I purchased this guy from Pet Zone when he was only 3 1/2 inches long. Now 4 months later and he's grown immensely!

Almost 1 year after purchase and my fish has grown from 4 to almost 12 inches! Zero health issues and thriving!!

Amazing business. The couple that owned the store were very nice and educational. All the tanks were cleaned to the brim and didn't spot any dead fish. We ended up walking away with 8 beautiful fish. My girlfriend and I are very excited for our new fish hobby and this was a great first stop. I also recommend their Kearny Mesa location. We stopped by and the staff there was very friendly and helpful with the plants and 3 fish we selected. Definitely a life long customer of this business.

Ordered some cave tetras from here. Paid twice as much in shipping than the actual fish costed (for overnight with the live delivery guarantee). I'm glad I did! Fish shipped asap and arrived asap. They were packaged well in a temp controlled container. All 8 have been in my tank for about a week now and seem incredibly healthy

Placed an online order on August 25th, it just arrived today, September 9th (overnight delivery). I called a few days ago to check in, since I hadn't had any email updates on the delay. The guy I talked to was super nice and helpful on the phone, explained what was going on. I'm okay with the delay, understand things are slow with COVID. Also, I'm in Texas, and the weather is in the 80s today, so the delay was good to avoid temps in the 100s. Anyway, ordered 5 glass catfish, all arrived alive and seem to be healthy. Three stars because I ordered 8 halfbeaks, and 4 were dead on arrival. The other 4 are looking pretty bad, probably because of the ammonia in the bag from the dead ones. Instead of acclimating them, I just threw the live ones directly into the tank (heavily planted 55g). I don't think they would have made it much longer in the bag, and hoping they may be able to pull through. Just disappointed because I've had a hard time finding the halfbeaks here in Texas, and I was really hoping to have a nice little group of them for my tank. Update: All 8 halfbeaks have died, think the ammonia in the bag was too much for them. ): The glass cats are doing great, though!

I question the quality of their product after my first betta fish got fin rot and died. That was a $30 fish the owner told me it had a little rot when I bought it but it was growing back fine and it should be fine. Well it didn't, it died in under a month. I do feel I'm partially to blame for that because I didn't know I was supposed to change the water so often. I Also got a snail and a frog. The snail died within two weeks and the frog completely disappeared so I don't know if the betta ate the frog or what happened. I decided to buy a whole new tank with a filtration system so that I wouldn't have to keep changing the water all the time Now I go back I get a new $30 beta a new frog($5) a plant ($7), and a new snail($4). The snail died within 2 days. The plant was gone/dead within the week but my betta is thriving. I have a pH monitor so I know it wasn't the pH. It baffles me that the snail and the plant died so quickly. The frog I can't find again he disappeared and then reappeared a few days later but is missing again so maybe he lives in the gravel? Anyway I don't think a snail should die in 2 days and the plant should have lasted a hell of a lot longer than a week. I feel like I did everything correct on my end so it must be that they're selling some bad products.

We road-tripped to San Diego to pick up our auction winnings and ended up hanging around so long I'm pretty sure John started wondering whether we were planning to move in. The entire crew was incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and patient, even while I repeatedly attempted to negotiate my way into owning several shrooms that were very clearly outside my budget. To their credit, they politely declined my brilliant proposals involving discounts, sympathy, and what I considered highly persuasive arguments. The coral selection is absolutely insane. Every time you think you've found your favorite piece, another one appears that you suddenly "can't live without." The auctions are an absolute blast and have become one of the highlights of the hobby. Great people, great deals, friendly competition, and enough excitement to keep everyone glued to the chat. Honestly, they're more fun than a frat party, and judging by the number of times "explain that one to your wife" comes up in the auction chat, I'm clearly not the only one making questionable financial decisions in pursuit of beautiful corals. Most importantly, the corals are stunning, healthy, and exactly as advertised. It's obvious these guys genuinely care about quality and about the reefing community they've built around their auctions. If you're looking for amazing corals and an equally amazing group of people, Kungfu Corals is absolutely worth checking out. Just don't blame me when you find yourself trying to justify another mushroom coral purchase to your family after swearing the last one was your final coral of the year.

However, this place is located near other shops so you might want to explore the area while you're in town. There were some clothing shops and record shops and restaurants. I would've figured that the price point would be a little bit higher since this is a little bit more boutique, but the price was fair and comparable to Petco or PetSmart. Avoid this place. I…read morespent thousands of dollars with SD Aqua and regret ever doing business with them. It started when I purchased premium-priced live rock from SD Aqua. Within days of adding it to my tank, the entire system began crashing. The rock appeared to be in terrible condition, my sand bed turned black, and the tank was effectively ruined. As someone relatively new to the hobby, I relied on SD Aqua's expertise and guidance. Instead, I was left dealing with a disaster. To address the problem, SD Aqua referred me to a person named Andrew to help fix the tank. Unfortunately, the situation only got worse. The work performed created additional plumbing problems that later had to be corrected. We relied on the recommendations of people who presented themselves as experts, and that trust turned out to be a costly mistake. While the tank was being repaired, we entrusted our fish to SD Aqua for temporary holding. Several fish died while in their care. The remaining fish were returned in poor condition and soon showed signs of disease. Over the following weeks, we watched fish die one after another despite significant effort and expense trying to save them. Anyone who keeps saltwater fish understands how devastating it is to watch animals slowly decline and die after investing so much time, money, and care into them. What makes the entire experience even more frustrating is the complete lack of accountability. We were left with a destroyed tank, dead fish, damaged plumbing, and thousands of dollars in losses. One additional concern was the business practices we encountered afterward. When I later tried to obtain copies of receipts for purchases and services, SD Aqua was unable to provide complete records. Many of our transactions had been made through Zelle because we were repeatedly told the credit card system was unavailable. As a customer who spent a substantial amount of money with the business, I found it troubling that obtaining basic documentation of purchases was so difficult. At a minimum, it reflected a level of disorganization and poor recordkeeping that was consistent with the rest of our experience. The owner, Diego, was ultimately responsible for our account, and Andrew was the individual recommended to work on our system. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone--especially those new to the hobby--against relying on this store for fish, water, rock, advice, tank services, or system design. There are too many reputable aquarium stores in Southern California to risk going through what we did. My experience with SD Aqua was expensive, frustrating, and ultimately devastating to the aquarium we worked so hard to build.
