BUYER BEWARE, I purchased a dog from here and was promised it was not a puppy male dog that the dogs were regularly seen by a veterinarian, and that they were taking good care of. And let me tell you that is not the case my dog had to undergo countless surgeries by my veterinarian who would also come to the conclusion that this dog was never properly taken care of. A list of problems which I won't get too into detail where that severe gum, disease, starvation, hip, dysplasia, ear mites, and a horrible skin infection. Yes, these dogs are adorable when you walk by the store they are lovable and need proper care . And pet express is not the people to do it. They're extremely neglectful and our money hungry. My son was also told a lot of misinformation about the breed. Don't get me wrong, I am also upset with my son for not doing his research. Initially, I wanted my son to return the puppy to Pet Express but after some thought we couldn't do it. The puppy is already 12 weeks old and the older he gets the chances of him being sold are slim. I was one of the people that purchased my pet at pet express. Although she is incredible and invaluable I strongly support more regulations on these type of stores. I later learned that she came from a puppy mill, there is such limited information provided prior to purchase and although I kept asking they insisted she was from a farm. These stores will give anyone a pet, they don't ask for your ability to care for them physically, emotionally or financially. They just care about the money. I love my dog but it saddens me to think that everyone isn't as lucky as she is. Please enforce stricter laws. I am a 62 year old woman that has been struggling with depression and anxiety. My doctor recommend getting a dog. I tryed for months to adopt but with no prevail. I decided to go to pet express and try to purchase a puppy. Salesman was very rude as I was asking questions he was on computer. I asked about one pup and was told pup was 3,200 dollars. When I went to pick pup up that same salesman told me that I also received alot of extras that were waiting for me that day. I was excited to receive these extras for my pup. After my freind took the extras to the car while I waited to receive my pup. When Another employee gave me my pup the salesman I was dealing with turned to me and said I owed 3,700. So from what he told me 3,200 for pup it went to 3,700. I asked why was I being charged all that extra money, he proceeded to tell me that all the equipments that he said came with a puppy that we put in the car I had to pay for. I was researching local breeders and a friend suggested Pet Express.. I purchased the cutest female puppy chiweenie ( Chihuahua / Dachshund Hybrid) from Pet Express 12/02/2015.. The staff told me her mother was a Chihuahua and a long hair Dachshund.... her paperwork says she is a Chihuahua mix.... Recently started having behavioral issues, not associated with the breed. So I decided to have her tested... What I found out was, she has no Chihuahua no Dachshund.... and that her papers are falsified.... I purchased my puppy on 8/31 due to the long weekend I was not able to take her in for her visit to the veterinarian within the first 7 days as instructed. I called the shop and advised on what to do next the stated that I had a 6 day extension. Once I got her to the vet they stated that I will not be granted the extension and I will have to pay out of pocket for a sick visit as she has a cough! I say okay of Course as I want her checked out and well. She comes back as having kennel cough and needs antibiotics, I leave a stool sample as well to be sent off and they will call me with any issues on that, so $200 visit later we go home. I get a phone call 2 days later my baby girl has 2 very dangerous parasites and needs "3" more antibiotic and an aggressive treatment of medicine also highly contagious to humans !!! $166.00 more.. Mind you I have a "1" yr old grandson at my home... I call pet express I get advised that she has a 14 day warranty to be returned or exchanged! REALLYYYYY! so bring her back to you so she doesn't get any treatment at all and dies, how about heck no! I got lucky I love my puppy. But definitely do research before purchasing. I purchased because I fell in love and I did it spontaneously. I feel like I saved him because he is shipped back and forth and lives in that window cage pooping himself. The price that was given to us on the first day was 900 when we came to make it official they said sorry its wrong its 1000 Really annoying. But they gave us 100 dollars store credit so whatever that works. I bought a sweater there it was the last one and a little dirty they gave me 50 percent off. I couldn't returned my puppy just like he was a pair of damaged shoes. He is a living creature, and I love him. But this place is terrible. My neighbor also bought a Golden at this store and the dog was sick in two days. They spent $7,000 on medical treatment on there dog, and I still have to keep spending money on mine because the Melrose Animal Clinic Pet Express recommend is no better than they are. My puppy's eyes keep swelling and he had an ulcer in one eye after the surgery he had there. Now I have switched hospitals for my puppy, and he is finally getting better. read more

I brought a puppy at Pet express in Saugus, Ma (Square one mall) for nearly $4000 and upon purchasing "lil penny" I was told there was a warranty on her if anything goes wrong with her health in the next year or two I would be reimbursed all or some of my money. Here's the catch.. they tell you that you have to make an appointment with a vet within 2 weeks for a wellness check or the warranty will be voided. I called 20 vets and not one of them has an appointment available for months. I called back to let them know this and was told "oh well, I don't write the policy. Maybe you should call the owners and talk to him. He is the one who writes the policy." So I called the number they gave me and Noone ever picks up. Never will I ever go back there not even to get things for "lil penny ". Worst customer service and on top of that they rip you off. Should I seek legal help. This has to be illegal. read more

I an most upset to find out that Pet Express is selling kittens (not pedigree cats) for $400. The cats are not spayed or neutered which means your cats will eventually cost almost $800 for vet fees. I recently meet someone who was breeding her cats to sell to Pet Express. She is not a breeder nor are the cats prebreds, just ordinary cats. The owner was given $50 for each kitten. Your store is unethical and inhumane. NO ONE should be buying any animal from Pet Express. If you want a certain breed of dog go to a professional breeder, same for cats. Get a dog from an Animal Shelter, and avoid pet stores! If you must get a puppy and can't find one in a shelter, find a reputable breeder. Pet store dogs run around $3000 compared to the $50 you may pay at a shelter or $1000 from a breeder. My biggest complaint is that the employees at this chain are not skilled in the veterinary field and do not educate buyers about the long-term care of the animals before taking them home. As cliche as it is, if 0 stars were possible I would choose that. I tried editing my previous review but it wouldn't let me for some reason. We purchased our olde English Bulldog on 11/11/16. First off, over a month later I realized they overcharged us $200; we paid $2899 when the paperwork says he was actually $2699. On 11/24/16 (Thanksgiving) he developed severe pneumonia resulting in $2000+ in vet bills. I spoke to the manager shortly after who told us to complete the health guarantee paperwork to be reimbursed (they only reimburse up to $1000) and then told me to be in touch when that was sorted out and he would see what he could do for us. Well, I submitted that paperwork the beginning of December and now at the end of January I still have not heard anything at all. Then on 12/23/16 (2 days before Christmas) he developed pneumonia again, after being cleared 3 days prior. I called the manager that night to inform him and explained that we would likely be billed close to ADDITIONAL $2000+ at the vet, to which he he basically said he wasn't authorized to help and I should talk to the owner. Weeks of phone tag with him led to no answers or help, leaving us with well over $4000 in vet bills in less than 2 months. We were beyond thrilled to add this sweet puppy to our family after buying our first home in August, but now have no idea how we are going to afford these vet bills and continue to pay our mortgage at the same time. To make matters worse he is currently sick right now and most likely developing pneumonia again, but I don't see how we could afford yet another $2000+ in vet bills. I cant put into words the disappointment I have towards Pet Express and their lack of compassion and help with this situation. Bought my puppy here in April of 2016, had to put him down January 2017. He had two congenital neuro disorders and also had fluid buildup in the ears. I am not only going though the pain of losing my dog that was only 11 months but am now left with an $8,000 vet bill on top of having to pay the cost of the dog plus interest which comes to $3,200. I went to pet express after having to put my dog down and all they could tell me was to submit a claim through their insurance. I submitted the claim and have not heard back yet. Want a dog..consider adoption from your local shelter or specific breed rescue. The puppies sure are cute in the window. However, all pet store dogs come from puppy mills (Google search puppy mills). They do not come from "breeders". Their living conditions are generally not terrific. Most importantly, the mothers of these cute puppies have a terrible life of giving birth to litter after litter. They are just a cash crop. There is no life for the moms. My dog is a pure bred rescue who originated from a puppy mill. She was caged for the first 6 months of her life. I don't call that love. Went to the Saugus store and was treated terribly by the tacky girls in the store. Was interested in a dog and was told I could not hold the dog. Seems unreasonable to charge $1600 for something without being able to touch it. I wouldn't buy a handbag without holding it first. Especially for that kind of money. The staff was unable to answer simple questions and put minimal effort into helping us. On top of that the girls stand a foot away from you the entire time staring as if you're about to dash out of the store with the fog. I will never give this company my business. They won't disclose all their policies up front. If you need to shop there - ASK TO REVIEW THEIR CONTRACT PAPERWORK FIRST BEFORE YOU SHOP THEIR PUPPIES. Ask to see their paperwork before you hold any of their puppies. If the staff denies you that - head for the door! Find out their policies before you buy and before it's too late. Buying from this store chain is high risk with thousands of dollars on the line. There are still many reputable breeders out there with beautiful puppies. I am going to do my best to turn all these negatives into a somewhat positive based on my experience even though I did not actually purchase the dog that I was interested in. I felt that the staff did an excellent job the three (yes, three) different times that I went in - especially the girl with blonde hair and glasses. She actually remembered me and was very friendly and talkative. She did not put any pressure on me to purchase the dog by any means and I could tell that she genuinely loved and cared for the animals. (Side note dog was a hefty $1600.00 - but for an AKC pure bred puppy, it's at least somewhat in the ballpark). The girl allowed me to spend as much time with the dog as I wanted (store policy is that you are not allowed to pick them up, you can pet them all that you would like in one of the viewing areas). Obviously a staff member would need to stand about a foot away from me when I was interacting with the dog, but it's for security and most likely liability under their insurance I am sure - and this didn't bother me at all and I didn't find it out of the ordinary. She informed me of all of the offers that were available should I decide to purchase: $100.00 worth of items for free, warrantees for health/wellness, first vet visit was free, etc. But this employee also gave me the backstory on the business, and it doesn't sound as bad as some people are making it out to be (unless she was completely bs-ing me). The dog I was interested in looked healthy and was active - I could tell that it was being well cared for. I am hoping that he gets a deserving home and lives a long healthy life. read more

I just purchased two adorable Boston Terrier puppies from Pet Express, one from Danvers and one from Saugus. I recently lost my dog of 13 years to cancer and I was lonely and looking for a new furry friend. I love Boston Terriers, had them for years. I began my search for Boston puppies and found literally no one. Every breeder within a days driving distance either didn't respond to me or told me I would be waiting until late 2017 or 2018 for any possibility of puppies. I have heard of puppy pills and do not agree with them, but I do know a family member that purchased a pet from a pet store several years back, in another state, and it was from a local breeder. So, I thought I would give Pet Express a chance... Upon talking to them initially, they assured me their pets do not come from puppy mills, but from local breeders. They told me they could not give me the breeders information because then I would just go directly to the breeder to buy and then they wouldn't make any money, which made sense. The puppies seemed happy and "appeared" healthy. I went back several days in a row. I ended up taking 2 home that I felt a connection with. That night I heard them coughing, yacking, and choking. I immediately brought them to the vets for evaluation. The vets informed us both dogs had kennel cough. I was devastated. They're now both 1 week into antibiotics. One of them is doing a little better, the other is still pretty sick. I'm concerned he has developed pneumonia. They have another vet eval in a week. They do come with pretty extensive warranties. They will reimburse you up to $1000 per puppy for medical bills (or so they claim). I'm waiting to submit my claims until they are better so I can do it all at once in case they need more treatment. I will update this when they recover and let you know whether or not they give me a hard time on reimbursement. I'm extremely worried about these babies :( After the purchase I received the AKC papers and did a google search on the breeder. And I can't believe how badly I was duped... I am ashamed! They were flown in from MN from a puppy mill. I'm disappointed in myself, and of course, them, for lying to me and telling me they weren't from puppy mills. When I think of the fact that I just supported a puppy mill, it makes me physically ill. If I had known the truth I would have just waited for puppies, but now that I have them, I'm in love with them already and can't in my heart return them... At this point, all I want now is for them to recover, and to be reimbursed for the expenses related to their illness. And I will never purchase a puppy from a pet store again, no matter what they tell me... I will update this review to give status on reimbursement and puppies health. They claim the dogs all come from breeders but I have not found any information on the breeder my dog supposedly came from. I have done hours of research and contacted the AKC and gotten no where. Not to mention our poor dog was sick within 3 days of taking him home!!!!! Nearly $300 at the vet just for medicine, I contacted the store and was told "call the insurance company and put a claim in", not even an apology or ask how he's doing. I'm not sure what all the negative reviews are. I went here to buy a puppy, as I have previously bought a puppy here that I loved. The sales associates (Zach E. and Santina) were so helpful with my puppy search. I went back and forth between the Saugus location and the Braintree location for a week and every time I went the staff was so helpful. They answered any and all questions I had, and were so cooperative in my pursuit of finding the perfect puppy. I learned of who the breeder was, and after doing my research, found that he is a most reputable breeder, and in no way associated with a puppy mill. I brought my puppy home, Teddi Roosevelt, and she has been so happy at home! She runs around the apartment, plays with other dogs in the neighborhood, and is super friendly with everyone she meets! This is the second puppy I have bought from Pet Express and I will continue to go back because of their professionalism, their superior knowledge, and their true care for the puppies at the store. Although I hope it isn't soon (I only want one puppy at a time), I will absolutely go to pet express first the next time I want to buy a puppy. Even if Santina and Zach E weren't as amazing as they were, the warranty, the care I see them give the puppies, and the health guarantee would be enough for me! I don't know where these other reviews come from, but I can almost guarantee they have never stepped foot into one of the stores and have no idea what they are talking about. I purchased a dog from this store and was the cutest little thing ever wanted to see I wasn't in any predicament financially to purchase a $2,500 dog but my daughter fell in love with him and one of the associates there was rude and her remark was if I wasn't sincere about purchasing this puppy she needed to put him back into his glass cage because she had somewhere to go when the mall close the time was 8:50 p.m. and she wanted me out of the store so she can lock it up so in turn I purchased the dog in spite of her arrogance . I'm very happy that I purchased him because come to find out he was very sick all that whole week and he wasn't getting the proper attention of medication like he should of so when I took him home that evening come the morning I found him on the floor whith his eyes rolling in the back of his head I had to rush him to a nearby Animal Hospital and shell out another $300 for the visit and the treatment and the manager of pet express was uncooperative he told me it was out of his hands it has been four and a half years now since I had my dog he's been nothing but a pleasure to my family and everyone around him he's the most beautiful dog in the most friendly he is the smartest dog I've ever owned. Despite that arrogant manager of that pet store that I do not recommend anyone to purchase a pet there because they come from puppy mills and it health conditions not up to date all they want is for you the purchase that dogs so they can make their profit and not having one bit a one ounce of the concerned a welfare of that puppy that lives in that glass cage with the high price tag.
