I buy my birds from a private dealer; but when it comes to my pets health, fitness and joy I come to Petco. I could never believe that such a huge franchise chain is so dedicated pets. From nutritious food to grooming, including good service is written on every employee. They are open on most holidays and open till 9 pm. The only thing this place lacks is the amount of pets they sell. They only sell fish, cockatiels, parakeets and hamsters. If you want a large variety of pets. Than you go to petland discount store. But if you want fresh food than you come to Petco. read more

I truly believe the previous review about the place being understaffed is correct. You would be lucky if you can actually get someone from the grooming dept on the phone. Even if you do, you will be placed on hold immediately until the phone disconnects. Left messages but no one bothers to call you back. If this wasn't the closest Petco, I would not go here. The manager, Steve, is rude and insists that other Petco's are incorrect for allowing coupons from coupons.com - even after I called corporate to ask if they accept coupons from coupons.com. He insisted that Petco only allows coupons from the Petco website which is stupid because Purina's website offers coupons that are specifically sponsored by Petco with Petco's logo on the coupon itself and is printed from coupons.com. read more

Had my dog bathed there. The 2 staff members I spoke with were professional & took great care of my 10 yr old Border Collie mix.

0 stars, took my Yorkie for a bath plus spa package which included luxurious shampoo and conditioner, teeth brushed and paws balm. After an hour or so picked him up and asked if his teeth were brushed and she said yes so I smelled him and his breath stinked and his face smelled bad and his paws smelled like pee. This is a really good pet store for different variety of dog foods. They don't have much of a selection of anything else unfortunately. They have friendly and knowledgeable staff when it comes to pets. They items tend to be more on the expensive side but that's to be expected when going to a specialty store. read more

This review is for the training class. Petco offers 6 week basic obedience classes for $120. I signed up my puppy for puppy kindergarten, but I ended up in a regular adult class, which meant no off leash play. The class is taught completely on leash, which I found disappointing. The instructor will go thru all the basic commands, sit, down, stay, leave it, etc. The group of people you take the class with impact your experience, everyone was a first time dog owner. I really disliked the whole alpha, Cesar Millan crap. Though there is thankfully no leash jerking taught. Teaching is reward based. I'm not sure I would recommend this to another puppy owner, unless they had a very tight budget. Petco is the most affordable class I could find, but you get what you pay for. They will try to sell you stuff, and since you are already in the store you will most likely walk out with something. I think you can teach all the commands yourself with youtube or a book, go to class to work on the commands with distraction. The lack of emphasis on socialization makes this class a poor choice. Your puppy needs off leash play with other puppies, other dog owners should be encouraged to interact with other puppies. I did not find this class helpful for problems I was having at home, I was given very generic responses for housebreaking, separation anxiety, crating and time management. The class was taught in the middle of the store, so the area is not enclosed and there will be people watching. Often there wasn't enough chairs. Bottom line if you have no idea what you are doing, and this is your first dog, go to Petco, something is better than nothing. If you kind of know what you are doing you will be disappointed. read more

I came to this location tonight because it was the only one open nearby, to return a filter I purchased yesterday. I have the exact same filter in a larger capacity on another tank and it works perfectly. This one was loud and on top of being loud, made a disconcerting mechanical noise several times a minute. I took videos and after consulting several fellow hobbyists, decided to return it. I showed the cashier the video and another employee took the filter, and went to try it on one of their tanks. He came back and declared it worked fine and it was because it didn't have enough water in it. I had it on a fully cycled and full 10g tank and it was full just fine. Priming wasn't the issue. I had a video that showed it was properly installed and full of water. This kind of patronizing behavior is unprofessional and off putting. Ultimately another employee processed the return but we won't be back. The fish selection was also awful and one tank had at least a dozen dead guppies stuck to a filter. Won't be back to this location, for sure. read more

I cant tell you how many times the customer service in the grooming salon has been on point ! I cant remember a time an associate wasnt too busy to help ...! Petco has gone far and beyond to help me with my purchases and unlike petsmart they dont rush u out the door ! They let you take your time...and thoroughly explain what you need to know ...NOW FOR THE BEST PART! i mean the store as a whole is awesome but i wanna shed some true light on a special person named ANDREW ...HES ONE OF THE BEST! he has always taken great care of my dog he lets me know how to continue to service my dog the services he offers to my dog is great ! I know becuase he has always given my dog the best services ...the prices are very reasonable and unlike petsmart they truly care ! I go to this Petco a lot. Usually, it's an ok experience. There is one gentelman that is very knowledgeable, helpful and courtious. Recently I have been there and saw some new faces. I was at the register and this multicolored hair person was rude, and obnoxious. She was actually texting while she was ringing me up!! I couldn't believe it. I was asking about coupons and she got annoyed. I was searching on my phone and asked if she could help me out. She says no. And continued to text. Seriously? How ridiculous is that? I went to this Petco recently with my Boston terrier to get her groomed, I usually do it myself but I was referred here by someone else so I figured "heck, why not." So I get there and immediately Kristilynn was so bubbly and sweet and I could tell I made the right choice. She bathed my dog who HATES baths, like squirms every second when I give her one, but she didn't struggle at all when Kristilynn was handling it. I swear that girl is a dog whisperer. Based on this experience, I will definitely come back! And tell all my friends with bath-hating pups about your dog whisperer on staff haha read more

I just brought my dog for nail trimming. The woman in charge of the grooming services is very very rude and very unprofessional. First walking into the room, she shouted at my kids and myself because she was with another customer and did not want another dog in the room at the same time (I was holding a dog). She could of posted a sign stating that only one dog/ customer at a time. Then after waiting for the lady to leave, I walked into an empty room, waited as another lady walked in... when she (petco worker) came back out she ignored me, knowing I was already there, not even saying hold a moment or acknowledging I was there (again rude) and when finally asked what I was here for I told her to trim my dogs nails. Her response; understaffed we don't trim nails. Meanwhile, she had just accepted dog grooming for cut and trimming... very bad experience, can't tell whether she was racist because the two woman who were there before and after were both white American. Nail trimming takes two seconds, and accepting a full groom both before me, and releasing a groom after me clearly stated there was an issue with me, my kids and my Hairless dog. I rather pay double the amount of nail trimming just for better service. Very rude, insulting and just bad bad service. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Kristilynn is amazing my boy loves her and she always does so well on him considering he's a little rambunctious to handle but he comes out amazing when she's handling him because she truly cares about the dogs. If I could give this Petco a 0 star rating, I would. This is the absolutely worse Petco ever. Not only is the pets and animals not well taken care of, but the supplies and items are either broken or dirty or used. But overall, the worse thing about this Petco is the staff... they either don't have a clue what they are doing or just completely lazy. They either decide to fully ignore you and walk away or even afraid to touch any of the animals. They aren't even good at convincing you a buy a pet and save a life, they try every possible way to tell you not to get the pet so that they don't have to take the animal out of the cage. The staff needs to take a weekly course on manner and ways to improve their stores. I constantly come to this Petco and I am constantly disappointed in the cleanliness of the store and the staff. Either hire WHOLE entire new staff and start cleaning the WHOLE entire store or they are going to lose more business than they already have in the last 2 years. I am for sure never going to be going back to this Petco ever again. I purchased two male hamsters from this Petco and both turned out to be females who gave birth. And due to their mistake and recklessness, I now have 9+ more hamsters than I expected. I asked if they can take the babies along with the mothers just because the babies need the mothers for feeding. They told me they don't have any space at all.. I told them that I didn't want my money back or anything, I just need to find them a home because all the hamsters are beginning to fight. Still no help. Just extremely atrocious service. read more

Very disappointed does not come close to describing my inexcusable experience with the grooming service at this Petco location. My beautiful husky was shorn practically bare at the inexperienced and inept hands of these "professionals." While I was able to vent my dismay to manager Melanie it does little to protect my now furless fur baby from the New York winter that will soon be upon us in full force. This is only for vetco review. I had the worst experience here. Their hours were from 1.30pm to 3.30pm today. We brought our dog for shots and we got here at 3pm and got in the line immediately. We were looking for people to register at first when we walked in, but we didn't see anyone with devices. We thought there may be people in front of the line who'll help registering, so we just stayed in line. (Mind you our dog is 12 years old so it's not our first experience) When it was our turn, it was around 3:45pm. We asked where do we register, and the guy were so nasty to us, accusing that we cut in line, saying 'how come you didn't see anyone with ipads walking around if you really came at 3pm?' Just being awful. We explained that we didn't see anyone while waiting, but he kept accusing us for cutting the line and he's not gonna take our dog. There were people behind us, who already registered, so it was our fault that we didn't actively search for people to register ahead. However, it doesn't mean that you can just accuse for lying and be so rude to people. This guy (bald, with earrings, not even the vet himself) was just so rude and hateful that he kept giving the worst attitude. If you can look at the cctv cameras you could literally see us walking in at 3pm. I said 'we'll leave, but we definitely didn't cut' and everyone working there just ignored me. I'm so saddened by the fact that no one even listened to us as this guy was being so rude. I guess you're so miserable in your life that you just assume people for their worst. This place is poorly organized. I went in there for one thing before I had to leave for work. I asked the cashier where K9 advanticks was and she and another worker sent me all around the store. Two employees and not one of them knew where it was? A third employee found that the item was behind the cashier the whole time. I had a bus to catch and couldn't wait. But all that could have been avoided if the girl just turned around and gave me said item. Sorry to say but this Petco is the worst by far out of the many in Queens that I've shopped at. My dog only eats the fresh pet refrigerated dog food and when it's in stock I usually buy 5 or 6 that's lasts me a few weeks. The problem with this particular location is that they are always out of stock on this item. The past 5-6 times I've been there, their refrigerators were either broken or they've been empty. After asking the store manager what's going on with fresh pet, he gave me a sarcastic and ridiculous answer saying "oh we don't know when it'll be back in stock". This particular Petco is so understaffed with no one in the aisles helping you and the lines are long by the checkout because only 2 out of 4 registers is open. (Not a good idea when there's 20 people on line). I stopped coming here and now shop at other Petco's with no issues at all. This College Point location needs a major staff improvement, proper training on customer service and a more courteous store manager. This Petco won't see my face in there again. read more

love this petco. i got my dogs shots done her. they were very gentle with my baby. everytime i go in there they always have great selection of dog appearl like coats and sweaters for my dog. i love the treats selection they have. everytime i go in i always go to pick up a big bag of differnt kinds of cookies i get to pick out and its very cheap. i also resently went in for xmas shopping and they had great gifts for my dog. i picked up a big stuffed moose for only 5 dollars. gotta love the low prices read more

I arrived at the grooming salon at approx. 11:45AM to a short line, the people in front of me didn't have an appointment, neither did I. My dog was turned away because he was considered a "nervous dog" I was outraged and offended. Like any good pet owner, this was a slap in the face. I'm not usually one to write a review, but after the service my sister and I experienced at Petco this past Sunday (05/15/2016) it was only right as a customer to write such a positive review for one of the employees at Petco. Antonia (I hope I spelled it right!) was beyond amazing! Her patience and knowledge of the different brands of puppy/dog foods got my 10 week old puppy eating for the first time in a week and a half that I have him. It was as soon as we put down the new puppy food the puppy went running and started eating it immediately. Antonia was beyond personable and even told us a similar story about her dog that wouldn't eat and she used this particular brand food as well for her puppy. Thank you so much for being so extremely helpful and generous during this very stressful time being that we've never had a pup that had never eaten immediately from bringing him home from a puppy store/adoption center. read more

I come in here often to purchase cat food, they do have good deals when you use the discount card they also carry the better brands of food so that I am not feeding my cat junk. I also use their pet groomer to get my cats nails clipped, I find the staff to be very nice and professional. You need to set up an appointment but you are in and out quickly, I can also watch them clipping her nails (and cleaning her ears) from window, Rommel is very good and my cat actually behaves, although I believe she is giving me dirty looks as I watch!! read more

I shop at this store very often, ever since I got my shihtzu. I was recently in on a Sunday and this is the first time I had a terrible experience. The workers there are usually kind to me and my baby right as we walk through the door. A few of them even know her by name. However, there was one worker in particular that seemed like she went out of her way to make me feel like a bad pet owner because my dog had tear stains. I always make sure that I keep her eyes clean and free of eye boogers; the hair around it is just stained. But when I tried to walk away, she continued to ask me all of these questions about what I'm doing to clean her eyes and how i was cleaning them. She made it seem as though I was neglecting my dog, it was absolutely ridiculous. It was a girl with a very high pitched voice and very long hair, I believe her name started with an A. I understand that these employees are supposed to help customers by directing us to the proper supplies and how to properly use them but I just felt so belittled and I did not appreciate how insistent this girl was about my dog's tear stains. I think these employees should have more training on how to approach customers and how to carry on conversations with us without making us feel stupid and unintelligent about our own dogs. read more
