I've placed countless orders from Pet Food Express and typically make purchases at their Freeport location in Sacramento. I always utilize their buy three bags, get the fourth bag free promo when placing online orders. Unfortunately the Freeport location didn't have enough bags in stock so I decided to purchase from the Fair Oaks location. To my disappointment, I received a phone call and text from Reagan stating they didn't have enough product in stock. Things happen and while it's frustrating, I just wanted to get things over with and have the proper quantity that day, as our cats are picky and do not like fishy flavored food. She was beyond clueless and I tried multiple times to paint the simple picture of what I was looking to accomplish. Pick up what they were offering (two bags of chicken and pea, two bags of salmon, and exchange the salmon for the chicken and pea at the Freeport location). I was placed on hold and spoke to her manager Jamie who was equally clueless and lazy. She told me the Freeport location would only hold the chicken bags for two hours and I wasn't able to pick up my order from her store within that time frame, let alone go to another location. When I've encountered this issue from the Freeport location, Celeste and her team have always been apologetic, kind, and accommodating. They've offered to transfer bags from other stores whenever possible, or have offered me the same amount of food in smaller bags. I will never step foot into this location again and hope they can get their act together since I like the company but can't stomach this location and their antics. We're all human and we all make mistakes. I'm not upset about the mistake; I'm beyond frustrated at how I was treated and their lack of empathy. Gas is $6+ a gallon and I wasted my time and money due to their inventory error. The Elk Grove location can't open soon enough and I'll continue to patronize the Freeport location in the interim. read more

Dropped by Wednesday morning July 9th (because apparently people make stuff up and write fake reviews) and I walked towards the doors and a lady popped out to drop the signage. I step inside the store, grab a cart and hear a woman say "we don't open til 9." I look down at my watch and it was 8:58 and she wants to kick me out of the store? It would take me two minutes to find what I was there for, put it in the car, and proceed to the counter. Take some free advice from someone who knows this stuff, on account of people-ing all these years. When the doors are open, the general assumption to be made is that you are open for business. I can already hear the excuses so allow me. You can open the doors at 9, drop the signage, and that way, you don't have the opportunity to treat your customers with such disrespect. This place is great! I'm new to NorCal and have never heard of PFE until yesterday afternoon. I will absolutely be coming back here!!! What a cool and interesting store. They have tons of selections for your critters. I got my fur baby a new collar here as well as a variety pack of treats. When you go to the register, the clerks (who are all very kind, helpful, and friendly btw!) will offer you some free samples. Take them! My doggo loved the jerky samples, which they apparently have on sale for the whole month! If you're an animal lover, give this place a shot. You won't regret it. This store has the best staff! Friendly and not pushy at all. We went in to bath our husky (think 10 lbs of fur!) and they had left a small bag of food on each set of towels,. Our dog loved the food and we'll be back for a bag of that particular food. read more

We come in every 1-2 months to use the self-service dog wash stations. It is $18 a wash using their coins that you buy at the register. They do a B3G1 deal to help cut costs if you plan to return. I thought you get 15 mins per coin, but last time I went the staff told me it is 25 minutes. There are 3 different shampoo options: almond, hemp, and eucalyptus (I think). The hose has multiple different spray options. There is a rinse option too. The blow dryers work great, especially if you add the optional nozzle. They have plenty of towels and treats, and you can always ask for more or just grab them. The staff are SO helpful and kind. They check on me regularly to see if I need any other supplies. In the past the shampoo has been low, so they brought me a cup from the back to supplement. They also have knowledge on the shampoos for sale in the store if you need something more specific. Aside from the bath stations, I always find that the customer service here is great. They love to offer my dogs treats (with permission) and are so knowledgeable on every item in the store. read more

My first time here, and honestly, I had a pleasant experience. I came in to ask a general question on where the "joint supplements" are for elderly dogs, and there was only 1 staff on duty that I saw on a slow day. she kindly assisted me with where it was and provided an in-depth knowledge on the different supplements and what she would rather recommend if price was not a factor as the higher priced tier has better benefits as oppose the some-what cheaper tier of joint supplements. One thing I find fascinating about Pet Express, they have a self-service pet wash. Which has an open concept so you don't feel claustrophobic in a tiny room like VIP Pets. You purchase an $18 token, and the token is used for the self-service pet wash station. Pros: -They offer a lot of the same items as most pet food stores and including supplies/toys and all things pet-related. -A lot of fresh food in the fridge aisle if you opt to feed your pets with actual food, and none of the canned/dried food once in a while. And they are fairly cheaper than "The Farmer's Dog" brand when I order online. -Friendly and knowledgeable staff. -Clean and not as chaotic store, well organized. -Self Service Pet wash available for $18 (excluding tax). Shampoo/Drier/Towel is provided with the service. Cons: -No military/veteran's discount. :( As opposed to 'VIP Pets' that offers military/veterans discount. I come here to give my doggies a bath at the Dog Wash Station in the back of the store. Located in Loehmann's Plaza, parking can be a little tough at peak times. There are a ton of businesses and eateries worth visiting here. You can buy a pack of (I think) five wash tokens which comes out to a very reasonable price per wash. You can also buy them individually. It gets busy, especially on the weekends. The staff works hard to keep the wash stations turned over but it can get a bit messy. Love that they have plastic dog collars and waterproof aprons you can borrow during your visit. One token last ~15 minutes or time (rinse, wash, blowing). I have two dogs and one token is enough time to wash both of them. My dogs are not.a fan of the loud and extremely cold blower. I wish there were a heated dryer system. The towels are thin and you need several per dog. The soap comes out via the sprayer but isn't strong enough. I highly suggest purchasing and/or using your own soap in addition to get your pup extra clean. Staff is great, they know how to direct you to the product you need or may want to try. I told her it was my first time she showed me and explain everything to me how to do self service. I did not expect her giving me token for free she said since it's my first time it's free. Everyone is so helpful. I was confused what to do at first but they come and help. They also sell some dog food and toys. I recommend this place to all is you want to wash your dog here or buys some food or toys for your dog/cat some other animals too. My pup deserves they best ! Sometimes we end up spending a small fortune on visits here , and it's totally worth it . A one stop shop for all his dietary needs and then some ! They have a nice assortment of toys , accessories, and a small section in the back for self serve baths and blow outs for your pups . So my dog does not care for grooming services of any sort , so I haven't tried it out, but good know that its available. Pet Food Express is our absolute savior when it comes to bathing our two giant Great Pyrenees. I absolutely love how spacious their tubs are and the fact that we can bathe both of our Pyrenees at the same time. In between professional grooming sessions, their bathing facilities are a lifesaver. We usually bring our own shampoo but shampoo is provided with the cost of the bath. Went in one Sunday morning 02/02/25 with my husband and Winnie our one year old Boston Terrier. Right when we walked in we were greeted by two friendly people who immediately wanted to see what they could help us with and took a couple minutes to love on Winnie. One of the friendly faces was Priti and boy was I happy to meet her. I at first of course knew what I needed and didn't need any help. She saw what I had put in my basket and had asked me if I had heard about some alternative food toppers that was healthier and a better price. She walked me over to the freezer section and showed me all different kinds of food that had no preservatives and all organic. Took her time to explain to me different types and how they work. We took home some new food to add to our Open Farm dry. Which Winnie absolutely loves. Later on she observed me over in the fish oil section and came over and explained all the different kinds and the benefits each one does. We are actually going back tonight to pick up a couple different things to add to our daily routine. Priti went above and beyond in my book. She not only took the time to explain everything to me she had great knowledge about other items I had no clue about. I am so glad I came across this business. Upon entering, the employees are very nice and attentive to your needs. I decided to take my dog here for a bath because other grooming places are too expensive. This place charges $18 and you can take your time to groom and bathe your pet. They also provide you with towels as well (major plus for those dogs with longer hair) They had a deal where you buy 3 bath tokens and get 1 free. They also have a variety of many different things such as leashes, collars, harnesses, and many different brands of food for dogs and cats. This place is clean and offer good food for my pets. The only thing I dislike is when you check out and they ask for donations to animals. Glad to donate, but a lot of donations go to administrative fees / employees rather than the animals. Just like what's going on with the unhoused. A lot of money go to employees / managers rather than helping the cause. I wish there was a QR code on the receipt to ask for donations than asking it out loud. Or if they allow me to buy animal food from their store and put it in an animal food drive that would be even better then I know it's 100% going to the animals. I love this store and the employees are so wonderful. A few months ago we wanted to try some new food for our sensitive tummy dogs, the person working (I can't remember maybe their name was Ryan or Tyler) walked us around the store telling us about the different options. It was so helpful, and they asked to see a picture of our dogs which warms my heart every time. Today I went in, holding my baby in her car seat and said hello and told Tucker I was getting their namesake food. Without missing a bet Tucker asked if I needed help (the food is frozen, kinda heavy and on the top shelf) I happily said yes. Then to make things even better there was a sale! There are a lot of chain pet food stores out there that don't get what Pet Food Express is all about, which is basically giving the customers what they want. I've never had high expectation when it comes to pet supply stores, but I love that everything from the variety to the service is well thought out here. I usually stop in when I'm in the area as this store isn't especially close to me, but it always makes me want to come back. They have several brands of food and supplies for both dogs and cats that you won't find elsewhere and they always have someone on hand to answer questions. I usually just like to buy some litter, wander the aisles and maybe buy my cats a new toy. I even came here once with a friend who took their dog in and swears by their dog washing service. One of the most special times is when they occasionally bring in animals for sale. This review is for the self-serve dog wash. The self-serve dog wash is $15 for 25 minutes. There's a special to buy 3 washes and get the 4th one free. This comes out to be $45 for 4 washes making it $11.25 each--which is the cheaper than anywhere else. The wash stations are operated by coins so purchase the coins at the front register. Waterproof aprons are also provided. The wash station includes towels, waterproof collar, shampoo and a blower to dry. There's steps leading into the tubs so larger dogs can walk right into the tubs. There is a short leash attached to each wash station to prevent dogs from jumping out. I bring my own toothbrush and brush so I can groom my dog while he's stuck in the tub. Once the coin is inserted, the 25 minutes starts. There are knobs for water, shampoo, and blow dry. The first step is the warm water rinse. I rinse my dog then switch it to the shampoo. The shampoo is diluted into the water so I can hose my dog down. There are a few options for shampoo. I always use the oatmeal shampoo for my dog's sensitive skin. There is usually an extra bottle of shampoo by the clean-up area for some extra shampooing. I let my dog soak a little and then I'll rinse him with warm water. The last step is the blow drying. The dryer doesn't blow warm air so it takes a long time to dry my dog. I usually just end up towel drying him. The dryer is also really loud and sounds like a vacuum so my dog isn't particularly fond of it. While I can wash my dog at home for free, I do prefer the self-serve dog wash better. For one, it's clean-free. I come here and have everything provided and I don't have to deal with cleaning up my dog's fur or dealing with puddles of water. The tub is also elevated so I don't have to bend over as much. read more
