This place couldn't care less about your pet- it's a pure money grab. We took our injured puppy and were told if it wasn't life or death they were no longer doing those services?!? WHAT? How do you call yourself a PetER and not treat an injured dog crying in pain?!? And charge you to be told that?!? On top of that they are rude, disrespectful, and certainly not a place I would expose anyone or any animal I care about especially in a time of need. Shame on anyone who claims they care about animals and works there. There is no way what we encountered tonight could earn a 5 star rating. I'd give them zero if I could! Charged me 3000 to tell me nothing. Had me waiting 6 hours in parking lot to wait for discharge of my dog. Wanted to take my daughter home to sleep and told me they would charge me another overnight charge if I quickly left and returned. Then proceeded to provide my vet wrong information. Again this place provided me with NO i formation about my dogs 30 minute seizure but had NO problem charging me several times in order to do any other work. Horrible horrible! read more

What a nightmare! I need to start by saying I'm completely aware of COVID-19 and its affects on businesses. That being said, I took my dog here last night at 9 PM along with my 11-year-old child , who was hysterical They took us in and admitted our puppy. We were told to wait in the car and the doctor would update us. I went in to use the vending machine I was told was an allowed because of COVID-19. We were told we couldn't was the bathroom and had to wait in the car. 3 1/2 hours later we got an update that they found nothing and that we need to see a cardiologist on Monday. My issue is that you can't tell someone to wait in the car indefinitely, especially with a child with no access to water or bathroom. They need to come up with a better plan. My child had a P in a cup in the backseat. What a nightmare! read more

We had the unfortunate event of our dog chewing on wire carpeting - she was not digesting food or water and was vomiting. We rushed to the Pet+ER and didn't wait long - that was a positive. Upon our dog being examined, which included a scan of her stomach, we were told that emergency surgery was necessary and needed to be done ASAP (all of this being determined without the results from the scan coming back. Dr. Tyler was adamant on doing the surgery and as were we until the financial aspect came about. We were quoted above $5k - you read that right, more than $5,000.00. This was just too much for our wallets and we could not find a single way of coming up with that type of money. We looked into the pet insurance but interest rates were just absurd. We tried to do everything we could and even contemplated putting her to rest - we didn't have the financial luxury of affording that or finding someone to assist. We were pressured greatly by Dr. Tyler and then an amazing assistant advised us to call other veterinarians in the area to get a quote. We did and thankfully got in touch with Bel Air Pet ER. Dr. Tyler of Pet+E.R. was amazing (sense sarcasm), she made every insinuation that we were terrible pet owners and then had the nerve to say I was an abusive boyfriend because I was the decision maker as my inconsolable girlfriend couldn't fathom putting down her dog but as a graduate student did not have the funds to put forth. Long story short - we took her to Bel Air ER at 11:30 at night, greeted by an amazing staff and had her stay overnight for examination. She passed the carpeting naturally and did not require surgery. I paid a tenth of what she quoted and we have a healthy dog. Note to self, if you want to be judged and pressured, Pet+E.R. is your go-to! read more

My husband and I brought our cat in over the weekend to get emergency help. We had to wait over five hours just to get seen by the doctor. By the time the doctor arrived our poor cat was shaking so badly, we should've seen this as a sign. During the three days that she was in the hospital, she was given fluids, one anti-anxiety medication, some anti-nausea medication and an ultrasound. She was absolutely terrified of being in there. When we found out after the ultrasound that she had cancer, we drove the hour down to be with her as she crossed over to the rainbow bridge. After we spent some time with her, the doctor was called in and I was talking to my cat and she gave her the sleep medication before I was even done speaking with her. The Dr. was very rude when I asked her about it and showed no compassion to my husband and I and the fact that we were having to put down a family member. This bothers me more than the ridiculous cost of this place. The fact that our cat had to spend her last moments terrified of her surroundings.(which she wasn't at her regular vet.) in her last hours and the fact that I wasn't finished saying goodbye before she was put to sleep is appalling. read more

Just had a horrible experience at the Pet+ER in Towson, and I'd really advise you to find another option if you need an ER for your pet. My dog had 48 hours of near hourly diarrhea which did not respond to all of the ordinary efforts of home treatment. She then began to vomit, and since it was a Saturday afternoon, I took her to the ER. I waited an hour to be triaged, and when the triage staff approached, he asked a question, and before I answered he turned around and walked away without saying a word. Thirty minutes later, I flagged him down and he said, "oh- no one has talked to you yet?". Shortly after, another woman approached and was very nice. She took symptom info and vital signs and said we would be put in a room. Someone else put us in a room- the room my previous dog had died in the last time I was there- just a bad coincidence, so I didn't say anything. I sat in that room for three hours and no one ever came in the room. While in the room, I got a text telling me to come in and begin the triage process. I texted back that I was already there and what room I was in. No response. I went to the desk- just want to make sure you know I'm here. Yes, yes, we know. Waited and waited and after four hours I left. Not one person ever checked on my dog. Staffing is horrendous- and communication is awful. I will take my dog elsewhere in the morning, and hope that I'm doing the right thing. Will never go back to Pet+ER in Towson. read more

I would give less then 1 star but it won't let me! Do not waste your time bringing your loved one here. A pregnant pup in active labor was brought in, a baby was breach. Was told $3000 for emergency c-section,who has that laying around. Offered to pay $1000 and make a payment, they could keep the pup. Just wanted to save her. They said NO sent home with antibiotics and the pup passed away after delivering two still borns. So not only did our family lose our pup, but the puppies too! Zero compassion! read more

If you care about your pet, do yourself and your pet a favor... NEVER take them to Pet Er in Towson. tonight on March 7th my friend called me to inform me that her dog swallowed a vacuum cord and took her dog to this place to get help as it was an emergent issue. 2 hours later she informed me that she wouldn't be allowed to take her dog back until she paid for the service, not only did they say that but they informed my friend that her dog hadn't been x-rayed after 2 hours had passed. this again was an emergent issue. They kept my friend in the dark only stating that she had to pay this fee of $350 and they refused to simply send her the bill. again as I stated this is an emergency situation emergencies are unexpected, keeping my friends dog for 5 hours+ with no X-ray and no help and all around terrible customer service because of a fee that couldn't be paid immediately, was not only worrying to my friend but simply cruel to someone who comes to this establishment for help and getting nothing. My friend came up with the 350 and the dog still hadn't been released. At this time the non emergency police line had to be called and the dog was released after 6 and a half hours.... and when she finally got the dog back her dog still had wires in her mouth WHICH IS WHAT SHE INITIALLY TOOK HER DOG IN TO BE SERVICED FOR!!!! My friend left this place with $350 dollars less in her pocket and her dog left with no help at all. this is a sickening establishment and clearly due to this incident they should not be trusted with animal care. read more

My dog is special needs and has seizures. I brought her in to Pet ER when she had a seizure last night at 3AM and we were greeted right away by a vet and team of nurses. At this point, her seizure had broken but we wanted to get her vitals checked out. The entire staff were very friendly and understanding of my dog's condition. They checked her vitals and cleared her for monitoring at home. We were given detailed instructions for care at home and for when we might consider bringing her back should things get worse instead of better. They made any charges explicit (in our case an exam fee and blood pressure check) and the prices were reasonable. Thank you Pet ER! read more

Do not take any pet there for emergency care. Took my cat there because was wife suggested it was closer than Animal Emergency Care in Bel Air (a much better rated facility). I checked in at 7:20pm and didn't get him back till after 11pm for treatment and bandaging of a superficial animal bite. Very crowded and slow moving, the facility is very clinical and not caring or compassionate at all. They wanted to keep him to do blood work and watch him for 3 days there with an estimate of $3,000. After paying $386 around 11pm the vet gives you a legalize summary of their procedure. When I got him home his was listless and sadly passed away in the early morning hours. Do yourself a big favor and drive the 20 minutes north on Bel Air Road from the beltway to the other place. read more

Please stay away and go anywhere else in the are, the only thing we can do now is warn others so this doesn't happen again. To all dog owners, please do not take your dog here. Long story short, my dog started bleeding uncontrollably. They wouldn't do surgery on my dog who was diagnosed with pyometra because they suspected she had cancer. We did the right thing and took her home (after $500 worth of testing) and then took her to the emergency vet hospital in Bel Air. There, they saved her life. Her primary vet told us that she was shocked that they didn't perform surgery on her the night we took her in and try to stablize her prior to surgery because it is an EMERGENCY situation. It was never communicated to me how deadly this disease was until I googled it. This is our first pet and our family has never had animals, so this was all new to us. If we had listened to the Pet ER, waited to get more testing to check for cancer (which would have cost us almost $800), my dog would have died. My dog didn't have cancer--her blood platelets were very low because of how bad the infection was attacking her immune system. She was very sick, and granted, I understand why someone wouldn't be comfortable performing surgery on her with platelets that low. But what most reputable vet hospitals do is try for a blood/platelet transfusion and go from there. That worked for my very healthy dog (she has had zero health problems) and she survived the surgery. My only wish is that we had taken her to Bel Air immediately. Mistakenly, we thought that going to the Pet ER that was closer would give her a better chance. PLEASE take your dog somewhere else. read more

I recently had to rush my dog to he Pet ER from Harrisburg because they were the only facility open that late at night that could provide him the emergency care he needed. He was suffering from a tumor on his spleen that was bleeding into his abdomen. Their FAST Scan found the tumor and bleeding where my vets X-rays could not. As soon as I entered I was happy we made the drive. Soon after entering the receptionist called for the triage team and a team of people rushed to the front to pick up my dog and I followed them to the ER in the back. There I met Dr. Kretchmer who cared for my dog in his final hours. Once they completed their tests and advised me of the severity/risks/odds/costs I eventually determined that he shouldn't be put through anymore pain (at 13yrs old). They brought my dog into the private exam room I was waiting in and laid out a thick blanket for him to lay. We were allowed to spend as much time as needed together which allowed us to say goodbye and even FaceTime with his other 'parent' who was away on business. Dr. K came in when I called and after a few minutes of her sitting with us asked if I was ready. Two-three minutes later it was over. While I certainly wish the outcome would have been different, I'm truly grateful that I came to the PetER that night. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable. I also feel that he got the best care and diagnosis possible and the most humane ending he deserved. Dr. K was extremely professional and you can tell she (and the rest of the staff) truly cares! All in all I spent around $550 that night which I don't consider expensive considering the level of care provided and that included a private cremation. I can't recommend this place enough and I most certainly will be back if (god forbid) a pet needs immediate emergency care in the future. read more

This is the most wonderful company! I don't know why all the negative reviews but I can tell, being in the customer service field, that some of these people are probably just rude and will find fault in everything that doesn't go exactly their way, like 2 year olds holding their breath until they get their way. Anyway, this company treated me and my cat Felix with the utmost respect and kindness. We went there last night and again today for follow up. Both times, we were immediately taken back to triage and seen and then ushered into an exam room where both times, we waited less than 30 minutes for the doctor. Both Dr's that we saw we both compassionate and kind and explained things to me and my husband that we could understand. Unfortunately, with what Felix has wrong with him, we cannot afford the treatment but they gave us an alternative that we could afford to make him comfortable and to pray for the best. Each time, everyone there was very timely and very nice, professional, and compassionate and I thank them very much for the time they gave us. I had to make the most difficult decision a companion of the fur beasts has to do last week after my 21-year old cat was no longer able to support herself or eat/drink. I rushed her to Pet+ER, and the staff were compassionate and understanding as I had to make that horrible final choice to release my beloved pet from suffering. They allowed me to cuddle my fur baby in private until I and she were ready, and when they came in, her end was peaceful and respectful of her dignity. The little poofball who picked me out 21 years ago quietly fell asleep in my arms, and then left me forever. She had no pain or fear at the end and as horrible as it was to lose her, I know we made the right decision. I can't say enough good things about the care team - the day I had dreaded would have been a million times worse if it were not for them and I honestly thank them for helping me get through this decision. read more

They gave us privacy and time to say goodbye. They cried with us and gave me a big hug when we left. They were equally as compassionate when we returned to retrieve her remains. I brought my 10 week old dachshund puppy to the Towson pet+ER because she was not eating and becoming very lethargic (bad signs) and it was a weekend, so my local vet was closed. Without any tests they recommended she spend the night for close monitering. Being a new (worried) dog owner without any other options I allowed this. They claimed they took a multitude tests without finding any problem. They provided her with IV nutrition for two days, until Monday when they released her and said nothing was wrong, expect for she still would not eat. This great service cost 2,300 dollars. Still being worried I took my dog to her normal vet since it was a Monday now and within 20 minutes and a fecal test, they noticed she had a parasite. A few antibiotics and other medications latter she was fine. In summation, thanks Pet+ER for nothing. read more

Heed all the 1* reviews. They are there for a reason. Without going in to all the details: I have visited Pet ER with various dogs throughout the years. I've never been exactly happy with my visits, but I never felt as though I should absolutely avoid them until this past week. My dog had been under care and had surgery at a great vet hospital, located, unfortunately, in Rockville, so not the most convenient when one lives in Baltimore City. When my dog started experiencing extreme and unusual pain one week last night, I was worried and brought him to Pet ER. I could go into how triage never came, or how he couldn't stand so the staff just let him lie by the counter, but I won't. The vet tech was a bright spot, although she promised a blanket for my dog to lie on and then forgot and I had to chase her down. The vet, however, proved that any good feelings I had about the staff were misplaced. This very young woman seemed to care nothing for animals, and besides listening to his heart, spent the bulk of her time reading his chart. She ordered a ton of tests. Since my dog very recently had major surgery and was under care of a local vet, I was certain that he didn't need the $200+ worth of blood work. I knew he wasn't anemic when she said that it was important to check him for that. I let them check his blood pressure and give him fluids and that was it. And, no Pet ER vet, there is absolutely no reason to keep him overnight. And, to make things even less pleasant, the vet had a cold, so spent her time sniffling and sneezing. (Think Donald Trump at the debate but worse!) I'm not sure how vet hospitals work, but I'd guess that Pet ER works on some sort of bonus system with the vets. I don't know how else to explain the ordering of tests that weren't necessary, and trying to pad the bill. I felt lucky to have gotten out of there with a bill just under $200 than one just under $2000. Do not let them do tests that you don't think you need. Pet Owners Beware! read more

My experience with Pet+ER was beyond accommodating and I have nothing but positive feedback. I am sad to see that there are negative reviews below because they really saved me in an emergency! (Just a note that this review is from a visit last year). I drove down from NYC to Baltimore, with my cat Felix, to stay with my family for about a week. Upon arriving around midnight, I realized I forgot one of Felix's anti-seizure medications, which he requires every 8 hours. Initially, I thought I'd have to drive all the way back up to NYC to grab the meds because any new vet that sees Felix charges an initial exam fee. I frantically called Pet+ER and explained the situation. They asked for me to send all of Felix's records (which I did, by email) and warned me that I had to pay an exam fee of $99. That was cheaper than driving back to NY, so I decided to take Felix in. When I arrived at the ER, there was only one other patient waiting. The staff and doctors were very friendly and took care of Felix immediately. They prescribed a week's worth of the meds, just enough before I planned to return to NY. But the most generous thing is that they waived the exam fee because they knew I was only in town for a short time. All I owed was $25 for the meds for the midnight emergency. I suspected that my dog had ingested some type of poison or something he shouldn't have. I rushed him here, absolutely terrified. I was greeted by the incredibly helpful and kind front desk staff. My dog was then quickly taken back and looked at by a vet tech. We were then placed in a waiting room and told the vet would be right with us. The vet tech then came back and handed me a number for poison control. He said it was a 50$ fee just to call them, identify the poison and then have them communicate with the vet. I thought it was absurd for me to have to pay for such a thing, but as most pet parents would, I called. While I was on the phone answering questions that I didn't know the answer to(well what kind of poison was it?) my dog was looking worse and worse. I would have at least thought they would have given him some fluids at this point. Poison control was $50 down the drain. They didn't help me in any way. I can't put all blame on them however. I feel that it's unprofessional that one: I had to call them myself while I'm in such a state of panic and two: the vets "didn't" know how to handle poisonings on their own. Another 15 minutes go by and I'm told again that the vet will be on her way soon. There were no other dogs visible to me when I came in and no other cars in the parking lot. I'm not sure what goes on behind the scenes, but when I'm rushing in to the emergency room, suspecting my dog ingested something poisonous, I expect a little more urgency. The vet FINALLY came in after I went crying to the front desk. The vet went on the just ask the same questions and reiterate what I said. They took my dog back for blood testing. When he came back his results were normal, but my dog was still not himself. They eventually gave him fluids and charcoal, just in case he did eat something poisonous. This was about an hour after I had arrived however. I could continue to go on, but I'll wrap this up by saying almost $500 later, I left not knowing any more than I did when I entered. This place takes advantage of people, knowing that there really aren't any other options in the area. My dog is feeling better, but I still left feeling uneasy. The one positive here is the front desk staff. They showed a sense of urgency and that they actually cared. I would suggest looking at other options before rushing here however. read more

I hate to say that I was here just because I hate reliving the memory of my pup eating about 3 pounds of chocolate, but I had an ok experience here. I liked the doctor and all of the people working in the back were great, that being said there were some miscommunications with bulking. They told me it would be $700 if I got him first thing in the morning. I came earlier than first thing in the morning and my bill was $1000. I had to argue with them to get it back to what they had originally told me. It was a he said she said situation, the woman last night told me get there by 11am and the guy told me anytime I picked him up past 8am would add another half day charge. They did the right thing but it was a hassle. I now have another 24/hour pet Er. read more

Last night my yorkie swallowed something and began vomiting and choking. During these unsettling times, I was not sure if the Pet +ER was open. A quick call confirmed that they were. A tech came to the car and got some info and then took my dog inside. I was so distraught. Shortly, she came back and said that one of us could go in. I went in and found a team of techs and the doctor surrounding my dog. The doctor was calm and kind and ordered xrays. However, my dog began to vomit and expelled what she had swallowed. Everyone cheered! I went in a room with my dog to monitor her. During this time a tech and the doctor came in to check her out. They were so happy that this situation was resolved and told me to just monitor her for coughing. They did not charge me a cent! Every experience I have had with Pet+ER over the years has been so professional and caring, including the time we had to euthanize our sweet dog. I am so grateful for the help and support they gave me last night. Holding my dog close today. read more

It is probably cheaper to have a real baby at the hospital then to bring your fur baby in here to get diagnosed. How do they expect any normal person to afford medical care if your pet is sick. My visit today cost 6,000$ and they still don't know what's wrong with her. Yes they are great vets and all that wonderful bullshit but when it comes down to it they are way to expensive. I am still coming down from being on edge from quite a traumatic experience, so my review is likely to be a bit infused with anger. We brought my cat in last night (830pm) because he started exhibiting odd behavior: lethargy, tenderness in the belly, and I could feel a baseball sized swelling between his hind legs (bladder). I took him to Pet-ER Towson and was rushed in and told he needed immediate attention as he likely had crystals in his bladder. These crystals had obstructed his urethra and was not allowing him to urinate, which was not allowing the toxins to exit his body. It was time sensitive, as if the toxins were to build they were going to potentially cause permanent kidney damage and or death. I was quoted $2300-$3000 to have him hospitalozed, have a catheter put in, and monitored (blood levels, kidney function, etc.) for 48 hours. The amount was incomprehensible and we were absolutely heart broken. My wife combing for information asked some "what ifs" and "whys" and was met with a bit of attitude from the vet. We were eventually given an alternative to stick a needle in him to manually drain the bladder to relieve the pain, temporarily, so we could take him to our primary vet in the morning. We didnt know what to do. We couldn't swallow $3000, and were scared to pay to have his bladder drained only to have the vet tell us the same thing the next day. The vet actually got agitated with us and said very coldly and shortly "well obviously, you need to make a decision, so how much longer do you think you'll need?!" We went with draining the bladder and we're sent home with a vile of blood, allegedly from his urine. $300 and the next morning later, we called our vet and as Murphy would have it, they said they werent capable of performing the procedure and that we would need to go back to Pet-ER. We were destroyed. We packed up and headed back to Pet-ER expecting to have to say good bye to our baby boy. They held firm with the $3000, and took us back to our room. Then a tech came back and said one of the doctors recommended we take him to another (name withheld) hospital because they could likely perform it "relatively inexpensively". What did we have to lose? We rushed over to the other hospital and $60 later, some antibiotics, a new rx diet, and our baby boy is back home. The Doctor there was able to, with ease and confidence, manually express the bladder clearing the obstruction. Nice clear urine with a heavy stream. My cat may have to go back in to get expressed again, or worst case scenario $600 for catheter and monitoring, but per that Doctor "this young boy is not a $600 cat, he is going home to rest and recover!" Now, I am not a professional in the medical industry, nor will I claim to be anything close, but these were two VASTLY different experiences within 16 hours. One was very cold, traumatic, evasive, rushed, expensive, and ultimate. The other was swift, professional, nurturing, understanding, transparent, and thorough. I cannot definitively point my finger and exclaim "foul play", but I can confidently say I will NEVER bring any of our animals there again. read more

Went on a Sunday- with a pup with a severe bite wound- made us wait out in the car- which I understand even tho our Governor lifted the restrictions- someone came out looked at him said be right back- after an hour of waiting called me and said we only accept critical patients today- REALLY.... why didn't you tell me that an hour ago- I even asked the girl who looked at him- if you cant see him tell me- and I'll go somewhere else- but to make a bleeding pup wait an hour is just CRUEL. Unfortunately we had to put our dog down tonight, and we were blessed to to have Dr. Barfield as our Vet. From the moment we called, the entire staff was compassionate and friendly. We were quickly taken back and soon met Dr. Barfield. He was clearly knowledgeable and compassionate and made a very difficult night a little less painful. He asked about our dog, listened, and was very articulate, making us comfortable with such a difficult decision. read more

they made us feel important even though they were super busy during the pandemic. they communicated with us the entire time that our cat was with them and updated us whenever they could. the doctor was thorough and explained things really well. i really felt like our cat was safe while he was here, and i am so thankful for how friendly and helpful the staff was! read more

I couldn't ask for a better team. We visited MD from NY and we knew our dog Simon was not in a good way. We looked these guys up beforehand and called them to tell them we may need their help. The time came and we had to drive our wonderful dog to them at 9:30pm on 12/23/2018 of all nights. They were beyond caring and generous with time and services. NEVER USE THIS PLACE! In July, my 4 year old Bernese Mountain Dog had fluid in her abdomen. We we told to take her there to have the fluid removed and an ultrasound. She had to be uncomfortable but was not in pain. She was jumping in and out of the car, eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, etc. Upon hearing what their costs would be and the treatment plan, they mentioned they would put her on pain medication. I told them she was NOT in pain and they insisted removing the fluid from her abdomen would be painful so I approved of that FOR that procedure. The next day we were told they removed the fluid, did an ultrasound and found a mass which we suspected was cancer. We decided not to put her through radiation and decided to try steroids'. I told the "board certified vet" at 2:30 pm that we would pick her up at 6:00 pm. My husband and I arrived at 6 pm, waited and waited, when asking the front desk how much longer, we were told by a rude woman at the front desk that "they are an ER and there are people ahead of us", understood even though this was a scheduled discharge from hours prior. Then after an hour passed my husband inquired and was told her medication wasn't ready. After 30 minutes, I inquired about the wait and was told the same thing. After almost 2 1/2 hours, they finally came in with discharge papers, medication and went to get our dog. We were so happy to be bringing her home again and our kids were home waiting for her. Five minutes later a tech came in and asked us to follow her. She was walking quickly and I asked if something was wrong, she said the doctor just wanted to talk to us. We walked into the back and the vet met me and said "I'm so sorry, she just arrested!" My dog was there less than 24 hours and was dead all while we waited in the other room for 2 1/2 hours! We were told so many stories about what happened - they didn't know, the server went down and "caused confusion" and they were short staffed. I requested her medical records and could see while there she was injected with FENTANYL three times as well as given Midazolam, Trazadone and Ondanestron. On my bill it shows a trial medication which they said wasn't a "trial medication" but who knows what they gave her! I contacted many surgery centers after this and was told they do not use Fentanyl, one place thought I was mistaken because they said no one would use Fentanyl for that. Even for surgeries, they don't use Fentanyl. A friend's dog just had surgery for a torn ACL and they only used morphone. Fentanyl is 100 times MORE potent than morphine! Ondanestron is for nausea thought when I asked the "board certified vet" if she was throwing up or acting nauseous she said no and that she would be okay with refunding that medication cost. The medical records show that her discharge papers were complete and her medication was read around 5:30 pm. If they were done, why did we keep getting told we had to wait because they weren't ready? When I saw my dog, she still had an IV in and a fan blowing on her face. She hated a fan right on her face. She would have never sat there like that unless she was drugged out of her mind or dead. I have NEVER heard of or dealt with a practice like this. Since this, I have heard from other practices and surgical centers that they don't refer to them and have heard bad things about them. I wish I had known this before going here. My dog may still be alive. If you love your pet, do your research for an ER hospital now and don't tell your worst enemy to go here. read more

My clumsy, accident-prone dog and I have visited PET+ER in Towson a few times now. The most recent was yesterday when he started vomiting up foam and his gums turned white. I was blown away by the care given, especially during the difficult pandemic. Someone came out to my car and took my dog almost right away, and they called me while I waited in the parking lot continuously. The constant updates and communication really put me at ease when I wasn't allowed inside with my dog. Dr. Peterson went above and beyond in telling me what was going on and answering all of my questions. They took such great care of my dog, and I cannot thank them enough. The triage nurses and discharge nurses, as well, were all friendly, helpful, and communicative. In an emergency, this is the place to go. read more

Horrible. Took 3 hours to even look at my dog. Then 2 and half hours after they were done to release her. The staff was very rude. Doctor was nice but not enough to make up for the inflated costs and to be treated so horrendously. read more

We took my dog here for a torn ear and waited 2 hours before we were seen. They said they were really busy (we only saw two other dogs come in) Once the vet saw us she said I would need to leave my dog overnight because he needed to be sedated and stitched up. They came back with an estimate of 2800. We were in shock. A hospital for humans would not cost that much. Maybe they wanted him overnight because they were busy??? She gave us an alternative to clean the wound and take him back my vet in the morning. We did that. By the way head wrap to protect the ear was 65 dollars alone. One dose of an antibiotic was 42 dollars. We are not in Beverly Hills! Next day he was fixed up at my new vet for 328 dollars total. read more

Update: didn't get our cat back until after midnight! 8 hours for an exam and bloodwork. I understand that during Covid precautions must be taken. However, we are in stage 3 of reopening and I have been to other vets offices during Covid. I even had to have another cat put down here during Covid. I also own a business so I know what the CDC and state regulations/recommendations are. I understand that it is a pet er, they are super busy and the most severe cases have to be seen first. I was prepared with snacks, water, iPad for Netflix and charger. I am normally patient about the wait and forgiving that mistakes happen. EVEN WHEN my dog was a patient at their old York Rd location and a tech took him for a walk and LOST HIM. Yes lost him. He was never found. I was devastated and heartbroken. But they fired her and, I hope, learned from their mistakes. But tonight we took our 19 year old cat there. I arrived at 4:15 and called to check her in. She wasn't eating. was weak, having trouble walking, pale gums but alert and interactive. Not that the pet er knew that because she wasn't even triaged until almost 5. Then we waited. Someone came out to return our carrier and said she was stable about an hour later and that we were next to see the doctor. Then around 7:15 I tried to call to see what was going on because there was NO COMMUNICATION. Their phones weren't working so I walked up to the door and there was a note with an alternate number to call. So I called because I had to use the bathroom badly. They answered and I asked if I could use the bathroom because I had been waiting for over three hours. Instead of saying that they had Covid restrictions and where there was a bathroom option, she rudely asked, "so you couldn't use the bathroom at the wawa and now you want to use ours?" As if I somehow magically knew that was protocol!?!? I said I didn't know where the wawa was and she proceeded to give me directions. I said, well I didn't know if I could leave or not since they didn't say anything. They had signs for numbered parking spaces but no other direct communication. She again very rudely said they are not going to come out to talk to you they are going to call. So I drove to the wawa still not knowing if my cat was ok. 5 hours later and 3 distressed phone calls from my 4 year old daughter, my cat had still not been seen by a doctor!! And I had to pee again. My issue is less with how long it took, although it was absolutely ridiculous since the parking lot was now almost empty and we watched one pet after another go back to their owners, even people who had arrived long after us. My issue was the atrocious communication, or rather lack there of and the completely unnecessary rudeness and tone. I live less than 3 miles away. I could have waited from the comfort of my home if they had JUST communicated that they were super busy. Or my cat could have at least waited in the car where I know she was comfortable and I at least knew someone was actually monitoring her. We were told at least 3 times that she was next and then waited another hour after each time. The complete lack of caring and respect for the time of not just PAYING customers but human beings distressed about their beloved seriously ill pets was just unacceptable. When we finally talked to the vet she was nice and knowledgeable but the rest of the experience was by far one of the worst I've had here or any vet. How hard is it for the receptionist to pick up the phone keep people updated. read more
