My dog has always been nicely groomed, so I am happy with the end result. Still, I would only go back to grooming in a pinch. Scheduling has been horrific over the span of several months, and customer service has been sub par. I have always scheduled on a consistent day/time on a specific week interval... -At least 3x they have automatically scheduled another appointment for my dog after the service without me knowing it and then called/emailed reminders and/or called when I did not show (for the appt. I never scheduled). -Once I went in for a scheduled appt. and the manager only said "we don't have any appointments on the schedule." Very monotone and matter of fact. Thats it. No offer to look up my account/appointments. No offer of a resolution/reschedule. I had to initiate every question/solution. -Could not find my account with any info I provided, despite having a long history of taking my dog here. Said she could only find my account if I gave her my last appointment date. -I scheduled 2 consecutive appointments via phone, and only one was put on the schedule. -I called about a month in advance to remove an auto-scheduled appt. (after I saw it on my invoice) and confirm the date/time of my regular appt. I had the girl repeat back to me the date/time of my confirmed appt. All was good. When the time came, I got a call for the auto-scheduled appt. (that was supposed to have been removed). I then called in advance to confirm my actual appt. and was told the groomer was not available at my scheduled time and my appt. was earlier. -No sense of "good" customer service in the grooming department. A monotone "grooming" is the greeting when I call, no energy, enthusiasm, display of kindness (or apology). read more

So, I've been here twice now since their grand opening weekend. I will say that it's obvious that the staff isn't as knowledgeable about the products they sell, but I'm going to chalk that up to this being a new store (right?). I might be alone on this, but I was pretty annoyed that they didn't have any bowls at the drinking fountain for the dogs. So far, I'm grateful for the location, but not blown away otherwise. read more

This is a cute store, and they seem to have a lot of great stuff packed into a smaller footprint than their competitor on Canal. I usually go down the street to get my dog groomed, but they were booked solid until Monday, so I figured I'd try Petco out for grooming. I have a cockapoo, so he's got a lot of hair and it gets a little matted at the joints, so he gets a haircut pretty regularly. This time, he was due for a summer chop, so I asked to get a mohawk. It's not the easiest of hairstyles, but I brought a picture of his previous ones to show what I wanted. Lauren, his groomer did a great job, but not an excellent one. She made sure he was clean and she definitely gave him a mohawk, but it just wasn't as neat as I would have liked and when I went to pick him up she hadn't shaved his ears, which I had requested and was also shown in the picture. She had to go back to do that. After we got home, I also noticed that near his chin she had missed 2 matted pieces, so I just got the scissors and cut them out. But if I just paid for a groomer, I shouldn't have to do that. I did ask her to get his nails really well and she did a great job with that. Overall I'd be comfortable coming back, just as long as I check him over better before we leave. Oh, the other thing about their grooming menu is that there are quite a few options, but they're not all listed on the printed menu, so the sales rep has to go through them all and explain the differences. Sort of confusing and a hassle, but worth it in the end. I brought my friend's son along because he had never been to a pet store before and he was in kid heaven seeing all the ferrets and lizards and guinea pigs and such. Because we picked my dog up from grooming fairly close to closing time one of the employees was going around feeding and caring for all the animals at the end of the night. She let him spray a couple of the frogs with water and watch while she fed the ferrets and cleaned their cage. He had a blast, just watching her for 30 minutes or so. read more

Every time I come here to get dog food, every staff member is helpful, friendly, and kind. Honestly, I'm always surprised because they are a big chain, but the staff - every single one of them - is always wonderful and make it a pleasant experience. They are sweet to my dog as well - even if it's minutes before closing (which is when I usually get there) - they are so nice. So thank you south loop petco - it may seem like a small thing, but your consistent positive customer service is greatly appreciated. read more

Took my dog to this location for the first time to get his nails trimmed. At first they we have a problem locate my pals membership with my number once we had it Nicole did a great job changing my old information to my new information took care of me and of Cassius my puppy who was a little afraid of getting his nails done. I've had some less than desirable experiences here in the past: it seems like they are always understaffed and there aren't people at the check out line waiting to assist, you have to hunt down an employee to give them your money. It was never anything to complain on Yelp about. This past visit was a real pleasant surprise. I arrived with many questions about the best food for my one-year old shepherd/mastiff. I first approached a young associate who wasn't quite sure how to help me, but she immediately went to find a supervisor who could. That supervisor was extremely thorough in her explanations about which food is best and why, and was very excited to spend a little time with my dog. At the check out line, a manager used a coupon to get me ANOTHER bag of food for free, and the associate went and got a little bag of treats for my dog. They were all so pleasant and helpful, and truly kind. read more

went here for a first time groom for my doggie. I was a bit thrown when there were no books to look through to point out what kinda of cut you would for your pooch. Being a first time pup parent and being the first time he has been groomed I thought I would tell how I wanted him and then they would follow it up with a picture just to make sure. But.....that didn't happen. I was told that I could Google some cuts and the show them what I wanted. It just seems to me that this isn't the way this should go. Must admit I was annoyed by that but however I did Google some cuts and found what I thought would look nice. I showed it to Ana and she groomed my baby well. Came here for Dog Grooming-what a waste of money!! I thought I would try them since I live in the area. I would give them no stars if I could. I dropped my dog off at 8am and was called at 2pm to pick him up. Boy, I wish I had thoroughly inspected him before we left! Instead, I trusted that they were a reputable establishment, seeing as they are a huge chain that is Supposed to specialize in most things animal related. I was so wrong...When I got home, I noticed that all they appeared to do was spritz perfume on him. So angry! What I Paid for was a wash, brush out, spritz, nails cut down, and his teeth brushed. I wound up having to cut his nails myself (watching YouTube videos every step of the way), they Did Not brush him out, and his teeth looked the same. What were they doing with him for 6 hours then?!?! Total waste of money and time. I don't appreciate being lied to either when you KNOW you haven't done your job. Even though they are further, do yourself a favor and go to the "Clip Joint", located out South on Pulaski. This "business" will never see me again and I'm pretty sure they won't even attempt to reach out to me. Do yourself a favor and learn from my mistake. read more

Came here to sign up my puppy for training classes. An associate just brushed me off when I asked who I can talk to about classes and said the cashier station would be around the corner. Why the cashier? Nobody was at the station but I eventually found the trainer. she didn't seem to want to help me very much. The next available class was 3weeks away but I signed up for it anyway because they said through the phone there is a sale for $99 on classes. When I got rung up, they charged me the original price of $120. It's just $20 but it's still $20!. I didn't like the experience at the store so I called to see if I can get a refund for the training classes. When I spoke to a lady who might have been a manager, I told her I wanted a refund because it was a little expensive and the start date was little far away. She tried to have me start classes 2weeks early but I told her I just really wanted a refund. Her voice completely changed to being irritated and she just replied "okay we'll give you a refund" and just hung up the phone!!! Sure I'm taking money away from them but you still don't respond that way. read more

Lisette is a good groomer. I followed her from Petsmart. The only warning is she isn't on time sometimes. So you don't have to arrive early. The store validates your parking. They will put a sticker on the ticket to scan when you leave the lot. I like Petco because they sell a lot more healthier snack. read more

I started coming here when it opened because it's closer to me than the Petco I used to shop at. Sadly, this location leaves much to be desired. The place is always dead, and by dead, I mean you literaly cant find an employee to check you out. I've had this happen on several occaisions now, so it wasn't just an off day here and there. They have a register in the front, and a register in the back, and I've literally walked back and forth between the two on several occaisions just looking for anyone to check me out, and seen other customers waiting at an empty register just hoping some employee might walk by. I should not have to corral someone to take my money. At first I just thought it was because the place is a new location, but now I know it's just the norm for how things operate there. read more

We thought it a bonus to find a good pet supply store after visiting the Maxwell Street market across the street. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff, they could not have been nicer. They asked us where we were parked, and totally by coincidence we were parked in a lot right behind their building that was their lot. They gave us a free parking sticker at check out, and the man asked us if we had been parked there less than an hour. When we said no, he said well it will at least pay for part of your parking then. Great. As we walked to our car, another staff member, Doug, came running out after us and said, I heard you were parked here for over an hour, here is a 12 hour sticker for you to use. Apparently some grooming takes longer than an hour, and they also can give you longer parking. An exceptional experience. read more
