I recently was in a pinch and decided to have them groom my newly adopted Yorkie! We had a grooming appointment that got cancelled in Randolph the day before the appointment and we really needed our dog groomed. I called the day before and they had an appointment the next day! The girl on the phone was extremely nice and made all the arrangements for the next days appointment. Dropping off my dog was very easy and my dog was not nervous at all. They had him done within two hours and he looked terrific! Cheaper than any groomer I've ever had my dog done at, too! I definitely would come back here in a heart beat!! Also, from my last post the place is much cleaner and the smell is completely gone of urine! They've cleaned up this place A LOT!!!! read more

The woman/man/they/them was extremely rude the faces she made as I was just asking her a question and the attitude was completely unnecessary I get that she was trying to help but my god did I not want to ask her another question but shes a staff who else do I ask another customer? and she didn't even ask me if I needed any help with anything she was just laughing it up to her other co worker after I was done talking to her. read more

i usually have my dog groomed here and unfortunately my usual grooming was not doing the cut. I was not told this and would of just change dates. I picked up my dog and was told she has a nick on her chest. Upon looking at this it was pretty big laceration which i had to go to the vet for. i will never come back to this location. i never had issues in the past now today it was her fault? i get it accidents happen but my dog is very very calm . anyways beware ! read more

I wish I could rate this groomer under the ground. I took my 7 month old Goldendoodle to get his haircut. When I dropped him off he looked like a beautiful Golden Puffball. We were scheduled with Vanessa L. She was not there when we arrived for our 8am appointment. I informed the other groomer to let her know that if Tommy is to much for her not to shave him just trim across his eyes so that he can see. I received a phone call stating that I do not have to pay. Immediately I asked what is wrong. The person on the other end stated nothing we were not able to give Tommy the full cut. They stated that his groomer had a family emergency and had to leave. I was ok hearing that. When I get there my baby is bald with damn patches. He is so sad and miserable. After doing all this mess to him she didn't trim the hair over his eyes and his nails were not even cut. Luckily my other dog was just getting bathed. Which neither one them smelled as if they were bathed. NEVER AGAIN. I can't stop crying I feel so bad that I trusted my baby in her hands. read more

I really wouldn't recommend buying fish here. When we buy fish here they would die within a week or so. We were always told to add this or that to the water we would bring our water in for testing there was nothing wrong with our water. We started buying our fish at Petco In Pembroke and I believe Petsmart and Hanover and don't have any issues. If you want supplies sure nothing wrong with that but as you see in the picture anytime you go in here there's fish float and belly up. I understand it happens but someone should actually take them away because that's just not good. read more

I went to take my puppy to get groomed; the cut was just okay, and did not look professional. I probably could've cut him better myself. A few days later, my dog smelled so bad as if he didn't have a bath. I don't believe they washed my dog. When I went to pick up my dog, the place looked gross, pet hair everywhere, and did not look that sanitary. Definitely will NOT be going back! read more

I went into this store today after avoiding for a long time due to how bad it SMELLS. I was hoping maybe they cleaned since the last time I was there, however... the smell was horrid!! Smelled like wet animal shavings and old pee. It is still very bad. I had to cover my nose and mouth to prevent gagging. I have experienced this here before...it smells like lack of cleaning of cages, dog pee on the floor and old fish tanks. The stench was bad...really bad. Doesn't anyone from Corporate ever visit the stores?? I will go to Walmart for my cat food from now instead. Easy fix, people... Easy fix. What a shame. read more

I probably have the friendliest 6m old kitten to ever exist. He has been used to his carrier since I adopted him at 8 weeks. I've never even heard him hiss. I brought him in to get his nails trimmed at the grooming salon and the two women working ripped him out of his carrier by the (very little) scruff he has on his neck. He puffed his fur up to show he was uncomfortable (which he didn't even do when he received shots at this same location's Vetco service) and they cut all of his nails with very little care in under a minute. I watched one of the women brush a Persian cat so roughly it seemed like his eyes were bulging out of his head. I would be extremely uncomfortable if my cat was being brushed like that at the groomers without me knowing. Over priced, rushed, and not gentle. We won't be returning read more

I've taken my two dogs for nail trims a few times and finally took my scruffy pup for a bath and cut. Shannon took wonderful care of her and she looks and feels so much better! Easy to schedule, employees were welcoming and clearly cared about my animals. read more

I've had pleasant experiences and bad experiences with PetCo in Avon mass. but recently it seems the employees are more interested in giving attitude and wrong information than helping customers. Tom (identified himself as the manager) is simply the worst. He is rude and shouldn't be running any type of store. I predict if he his left in charge of that location its days will be short lived. For me to actually go to that store I drive by several other pet stores. Since Tom is doing so well there Petco wont mind at least one customer finding somewhere else to go. Not happy with their service. I took my dog here twice for nail trimming and they did an horrible job. My dog's nails were still long (both times) and they hurt him(he was bleeding). I also had them trim his hair around his eyes and I don't know what they did but on the way home my poor dog was throwing up. I will never return for services!!! read more

Good looks on the larger beds for bigger cats. At first we thought our cat wasn't going to fit. But he fits right in and I'm not sure if the bottom part has extra cushion didn't seem like it because other beds did. However he seems happy with it and and he also loves the treats! read more

Just like a neighbor - playing bridge one day, eating your fin the next. We bailed on the neon mollies and sole surviving black eyed moor to find Bunnicula, Liz's latest addition to the beta line. The one star really comes from the checkout experience: two employees playing with some pretty damn cute and fuzzy rodents. Me: Are those Russian dwarf hamsters? Em: Nah. It's a teddy bear. (They were dwarves. -Ed.) Me: Oh, ok. *Other employee drops her hammy. Liz and I exchange a look* Emp: What happened? Did he bite ya? ... Had two negative experiences with their grooming department. The first time we brought our dog here they didn't trim his tail even though we had asked and he had a huge tick on his back that no one even mentioned. We hoped it was a one-off situation and gave them a second try and they must have forgot to wash our dog after grooming him because hair was EVERYWHERE. I was absolutely covered just carrying him to the car and I had to bathe him myself when I got home. SO MUCH HAIR. There is no way they washed him after his cut. I gave up on them and found another groomer. Their prices are high and they seem to busy to provide proper service. read more

Wow. Extremely disappointed with the Avon Petco today. I came in today to purchase a few cans of regular Pedigree dog food. First off, the location. Not very appealing location, off Stockwell Drive in Avon. In a small plaza with Staples and DressBarn. Parking wasn't a problem today, but I could see a problem stirring up as the Holidays are approaching.... and exiting is terrible (dangerous exit with never-ending traffic on Stockwell). Anywho, the store had a terrible smell (most pet stores do, but the smell here was MUCH stronger), and seemed extremely old. Definitely one of the Petco's in need of reconstruction (Atlantic Retail Properties should just tear down this plaza and rebuild with a new plaza with a new, clean Petco). AND- as I stated I came for Pedigree dog food. Which they had ONE can of in the back corner of the store, that was beat up and bent. Did I ask for too much? NEVER have I come across a pet store that hasn't had Pedigree. Ever. Even the WORST Petco in Norwood (never ever go there!). Anyway, I ended up just leaving. Will only return never. Not suggested. Petsmart in Brockton may be a better option (and I will definitely be going there next time!) read more

I came to this Petco for the first time today to scope out their fish section after I had gone to Ikea nextdoor. The parking lot is very small and it doesn't look like your typical Petco from the outside, it looks small. Inside I had a blast of pet stench as I opened the doors. Unlike other Petco's I have been in this place just smelled dirty. The fish section is off to the left and kind of hiding behind tall hamster cages. As soon as my eyes landed on the fish area I frowned. I wanted to save all the poor fish. The water conditions were terrible, algae on the aquarium walls, dead fish in multiple tanks, algae clinging to the filters, brackish water. What was going on here? Even the glo-fish looked sad under their neon lights. I moved from tank to tank checking out all the fish and feeling guilty for all of them. There were no employees in sight. I grabbed some fish flakes that I had came in for and made a run for it. The cashier was friendly and asked me to donate to a charity. I declined because I just wanted to GTFO of there, but she kind of forced me into rounding up my change to the nearest dollar for the charity and adding it to my card. She didn't even really ask she just did it and said thanks for the donation. I mean sure it wasn't that big of a deal and it was going to a good cause but if I said no, then you would think that means NO thanks. Either way I got out of there quickly and wont be back. I was sad to see that the other review was poor too and the fish quality was just as bad back then, and that was almost 2 years ago. What's going on at this Petco?! read more

This review is just about my experience with their fish department. I am sorry, they have nice people but their fish should not be brought home. I am constantly seeing lots of dead fish in there, and have not had good luck. I had a wonderfully successful 20 gallon tank breeding guppies, and made the mistake of bringing one home and not quarantining.The fish died in 24 hours, and it took out 90% of my tank so far in 2 weeks. I tried to warn them, and they said the didn't see the disease. After much research they have a really nasty infection of Columnaris that is killing off tons of their fish. It kills fast, and can be bought to bring under control. Without treatment it has a 100% kill rate. I am back to square one at this point, and it looks like I will have to start from scratch, and they are still in denial. Also a 30 day replacement policy isn't great when you just will repeat the plague process in the QT tank. My suggestion, I would personally steer clear unless you have no other option. read more

Overall, I generally don't have much of a problem with this store. It's not my usual pet supply store, but I do stop in when I'm in the area and need food or cat litter. Store seeks a bit smaller than other "big chain pet supply stores", and perhaps that's why on a couple of occasions they've been out of stock of the specific food I feed my fur babies. My biggest complaint lies with the high pressure pitch to donate to not one but two different animal charities at check out. I get it. Lots of neglected animals in need. I'm a charitable person. I donate the modest amount I'm allowed to both people and animal charities out of my budget. I don't need the high pressure pitch at the end of my errand. read more

This review is of the Vetco clinic at Avon. I wish that I could leave the review under only the Vetco process as the Petco store employees seemed very kind. My dog typically goes to veterinary practice. Due to some unusual work hours and a pending vaccine expiration I thought I would try the Vetco clinic as I have had very good experiences at Petco. When asking for my vaccines I noted that my dog should receive one vaccination combination and not another as she is allergic to one of the "add-on" vaccines. After waiting 45 minutes for an appointment the technician approached me to tell me that the vet refused to give any vaccinations to my pet. I understand the hesitance and actually have little issue with the decision as I assume it was made in my dog's best interest (however inconvenient). The information was delivered in such a manner that was rude and curt. The vet refused to address me directly,answer any questions, or explain why the decision was made. Instead the poor technician was left to mediate. I didn't expect to be treated with the same warmth and respect as a veterinarian's office, but this was such a sad lack of compassion. I am a doctor myself (working with people). In my experience a little empathy and kindness would improve this process tremendously. read more

This is mainly about their Vetco clinic: I have 3 dogs that have a well established vet, but in an effort to find affordable vaccinations, I started bringing them here just for that obviously. Not going to discredit them, they have a very organized system, their techs are very super friendly and attentive, their vets.... not so much. They are not exactly warm and fuzzy and I've dealt with two of them. There's never been any eye contact. They are curt and abrasive.... my least favorite - Dr. Fraser. He looks like a retired vet that does this on the side or something. Not to be disrespectful but perhaps the vets hired for this clinic don't particularly want to be there. If you can look past this coldness, then you should be fine. They do what they need to do, take precautions in case of things (like Benadryl shots to prevent allergic reactions etc.) but the vets definitely lack what we call in the human medical world "bedside manner". read more

Dog grooming is hit or miss. The first time I took my dog here, the groomers were incredibly thorough. I was far less pleased after his second visit, though. If you have a good experience with the groomers here, I strongly suggest requesting the same groomer for any additional visits. There are clearly different standards of quality services provided from groomer to groomer. read more

This store is ALWAYS understaffed. You have to go around the whole store to try to find someone to help you out, or go to the register and they say they will page someone to come help you. Even after they are paged it takes way too long for someone to come. Today I went to buy crickets. I went around to see if I could find someone on the floor. There was not one single employee. I went to the register and I was told someone would "be right over" after 10 minutes I went back up to the register, waited in line to ask again for someone to get crickets, and then once again no one came over to help after another 10 minutes. I would like everyone to look up petco dumpster diving. Petco throws away live animals that are either sick or unsellable. That's not the worst part there even trying to justify this torturous act. I will never ever buy anything from another petco again. I have two beautiful boxer puppies at home and too even thinking use to buy from a store that thinks of animals lives so insignificantly. If I could give no stars I would. We sometimes use the clinic (LuvMyPet) they hold there to save some money (we have three dogs and a cat). Well waiting in line for the clinic all I could smell was urine, Yes I know it's a pet store dogs pee in there sometimes but when I looked around to see where the smell was coming from there was dried up urine everywhere! Then it got even worse, I just happened to look at a shelve that had a bag of cat food pushed back (about a foot) and see MICE POOP everywhere along with little piece of ripped up paper! GROSS! So they have mice eating at their food they are selling you?!? It was everywhere, I am guessing they have noticed this when stocking their shelves and just don't care.
