Since I got a puppy I've been spoiling him absolutely rotten and I was really excited to see that they opened a PetCo closer to me since I usually head to Garden City to go there. I headed there about a week ago since I needed to restock on dog food. They had a really good selection of different food even a big section for natural foods and treats but while I'm used to seeing 1-2 full aisles of dog toys in most other PetCo stores this place only had a little corner section. I come back here if I just need food or treats but for toy shopping I go elsewhere. read more

I have gone to this place for bearded dragon food and toy/scratcher accessories for my cats. They have pretty poor selections for anything other than dogs. There is never anyone around to get crickets and I have never spent under a half hour in there, even if crickets was all I was getting. They are under staffed and most of the staff is rude. There are 2 nice girls who work there, but they are also new. The place is messy and usually no one on the floor. All the Betta fish are DEAD. I was going to get one for my son, and when I noticed how badly all the poor animals are treated, I decided against it. They need to be more attentative to the animals there, as well as the customers. read more

I've been coming here for years and my normal groomer is with Bri. Today she wasn't able to service my baby Banza and I was lucky enough to get Andrew. Oh my god. He taught me so much about maintaining my pet while at home. He was very detailed with what I was getting. It usually takes 3 to 4 hours to get groomed. He did it within an hour and it was the best results ever. His de shedding job is amazing. Definitely recommend Andrew. My puppy the day before got her last shots and she could finally get a haircut however I go in and this lady I don't know her name told me my puppy is missing a vaccine (I know my dog was not missing a vaccine) and my dog could not get groomed, I showed her the papers and the email but still. I then found the vaccine she claimed my dog didn't have and she told me that I didn't show her the page? I saw her skim through each page... and I'm thinking she said that because her manager was there but it was bullshit and she made it sound like my fault, I even told her that my dog is fully vaccinated and I don't know why she said that she was missing one. Paws down for this Petco... This store is right across the street from my job but I have learned I should only go in if my cat will go hungry that night. I was actually kinda excited when construction began on this place. It is in a great location, nice big parking lot that is shared with Waldbaum's. This place was a disappointment from day one. Even now, a year or so later, you'd think they opened yesterday. The staff is slow as molasses, there is always a line, baskets or carts are hard to find, the shelves are barely stocked and prices are jacked. I often have walked in, walked out, went to Walbaum's and found what I was looking for in the pet aisle for cheaper. And that's a people store, not a specialized pet store. One time when I was waiting on line, a manager berated a staff member in front of waiting customers for not rushing to the register when she called for help. I felt bad for the poor kid and embarrassed for him as well. That rubbed me the wrong way. Classless. Today, I walked past and realized I needed blood worms for my betta, Snorkles. Figured it would be a in and out trip. Not so much. There are like two aisles of fish/turtle/lizard stuff. There were so many empty spots where merchandise should have occupied. I saw a measly container all the way on the bottom, and it wasn't cheap. The container I get at my usual pet store is twice the size. I looked around trying to ask an employee if they possibly had another size. No one was around so I made my way to the cashier area and the line was seven people deep. Forget it. I walked out. The grooming section is right by the front door and the pups seemed like they were having a good time, so I can't judge that area. Overall, I will be going elsewhere from now on. read more

I have an adult Chihuahua so whenever I need anything (food, apparel, grooming) for my doggy I usually come to this Petco. I would say that everything for the most part is reasonably priced. There is a great selection of food from wet to dry whether for dog or cats. They carry certain brands, like Royal Canin, that are tailored to specific breeds, whether its for a poodle or bulldog. I haven't been able to find that dry food anywhere other than Petco. You can also get your dog groomed or vaccinated here. Also, I believe they do offer certain classes for your pets. My only complaint would be that they don't clean up as often as they should. Petco allows dog owners to bring their dogs into the store and at times incidents occur. I just think the staff should be more aware of this and readily available. read more

This store is really designed for Dog owners and, being a cat owner, i find that i'm forced to shop here because its the only option in the area. The cat section is always in shambles. I shop for the organic catfoods as they're the only foods that don't increase my cats' weight. They never have a complete selection, and the stock is always limited. Every time I ask when they're getting something in, I am told to come back a different day of the week. So when I'm there, if they have what I need, I'm forced to buy in massive bulk or I won't see what they need for weeks. The toy area is always trashed - which I understand because everyone wants to play with the toys - but there's NEVER any time that its organized. My last complaint, and this is kind of petty, I know, is that "the cool things they sell are never for cats." When you walk up to the check-out, there's these gourmet dog treats, and dog foods, and gnawing items, and toys, and I always say to the people at the check-out "I'm an impulse shopper. If you had some cool stuff for cats up here, I'd probably buy something." They always apologize, but nothing has changed in the 2 years I've had my cats. Disappointing. If there was anything better that sold the brands I want to buy, I wouldn't step foot in this place ever again. I guess the birds would be a fun toy for the cats, but i don't feel like letting a bird loose in my house for my cats to chase down. That's just wrong. read more

very disappointed in the vet service department at this location.. went in with my small dog that needed to be seen. i was the last person on line when this very unprofessional women vet came out and did not want to see my dog because she claimed she was going on "break". her very own staff was taken back as to why she wouldn't examine my pet. very very poor customer service and people skills. im not sure why this women is even allowed to care for animals. its a shame that i had to be subjected to this type of treatment, i and many of my friends shop frequently here. sorry guys you lost a customer. read more

My dog Sasha is a senior pug/pit bull mix who isn't comfortable around those she doesn't know or places unknown to her ... however, Andrew took her in as one of his special clients and was able to connect with her and gain her trust... end result: I was greeted by a shiny and blueberry smelling Sasha that was happy and in good spirits. Just Moved here from California a few months ago. I have really tried finding a groomer for my Mya baby girl and just miss after miss, I finally walked into petco, which kinda was a little iffy at first, but when I had a conversation with Andrew the grooming manager, I felt good about booking my apt and brining Mya to him, when I say, he did the most amazing job on her I was so happy with his work but truly I could see Mya was even happier with her new cut and new groomer. Usually good employees and some are far more knowledgeable than others. Definitely friendly help. Great dog training. The vet service on Sunday's is awesome. Some vet assistants are better and more friendly than others. Prices are ok nothing amazing. But vast selection on animal food. Just need to train employees to be nicer friendlier and know about what they are selling. read more

Dont take your pet here. They butchered my dog's haircut. I have never had an issue with the Petco location on East Elmhurst but their groomer is out. I have never seen such a botchy and horrible haircut. He was shaved to the bone in the face. They asked to fix it after i complained and it came out even worse. No money back but charged me the full $76. I tipped too. Dont ever take your dog there. I know u got to earn a paycheck but dont do a job you are not qualified to do and still charge for it. read more

Karla is the best groomer we ever had the pleasure of meeting. Our 12 year old poodle Fluffy has been to many groomers in the past and it has always been a nightmare, she did not like being separated from us but grooming a poodle at home is not easy, and I tried for several years to do it myself and I did a terrible job lol she was a mess, so I took her to petco. Karla walked me through the process and took such great care of Fluffy, so great in fact that now she really gets so excited the minute she sees petco! I checked my account online and loaded a 5 dollar reward onto my PALS card. However at checkout I gave them the card and asked if the reward went through. The cashier said it did not, and that I would just have to call customer service because "that happens sometimes". I even offered to pull it up on my phone and maybe an override could be done. She didn't wanna hear it. Cmon I used to be a cashier and I know if customers rewards aren't working you can OVERRIDE the total for them with a code. Just a typical petco. I live in the area so I go here because of the huge parking lot. I usually bring my dog here as well because he just loves it here. I usually don't have a problem at this petco finding items but I did realize some of the workers aren't very helpful. My dog had a funny smell coming out of his ear so I came here trying to find an antibiotic eardrop to see if that'll help before I took him to the vet. I asked a lady here and she just looked at me and said she's not sure. I didn't expect her to be a vet and tell me exactly what each medication does but at least she could've showed me the isle where those medications are. I also had an incident where I found a toy for my dog and wanted to know if it was included in the 2 for $5 deal. The lady behind the counter sighed and checked for me. I understand if you're super busy but it only takes 2 seconds to check and there was nobody behind me. Some workers are super friendly- where if I ask what kind of food will be appropriate for my dog- they go out of their way to help me find one, explaining the nutrients and what the pros are of buying that specific food. I guess it's a hit and miss kind of thing. They also do grooming here but I'm not too sure of the price. Bottom line is- everything seems and looks ok here but some workers just don't really care about their customers. read more

I've been going to this location to get my mini pinscher groomed for a few years. I live in Long Island and travel into Queens once a month to get my dog groomed. I have been through many groomers but FINALLY found a groomer, Melynda, who takes excellent care of my dog...she takes good care of my dog like he's her own. I will make sure Melynda is the ONLY one who handles my dog. I trust her 100% that now I started to bring my pitbull to get groomed by her. read more

I normally like to stop by Petco in the city due to better variety and service. On my way home from a baby shower, I dropped by with my husband to pick up dog food for our Eski. One tip to keep in mind (courtesy of a groomer from Petsmart) is the foods are generally ranged from junk, frozen to healthy food. Healthy is the natural selection-Innova, Organix, Halo normally placed in the back aisle. Junk are the cheaper brands- IAMS, Purina, Pedigree, Kibbles N Bits (front aisle). There's also a category that falls under frozen dinners (similarly what we grab from the market when we're feeling lazy)- Hill's Science, Nutro, Eukanuba (mid-section aisle). Not that I'm telling everyone to go out and load up on organic products but it's good for consumer smarts. We picked up a 15 lb. of Blue Brown Rice & Chicken for adult dog. It also happen to be on sale at 26.99* (this is only if you have a manufacturer's coupon incl. with the Petco discount). Petco should had advertise it as 30.99 incl. tax (discount price shown only after savings and add'l $3 coupon). So it all sums up to $29.99 assuming no add'l coupon. We went back to double check with the cashier, John (appears as associate 70 on receipt who left the counter to do stocking) after loading the bag in our car. Already, you can detect that he was not only flustered but annoyed that he had to do some explaining. John started sighing out loudly. And goes, "that is correct, this is the price where you get $3 off from Petco and $3 from the coupon." Instead of just saying that is including the tax, he apparently puts on an ego trip. He then proceeds to tell my husband, no you are not listening to me. Look at me! Look at me when I'm talking to you! I was extremely pissed and looked around to see if I could find the store manager to intervene. My husband decides to humor him and chuckles, then looks at him and calmly replies, "Ok, I hear what you're saying. My point is if there is no coupon then those discounts wouldn't add up." He then ignores us and goes back to stacking the products. I couldn't believe the level of customer service! This guy has to get a gripe of himself. My god, he's working for Petco! I'm amazed that he's acting as if he's head of the security dept. What a complete jerk! It's only for a price check, lighten up guy! I would love to see what actually happens if a customer is making a complaint. **Avoid this disgruntled jerk at all cost if you drop by to this location. Apparently, he can not handle the level of professionalism nor comprehend what it takes to do his job properly when it comes to customer service.** read more

I've been to this Petco many times. It's very convenient with it's huge parking lot and close proximity to other important household stores. The staff is usually friendly and helpful, providing that you can actually find someone to help you. That's probably only drawback to this place, the staff seems to hid out and you have to hunt someone down. But overall, when you factor in the low cost vaccine and other services that are offered here, it's a solid place to shop. read more

I used to take my dogs to the grooming salon, but one day I stepped in and one of the young groomers was in the back. He did not know I was in the room and I heard him yelling at the dogs "stay still you little B**ch". He then came out as if nothing happened. I questioned him and he nervously laughed it off and said he was joking. Needless to say, I did not leave my dog there even after the manager tried to convince me. Grooming Dept has alot of new inexperienced groomers. BEWARE OF ANDREW new groomer at this location. ANDREW thought he could hard sell a spa package for my dog by threatening that she would come out red and irritated if I did not purchase the spa package. After the 4th time he threatened my dogs health I took her to a new groomer. The new groomer is a girl who used to work at Petco And opened her own salon. None the less STAY AWAY FROM ANDREW he will insinuate that your dog will be hurt if you do not purchase the spa package. When I questioned him on his tactics by saying I have been coming here for 4 years and nobody ever said this . His pompous response was that's why they hired me and fired all the old groomers. I reported him to the Chief Executive Officer of petco and got no response. read more

Can't say I am too impressed with the new groomers at the College Point location. When I called to confirm the grooming appointment, I was told a price. I show up and they add on $25 more all of a sudden. Upselling is their thing. If I wouldn't have asked, I would have paid more. This is the second time this happens with new groomers. In regards to actual grooming, unimpressed. Don't feel I get my monies worth and not going back. They also need to learn what customer service means and how to cater to the customer whom is leaving their furbaby under their care. Sad Petco's brand is affected by this poor service; seriously disappointed. read more

YEAH!! A brand new pet store recently opened last month close to home. It's huge and CLEAN!! They have full-service grooming, vet clinic, pretty decent aquatic department, adoption center (coming soon) and other pet needs. The aisles are neatly stacked and fully stocked. I decided to take my dog to Petco. He was in desperate need of a good groomer, and Petco said their "new groomer" had a 20 year experience. I trusted them, and left my little dog. When I went to pick him up, he looked happy. I went home and it wasn't until a few hours later when I found bruises around his belly, between his legs, and a nasty bruise inside his ear. I was recently in getting my cockapoo groomed and I have to say the groomer there ANNIE is incredible with my dog. She never behaves that well with any other groomer there in the past. Her haircut was exactly what we wanted and much better than we imagined it could be. The groomers personality was sweet and friendly and you could see the high level of precision in her work! I have a 6 month old yorkie who wouldn't give the time of day to anyone when it comes to bathing and grooming but somehow they did it over here (took two shots-but they did it)! First I came a couple of weeks ago and dropped my pooch off to Kristilynn(I hope I spelled that right). First off she has so much enthusiasm and you can tell she truly cares about your fur baby which is something REALLY important. I left my dog there and about an hour later I get a call that she was too stressed which I totally believe because she would even freak out over me bathing and combing her. I wasn't mad at all; in fact I was comforted by the fact that they know the animal well enough and know their limits well enough(signs of a great groomer). She told me to try again, so I did and spoke to Romel two weeks later who I was also recommended to by a friend of mine. I went on a Saturday met up with Romel, was asked what I wanted but at this point her hair was just too out of control I just wanted her to look fresh and clean, I didn't have a preference at all and basically left the cut in his hands. I could tell she was in good hands again when I dropped her off and two hours later she is cut and perfect- even better news I found a groomer! From nutritious food to grooming, including good service is written on every employee. They are open on most holidays and open till 9 pm.
