    My Bedlington with grooming injury.

    I have used Petco for grooming services for some time, but first time in this Chicago location. First for my Bedlington Terrier "Mr. Pibb", and now for a new Bedlington Terrier, "Ferris Bueller". Both have been trained as Service Dogs. They check my blood-sugar level by smell - I am diabetic. Ferris was booked into this location at 613 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago on July 9, 2025. There was some delay in staff arriving at this location at the booked time of 8:00am, but someone finally arrived and took my dog. He was returned to me at about 11:30am. He looked fine. Subsequently, he has developed a large patch of black hair on what is a light gray to white dog. This was due to some kind of injury being done to him during the grooming session at your facility that damaged the hair in these locations. Perhaps a burn. The abrupt change in color is a known result of skin injury, often during grooming by a careless or inexperienced groomer. This is well-documented including by the AKC. I've also attached a photo showing the injury area. I've owned a Bedlington Terrier for over 16 years and this is the first experience of groomer injury to my dogs. I'm hopeful that there isn't any longterm damage to Ferris Bueller from this grooming. Reports directly to Petco are ignored.

    I took my dog in for grooming and was throughly disappointed Cassie was my dogs groomer and needless to say she was having an extremely off day. She didn't do anything to my dogs head.. no face trimming she says because he was moving not ears taken care of nothing on his head she literally took clippers and went short on his body once there were long hairs sticking out all over his body. Also my dog doesn't have front teeth just wanted to put that out there. I watched a 20 second tik tok video when I got home and cut his face hair with details shears that I have around the house... I don't know if she is unskilled or just lazy when it came to my dog but I'll never book with her again. Now the team leader is amazing she did an amazing job with my dog and that's the only reason I'll take him back.

    I had a worst than pleasant encounter with Tawanna!!! I booked an Appointment for my pup Saturday the 25th at 3:30 for bath and brush. I received 2 confirmation calls the day before, one call I missed.. the second I answered and confirmed that I would be at the appointment the following day. Saturday I received yet another a missed call from Petco at 11:36, 3:05, 3:05 and a last call at 3:06. Mind you I confirmed the DAY before and my appointment wasn't until 3:30. At 3:06 my appointment was cancelled. What business cancels an appointment before it even starts?!? I made it the Petco at 3:15 and asked why my appointment was cancelled. One of the other groomers insisted that I talk to Tawanna about it. I instead went to "management " who did absolutely nothing. I then spoke to Tawanna about why she canceled my appointment. With the WORST ATTITUDE ever she gave me 3 reasons why I was cancelled: 1. "People have to pick up there kids so we don't have time to deal with this" 2. "We didn't know if you were a real person, because you cancelled an appointment in the past"( this makes no sense given that I talked to her the day before to confirm.. furthermore who makes a fake dog appointment) 3. My appointment was cancelled on accident. My theory is that I was probably her last appt, she wanted to leave early so after she blew up my phone calling and I didn't answer she cancelled so that she could "pick up her kids" How she handled the situation was unprofessional and disrespectful to say the least. Tawanna CHOSE that work schedule, if you had obligations with your "kids" , request off.. but canceling someone's appointment for your convenience isn't right! I didn't not feel comfortable leaving my dog with her given her nasty ways. I took my dog and left. She then took it further by blocking me from booking on the app!! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET WITH HER!! She has no regard for herself, job or pets!!

    I absolutely love petco, they never seem to disappoint at literally any location I go to. The staff are very helpful making sure my pup and I are am taken care of!

    Their dog grooming is excellent and very nice mgmt! Clean and brand new location. Parking is easy but u gotta pay!

I said yes and confidently left, expecting consistency with the previous groom. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all. They cut my dog's hair extremely low and completely ignored the previous grooming guidelines. When I expressed my concerns, the groomer responded by saying When I expressed my concerns, the groomer responded by saying she had "shaved his nails for free," which she said is normally a $10 add-on. I explained that it still didn't address the issue at hand and that it should have either been communicated or charged properly as an add-on if that was the case, because it didn't resolve my concern about the haircut. I was told there was "nothing they could do" and that "for future reference" I should bring a photo. I didn't think a photo was necessary for a repeat appointment when the staff made it seem like they already understood what was expected based on his last service. The manager called the next day, listened to everything that happened, and ultimately only reiterated that they do not offer refunds or discounts. No apology, no empathy, and no accountability for the poor experience. The only response I kept hearing was "for future reference." To make matters worse, my dog's ears were cut so short that he barely even looks like he has ears anymore. The haircut looks nothing like the previous groom, and it's honestly upsetting to look at. Since the appointment, he hasn't even seemed like his usual energetic self. I trusted this salon to care for him properly, and instead I left feeling dismissed and deeply disappointed. A total waste of $80 and a tip. PHOTOS BELOW: As you can see in the attached photos, his beautiful black coat was shaved down entirely too close, leaving his face and ears completely bare.

I know we won't be able to find someone like him anywhere else and that makes me and my husband really sad. A. My dog loved going to John, he never felt stressed after John's haircut. B. Have you seen how clean his shop is? My jaw dropped when I first went there. C. His cuts are so amazing, Toby was getting complements constantly. D. Shampoo that he uses is amazing, smells so good. E. My dog is anxious, but John never had a problem working with him somehow , he usually never sits still for anyone. F. He is a professional groomer and I don't think you will find someone like him at least in Chicago area. I can go on and on. I don't think he needs my review but I just wanted to share for someone lucky who lives in the area and is able to get appointment at Clean Dog.

One of the true pleasures of living in a big city it to discover treasures in the most unexpected of places. Who would think that dog grooming would be one such place but I consider CleanDog to be a treasure in Chicago. John brings a rare combination of pride or work and some kind of genius for dog grooming that is ineffable; he just has a feel and an incredible talent for working with dogs. What brought me in the door for our Maltipoo Bailey is that I was looking for someone who would not immediately resort to shears to deal with some matting (admittedly, we had let Bailey go and she was very matted). I know that taking her to our prior groomer would result in her coming home shivering and looking like a short-haired chihuahua. Reading the reviews here led us to CleanDog. In short, John did not disappoint. He is so kind and helpful and went the extra mile (and then another extra mile and then another after that). As others have experienced, we could not believe how wonderful she looked. In fact, it was the best she has ever looked, hands down. John patiently brushed her out, gave her a much needed bath, and then working his own unique magic, brought out the scissors and turned her into a show dog. I can't imagine taking her for grooming anywhere else in Chicago.
