We recently completed Puppy Training at this Petco and had a great experience. Our class ended up being just two dogs, which meant the trainer could really meet us where we were at with skills. Dustin was fantastic -- friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer questions or give extra guidance. Our puppy made huge progress socializing thanks to him. The store itself is well stocked, and order pickup is always easy and reliable, which I really appreciate. My only complaint is the cleanliness. There always seems to be miscellaneous trash on the floors, likely from other customers, but it means I'm practicing "leave it" and "drop it" way more than necessary with a curious puppy. Overall, great training experience and solid store -- just hoping they improve floor cleanliness. read more

Horrible grooming experience on 6/26/26, Dante S. Groomed the dog and had trouble trimming his face and made his tail look like corn dog, he also trimmed too close to his privates and gave him like razor burn. I contacted customer service and filed a formal complaint and was told nothing would be done, so here is where I start my crusade against Petco! Never going there again! Also, we were quoted $83 over the phone and when we got in to pick our dog up, the hill was $126, the manager gave us a lousy $15 discount... Never again! read more

I am a frequent Petco shopper. My husband and I are in Petco stores at least 2-4 times a week. We have spent thousands of dollars at this business only to find out they do not return salt water fish. Nowhere in this establishment that we have ever been have we ever seen a sign saying salt water fish are not returnable. In all the years of salt water fish purchased in store we have NEVER had an employee verbalize to us salt water fish are not returnable if they are sick and die. On Sunday we were looking into making a purchase of salt fish. There were no employees in sight at 4:45pm (they close at 6) I went to get help and the young man tried telling me there was nobody to help me with aquatics; I let him know I was not leaving until I got help. We waited a little while and a girl showed up to help and we purchased two tangs from Petco Augusta. The young man cashing us out asked me "would you like your receipt in case something happens and you need to return them" which yes, we ALWAYS take a receipt when buying livestock from a pet store. The mimic tang we bought is fine and doing amazing however the clown tang which so happens to be the more expensive of the two fish we purchased, was sick. We did not see under the trash lighting the ich spots on his fins and on his head , they blended in very well to his coloration. Thankfully I NEVER place any new fish directly into my established reef tank, they go into a QT tank for two weeks. We made it 4 days in and the clown tang has passed away. My water parameters are not the problem (ammonia 0ppm; Nitrite 0ppm and Nitrate 5.0 ppm water was drawn off the main tank for the QT setup. Salinity is 1.22 specific gravity) I called the store yesterday morning as soon as I could when they were open only to have the young lady who answered promptly talk over me and state she "doesn't make the corporate policies" and that I needed to call corporate she placed me on an extremely long hold to which I could not wait anymore as I was working so I had to hang up. I found the corporate number myself and they were no help either, they simply do not care that this establishment sold a sick fish that perished after I purchased it, I was on that call for over 45 minutes. I then called the store back yet again and got the assistant store manager who advised me he was "blacked out from issuing credits on salt fish" and that I would need to call back tomorrow and talk to the "general manager" so I called yet again this afternoon to only be talked over the entire time by this so called manager, she sounded like a robot had no empathy. She told me "it's company policy for the last 5 years" she also stated it was printed right on the bags that there is no returns on salt fish, which really who reads the small print on the bags? She claims she has a sign hanging on the desk of the fish area which in all the years I have been shopping here, we have never seen. Multiple employees have bagged up salt fish for me and handed bags to me at the fish tanks NOT the desk. Perhaps their employees should start telling people company policy on the item they are buying and also have the signs posted AT THE TANKS. When I advised her we are taking our business elsewhere she replied with "that's fine" ; so clearly the company doesn't give a care that they are selling sick fish knowing they will not make the situation right. Downright disgusting "customer service" ; Petco owners should be ashamed! read more

My friends and I went here to get some fish for our new fish tanks. We selected our fish then waited 10 min after asking two different people for help. After waiting we asked again and got "oh i thought someone was helping you." The woman who came to "help" us was EXTREMELY rude. She basically interviewed us and drilled us with questions about the specific fish we were purchasing. Angelfish. Our friend has had his Angelfish for over 11 years and we did not ask her help or opinion about the fish we simply asked her to get them for us. My friend wanted two and i wanted two, she hesitated even getting us our two because she assumed they were going in the same tank. After explaining ourselves she finally got them for us. This is the worst experience i've EVER had at this store and non of us will ever go back. I wish i knew what her name is so that i could call and speak to a manager. The most uncomfortable i've ever felt just trying to buy fish. I understand working right now is stressful, but coming from another "essential employee" if you don't like your job, find a new one. read more

If you like incompetent & unprofessional staff, aisles completely blocked by large pallets and virtually no selection to chose from than this Petco is for you. One evening I popped in after work - I couldn't find the product I was looking, but knew they carried. So I asked the manager and rather than actually assist me he pointed in the general direction & said it's behind that pallet. read more

The store seemed like it was going through some sort of renovation or reorganization​. We were greeted as we entered through the doors and occasionally​ an employee would walk by​ and see if we needed help. They had a large selection of fish, both freshwater and saltwater. They even carry a large selection of reptiles and hamsters and the supplies for them. It's a bit out of the way from everything else in Augusta but worth a look if you're in the area! It's the typical experience you'd get when visiting PetCo. read more

Called Petco to ask if they carried mealworms. WORST customer service I have ever received. As soon as they picked up the phone I got a blunt "Hi." With them not even mentioning what store it is or asking if they could help. When I asked if they had the mealworms they replied "yes". So I then asked if they had any waxworms and got "I don't think so" When I asked if there was anybody who could double check so I didn't make the trip down to Augusta for nothing, they scoffed and hung up the phone. Basically, he yelled at me to move my service dog (even though service dogs have a right of away over other dogs, even in pet friendly buildings,) because an untrained dog in the store kept barking and lunging at him. In disbelief, I asked him why he was asking me this. His response? "BECAUSE YOU'VE BEEN ASKED TO!" Again, I asked why. Even louder, this rude and disrespectful employee yelled, "BECAUSE YOU'VE BEEN ASKED TO!" as if I was some child, (and people should not even be treating strangers' children like that, let alone a grown woman.) The dog trainer who I was supposed to have a session with did nothing to remedy the situation, just stood there like a deer caught by headlights, and being distracted by a dog she had no business with at that time. Understandably, I was angry, and took myself, my dog, and my business elsewhere. Although I complained to the manager, and he kept insisting that Petco had a "policy" against allowing visiting animals to interact with one another. (Never mind I had NOT been allowing my dog to interact!) However, anyone with any common sense understands it's almost impossible to prevent animals walking around a big box store from interacting in some way, unless they are specifically being trained to ignore other dogs, like mine. Went in to look for a addition to the family, while discussing with my significant other via phone I was rudely confronted as I was sending her a photo of the little guy to her for the final decision. The mid to late fifty's female employee unprofessionally grumbled no photos allowed in this store, ( flash was not being used nor was there signs posted that I could find that said no photography ) would not recommend this store at all. read more

this had to be one of the worst places i have been! i do not shop here any longer. the fish tanks are beyond over stocked, the prices are outrageous on most items, and they have limited items in store. and the service is something to be desired! I made the mistake of bringing my 3 year old with me when i went into this store to pick out decorations for our aquarium. one of the employees got upset cause he was touching them.... 1. they were plastic not even breakable 2. he was placing them into the cart! i was watching him and he wasn't being rough or mishandling them in any way! needless to say i left the cart and went to another store.I now go to either PetSmart or Pet Life. better service and prices, and i can bring my children in with me should i choose without getting second class treatment. will look forward to this store closing one day. from the way it has gone, i am thinking soon! read more
