I rated the grooming as 3 stars since the groomer did everything I asked for. The grooming came out nice and my dog looks great, but I thought it was expensive and others agreed ($120 for a full grooming/ trim 75 lb dog). However, the groomer nicked my male dog in his private area and he has been incredibly irritated. For customer experience I give a 2 star review. I definitely would not recommend this groomer to anyone who has a dog that has anxiety about going to the groomers (not that most dogs love getting groomed anyway). I have a sweet, gentle dog who gets very nervous getting bathed/ groomed,  etc. and the groomer spoke rudely about my dog for being nervous when I picked him up. I didn't appreciate how unprofessional she was by repeatedly making negative comments on his matted fur. That was one of the main reasons he was there, for her to fix it. . I explained over the phone when I booked that he is a baby when it comes to grooming I also explained that he was overdue for a grooming as I had a long term hospitalization of nearly 3 months and wasn't able to get him to the groomer. I reiterated when I dropped him off that he was matted and needed to be cleaned up. So the staff was fully aware. Overall, the grooming came out nice but if you have a nervous dog, especially when getting groomed, I would look somewhere else so you don't have to worry when drop your pup off. read more

Went there because I use to go to pet smart in Braintree and the staff @ pet smart couldn't be more rude and totally unprofessional.. called the Soapy dog and found them pleasant and friendly , they have a genuine love for animals and it shows .. This is by far one of the most disappointing grooming experiences we've had with our dog. She's a small miniature shitzu with relatively short hair. Before handing over my dog I had shown photos and examples of what we would like for her haircut to look like. I had explained keeping her somewhat long but obviously removing whatever knots she may have. I had also expressed wanting her fact to be cut very rounded. I had shown pictures and examples of what I would like. When I had gone to pick her up almost 2 hours later she looked nothing like I asked. She looked like a completely different dog and not in a good way. In shock I had paid and brought her home for further inspection. Not only did they not do as I had asked, they had completely cut her down too much. If I could give this experience 0 stars I would. I have attached photos of what we asked for and what she looked like prior and after her hair cut. I will not be returning here even as a last resort. read more

If I could give 10 stars to this business, I would. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I use the place to wash my German shepherd mix. They have self washing stations that are set up very nicely. They offer their help and recommendations when needed. They are more than reasonably priced. Can't say anything bad. Stay away! We moved to the South Shore after 4 years with the same groomer in Boston. We know our dog is anxious and discussed this behavior with Soapy Dog. With the previous groomer we NEVER had any issues beyond our dog being nervous: no reports of aggression, snarling or growling. Soapy Dog called today and reported that our dog needed to be muzzled, was snarling at staff and snapped at them. At her previous groomer our dog was handled with ease by numerous different groomers and had no issues when they changed owners and brought on new staff. We of course can't prove how our dog behaved, but this review reflects the way this issue was handled. The groomer was incredibly rude when reporting this behavior, refused to address us in person. Soapy Dog then demanded to be paid nearly double the agreed upon amount because our dog "was just so difficult." We learned (too late!) from previous reviews that Soapy Dog has done this exact scam before - claiming aggressive behavior when there is no previous history of this and demanding additional payment. Other reviews reference price gouging new clients - this is outrageous and against all respectable business practices. Avoid! read more

I never use a groomer and like to wash my dogs at home but I saw that Soapy Dog offers a do it yourself service and it was so easy and my dogs loved it! They got clean and the groomer even clipped thier nails and checked their ears! The cost was very resaonable for the services provided and even my vet commented on how soft one of my dogs was after I washed him at Soapy Dog! We brought our medium-size pup in for a do-it-yourself bath. There are 2 self-serve baths. We were nicely greeted upon arrival, although there was hair all over...they must have been busy grooming and no time to pick up? The owner was very nice and cleaned up one bath for us and gave us two squirt bottles of an oatmeal shampoo. She had a number to choose from. We had to request conditioner...because it's an extra few bucks..no big deal. She even gave us aprons so we could keep dry (our dog shakes). We also had one of the groomers cut our pup's nails...she was very nice, very knowledgeable, and gave us some tips for how to keep her nails short at home. Easy & fast visit for a bath & nail clipping. It was much better than our PetSmart experiences...we were able to be there with our pup who is skittish and hates baths, and even nail clippings. Before I start, I want to preference this by saying we bought our 75lb Yellow lab there to wash her ourselves., The experience was terrific. The girl with purple hair couldn't have been any nicer. She was so lovely I decided to make an appointment to have our 5lb female Biewer Yorkie groomed there. Even though she already has a fantastic groomer two towns away. I decided to give Soapy Dog a try. I bought her in today, 3/24, at 9 am for a standard groom with an add-on of $15 to have her teeth brushed. I called the salon at 11:18 am, to be exact, to see if my dog was ready. The woman who answered the phone replied yes, she is. I then asked how much it would be, as I knew it was a cash-only establishment. She replied $90. I said that she had just got standard grooming and had an add-on of $15 to brush her teeth. She then replied she was difficult, so we added another $10 to the price. I was so upset and told the young lady I was unhappy with this. I have never paid $95 to groom my 5lb Biewer Yorkie. I got to the salon at 11:40, and the young lady wearing glasses with purple hair said common sense should let you know it costs more money. If you have long hair, it is more. She said she tried to bite me. I said she had been to a groomer since she was a puppy. They rave about how she is an excellent little dog and so well-behaved. I want the consumer to know that this place charges what they wish. Prices are not listed at all. The only thing they show you is laminated paper with service add-ons. Worse place I have ever been with the worse customer service. Extremely unprofessional with zero transparency. I give this place a zero rating. Proceed here at your own risk!!!! This was a very bad experience, both for me and my dog. I brought in my 5 month old puppy for a puppy groom. The office and grooming areas were dirty and smelled awful. The groomer was incredibly rude. Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. On top of all that, my dog was terrified and looked awful. My mother brought our boxer there once and he ended up with a fungus all over his skin and lost most of his hair I decided to give them a try thinking that it couldn't of been the soapy dog that our dog must've just had a skin disorder well I took my two dogs there last week and my St. Bernard American bulldog is now covered in a fungus bacteria and has lost a lot of hair on him and has these awful soars. My heart is aching for my dog right now and I need to find a vet to take him to because he is in pain and I believe it is from the soapy dog. do not take your dog there I am beyond furious and I will be making a huge issue about that there is no way that two dogs at different times would end up with the same skin issue . My dog has never had a skin disorder and all of a sudden after taking him to the soapy dog he has exactly what my other dog got right after we took him to the soapy dog a few years ago I would never recommend this place I cannot believe This. Never again, will I go here. My dog looks fine with his groom, however it is definitely not a $180 job. Yes he's big & squirmy. He does not bite nor was he matted. $180 for a groom is absolutely insane. On top of this crazy charge for what I do not know, the grooming salon itself is a health hazard with accidents waiting to happen. The front grooming tables are RUSTY. When I got there to pick my dog up he was chained to the wall, out in the open with other dogs walking around free. This is also a hazard for him and the other dogs. What happened to putting dogs in kennels after a groom (for safety purposes)? Any dog could go after him same for him he could go after one walking by. $180 for a cut and bath, are you kidding me?? No teeth brushing, no attention to his nails etc etc. What am I paying for here? Not only do I feel extremely taken advantage of, I feel a bit unsettled knowing that this type of environment exists for dogs at this establishment. If you couldn't tell by now, I do not recommend. We moved to the South Shore this past Spring - and have been looking for a new dog groomer. We have 2 adorable shitzu / bichon mixes. Howie & Midge. Our babies! They were so overgrown and totally in need of a grooming, nail trimming, and bath. Naturally, I wait until the last minute to schedule things. I was pleasantly surprised that The Soapy Dog had 2 appointments on a Saturday. They had had a couple cancellations so they were happy to take Howie & Midge. They were there most of the day - which didn't surprise me because they were really shaggy! When I picked them up they looked ADORABLE. They were cut perfectly. She left just the right amount of hair on their heads. They were so clean and trimmed. Overall, I was very happy with the dos' prices were totally reasonable. Also, the service was great. They have always given us the shampoo if we are washing her ourselves and they kindly still trim her nails for us! This place had nothing for fleas. I had my dog's nails trimmed and the man hurt her twice and did not file them. They had chips and my dog hobbled. I will never come back there. The prices are just as much as at Pet Supermarket and they do it for you with professionalism. I do not recommend this place for a bath. read more

George and I love The Soapy Dog. It's great to bring George in for a bath after we've been at Stodder's Neck Park running in the mud or swimming in the stinky ocean (or, as is often the case, swimming in the ocean and then rolling in the dirt so everything sticks nicely). The Soapy Dog provides a tub that's at just the right height for me to bathe him. George is leashed in the tub so he doesn't move, but it's still comfortable for him. They give me an apron to wear. They provide the soap, and they'll do George's nails and ears. After George is bathed and rinsed, I can force blow him dry to get rid of the majority of the water and then move him to a grooming table to brush him while he gets blown dry with warm air. On two occasions now The Soapy Dog has let me wash George when I've arrived just after they close. The owner watched George for me while I ran to the ATM, too. Totally above and beyond. The prices are good, especially when I consider what a pain it is to wash and dry a dog at home. Yay for The Soapy Dog! We'll be back! read more

I've taken "Tooney" (Petunia Mae) to the Soapy Dog 3 or 4 times and have always been extremely pleased with the job they do. Whether they are simply bathing her, clipping her nails and cleaning her ears, or going for the full "spa" treatment, I'm always very satisfied. But even more than the shampooing and grooming that Tooney gets, she is always treated well. The technicians there are kind and gentle and know how precious our animals are to each and every one of us, and they treat them as they would their own. That's most important to me.
