Do not take your pet here for grooming!!! I took my dog there recently after making an appointment just for a nail trimming, which required me to leave work early. When we arrived the groomer (male) tried to ignore us through the frosted glass door, when I got help from up front, the guy finally came out and told me he didn't have time to trim my dogs nails and copped an attitude. I told them that I called to make an appointment and had to leave early and he said "I don't care lady" and stomped off. I talked to the manager, who apparently was the other employee standing there through the whole incident saying nothing, which I didn't know at the time. She didn't offer to do anything or really say anything, just prevaricated "oh, well sorry about that". She offered to see if he would go ahead and do it and I told her not only did I NOT want that man anywhere near my dog, I would make sure my family kept their dogs out of there as well. I am writing this review because i am TOTALLY unhappy with the grooming dept at petco and WOULD NOT reccommend bringing your pets here to be groomed.. Yesterday i brought my dog in for grooming and a bath, and was called shortly after stating that i need to pick my dog up beacuse he has a bloody nose! i brought him to the vet right after and they suggested he may have bumped his face. He was PERFECTLY FINE before i dropped him off and left him in petco's care. Later that evening after monitoring him i noticed his nose was swollen as well as his left eye had a broken blood vessel. I think its absolutly rediculous that the groomers have not the slightest idea what happened to him. Mind you he is a 17 LBS Shi Tzu, so whether they dropped him, or he hit his face, whatever the case is its totally unacceptable and Bogus that they have not the slightest clue to what happened to him and cant own up to it. Not to mention this is not the first bad expereince ive had here. Ive brought him in numerous times and they keep him for longer than 4 hours. once of which had him for over 5 hours to call me and tell me they need him to come back, they had an incident with another animal and were only able to give him a bath. So you mean to tell me my dog has been there for 5+ hours for all you to do is give him a bath? And a time before that one of the groomers was high off of pot, reeked and looked like he was high. I have shopped at this Petco for some time now, despite the fact that the service has deteriorated significantly. It reached a boiling point when I tried to make an appointment for my two small dogs. After being out on hold for nearly 5 minutes, the Groomer informed me that our usual groomer does not work their anymore. Needless to say I was disappointed because she was kind, listened to my requests and was, most of all, gentle with my dogs. While trying to explain how I wanted my dogs groomed, Mark said hat they could not accommodate me and that I would need to go elsewhere. I gave has enough with thus store! I spoke with Rick, the store manager and said he understood and felt just as insulted as I did. I'm not sorry to say that I will not be returning to this store and I recommend to stay away. Our pets are precious and I personally do not want mine to suffer at the hands of someone that does not care about you as a customer. Good luck! read more

Petco Vaccination Clinic! Stay away unless you like to stand in a line for long periods of time. It is first come first served, which is fine, but they really need another option than having owners and their dogs stand in a line for multiple hours. You have no idea if you are even going to be served before time runs out. The dogs are all agitated and you can't even get out of line to walk them around the store. I have purchased cat litter and food here for years. I use to go to PetSmart a lot but then I discovered this store right next to Trader Joe's. Its really convenient for me to go grocery shopping and get my cat supplies in the same run. Also the staff here is pretty knowledgeable. I asked what the healthiest cat food brand for dry food was and the employee on the floor pointed out the two healthiest options. Then I asked if there were any food storage containers and he took me right to them. The staff always asks if you need any help. Much different from the other places where the employees hide from you or ignore you. The store is always super clean. I was tempted to only rate this place 4 stars but then thought to myself ok so what would a five star place be........no answer. Yeap this store is at the top of the list for me. My go to spot for cat supplies and I can say for sure my cat approves. I even got her scratch post and some toys she likes here. Much better being able to examine the product in person than order online and hope you don't have to send it back. I'm one happy customer and I will be back as long as I live in Concord. read more

I am really surprised to be the first to review this store. With their poor customer service, I thought there would be some reviews already. Oh well! i wish I had any pleasant experience or recommendations for this store, but unfortunately "Me Thinks NOT"! This store is about 5 minutes from where I live and although every time I have been to this store i have never had a pleasant experience but I keep making quick stops for my pup's food/toys. From today onwards I will not go there at any cost! First of all they have a poor selection in dog food, dog treats and even pet beds. Secondly, the employee's there know nothing about what they sell or what product is kept where! Every time I ask them for something they go round and round the aisle and finally say " i don't even know where this product is kept"!! this has happened more than once. The store is very very very smelly. Especially around the area where they have fishes. Yucckk, seriously! There is one employee who has a bit of white hair style in the front and wears glasses CREEPS me out! He is very unfriendly, always on the phone while cashing out a customer and his constant Glare creeps me out. Well I expect to be greeted by a smile atleast if not a Hello while entering a store, don't you guys???!!! Today they denied to exchange a bag of dog food i bought from them about a week ago. My pup absolutely hated it so I went in for an exchange unfortunately they denied to do this. Okay i would have totally understood this ONLY if they wouldn't have done it before. I have returned a dog kibble before at this same store without a receipt. Then they took my name/PALS card number down and gave me a credit .....well today they told me that they cannot do anything without a receipt. Hmmm OKAY, so what do I do with a big bag of kibbles that my pup doesn't even care to glance at?! Well, all the other store's I know always return/exchange without any hassle but this store. i have a small puppy and we are still figuring out what he likes because he is very picky for a dog! 5 stars for the grooming department! Kevin did an amazing cut on my pup. I showed up late and was worried he wouldn't take us but Kevin took his time explaining the different lengths of cuts to insure I would be satisfied and more importantly he took his time to meet my dog! I highly recommend him and will be returning. Make sure you bring cash to tip the groomers, you can not add tip when you pay with your credit card. read more

I and several of my colleagues have been taking our dogs to this business for the last 10 years (used to be off Willow Pass.) I am stunned by Darlene's comments, and glad that Dan overheard the conversation. Vanessa is absolutely wonderful as are the other members of the crew. She has treated my animals and me with nothing but kindness and respect. She was especially gentle with my senior dog who passed away a few years back, and would make sure to do her first thing in the morning while I waited as she couldn't handle being left in the store in the crate when she became blind and deaf. My babies always come home looking beautiful. One of them has separation anxiety (rescue) but she is happy to go with Vanessa--I don't need any other sign to tell me that my doggies are well treated. This review is for Amber! My boyfriend and I went in to get some feeder mice for our ball python. We just adopted him, and it's our first go with snakes so we needed some extra guidance. Amber was extremely knowledgeable, and more than happy to help. She even chatted with us for about 5-10 minutes giving us tips, training ideas, and just cool snake facts. We've been coming here for my beagle's nail trimming and anal expressions. Last time my husband took our dog, the tech cut our dogs nails too short and one bled. We didn't realize it happened until he got in the car. Luckily I was send an email regarding their visit. The mgr called and she was very nice and said that the next time will be free. My husband took our dog today and not only they did an awesome job, the whole thing was free. I was very happy. I'm not sure who cut my dog's nails last time but this time it was Gabe. So far Petco has been treating my dog and I right. Ever time we come in , and we ask for help , Pete is always there. He helps direct us, negotiates with deals such as match prices, carries the items we want and offers if we need help taking it to the car. He is very helpful. read more

Well I cant find the petco on San Ramon Rd in Dublin but let me tell you what a filthy store. From the minute we walked in the door the entire store stunk to high heaven. I have been taking my Bichon/Spaniel mix dog here for grooming for the last couple of years after his last groomer moved. Kevin and Gabe have been the groomers I have used. Every cut they have given my dog has been excellent! They listened to the way I wanted him cut, and did exactly as I asked. They have the info in their computer, and we just go over it to see if it is still the cut I want. The grooming salon is always clean, and has large windows so you can see the dogs being groomed. My dog is actually happy to go there. All the groomers are very nice and friendly. read more

I have been to many pet stores over the years, and this one just wasn't one of the better ones. I know that people aren't always hired for their previous skills, but I would think that if you worked in a pet store you would try to learn a bit about animals. I wasn't thrilled with the service, since when I asked one woman for help in the fish section she looked at me, and said she would send someone over. Though she herself was just standing in an aisle right near the fish section. I finally got some "help" from a guy who didn't seem to know much about the fish either. I wasn't thrilled with how this store has turned out. I would hope that they could find a few people who wanted to learn about the things they are trying to sell. read more

I have a dog who was going to walnutcreek petco a horror story!!!! the few time I took him there ( goldendoodle) they would charge me outreageous and my dog would come out looking horrible and i started to notice him being to scared to even walk in to the salon. A friend of mine said try concord i did. I just had a ridiculous experience at this store. I have been here many times before to get my dog groomed and I never had an issue until today. I dropped my dog off at 11:30AM and was told she would be ready in 4 hours. I called 4 1/2 hours later after no news and politely asked if she was ready yet. The receptionist was very apologetic and so nice and explained they were really busy and that my dog hadn't been groomed yet so it would be another hour and a half. I understand they only have so many hands and multiple dogs to groom which takes enough time as it is. So an hour and a half later I show up even though they haven't called me yet and she still isn't done. I paid and waited for a few minutes while they finished up. Instead of walking out to get me, the groomer sharply taps on the glass window separating the store from the grooming area and when I look up quickly motions for me to walk inside. I walk into the reception area and wait a couple of minutes while the groomer takes my dog to the other room to get her collar and leash. Anyone who's been in there knows it's not sound proof and I can hear clear as day the groomer talking shit about the fact that I dared to call to get an ETA on my dog after 4 1/2 hours. She went on to mention an employee named Mark who lies to customers who call to check on their dog's process and tells them the dog isn't ready even if it is ready. I had asked them to make my Bichon as fluffy as they could, and then as I'm standing there listening and the groomer says "Well her ears are fluffy." That's when the groomer walked out and handed me the leash without saying a word after I clearly heard everything she had just said. My dogs ears were in fact very fluffy, while the rest of her was buzzed and fluffed out very very short. So she sort of looks like bozo the clown. I was so livid I couldn't even think clearly enough to say anything. I just left. I couldn't believe how unprofessional this groomer was and how clearly drunk with power they all seem to be. they move to concord Avn. the grooming sucks i went there to have my dog's neils cut and they cut it to far and started bleeding. then had my dogs groom one of my dogs ear hair is still long the another one is short. and my another dog well! you dont wonna see it. anyways. its alright i wouldn't give it a 5 star. the hole time they were all talking to one another instead of cuting the dogs hair and i had to wait 7 hours to pick up my dog i could have just gone there when my dog's up next. what is an appontment is for if you have to leave your pet for 7 hours. and if you are havin a problem with my dog they should pick up the phone and say something like sorry its taking forever to cut your dogs hair were have a bit problem with him, on also dont say that you did tell us that. because you guys didnt. it was our first time and last time going there.i give it a one star. read more

Went in on a Wednesday night an hour before closing to get a new, more fitting harness for my miniature poodle. We looked around and couldn't figure out which ones we liked or how they fit. We saw Nicole working on putting something away and asked her for help. She went out of her way and beyond to help us! She showed us different harnesses and helped us put them on. We even ooo'd and awe'd over the clothes for my tiny pup. Sadly, we did not get a harness (wrong size, not Nicole's fault). We did buy a few other things, all with Nicole's assistance. She is a great example of how all the store associates should be with their guests. read more

I have been to this PetCo location several times and I've never had a problem. I've read so many nasty reviews of large pet store chains, but i have had the opposite experience. I don't have my animals groomed, so maybe that's why I'm a fan ( I heard the grooming sux), but everytime I've gone to this location, I found everything I needed and usually more. I always use a coupon for their high-end dry cat food (ie Eukanuba or Science Diet) then I use the coupons from their flyers I get in the mail. My boyfeind and I were walking around and noticed this guy lurking around these pet rats up for adoption. We think he wanted them for his snake--becuz they were cheaper--and the lady would not give them to him becuz he wouldn't say what kind of home he had for them. We ended up adopting the rats even though people always say that pet store animals are not socialized and get No attention---We did NOT find this to be the case at this location. The sales lady seemed to know every animal in her store--which ones bite, which are chill, which ones are hyper, etc...and we couldn't be more pleased with our adopted pets. No sickness, no biting, totally cool being handled and around other animals. I've never seen a dead animal in that store either, as others have complained about Pet chains. We'll go back--especially with the coupons since pet stuff is always expensive no matter where you go... read more

I brought my SEVEN pound yorkie in to be groomed, he's 11. He's been getting professionally groomed for the last few years and before that I was doing it myself. I took him on a 3:00pm and didn't receive a call until 6pm saying they couldn't finish him bc he was being snippy. First of all--- he's 7lbs, second of all---- I'd be snippy if you were messing with me for 3hrs too! I've gotten in back at most 1.5 hours later... Poor dog has a furry face, choppy legs and a shaved body. :( won't be going there again. read more

I have been in twice to the groomer to have my miniature pinscher's nails trimmed. There is a groomer named Kristen who does a great job. My dog is always scared and usually screams with any procedure but Kristen tucks him under her arm and he doesn't even know that he is having his nails clipped. Then he walks out of the store with his tail wagging. She even called my vet for immunization info the first time since I forgot to bring his shot records. read more

Since their Yelp review was so bad, I avoided using them for about a year now. I called Petsmart and they were booked and unable to do grooming on my precious Olivia. I took a chance and to my surprise they were able to accommodate me with same day service. I had the pleasure of getting Chantelle (I believe her name was) and she did a fabulous job. Asked me exactly what I was looking for and did a perfect job. I have been to a couple groomers in the area and this was the best work I have seen, so much for Yelp review. I have decided from now on I will give the business a try and decide with their work. I am a satisfied customer and will be back!! read more

The pet adoption staff was quite rude and inattentive on several occasions. We ended up adopting two adult dogs from the Peninsula Humane Society in San Mateo. I wrote complaint letters to the Concord store and its parent office and never received a response. I guess they aren't interested in retaining customer loyalty. The real shame is that the animals are denied forever homes because of the staff's poor attitudes. read more

I have been taking my mini Aussie and rescue Chi/Jack Russell mix to Vanessa since they were at the other location. My dogs have always been very well cared for and looked/smelled fantastic. They both have separation issues and the staff, especially Vanessa, deal with them wonderfully. I no longer live in the area, but still drive 2 hours to get them groomed by her at this store. The workers here are nice and helpful. They have a variety of pets you can adopt. I am not sure about their grooming services since I do not have a dog, but I think that many hate on animal stores, particularily those that support PETA. Great store! I cannot think of one reason not to use this store, good service, honest advice and they price match. Every time I come to the store my dog and I are greeted hello. They match prices with all the stores and even the internet. The store is clean and bright and their staff has always been friendly and helpful. I have only tried the grooming once; they did a dog bath (matched price with the local Petsmart). The groomers only work on one dog at a time (they don't answer phones, work the cash register, etc.). I supplied my own flea shampoo (they had they had no problem with not charging an flea wash upgrade fee or instance on using their products). They washed the dog, blow dried and to my surprise combed her out and cleaned her ears at no extra charge! When my dog got a upset with the blower by her head they did the best they could, stopped so not to stress out the dog (hurray they cared!) and told me about the issue.. The entire process took an hour unlike their competition that said I had to leave the dog for 3 hours and if I wanted it faster they charge extra because they multitask with the dogs; phones etc.. I have spoken to the manager about different types and quality foods and he has been completely honest and confirmed I was using a top of the line dog food even though they did not carry it. He showed me how to compare the foods and told me about the different companies and about re-calls. Since my dog has some recent medical issues I mentioned I did not think it would be a good idea to change and he agreed; wow it is nice to have someone looking out for the dog. PETCO has a lot of different brands of food and one of the ones they carry maybe even better than what I use so I may switch after my dog is well. . read more
