JAKE NEEDS PEOPLE TRAINING!!! I would like to start with the type of energy I normally have been met with here mediocre at best and subpar customer service at this Petco location in CdA. Not enough to say yes they are an awesome team and store but not enough to remark and say it is horrible. Overall, without getting into all of the details I simply would like to mention that JAKE an employee of this establishment acquires re-training. He permeates an in-subordinate attitude and doesn't take any appreciation for working with his other team members. He was very obviously irritated that he was asked to service a customer (I guess he forgot that he was at work) and decided to exhibit his pugnacious mental state on me. I was kind and remained that way despite Jake smugly getting a kick out of being an arse. It wasn't until I decided to stop smiling and remained silent that he mumbled thanks and have a good day. They have a large variety of fish; however, at least 25% to 50% of their fish in each aquarium appear sick. Not something I want to bring back to my home aquarium. Comparatively, the Petco in Sandpoint still has a few sick fish but not nearly as many. I also did not see a single unhealthy fish at Duncan's yesterday. I won't be purchasing any fish from here until they can get their aquariums healthy. read more

I can't speak to the quality of their other services, but their fish section leaves a lot to be desired. Nothing I've purchased from the aquarium section has survived longer than two months and my last purchase--two guppies--gave my established aquarium ich. Over the last year I've purchased a dozen cherry shrimp, a gourami, two guppies, and a betta and they've all met a similar end. It's my fault for thinking that it'd be better, that it was just a fluke, but I'm done. Their employee Chris is way too knowledgeable and cares too much to be wasted on this store, hence the two stars. The front-end staff are also very good. It's just a real shame they can't source their stock from better places. read more

If I can leave 0 stars I would. These groomers at this place do not know what they're doing. My wife took her support companion dog and for a trim, Because she had some matts from our previous camping trip. My wife gave specific instructions on on the length of the trim and to leave the hair on the head since there is no tangles. Not only did the trim her with a 0 razor, they cut her, removed all facial and head hair including wiskers. My wife is so Devastated. So unprofessional. Please don't take your dog to get groomed here. read more

Kat!!! She alone is the definition of 5 stars! No words can describe how sweet, energetic, patient, loving this gal is that works at Petco. We enjoy Creature Feature as often as we can... my two year old loves the animals but is reserved and shy when participating. Kat brings everything down to our comfort level, is extremely knowledgeable on all the animals we interact with, is always happy to help, and simply glows in her position. I brought my pup in for a full grooming. I said he needed a short cut. I brought him in, two hours later I was called because he was done. I requested nails cut, teeth brushed, ears cleaned, teeth brushed. When I picked him up he looked like a hot mess. He was still damp and his fur was unbrushed. I asked why he wasn't trimmed-the answer was you didn't ask for it. The cost $69.99. I was so disappointed. I called a friend to ask for a referral to a good place. She recommended Stars Pet Groomers. They took my pup there in a half hour. They were surprised that his paw hairs were not trimmed after the nail cut. He had hair under his footpads that were not removed. His nails were cut but not filed so they were sharp and pointy. I caled a neighborhood place named Star's. They cut his straggly hair parts, (not a cut but a "clean up"), they had to retrim his nails because they were still long and not filed down, they did a "butt clean" because there was poop on his backside hair and tail, and checked him over to be sure he was clean. Cost- $15.00 because they felt like my pup and I needed a break. I hope anyone who sees this will go to a Star because they are thorough, caring, and really love pets! read more

I always look through the groomers window when I shop there. I was contemplating taking my dog there to get groomed. What I see is scared dogs being brutally groomed. One large dog was on a raised table which the groomer let slam to the ground and the large dog appeared nervous and was shaking. Another groomer was giving a small dog a close shave then started clipping the nails without even being mindful of clipping the quick. The dog was trembling. The groomers seem to have no compassion or tenderness for the state of the dog. Will not be taking my two cavaliers there. The other reviews here collaborate my review. read more

I will start in all honesty saying we were really use to our Spokane PetSmart so a bit skeptical upon our move to not have one and go to, but a new store PetCo in Cda. We have been blessed beyond measure! This is how our first experience went. I was searching the Internet for Rabies Vaccination. And what do I find but a Veterinarian that VOLUNTEERS their time at the Cda PetCo and only charges for the vaccination Saturday evenings from 5:00-7:00. It just happened to be Saturday afternoon that I was searching. It was a relief to be able to get my month over due Rabies Vaccination the same day! They also made us aware of others we were able to get. The next experience was purchasing dog food. We decided to go back to Hill's Science Diet Dog food. We had switched previously for financial savings but realized it is true when stated Hill's Science helps lessen the volume of dog poop! And it is better for the doggie anyway. So I returned my 50 pound bag to Costco taking that cash across the street to PetCo. The three teens with me helped me find and put a 38 pound bag putting it in the cart. Suddenly I thought hey lets look to see if there are any coupons online on my phone. There was 10.00 off and PetCo honored it. They have fantastic service, partnerships, and products. They seem to really care about both pets and their owners hence the service and partnerships. I will continue to give them our business as long as we have a pet and live in the area. read more

The grooming department appears to be pretty efficient. They have lots of appointments, it's better to make an appointment. A few times we've walked in they were pretty busy. Nice ladies, professional. The store is clean, very few associates on the the floor. If you need any assistance, you are on your own. read more

It took 6 weeks to get a grooming appointment and it took 4 hours to complete. I have a Schnoodle and requested a schnauzer cut. My dog turned out looking like a rat terrier and that cost me $90.00. I have to be 18 or older to buy a fish? I went into the store as a 15 year old to buy a little cheap fish and they asked to see my ID so I asked why and they Told me I had to be 18 or older to buy a fish and I asked why and the worker completely ignored me and laughed And walked off. I called them And asked them what's their age limit and they told me I had to be 18 or older and I asked if it was a store policy or the law and they didn't even answer me. A guy Kept laughing and telling me I was arguing with him when I only asked him a simple question and he told me I needed to sign a contract and be 18 or older to buy a fish. A CONTRACT FOR A FISH? I get it if it was a hamster or a bunny or something else but a fish? He didn't even tell me if it was store policy or the law. He was rude and kept laughing at me. read more

They stated I was forced to have a loyalty card to get a refund. On top of that she tried to up sale me on something I did not need. I hate that I even have to give them one star. read more

This rating is only for Petco's grooming department. I have a 7lb Chihuahua. I live an hour away from civilization so I'm not able to get her nails trimmed as often as I like. I know, I'm awful, and I have arthritis in my hands so I can't do it myself. Therefore, I'm always on the hunt for a groomer who is available on a walk in basis and won't give me grief because my Chi's nails got a little long. (What did dog's do before human's began trimming them anyway?) Having traveled to Coeur D'Alene on the 2nd of January, I found my usual groomer closed! I guess they needed one more day to recover from whatever New Year's party they attended so, I had no choice but to look for other groomers in my cell phone. I found that Petco was open and called them. They didn't have anyone on the schedule at the moment, so we hurried over there to get my Chi in. The ladies working there were super nice. They totally understood about my dog's nails being long or didn't care one. If they did, they had enough common sense not to say anything to me directly. I went and did some shopping in the store while they were trimming my dog's nails. I kept an inconspicuous eye on the gal doing the trimming from the hamster cage to see how my dog was doing. She seemed very experienced and knew how to handle my Chihuahua. In fact, my Chihuahua wasn't giving her any problems at all. I particularly like how they secure your dog to the table. It's up high, and the dog's head is gently strapped comfortably in a special harness that keeps them from biting the groomer. My Chi seemed perfectly calm and ok with the trim. What got my five stars? They trimmed her nails and dremmeled them down safely to a nice length; where they're supposed to be. No other groomer around made them look nice and even like this lady did. She knew what she was doing and did it quickly as well. I was super surprised with how nice her nails looked after the trim. ($15) Also, it didn't smell like dirty dog in there. They keep the facility clean as well. I will definitely keep going there for nail trims. read more

I also agree that this place is pricey. They list those dog igloos for $200 for the large ones when you can get it for half that online at overstock. But it's a great location and selection. I've always found really nice products here. I've gotten dog beds and cat beds, pill pockets and collars... Huge variety of toys and foraging toys. If you're a smart shopper you will check amazon first but if you need something now it's a great spot with friendly staff. read more

I took my dog to have him groomed. He was overdue. The person who did my dog, had me pay before I saw him. I went back to get him and he was practically scalped. She tried to say that he was super matted. I bathed and brushed him in between and that was not the case. Plus it was really expensive. I will never take him back there again. read more

I bring my female Papillon Abby and male Border Collie mix Robin here for grooming often. Abby costs $51 for a full service groom, shave/brushout/scissor. This is the only place so far that grooms her hindquarters properly so she doesn't get her fur messy when she uses the bathroom and I love them for that. I have watched them groom her and they are professional and kind. Robin costs around $80 and his experience is the same. My only complaint is that they usually quote me around three hours, and when I arrive to see if they are ready (never before the time I'm told) they usually quote me around 45 more minutes and then I watch them bring my dogs out and begin the grooming (baths are already done, of course). I'm not sure if I'm being underquoted by an hour or if they keep forgetting my dogs, but this has been my experience every time I bring them. I am going back (of course!) so I'll try to post pictures of my dogs once they are finished. read more

I have taken ALL 5 of my dogs to Petco for years. I recently took my dog in and was told it would be about 2hrs for her to get done. I waited around in town with my 2 yr old granddaughter as I live 30 min out of town. When I went back to pick up my dog I was told the groomer wasn't even in the salon! Staff had to call him! He was out "having a smoke"! When he returned (with a bag with a purchase) he told me it would be another 15 min because he needed to finish up with grooming my dog. I had to wait another 45 min or so! I was VERY disappointed in his professionalism! And wasting my time! read more

This is a really fun store with GREAT products and a huge selection to choose from. I have bought several guinea pigs from them and have been happy with them. The staff is friendly and professional. The store itself is clean and always well stocked. They go out of their way to say hello and be personable. I gave them 4 stars because their prices are really high and unfortunately I have had to stop shopping there because of it. read more

I needed a female guinea pig. It was essential that I get a female. So, I asked an employee to help me sex the guinea pigs and they were all creeped out about it. One girl told me "oh, you have to push in on their genital area and then if a penis pops out, it's a boy, and if not, it's a girl." I told her that wasn't much help because I wasn't going to go fondle the genitalia of all the guinea pigs in the store. Eventually she reluctantly went and found me a girl, but I was tempted to go "I don't really like that one, will you try another one?" just to be a jerk. But I didn't, I just accepted the first girl she found. THEN, we needed a male parakeet. The bird "expert" had no clue how to sex the parakeets! At this point I'm getting irritated because I'm just trying to be a responsible pet owner and I don't want a bunch of unwanted guinea pigs and parakeets, damnit! I looked through all their parakeet books so I could determine the gender myself, and there was absolutely no instruction on how to do this. I didn't want to get a Petco Rewards card, as those things bother me and I don't like having my purchases tracked. But it's like they're always insisting I get one. I usually say "I'll just use the store c card," because every store has a generic card for people like me. But she wouldn't let me do that! Maybe she was retaliating for me making her touch guinea pig penises. All in all, I think this store is staffed by people that have no clue whatsoever about animals. read more

They never have crickets, female manager told me they never received their crickets this week when I saw the UPS guy drop them off 2 hours prior. I also took my new puppy there for puppy playtime and the dog "trainer" caused physical pain to my 4 month old puppy. She punished him for mouthing her by pushing his lip into his teeth, causing him to bleed. I later found out that is against petco policy, big surprise there. There are plenty of other stores that sell similar products at cheaper prices, and as a bonus they won't physically abuse your pet. Dead fish in the majority of their tanks every visit, even saw a dead mouse in one of their display tanks. They have the proper care of the reptiles right on the price tags that include the temperature, humidity. But I've never seen their reptile tanks adhere to them. And on top of that, one of the groomers wasn't paying attention to a small dog she was grooming, and it fell off the table and was hanging by the leash from the table that was probably 4 or 5 feet off the ground. read more

I wish we would have looked at the reviews before we took our little deaf dalmation here. He is a good dog with no bathing issues. At the time of pick up we had no idea what had happened and even tipped the groomer but to our horror just hours after we picked him up he started to show signs of sores. By the following morning he had scabs all through his coat from the aggressive brushing he had been through. Now days later he has bald spots where the scabs had been. I feel all and hope I stop someone else's baby from going through this! read more

I took my golden retriever ( Abby) to the groomers today (first time). Everything was going fine ( filling out paper work) until the part came up where they would take Abby if a medical emergency came up. I was told by one of the groomers that they drop everything and with out hesitation would rush her to Hayden Vet Clinic and that the store manager would call me while Abby was in route to Hayden.. I said I wanted her taken to Mountain View Vet. She then stated that Hayden was the closest and they would not have time to call me prior to taking her to there Vet of choice. Another reason given was that know the people at Hayden. AND that it did not matter that Mountain View has Abby's records. There are six (6) vet clinics closer and Mountain View is the same distances as Hayden. I do not know if It is a store policy or a Petco policy to send animals in a emergency to Hayden. Abby and I walked out of Petco without Abby being groomed. read more

I have an older dog who I specifically let them know does not tolerate long periods getting groomed as he has anxiety. They said the appointment would be no more than three hours. I dropped him off a little early as always and then showed up at three hours. He had only been washed they said they would contact me. I returned in an hour. No progress at 5 hours there I would not leave as I was worried about him and they acted annoyed with me . Total time 5 1/2 hours. They overbook and don't communicate with the owners. read more

Beware of their groomers! I walked into the Coeur d'Alene Petco yesterday between 2:30 & 3:00 and immediately saw a groomer ABUSING a little, yorkie-like dog. The little dog was shaking horribly and pulling away from the groomer, a tall, slender woman with very blonde hair. The woman was pulling the fur on the little dog's FACE, which made the dog squeal in pain. I'm ABSOLUTELY certain it is wholly unnecessary to inflict pain on an innocent animal in order to groom it. This was horrible to watch and kept me awake last night. This woman doesn't deserve to keep her job! The person in charge should also lose her job. I quickly forgot why I went into Petco and left, shaken. I will post this everywhere I can find to protect others. read more

Initially, I was impressed with the willingness of the groomer to work with us around our dogs fear of grooming. However, the actual grooming quality was very poor. Although he looked good from a distance, once we got home, I realized that most of what I asked for had not been done. The first problem was that she didn't listen. More than half of the instructions for my standard poodle's cut were not done. Ears and legs were left long instead of being trimmed, and his eyes were still obscured by long hair instead of being cleaned up around them. The hair on his head was also left long. The second issue was that I found 5 mats on his chest and three more on his legs when we got home. One of the main reasons I wanted him shortened up a bit was because it was becoming difficult to groom effectively. Her failure to find and remove the mats tells me that she did a rush job rather than a thorough job. AT Petco, you pay at the main store register before picking up your dog, so I left her a 15.00 tip before seeing him. Turned out to be a $100 grooming cost for a $30 job. I will never take him to this Petco again. read more

Petco always does a great job on our dog. If you get their nails trimmed, its worth the little extra to get them buffed because then their smoother instead sometimes the nails although shorter can still be sharp. read more

Petco. Petco. Petco. Before I bought a fish here, I thought it was great and they always had such a large selection of dog and cat toys. Then I decided it would be nice to have a beta. I head to Petco and pick out the most lively beta they had, he was also pretty cute because he had a curly top fin. After searching out an assistant he helped me out with getting supplies i needed pretty well, so it seemed like a mostly smooth experience. A week after I got my fish, their was something clearly wrong; so I started talking to other pet shops and doing my own research to find out that my fish was sick, and his curly top fin was actually from a Bactria that was eating his fin so it curled. Awesome a sick fish, something I never thought I would have to deal with, so I got the necessary water drops and salt stuff to make him feel better/live longer, from a different pet shop; he lived for a good 6 months slowly improving, then he passed. Now it's not exactly Petco's fault that my fish was sick, but them selling sick fish in the first place and not warning me of my fish's clear condition is their fault... Since then I've branched to different pet shops where I not only get help before having to find out I need it the hard way, but all the animals and fish seem healthy; and now I never have to go to Petco ever again. read more

I get my 4 large breed dogs groomed here and always have a good experience. The groomer we have used for years recently left to pursue another field of work, but the new groomer did a super job too. Now, just so you know my dogs do not need to be trimmed, just washed, nails trimmed and 3 get the furminator treatment. read more

I walked in with my black lab a few months ago, we were gettin ready to go on a hike but I wanted to buy her a halter vs a neck leash. I asked this woman for help and she was so kind to us! She greeted my dog, helped me pick out a good fitting halter and was so caring you could tell she wanted my dog comfortable. It's hard to find patience anymore in people. I will be going back in for something soon I am sure, and asking for her! :-) mad I forgot her name! Dark long hair has two jobs because I ran into her at the library as well. I am so angry at this store. My wife dropped our dog off at 1 pm for a grooming (which in the past has taken no longer than 3 hours) and I was just old that we won't get our dog back until 6 pm. The groomer was rude and snotty when I told her I was scheduled to leave town at 5:30 at the latest so I need my dog by then. She said she can't guarantee she'll be done by then but I can have my dog by 6. I told her that I will have my dog back by 5:30 done or not. Getting a dog groomed there is a little pricey anyway, but for someone to take 5 hours to wash and trim our dog (nothing special required and no dog temperament issues) is absurd. read more
