We have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Puppy and I said I'd never pay for someone to bathe and give my dog a haircut when I can do it myself! I only have her nails clipped & buffed. But now Ginger is getting bigger and not so easy to wash in the kitchen sink and my hair cutting was looking pretty choppy! So I decided for her 1st Birthday I would treat not only her but myself and give her a spa day at Petco. When I returned to pick her up she looked like a different dog! She was absolutely gorgeous! Tara did everything I asked for and then some! With the brushing, nice short haircut and deshedding shampoo, I'm not having hardly any hair on my clothes and definitely less vacuuming! Wow, what an unforgettable customer service experience. My friends and I were simply looking at the birds when an employee approached us with the warmest, most welcoming attitude imaginable... just kidding. He very sarcastically asked, "Do you girls need help or something?" as if our crime was peacefully existing near the bird section. But wait, it gets better. As we were leaving, another employee told us to "have a nice day." We thought, "Finally, someone nice!" So we said she was nice, only to be rewarded with one of the dirtiest looks we've ever received. Apparently complimenting an employee is frowned upon now. Overall, if you're looking for a place where you can feel like an inconvenience for browsing and leave questioning what just happened, this Petco might be the perfect destination. Went into the Petco at Chaska. The day before had previously spent over $400 on various aquarium items, however noticed that we were double charged for a heater and went back in to correct the issue. The moment we walked in, we were off to a bad start. Mary was the cashier, the same girl who checked us out the day before. She was unfriendly off the bat, no smile, no greeting, nothing. Must have been having a bad day? We explained the reason that we were there and it went downhill further. She brought over a manager, Steve. Who then started to "explain" the receipt to us, as if we were stupid. The receipt clearly stated 2@ $64.99, totaling $102.66. But he tried to say "just ignore the 2, I know it's a complicated receipt and you can sit here and analyze it all day but it's still the same price." I'm not a stupid person so politely pointed out that it did not make sense. Was so rudely brushed off and he walked away. Continued to work with Mary, who continued to be extremely rude and not helpful. Girl, if you hate your job that much, just quit, like jeez. Should be fired really. Then asked to speak with a manager due to her attitude. Steve came back up. I pointed out that we're not trying to be difficult and that it's an easy solution and that they don't need to be so rude. The worst employees I've come across. We've been very good customers, even signed up for vital care premier, and will be discontinuing that immediately. Will never shop there again. Petco should be appalled to employee both Mary & Steve. read more

not just this petco, but chain pet stores in general. the examples i provide are specific to this petco. every time i come here, i see SOMETHING wrong. they carry problematic supplies marketed for an animal that cannot benefit from that item. for example: i saw an alfalfa hay hide with honey flavoring marketed towards rats. rats cannot digest alfalfa and usually will not eat it. since it is flavored with honey, the rats will eat it and could possibly get their digestive tract clogged from the hay. the animals are in poor conditions. the chameleons are almost always on the bottom of the cage (not normal chameleon behavior) and the leopard geckos are usually underneath their carpet (not normal - also, reptile carpet can wear down lizard toes and should never be used). the beta fish are in tiny little bowls and are usually on the brink of death. last example: a few weeks ago, i was walking out of petco with my crickets i had bought and i see a little white mouse run along the side of the building. i identified her as a female and i had guessed she had escaped from the clutches of an irresponsible buyer. i can just imagine a child walking out with his new pet and his parents saying "don't take the mouse out!" but the kid doing it anyway and losing it, not knowing how to tell his parents. the employees often know close to nothing about the animals they keep IN THEIR STORE. i have a lot of problems with chain pet stores, but especially the chaska petco. i kept the mouse by the way - her name is daisy. i got her a friend, rosemary. don't shop chain - i know it's convenient but it's just not a good thing to invest in. my personal favorite shop is "twin cities reptiles" in st. paul, not saying they are perfect but the employees tend to be knowledgeable and they keep their animals in good conditions. blessed be! read more

my sister and her boyfriend wanted to buy a fish, theyre both 17 and the lady Karilynn said they needed someone who was 18. so they asked to hold on the fish until an adult comes back. they then asked me her 19 year old brother to go with which I did, we got all of the stuff we needed and noticed they put the fish back on the shelf and didn't hold any of it. one of the male staff (I believe the manager) even helped me pick out a lid for the tank and was very nice. then when we walked up to the register Karilynn said "they're back again" into the walkie talkie and told us now that we need a PARENT for a FISH even after I showed her my ID of me being 19. We then had asked if we can facetime our mom to approve of it and Karilynn said "nope we need them in person" she wasnt nice at all and for all I know she put the fish and the items back on the sales floor. Horrible experience! I waited 6 weeks to get my dog in for grooming. After the last visit when she was so anxious they couldn't get her nails trimmed they recommended I go to the vet to get some calming medication so I did, and used it tonight. Then when I went to drop her off they said they won't take her because she's on medication - the exact thing they told me to do. Stephanie was so rude and told me if I waned to speak to a manager I could wait for him to come back from lunch. I will never go back here!! read more

I brought in two dogs for grooming, one Labrador & one Viszla mix. I needed them groomed and paid extra for shedding control & to get their nails trimmed. The lab was shedding was still bad once I got her into the car. The Viszla's nails were not trimmed. It looked as though they attempted to cut her hind paws, but her from paws were completely missed. In addition to paying what I thought was quite a lot for this service, they asked if I would leave a tip for each of the technicians. I did, before I got a good look at the job done. In addition to this, they went ahead and scheduled both dogs for another grooming in 1 month without my permission. (I take the dogs in when I want, not because they schedule them!) Needless to say, I am furious at the cost of services and the lack of completion of the job. Typically, when the dogs are shampooed they smell really good. I wonder if these pups even had a bath? They didn't smell of shampoo. I am in the process of contacting corporate with photos, since it is impossible to reach these people via telephone. read more

The worst imaginable place to take your dog. They never have anything in stock. They never have enough cashiers or groomers. You will be waiting for over an hour. They also entered my dog's rabies shot inaccurately and said it wasn't current. I had paperwork showing that she had a three-year shot and we still had two years left. Mistakes, really bad customer service, no inventory and the place is a mess. And they don't care. read more

Went for betta fish. Left with everything needed and had a lot of selections. There were a lot of cool Bettas there which made the decision hard. Price for the Betta ranges all the way from $3-15.. Many tank selections with lots of tank decor which includes a large selection of rock/pebbles/sand/stones, plants, and other decorations. Selection is the same as any other Petco, the staff here has always been friendly and helpful, to both me and my dog. Their food and other supplies are about the same price as anywhere else but their toy selection is much more varied and larger than most other pet stores, cheaper too, but not by a lot. Unfortunately they stopped carrying the Dogswell canned food which was the main reason I came here so I doubt I'll be back often. My search for the pet store that carries everything I need goes on. read more

I can appreciate employees that care about the homes the animals they sell go to, but there can be reasonable lines, like when it comes to fish. We've had various fish for many years as well as other animals, including the varieties of fish we wanted to buy. But the staff wasn't "comfortable" selling them to us base on how "happy" they thought the fish would be. Mind you the fish we wanted were right next to the feeder goldfish that are sold as pet food, not far from the mealworms and other live creatures also sold as food and many of the tanks looked to be in poor condition with dead or sick fish in them. Thankfully there was a nearby Petsmart that was happy to sell us the fish we wanted without a million questions or expressing their personal views and fish that were in clean tanks that looked like they were well cared for. So from now on that is where we'll also be buying the cat food for our 3 cats, dog food for our 3 dogs, rabbit food, lizard and fish food. read more

Petco grooming just called me hours before my dog's appointment and canceled the grooming appointment because he's too old. I've been going there for the past four years and this is the first time I've heard of this. Not to mention he's been over age 12 since weh've been going here and they never had a problem before. Rude staff who give out incorrect information and poor care for the animals. Saltwater fish are kept in such small tanks and there are more fish on death row than in the lit, attractive section of the aquariums. 10-20 mice in a 10 gallon tank when you aren't supposed to have more than 3 in 10 gallons. Leopard Geckos are sick and skinny as well as discolored. And can we get a second to talk about the sick Betta fish in little tubs stacked on top of eachother? I hate to see animals suffer this way. I use to love this Petco until staffing changed. I also got older and as i did years of research, i realized just how wrong these animals are being held. I know these aren't permanent homes but they could really try harder. read more
