This Petco is just like any Petco with your pet food and supplies for sale on every aisle. At first I thought you can adopt or buy a dog or cat in Petco but that's not the case. There are special events or days they host that you can adopt a cat or dog but it varies. Anyways this Petco only sells small birds, hamsters, rats, a small turtle, a chameleon, small fish, parakeets, and anything that is small. I saw chinchillas too for sale and they were just sleeping and very immobile. There were too many white rats too and a lot of goldfish in fresh water tanks for sale. Store is kind of boring and most of the pets are just very small. Wish there was a larger variety of pets to buy. This place has a great variety of pet food organized in every aisle. Lots of dog chains by style and model for sale and some toys but not much of a variety. Very little cashiers here in this location. It's a big store but not much customers when I got there. OK. So I read some of the reviews just now and I'm very surprised. I am in this particular location at least once a week. I'm a rescuer so I buy alot of food and litter, etc. There is always someone at the register and even when there is a line it moves pretty fast. Each associate in the store is always helpful when I have a question. The only issue I have is Purina only supplies Petco with certain 'flavors' in the Fancy Feast line. But I've started buying a bit better food for my babies anyway. I have only good experiences here. I have not used the groomer so can't speak on that issue. But the Mgr., etc. are all very helpful. And I joined the Premium club so I get great discounts which with rescuers is really important. Have a good day everyone! Meow! read more

This review is based off my last 2 visits within a week. A brick and mortar store like Petco is extremely convenient when a pet owner such as I didn't properly stock pet food. I was thinking I was to go in, buy 3-4 cans of food to hold my pet over until my delivery comes. Nope, Petco wants to remind me why I shouldn't support them and that I should be extra diligent with my pet food supply. I'd rather support local or at least a local conglomerate than Amazon but Petco makes this difficult. This location either 1) lacks employees, 2) lacks properly trained employees, or 3) should include self checkout. I stood in line for 20 minutes (and the line was building) because a lady had some kind of discount coupon and 3 workers there couldn't figure out how to apply the coupon (including the manager apparently). They had to call a regional/district manager to sort it out. It wasn't the workers fault...I blame management but patrons had to suffer for it. I shan't be back to this location. read more

Brought my pitbull in for grooming she came back with a red bump on her head wtf!! Ears was not cleaned .. private part was not cleaned (female pit) she did not smell fresh or nothing they did nails ok I guess ..... but I would not recommend getting your pet groomed here sorry petco .. least this location I guess ... ohhhhhh to add to this we had a 6pm appt but the lady said she had 2 other dogs to do to pick up my dog by 8:30 pm so my dog was basically sitting In a hot cage until then they did the bars minimum to her as well.... I have been trying to make an appointment for almost a month, the app is not letting me do it, instead, says to call at the store, I been calling for over 3 weeks already, no matter if I call at the time that they open, they just don't pick up the phone, in a day I had call 3 times and nothing, I try to call customer service and they transfer my call to the grooming department and nothing, how you want customers and you don't pay attention to the phone, I'm a very regular customer for over 4 years already. Brought my other dog here yesterday, and I noticed immediately that there was significantly less upselling. Not sure if it was because the store is on top of reviews or if because they knew I'd been there before, but I definitely appreciated it. So here's something new I discovered. This dog is 50-55 lbs while my other dog that I took to Petco last week is 105-110 lbs depending on how much he's eaten that week lol, but the way that Petco works its pricing is super weird. I mean, I'm not complaining for my 105 lb dog, but you'd think that if you have a dog that's literally 50% smaller, the pricing would be different, but if I had opted for the same exact packages for both, both dogs would've come up similar in price! $55ish for the actual basic bath for my 55 lb dog (vs I think $65 for my big dog) + $30 deshedding (same for both dogs) + specialty shampoo and conditioner at $7 extra each would've come up to about $110 with tax, I think.......and last week I paid $120 for a dog that was twice the size. Anyway, that isn't really a complaint, because I opted to go just for the basic-basic-basic, and with a $10 off coupon, the total came out to under $50 yesterday (amazing!) - I just wanted to point it out the weird pricing structure so people are aware. Andrew (I think he's a groomer) took care of my 2nd dog yesterday, and I had a good experience. He was attentive and really went out of his way to be helpful, and he was literally done with my dog in a matter of maybe an hour or hour and a half. My dog looked shiny and great, and even though I hadn't opted for the deshedding, it was obvious that he (or whoever actually did the bath) had spent a decent amount of time brushing my dog out anyways, because he looked slick! Plus he smelled so good that I was obligated to smother him with snuggles all day and night, of course. He's still recovering from it this morning. haha. This is my second great experience with Petco grooming. Really happy that we decided to try them out. Would definitely recommend. read more

Great shop to browse for pet related needs...this Petco location offers an array of fish to add to your aquarium, they also sell live reptiles(iguanas & crickets) an on site pet grooming area, provide basic obedience classes for puppies, and even has a vet clinic on certain days. The place is clean, and sorted neatly. There are poop bags, and cleaning stations throughout the store. There are plenty of staff ready to help at the reptile station, as well as the grooming area. This location is super easy to get to, next to target and a supermarket. Plus parking is plenty. The crew here are friendly and seem to enjoy their job. The many times I have visited, they have been very cheerful and happy to go the extra mile. They amuse my kids in carrying conversations and sharing stories on their love of critters.....furry, wet, creepy, crawly or slimy. This is also a great place to bring your (behaved) dog to shop around and meet other furry friends. Cool place to socialize with other animal friendly people and talk about their diet, their grooming, behavioral issues....really, anything related to woof/meow unlimited. Petco is the local supermarket giant for basic pet related needs. They carry a good range of pet foods, collars, treats, beds, bowls....you get the idea. beware and never allow manny to groom your pet. he not only had an attitude because they were busy but he cut milo's hair down to near bald all over as oppose to just cutting down the matted chest. absolutely no need to shave my milo all over. and to top it off, manny cut the ends of my dogs' ears. the edges of both ears are scabbed still. i informed manny that milo is a nervous/anxious dog and hates grooming. 6 hours later i went to the shop to check in on him and saw milo was visibly hurt and distressed. i thought it was from all the hours being there but it was because he had been cut. he wasn't the same happy playful dog for 4 days. itching alot and shaking his head from the discomfort of the cuts (9 days later) same. read more

The selections of fish is few. But their supplies are much better stocked. Especially when it comes to dogs and cats. Eveeything theh have is generalized. If you want more specific or specialized stock or supplies, online is the way to go. I came here to pick up an online order of an aquarium stand. And it was a breeze. Employees were friendly and nice. This place fullfilled what I needed and it deserves 5 stars. BUT, as petco itself, they need to branch out and stock more supplies from different companies. KARLA was fantastic as always! We have two dogs that we take to her and would never let anyone else do anything for them because we have such trust in her. Akemi is a standard poodle who is about 45 pounds. She always goes in looking like a hot mess in the winter because we keep her coat longer for warmth. But Karla always manages to take the mess and create a lovely lady and sends her home looking absolutely beautiful and smelling wonderful! We love Karla and the employees at Petco are truly helpful. While we were there, we also wanted to sign our Maltese up for training classes. We had lots of questions and ANTHONY helped us. He knew what we were talking about when we asked our questions as well as all the answers! He was patient with us and our needs and make sure to apply a special sale to our check out which I had forgotten to tell him that I had access to. If the trainer is as patient and kind as Anthony was to us, then Mollie will have a wonderful experience as well as her momma and papa! read more

I've had my dog groomed here 4-5 times and it's always just okay, especially for the price. I went in for an appointment today and the price apparently went up almost $50!! Over $100 for a bath and haircut for a small dog? Nah. There's a "new push" for the add on spa package and the manager, Andrew, was a complete jerk about adding it on. He didn't even ask me, he said he was just going to add it on so I can get the extra things (that I did not want) and that it would be cheaper if I just added the package. When I asked him if they were tracked on their upsells, he said no, the store got in trouble for doing all those things for free before. However, as I waited 15 minutes to be helped at the desk, I noticed the sheet that tracks all the surrounding stores spa package upsells. He then told me I would have to pay an extra fee because my dog was matted. She is not matted. I went ahead and paid the extra fees and got the spa package because he honestly seems like an prick and I didn't want him to take it out of my dog if I didn't purchase the package. His exchange with other customers while I was waiting was also rude and the entire interaction made me feel uneasy. I'm not surprised that there are other negative reviews mentioning him and I hope that Petco pays attention to these. This is not the first time I have had a negative interaction with Andrew. (He also hung up the phone on me once as I tried to make an appointment.) As I walked out to my car I realized that I was no longer comfortable leaving my dog there (especially with all the deaths associated with the grooming salons) and I went back in to get her. I spoke to Bri on the way in (who usually grooms my dog) and explained that I did not want Andrew grooming her and I just had a bad feeling about leaving her. She was kind and I left after that. been to this Petco for years. the Manhattan locations are always stocked with great selections so i know what Petco can be capable of, however this Petco never has good selections in anything and the store is pretty big which sucks. I've also been applying to work at this location for a couple years and my application never gets accepted even though there's never anyone working at this location, and have a lifelong experience with animals, leading to long lines and never anyone available to help when you need it. This location is just meh, wish they would hire more people to help out and care for the animals that are trapped there I will say though the associates that do work there and help out are great. There's just not enough people even at the register or at the reptiles/fish i think there is a management issue at this location. Hire more people!! read more

Joey the groomer is the absolute best! I've been going to him for 14 years and I wouldn't trust anyone else . The grooming department is super clean and Thorough. Upon arrival I'm always greeted amazing and so is my shih tzu. I call joe the dog whisperer he has amazing energy that helps my dog stay calm. Not only is he calm but when I pick up my shih tzu he's in good spirits never nervous or scared. That is quite honestly the best reason. His haircut is always exactly how I expect it should be... perfect. He knows exactly how to cut his hair to make him look his best. He keeps his face round and cute. My dog is 14 years old so I'm hesitant with who to trust so joe is the only one. The grooming appointment is so fast which is another reason why I choose him and this location. This is for groom service. I didn't check review before I went there, I never though Petco would have such bad groom service. I book the service though app, which is convient, price is listed, all services is easy and clear to choose, BUT, when I got there, the price is totally different... hair is longer, more money, different shampoo, more money... And there is no choices for me, they just ask you to pay the money the said. So why there is a price on app? I think petco should have a price transparence. Second, the groomer is so unprofessional and unfriendly. Because petco has policy dog can't wear muzzle, so even though my dog is a Yorkshire, they can't finish since he is too aggressive(actually he is just too nervous ). So I went there twice with a not finished dog. They didn't charge me which made me add another start for this. But of course I won't go there anymore. read more

Zero star !!!!! On Sunday OcT 15th I witness the most horrific thing ever! It was early morning and the doors to petco were still closed while one of the employees came to see if another woman standing outside was there for grooming with that being said within seconds of the young lady opening the door without looking down or back a small dog ran out of the store. this dog ran through the parking lot into a 2 way street towards even for traffic near a highway! the petco employee did not even run for this dog I did she more so walked !!! I tried to get this dogs attention but calling and showing my dog but had no luck !!! I am not surprised by this as I took my dog to this petco and the groomer cut my puppies paw really bad and didnt call me until they got my dog out of the store on the way to a vet! This store should be shut down as non of these employees are professional and have experience to work with animals !!!! I pray that dog was found safe and sound !!! read more

This petco was my 4th stop, i visited 3 other petcos in the city and queens in search for a halfmoon betta and couldn't find one that looked great and healthy until i stopped here. There were actually two halfmoons that i really liked and i had a hard time choosing which one to bring home with me. I also took a look at their veiltails and deltas, i was quite surprised to see many of them to be very active and healthy looking. I would definitely suggest this petco if you're looking for a betta, they had quite the selection. The only reason this petco didn't get a 5 star is because one of the employees recommended me to buy a REALLY small fish bowl for my betta, saying that it was sufficient enough for my betta which was not true at all and that's really sad considering how many tiny fish bowls they probably sold to beginner fish owners. It's been 4 days now and my betta is very happy and swimming around constantly in my fish tank. He even surprised me this morning with a bubble nest. :) Update: 6/15/12 - Still as healthy as ever! read more

I go to this Petco a lot. Most of them already know me as the "cricket lady" since that's what I load up on. They are well stocked, clean, and have friendly workers - but there's never enough of them! Everytime I go, theres only but one worker - the cashier. The cashier is usually drowning with a long line of customers, paging and paging workers who rarely appear to help. Most of the time when I come in, I already know that I have to hunt down help. I walk up to the cashier and tell her to radio someone to the crickets. She'll page and page, but no one will appear to help. I usually bump into other customers who have been looking for help before me. That's when I start sweeping the floor, searching for assistance. That's when I start bothering the grooming worker and the cashier again. Once the ghost worker appears, everyone jumps on em. The longest time I've waited for help was about 30 minutes, which is completely crazy. Then to wait another 15 minutes on line. They really need more help. One cashier and one worker on the floor is not enough! If they're was another pet store that sold crickets that wasn't too far away, that's where I would be. But now, I just order crickets online. Triple the crickets, half the cost, and no Petco frustration. After a long day at work, the last thing I want to do is be in Petco for an hour to get something that should take 15 the max.
