I just have to give an Excellent review for Steve with Pet Food Express Store next to Trader Joe's on Oak Grove, here in Concord. Normally, I go into the store and buy what I need and walk out. If Steve is working, he always greets me and offer assistance but I always tell him not today. However, the other day I needed assistance and I was happy to see Steve as I walked into the store. Sure enough, Steve greeted me and asked if I needed his assistance. By the time I was done with what I needed, such a hugh relief and I thanked Steve for really going above his duty to answer my questions which helped my decision with the type of dog food I bought for my dog. I prefer Pet Food express over the other chain stores because they do not have animals in the store. These other stores have pet rodents and they are not taken care of well. Pet Food Express just sells pet supplies and food. This is a good one, been here a few times to get the more expensive food for both the dogs and cats. They have dog and cat adoption dates in conjunction with local rescues. That's how you do it. We did adopt a dog a few years back from one of these. Support your local Pet Food express. read more

I am happy with their products but not so much with the manager who is unfriendly, quite pushy and nosy. She also had a problem with my coupon even though it was valid. Besides that I almost always find what I'm looking for at the store and love that I can shop here. Their scale is also off but I'm too scared to say something. I weighed my dog here twice and it was over 20lbs off compared to the vet scale. read more

Noah provided a great experience, is very knowledgeable and helped us navigate all of our questions about the different brands of dog/puppy food along with various toppers to help our little one get over his pickiness about his kibble. I don't often write reviews but I feel this really needs to be said. My wife and I had a cat who suddenly stopped eating and we were worried sick. We came to Pet Food Express on Oak Grove to see if anyone knew what we could do before having to take the cat to a vet. One of the staff, Ash, was so incredibly helpful and compassionate, made a lot of suggestions, showed us some different brands and we came home with some new cat food. We tried feeding some to our Emma and she loved it and started to eat again. You are very lucky to have an employee like Ash. What she did for us today meant so much to us. As an aside, we are regular customers at this store and you should be very proud of your staff and manager, Max. They have the perfect blend of being helpful, friendly and yet not hovering or pushy. I was in the area and decided to stop by. This place is in a really big shopping center. They mainly focus on dogs & cats. I noticed they have really good quality food for dogs. They had a lot of dog beds and carriers. At the back they had a place where you can shower your dog like a self service. I thought that was really cool because I have never seen that. I have two bunnies so there was half of an isle dedicated to bunnies, birds, and Ginny pigs. I wish they would have had more things for bunnies. Our dog had been struggling with runny stool for the last 2 years. We had been transitioning slowly between different kibble types like orijen and nature's logic. We were at petfood Express evaluating more options when we ran into Ruth. Ruth was amazing in explaining the different types of food and what might be causing the issues. She recommended the kiwi freeze dried lamb and we decided to give it a shot. We're on week 3 and it's made a huge difference! We love shopping here, the store is always clean and stocked and the service is consistently warm and welcoming. I use to live in Concord and this was the Pet Food Express I went to all the time for food, toys, treats and grooming products. I now live in SF but still come to this location once in awhile when visiting family. I recently went to this location to stock up on my dog's food (Tucker's) , and Ania noticed that I also grabbed the Primal Elixir (green smoothie) and mentioned the special that was going on for the Primal brand toppers and saved me money! Went in to get advice about walking my dogs (on leash) while I've been accosted by off-leash dogs recently. Spoke with Graham, store manager. He was incredibly helpful with tips and advice, suggested some store products to use in the future, and was so generous to offer me a couple products complimentary to try out (treats for my dogs to distract them, and a pet corrector (a small can of air-noise) to distract off-leash dog). The store itself is alright, what made me put 1 star was the cashier, she commented on my dogs weight and tried to tell me what I should be feeding him. I told her he's a working line dog that is not fixed and will remain lean, I feed him 2 cups daily plus lots of treats. She further insisted by looking at the bag and saying I should "bulk him up", not even knowing his current weight. Fat dogs may be cuter but they are not healthier by any means, as someone that works at a pet store, she should be more aware of this. read more

My family found a lost dog in our neighborhood that we couldn't find ID information for. Animal Services is closed Sun/Mon around us, so we took him in for a shower here before taking him in for the night. The staff were incredibly kind and patient while showing us how to operate the self-bathing area. After hearing us explain the circumstances and directing us to their community board to post our information, they gave us the service on the house. Used to be a friendly, helpful place to shop for pet food but new girl manager in particular at Oak Grove store is very sarcastic, rude and has not been honest about why Pet Food Express chose to stop carrying Lotus pet food, something my cats with dietary restrictions rely on. She told me Lotus was having manufacturing issues but actually Pet Food Express discontinued Lotus because they didn't like working with their distributor. Also, previous time I was in there, a clerk who said she's never had cats was giving advice to a first time cat owner on best kitty litter pans. How would she know? Newer staff at the Pleasant Hill store has also been on the b*(*&% side. Good help, it seems, is a lot harder to find these days. read more

My teenage daughter went into this store to look around and when she was walking out, they falsely accused her of stealing and searched her bag. This was humiliating and embarrassing in front of other customers. I am not sure why they would do this to her, they clearly misjudged her and owe her an apology. I always have great customer service here but tonight I decided to let everyone know! I took my lab in for a bath, first of all, I forgot a leash like an idiot so I walked him in holding his collar. This review is against a male employee who wear glasses, possibly in supervisory role. He was a complete moron, should not even work in any customer service business at all! I brought my dog to the VIP Petcare clinic inside Pet Food Express for a rabies shot. The VIP Petcare personnel completely screwed up, almost killed my dog. I yelled at the VIP Petcare personnel (hey what would you do when somebody almost killed your dog???). When hearing the noise, this Pet Food Express male employee rushed over and asked me to leave, without even bothering to ask what happened. There was a closed circuit camera facing the VIP Petcare clinic. I asked the male employee to review the footage. He refused. I proceeded to file an official complaint against him at the corporate office. read more

Came to the store today just to grab some dog food for my French bulldog that's been really really picky lately. I was helped by a really nice guy that was in the frozen aisle he walked me through a whole bunch of different options gave me a lot of information. I think he could tell that I was trying to make the right decision for my dog and couldn't really make up my mind, so they let me take the bag home for free to test on my pup.
