I would encourage anyone that is considering donating to, or adopting from BFHS to read the…read moreemployee reviews at Indeed.com to get some insight into the way animals and employees are treated. I wouldn't discourage anyone from adopting here, as it's what is best for the animals. Just know a bit about what type of organization and management you are dealing with. When we recently adopted there was one front desk employee that was continually very snarky. We could not get any real idea of when we could pick up the dog we agreed to adopt. We had to wait for her to be spayed, and the employee seemed to delight in telling us they couldn't give us much of a timeline. I visited our new dog every day the shelter was open while we were waiting for her to be spayed. Almost every day this same snarky employee made it clear they didn't have the staff for someone to let the dog out of her kennel for me. I had made it clear on every visit that I only wanted to say hi and visit through the kennel door. On the one day that employee wasn't there I was immediately offered a meet and greet room to spend some time with our new dog. Quite a difference. There is absolutely no follow up after you adopt. Read the descriptions on Pet Finder and you will immediately notice the over-use of the same cut and pasted phrases. It's difficult to feel like you're getting an honest assesment of each dog. 2 star rating from charity navigator. I absolutely wouldn't support this place financially. The reviews on indeed.com point to fear based management being used to bully employees who actually care about the animals.

When I adopted my dog I spent a lot of time searching which Vet was the best at the moment, I find…read moreColumbia Veterinary Clinic with a great staff and good prices, I use them for many years but now the building is empty and I do not know they go.... If any of you know where is the new location could you let me know? Thanks

Dog needed to be "fixed". I thought I would do a little research. I googled "Average cost of…read moreneuter". Came out to be $150 or so. So when I started calling all the local vets I was shocked to learn that it was going to cost $300 to $330 to get the little operation done. I went and asked around at work. "Definitely call Columbia Veterinary Clinic." What a difference. $127 for the same service!!! Now the place is a bit of a dive, but the dog doesn't care! The procedure is like McDonalds (and I say this as a good thing). It is an "in and out" kind of a thing. 1. You set up appointment 2. You drop off dog between 7:30 and 9:00 am (there is a line of people waiting to get animals checked in) 3. The talk fast and curt: they want information, they write it down and someone takes the dog immediately to the back room 4. You pick up the dog between 3 and 4, and they mean it. Don't be late or there is a fine. BUT DID I MENTION THEY ARE ARE INEXPENSIVE. Now I supposed you could go somewhere else, have a smiling vet come out, shake your hand, tell you how cute your dog is, and this can all be done in a new fancy building with dog leashes for sale hanging off the wall...BUT THE DOG DOESN'T CARE! And neither should you. Save the money, and take your pet here. Sooo much cheaper than anywhere else. BTW, my dog also had a hernia. Another $50 took care of it while he was still under. I am sure it would have been 3 times that somewhere else. One more thing...if this seems impersonal and you wonder if the vet is going to do a good job...there was research done recently on hospitals that specialize in heart surgeries (for humans) that showed the doctor who did surgeries all day learned to do it quickly and better than those who did fewer. I am sure this vet is a professional who knows his stuff...you don't meet him because he is doing what he does best, taking care of your dog.

I said he usually takes 3 hours, she assured me she could do it in 1 1/2 hours or 2...I said really take all the time you need. His whole underside is skinned, no trimming on the long hair around his parts, skinned patches EVERYWHERE, crooked face, specifically said no fluffy mustache, close shave, of course it was a fluffy crooked mustache. There was a huge patch of long hair hanging down on his butt plain as day!! When I got home and looked at him because of course when you pick up your baby their excited and wanting to get out as quick as possible so looking them over especially for my dog who has bad anxiety isn't possible. First thing I cut the huge chunk of hair hanging down, tried to fix his face cut the huge tuft of long hair hanging off his chest , just sick of it. I spend so much money and place after place either doesn't take the time or cuts him without telling me, I don't get it just so disappointed.
