I have 3 frenchies ranging in ages 4-7 one of them throws up quite a bit after eating and this is the first time in years that he ate and did not throw up right afterwards after drinking water They have a lifetime new buyer. I don't know if they deliver the gal that helped me yesterday was extremely helpful & I was able to have a package that was made fresh from the day for them to eat when I arrived home. I had a rescue who lived to be 22+ and I started him on Healthy Hounds a few years before he died and it made a noticeable difference his his overall health and well-being. I have few health problems with them and they all seem to grow into old age without incident. If you go into the store, it's meticulous, as clean as any restaurant around. The staff are friendly. The food may be pricey for some, but I'd suggest using their food in conjunction with kibble. Easy to order, lots of choice so we found one the dogs like/will eat. The dogs are fussy eaters, Maltese mix and pug mix. Custom packaging sizes to fit meal servings. Staff is exceptionally nice and accommodating. They remember what you ordered and always ask if that's what is wanted. The big deal is that our dogs look healthier. We have 2 rescues, both had shaved spots post surgery. The fur did not grow back until we changed to Healthy Hounds. AND both dogs just seemed to settle into a healthy weight without struggle. I've been feeding my dogs a fresh diet for about 2 years now and recently switched to healthy hounds from our previous subscription that was delivered monthly to our door from a processing facility in Reno. Healthy hounds definitely has superior quality, small and local, plus it's actually fresh, not frozen. I get 25 pound batches and split it between 2 recipes. When the food is ready they call to let me know it's available for pick up, but if I'm not able to pick up that day they gladly keep it in the fridge till I'm able to pick it up. The odor is hard to explain, but you do get used to it the longer you are in there. The dog print on the wall was adorable. I bought two small bags of food just to see if my dogs would like it. Charming small shop in the McKinley Park area that sells gourmet frozen fresh dog food. It is not conveniently located for me and has a tiny parking lot, but was worth the trip. They have a good selection of choices. High quality ingredients and interesting recipes. Our dog loved the pork meal. I've been feeding Lady Healthy Hounds exclusively for 3 years and noticed a dramatic difference in her skin, coat and energy levels immediately. I did my research online before going in, so I had a lot of questions and the young man working behind the counter answered all of them. He appreciated my understanding of what I wanted and helped me understand which product was right for my dogs. We tried a few recipes and found our fit: Turkey! 2) You can smell the food / see them cooking it. Being able to feed my dogs a fresh healthy meal is invaluable to me. We had some gastric issues with one dog recently and needed to try some new options besides high-end kibble. 3) My dogs literally salivate for this product. Been here a couple times now to pick up treats & food for my puppies. We've (meaning the dogs & I) tried the chicken & beef treats! I can safely say I've researched dog food more than the average person. As an animal behaviorist, I begin every consultation by discussing medical and nutritional factors. It's not that all behavior issues are directly caused by a sub-optimal diet, but problems will always be worse in an animal that doesn't feel well. I'm also the parent of a 13 year old Boston Terrier who had his gallbladder removed last year, making him prone to acute pancreatitis which is easily triggered if he eats the wrong thing. So choosing dog food is literally a life-and-death decision for us. As if that wasn't tricky enough, he's also on medication for Cushing's disease, which suppresses his appetite. So trust me when I say I've tried pretty much every Rx, commercial and home-cooked option to find a nutritionally safe diet that he will consistently eat. Healthy Hounds has been a godsend - the quality and consistency of the food itself is exceptional, the low-waste packaging is amazing (I can't even describe how smart it is), the price is comparable to other fresh/frozen/dehydrated brands, and their customer service is excellent, too. If there's a downside it's only that they don't ship or deliver, which means frequent trips to one of their two locations to pick up if you don't have a lot of freezer space (my awesome neighbors recently offered to let me use their freezer, so now I can buy in bulk and feed it to both of my dogs). However, it's pretty clear that staying local and focusing their effort on quality rather than rapid growth and logistics is what makes the product superior to all other brands. As much as I wish I could recommend them to clients who live outside the area, I'm so grateful they're committed to providing the best food possible for dogs here in Sacramento. read more

Someone told me about Healthy Hounds after a discussion about my puppy and his distain for kibble. He will hunger strike for days because he doesn't want his food but wants anything that comes from the fridge. Getting him to eat is a chore - insert Healthy Hounds. Emailed them early in the day about general info and they got back to me super quickly! We went in after work and the store was super clean, big and bright. It's funny to be inside a business that has this huge kitchen that makes fresh dog food. Such a concept. Chris gave me two great suggestions for picky eaters and even had a fresh bag that was ready for eating tonight (normally batches are frozen and you have to thaw). Gave me all the info I needed in regards to serving size etc. Got home, put some in a bowl for Mr. Picky and I've never seen him eat so fast in my life. Healthy Hounds is a breath of fresh air. They make delicious dog food with fresh ingredients that are well balanced for dogs. And if you get here on the day that they make your particular flavor, you don't even have to buy the food frozen. I come on Mondays now because that's when the Beef and Sweet Potato is made fresh. There are two reasons that I buy from here. First, because my dog really likes the food. That's important to me. Second, I know exactly what ingredients are in the food and that gives me some peace of mind. Those dog dry food bags that you buy at the pet store could have anything in them. I won't go into graphic detail, but we've all heard the horror stories about what goes into dry food. I hope this place can continue to be in business for years to come. I know that specialty stores have difficulty surviving, especially in Sacramento for some reason. I don't know how many sneaker stores have come and gone from here in the last ten years. Neptune loves going here! He always walks towards the kitchen area where he sees all the workers as he loves the smell of the yummy food!
