plus, if you have a dog at home, kennel cough is extremely contagious, so your dog at home will most likely need to be treated as well. Also, they aint cheap at all, and do not seem willing to negotiate, probably because they know they are going to have to pay the bill for the multiple medications, as long as you take the dog to one of the Vets they recommend within 5 days of purchase. Purchased a very expensive English bulldog about one month ago from Perfect Pets in southwest plaza. We were assured our dog had not come from a mass produced puppy mill and it was an English bulldog specific breeder. Dogs conditions are fine thus far however our research has shown us that we did not get what was sold to us. Casey and Angie schaaf, owners of Nebraskaland pets, we're listed as our breeders. As of August 2012 198 adult dogs and 98 puppies were inventoried to the schaafs. One of the suppliers for this store, perfect pets, is a mass puppy mill and if you follow the posted link than you can see inventories and inspections of this breeding facility. If you want a purebred for the money they are charging go directly to the breeder. We were duped by their coy lines and now have no idea on the health history of our puppies linage so no idea what to look for early signs of, if anything. No idea of inhereted allergies, nothing! I bought my dog at Perfect Pets in southwest plaza about 2 years ago after the owner knew I was looking for a puppy-dog and he called me a couple months later to tell me the perfect dog for my family had arrived. I went to the store and he was right! Our "Princess Fiona" is the perfect dog! She is a part of our family. We love this dog so much and feel that Perfect Pets matched this dog to my family perfectly. She has always been, and is in perfect health. I don't believe ANY of the bad reviews I have read whatsoever! My experience with Perfect Pets, its staff, and its owner was fabulous! This store was/is clean, the staff was/is friendly, informational and professional. All the animals are loved and cared for greatly. I told the owner recently that I'm wanting to get a 2nd dog. I wouldn't dream of getting my new puppy from any other place other than Perfect Pets. If I could rate Perfect Pets at 10 stars, I would!!!! I am very happy with Perfect Pets!!!! read more
