I thought it would be nice to give him a bath.I did not know that Petco closed at 8pm on Sundays and the time was 7:55pm.I walked in the store and was greeted by the manger Graham.I told him my dog needed a bath and instead of turning me down he helped me to the dog washroom and got me all situated.He told me just take my time!! Outstanding! I just had the most exceptional customer service experience from the team at the pet food Express on oak Grove! Ana went out of her way for me! I had a long day at work and stopped by trader joe's and pet food express- after getting home I realized I left the pet food express bag in the cart at the store! I immediately called & Ana went to The parking lot to search for the missing bag! Although it wasn't found I went into the store and they covered a small bag of dog food the same one I had purchased! I don't generally buy my cat food or litter here (unless I'm desperate) - Target isn't that far and it's a little cheaper (though, the selection of wet food here is awesome!) But I buy my other pet supplies here - clothing (yes, Halloween costumes, but only on or after Halloween when they're marked 50% off), nail trimmers, etc. I have talked with the employees on several visits while waiting in line at checkout and I find them to be consistently genuine people with a real love for animals and pets. I believe this Halloween the two employees that helped me were Chris and Angie and they both seemed happy to be at work and both took the time to talk to me. Much appreciated. I've asked for help on other visits selecting a good food product and generally the staff is very knowledgable not only about their products but about items on the market (kitty drinking fountains, automatic little boxes...) When purchasing pet care items, it's reassuring to know I'm making an informed decision about what's safest or newest on the market. Only negative thing I can say about this place is I bought a "No Spray" kitty spray. Yeah, I should have known that's too good to be true. It was expensive too! But shame on me. If that stuff worked, NOBODY would complain about cats spraying and they could charge a lot more than they did. I have the receipt and it's sat on my counter for months to be returned. Somehow I just keep forgetting to take it back... If someone could perfect this solution, they'd make a fortune! read more

I've shopped at PFE for many years. I have 2 dogs and spend a good amount of money there. I usually shop a different location where customer service is excellent. This shop had horrible customer service. Hopped to use a coupon and they acted like I was stealing from them. Instead of offering a solution they turned me away. I also asked to use the restroom- they said they didn't have a public restroom. Which is not true! I've never been made to feel like a thief - which lead me to this review. I purchased a dog gate from the Pleasant Hill Store and it didn't fit so I came to this store to return the gate but neither of the two employees that were working were helpful. I ordered the item online and it had the sticker with the order number and I even showed them the email but they still couldn't help me. I live nearby this store and popped in because the location was convenient. I'm very satisfied with their selection of products and the cleanliness of the store. This review is long overdue!! Honestly, if you want to go to a pet store the cares about your pet's health and well being. Then I recommend going here. They are such a friendly staff. The manager (I forgot his name. I am so so sorry) and Ania (Forgive me for spieling your name wrong) is was so helpful when my husky wasn't eating any type of dog food. Huge shout out to Ania for finding the right one. They are so friendly with my pup and always acknowledge him no matter what they are doing. They have great deals and it's a super clean store. I honestly haven't had one bad experience. They are handling Covid in an excellent manner, they make sure everyone is safe by making sure we have our masks on and use hand sanitizer before walking in. Pet Food Express partner's with VIP-Petcare for drop-in pet vaccinations. Upon every visit, the ame VIP manager I've checked in with has been rude and condensending. I realize VIP is a separate entity. However, I called Pet Food Espress today and filed a complaint because this reflects badly on their business. From our conversation I got the impression that other customers have complained. As of now I'm taking my business to PetCo, where I can actually make an appointment, with a Vet for vaccinations, and not have to deal with this woman's attitude. read more

We have been customers of the Pet Food Express on Oak Grove Road in Concord for years. Everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful. I recently had a particularly great experience there. Pet Food Express has a policy that customers can return food purchased there that their pets don't like. We had purchased a $45 bag of cat food and our two felines did not like it. It seemed that the size of the kibble was too small; they are Maine Coons and prefer bigger pieces. We kept using it, but it was clear they didn't care for it. By the time I decided to return the bag, it was half empty. I felt guilty returning it. I sheepishly took it in and asked if they were taking returns during Covid. Two employees, Katie and Ania, assured me they were AND that I could return the half empty bag and get full credit for it! I must say that with all the "Karen" memes going around, I was hesitant to tell them my name! :P They then proceeded to help me find a dry food with bigger kibble pieces. I told them our 'boys' seem to prefer seafood. They referred me to a couple different brands. Katie said that her cat liked the game bird version of a particular brand and she knew the pieces were bigger. I was bent on seafood. But it's hard to tell the shape through the bag. They opened the seafood version of that brand to check the size and the kibble was very small. :( I felt bad that they had opened the bag. They said not to worry as they give the opened bags to local shelters! What a wonderful idea! I decided to try the gamebird version.(The boys love it!) I also bought canned food with their assistance with the balance of my credit. Katie and Ania are true assets to this business! Thank you, Katie and Ania! The next day I stopped in to tell the manager about these two wonderful employees. She also told me about the donations that Pet Food Express makes to area shelters and that the owners are local and actually live in the Bay Area! I am beyond appreciative of my pet food express location . I have several pets, who are each picky and beyond high maintenance in their own way, so trying new treats and everyday supplies can be a nightmare when you worry about wasting your money. Every time I come into this store each person who works there gives me so much support and help. From my rescue dog who is riddled with anxiety from god knows what trauma she had seen in her past life, to my moody and judgmental bully cat who takes her anger out on all who get in her path. My other cat who is often a victim of the others wrath. I have been given so much insight on how to help my fur balls to live happy and entitled lives every time I come in here. (I think this is what shopping used to be like )So today I walked in and was totally honest that I had bought this leash more than two months ago but it had already broken for reasons I still don't know. I told them that I completely understood if there was nothing they could do. but because it was a fancy swanky leash, I wanted to see if they could help me possibly get a replacement since it wasn't that old. Graham and his colleague we super understanding and not judgy as I explained my issue. So kind, so understanding and could not believe i got a replacement of the same leash! I also did an entire diatribe about my dogs recent vet visit (that was a sh*t show) and graham was so kind in letting me try some doggy treat samples since my dog was having a doosey of a week. I mean that's awesome ! There are so many things to complain about in this world so it's so nice to sit and think about how people's kindness truly change your day and how you interact with others afterwards in the day. I am so tired of going to crumby stores with kids staring at their phones and acting like I'm bothering them to spend my money. When I experience exceptional customer service it really changes my entire trajectory for the rest of my day. I like everyone at this location they have all been so incredible. While I am still waiting for my unemployed pets to get their own jobs to pay for all their stuff, I'm glad at least I have a place that brings me joy. read more

I so prefer the staff at the Pleasant Hill Store, the female store manager at Oak Grove is so unpleasant, rough and impersonal, especially compared to other stores. I like Pet Food Express in general, but their managers vary so widely and the staff too. It is dramatic between the stores. I try to always shop Pleasant Hill because they in general are far more pleasant, friendly and helpful than the Concord Oak Grove store. read more

Loved my experience here. Adopted my cat in walnut creek pet food express was told to buy this certain type of liter we liked it but the tracking was horrible hated it. Went into this pet food express Ashley!!! Who was an amazing help. They didn't have any of the litter I use out of the floor so I asked if they had any in the back and she was more than welcome to go check for me (Ashley you are a fresh breathe of air it's so nice to encounter friendly people working in retail ) anyways they didn't have the litter in the back and we started a convo about how bad the tracking is on the litter and she's suggested me a different kind. Always nice, good selection although a little on the expensive side. What do you expect being right next to Walnut Creek! My biggest complaint is the cost of dog washing. 18$. For $30 I can get my dog washed, blow dried, nails clipped and face trimmed for 30$. I do like that they have VIP Petcare that has clinics at that location for pet immunizations. read more

Haley is really knowledgeable and helpful as well. She gave so many treats to our puppy for doing all of her tricks - that was really sweet. If you buy three bags of dog food, you'll get the fourth one free. Within 30 days, you can return a dog food purchase for a refund or exchange if your pet didn't like it - the returned food goes to shelters! We purchase high-quality dog food, toothbrushes, toothpaste gel, and toys here. Excited to try out the self-wash in the back because Haley said the shampoo here is really good for dogs! We got four different flavors of the Fromm Family Foods Four Star Grain-Free Dry Dog Food (Salmon Tunalini, Beef Frittata, Pork and Peas, and Lamb and Lentil). 5 stars for the self service dogs wash stations! For $15 you get towels, water, dryer, and clean up! This is amazing!!! I can't believe we have been suffering washing Coco in our backyard this whole time. How it works: You purchase a token at the front desk and head to the back and pick out a station. They have a little staircase for your dog to walk up into the tub section, which puts your doggie at a perfect height for cleaning. You can tether your dog with the rubber collar they provide to the leashes on the wall. You put in your token and select the button to have warm water, or shampoo&conditioner, and then the dryer. You have 25 minutes to get it done and at the end they clean up the mess. Although the shampoo/conditioner is the Earthbath brand we use, it felt and smelled different. Next time I will just use the warm water and our own supplies. I love that they provide aprons but I am definitely investing in gloves. Don't forget to bring your brush and some treats. This is the best self service dog wash and the staff are all so friendly! read more

I just had the best experience. My boyfriend and I typically go in to bathe our Golden in their self service wash area which we love! All of a sudden, our Golden stopped eating her regular food so I was blindly thinking about switching her food and not knowing what to do to get her to eat. That is when RB (I believe her name was Ruth) came to the rescue! All I needed was some genuine help and information and this is exactly what she did! She gave me her honest educated opinions and walked me through so many food options that would fit our lifestyle. She was so incredibly helpful that I can't even begin to express how pleased I am! My 16 year old cat was diagnosed with cancer and was told only option was to put her down. I did one last effort to try a different kind of food. I was overwhelmed with options. An employee by the name of Ruth approached me and educated me on importance of raw foods for my cat to maybe help her. She gave me great info and now 1 month later I no longer have to force feed my cat and she's thriving walking on her own and feeling great. The vet was amazed at my cats progress. I can honestly say if it wasn't for these employees... who are genuinely passionate for what they do... my cat would have never survived another week. My dog needed flea treatment and I was in the neighborhood so I just thought Id come here. I love, love love great customer service. I was immediately greeted as I walked in and asked if I needed help. I said yes and I needed flea treatment for my wiener dog. I was guided right over there and, for some reason, flea treatment is locked up and she unlocked the case for me and got the one I needed out. Its more expensive here than it is from my local pet store. But I was here and needed it so whatever. The store seems small but it has a lot of stuff in it. I wasn't expecting such a selection. We adopted our Native American Indian Dog January 1, 2012. At 4 years old (when he joined our home) he had NEVER had a bath, had his teeth brushed, or a toy that wasn't rubber. I was apprehensive/felt bad/shy about giving him a bath, so I walked him from my house, about 2 miles, to this PFExpress. The lady was SO nice to me. She answered most all of my questions, comforted me, and offered me advice. He refused to go into the bath stall, and I was walking out when she approached me and asked if she could try. She was able to kindly coax him into the stall and leave me to my devises. We still go here, over a year later, and Miacho hates it at first, but never minds walking in the store and getting so much attention. When I talked to her about getting Miacho's teeth cleaned, she showed me what she uses on her dogs, and told me how to use it. It really did help. Wow this store is just awesome after visiting bigger stores this is in its own class. I usually go to Petsmart or Petco to get food for my woof. I just happened to check this store out as it was right next to Trader Joes and I haven't tried them for a long time and I decided to get them a try. My first impression after going in to the store are all 5 star from cleanliness, to stock in the store, amazing staff and they have a pet wash area. If you are not familiar to this store it is a medium sized store compared to the larger chains but has most of the top brands for your furry needs. The staff are absolutely awesome, they are neither in your face to win your $$ or could care less attitude but have genuine friendly approach. I usually go and pick up dog food or use their wash area which is really clean as well... There's decent parking in the complex similar qualms as my review for Trader Joes... All I can say is that, If you had a tail you would want to wag it too... read more

They have an excellent choice of products and constantly upgrade their food and treats keeping an eye on product origin and quality.
