This review is for the pet groomers. I started bringing Wrigley, my very tall standard poodle about a year ago. At first they told me he didn't like his paws and ears touched and made it difficult to groom. I understood they may not be able to continue taking him but over time he became comfortable with the same groomer. Sadly, she moved so I became hesitant once again. Ronnie took over and has groomed Wrigley twice now and I am so pleased Wrigley has done well. Ronnie figured out ways and tricks to work with my high energy/sensitive pooch. We walked out happy! I arrived at the store on 6/8/2023 to be told by an extremely rude employee that he had worked since 7:00 am and was done. I said the nail trim was a 5-10 minute process. This is the worst shop I've been to. As a fish care taker, this petco has a wide range of parasites infecting their fish. When we first came here, we bought three fish that were infected with Camallanus worms. We didn't suspect a thing, until my daughter looked up a red string coming out of one of our fish! We cured it eventually in all our tanks because this worm is highly contagious. We told petco our problem with their fish. They said "We don't have any worms, you probably already had that in your tank when you started." Four months later we gave into our emotions and started looking again when lo and behold there was camallanus worms poking out of the rear end of several Molly fish. Walked in there and asked a employee that was very rude to me and she made it very clear that she had been working there for over 32 years and asked her if I can show her a picture of what's going on with my dogs skin and if they carried something that could help with it and I also showed her a product that I saw on Petco website and she told me that they didn't carry it and that she had never heard of it. I was blown away by that because someone who has been working there for 30+ years doesn't even know what they carry after I told her it was from the website then she showed me where the aisle was at with her attitude. at this point, I was so upset with the way she treated me I put my items back and just walked out the store and took my business somewhere else. i've taken my medium sized husky about 4 times to get groomed and i always have to show that she has her vaccinations. i had an appointment today at 11 and who I believe was the manager chose to not accept her because her vaccines were in a legit vaccination paper with all the stickers from the vaccination bottles. now i've taken her here many times and never have they told me that they can't take her in because i need to have a paper of the vaccines. Awesome overall experience! We recently adopted a Yorkie-mix from our local animal shelter who was found as a stray and sadly, she was in pretty bad shape when we first got her...dehydrated and malnourished, by no fault of the shelter of course. We were going to put her on the same food as our other dog (Solid Gold Holistique Blendz) but the poor thing had 3 deciduous teeth (baby teeth) pulled out prior to adoption. Needless to say, she needed something soft and easy to eat but unfortunately, the wet food we fed her gave her the runs! Eck, not good! (TMI, I know.) As we walked around the store we found a young gal named Fallyn assisting another customer. When she finished, she greeted us warmly and listened to our situation. She was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and guided us in the right direction and gave great recommendations on how to improve the health of our new lil rascal. We now have her on Solid Gold Wee Bits softened with a bit of water and In Clover Fresh Digest which both worked like a charm! We stopped by originally to get a turtle for our pond we just built but because the koi were going to be smaller than the turtle, ashley informed us to wait till they're bigger to get the turtle. Cool, whatever. My daughter has asked me for a mouse for quite a while and has been saving up her money. I finally caved in (she was pretty bummed about the turtle) and said yes. She gathered all of the necessities and more. Ashley wasnt in the area anymore but at the register instead so we waited in line and said that we wanted to buy 1 of the mice they had. She said that they were not selling ANY animals because they are short staffed and we'd have to come back another day. My daughter got upset and emotional but Ashley has no sympathy to give a damn. She could care less. This isn't the 1st time shes given me a hard time. I had tried to buy fish as a gift and she refused to sell to me even after telling me I'd need all the necessities and me agreeing to buy them. We decided to go to petsmart and they were more than willing to help. They said that it makes no sense whatsoever that petco wouldnt sell us a mouse. I owe this store my continued loyalty .they really took care of me back in 2019 when one of my dogs passed away and they refunded the dog food to me even though they didn't have to . it was a tough time and they made good on it . I waited over a month for a grooming appt for my 10 year old dog just to be turned away with disrespect. My dog is on a monthly plan with Banfield at petsmart and has been treated by them since 2013 for vaccinations. He was taken for his appt today and shown a screenshot of his vaccination schedule. They said that they have to be within 3 years and they were in fact in 2020. It was explained that he desperately needs a groom as we waited so long to go to them as they are close to home and he is slipping on the tile with the fur on his paws. A very rude groomer that was not behind the computer snaps "I AM NOT TOUCHING HER!!". The groomer was then informed that it was a he and we understood we were being denied service. They wasted a month of my time counting the days down telling my dog that is used to consistent grooms that he would be groomed soon and have relief from the heat just to be told he would not be seen. They wasted my time and my elderly dog will now have to slip some more on my tile till I find a place that is going to treat us with respect and actually make sense. Once again, the shot record was 2020 and they stated they were only valid for 3 years. We would be covered until 2023 but I guess the groomers have a vaccination schedule more figured out than my dogs vet? DO BETTER. I spend thousands at this location yearly for my 3 dogs and after the way we were treated we won't spend another penny or minute here. Don't waste your time. Shame on Petco for selling lasers as dog toys. It seems like harmless fun to new dog owners, and unfortunately that is exactly what we thought. After using a laser to play with our dog only once, he's been suffering the long term effects for 2 weeks now. We should have known better but didn't. Petco undeniably knows better but still sells them. Reading online now, we understand how detrimental it is for them. He runs around in circles all day and gets fixated on the smallest things (lights, shadows, ceiling fans). He has no sense of his surroundings anymore and literally runs straight into walls, furniture, and other objects because he's focused on the light reflections around him. There is no question it has diminished his quality of life, all for $5 or however much you guys sell those lasers for. You are trusted as a resource for new pet owners. I have to drive further to get my dogs groomed but Alexandra 's experience and love for pets make her the best groomer. It hurts me to write this review because I have always had the best experience taking both my Vizsla's here since 2016. Both my dogs go to the groomer regularly for nails and baths. The previous staff knew my dogs very well. The salon staff are brand new but whenever they change staff my dogs have always done good. Today I took both dogs for a nail trim. Julio H. And his partner Katrina C whom I've never seen before took my girls and trimmed their nails. My dogs breed are Vizslas which are a high energy breed. I was surprised to pick come back after their nails trim to be told I cannot bring my dog back because she was so scared and had behavior problems. This is the first time I've heard this. I'm not saying it's ok for my dog to behave badly but I can't help but wonder if the groomer lacked some experience or training. I was really surprised when he told me I could not take my dog to get groomed there ever again. I've been a good customer for years and this is how they treat us? My Pomeranian Princess loves exploring the store and seeing the other dogs that come. They have adoptions at this location as well, and sometimes if you go you will see all the cute dogs were adoption running around the play pen playing. They also offer shots for your furbabys also. I mean it's a one stop get all your pets needs met kinda place. So why wouldn't you love Petco?! Lol I absolutely loveeee the adorable little doggy outfits and dresses they have for my pups. They have cute sun hats, and snow jackets too! I love dressing my Pomeranian up and spoiling her at Petco. The grooming salon is located to the right when you walk in. They do a good job and are nice to the dogs. There's windows so if you want to stay and watch your furbaby get groomed you can. Princess loves getting pampered at Petco. I went in today for dog food treats and fish. The store was seriously understaffed. The cashier Jessica, who helped me and was kind and friendly, obviously needed some help. I purchased a clearance item that rang up full price and I needed a credit processed for the difference. One of the managers on staff named Jonathan was at the front of the store counting inventory, and when I approached him he seemed thoroughly disinterested in providing any type of customer service whatsoever. I asked him if Jessica needed a manager override to process the credit/return to which she replied no. He walked away while customers continue to pile up in the line behind me and went about his business. Any employee should be able to jump in and help with anything and there were several people waiting for assistance while the few employees they did have ran around trying to help everyone they could. This is the second time I've encountered Jonathan and been turned off by his careless attitude towards wanting to provide any assistance. I am hoping that upper management will see this review and actually do something about this employee's bad attitude. Unfortunately Petco is five minutes from my house and very conveniently located. I have been coming to this store for over 10 years and have often recommended it to others; no more. I am a dog trainer so I get around a lot and I have sent many people to Petco over the years. But now I have to say I will never visit this store again. I wanted to return a Petco branded nail clipper I bought a week ago and never used but I didn't have my receipt with me. I have a store membership card and looking this transaction up should have been easy. However, customer service and courtesy to loyal patrons is not something the manager of this store understands at all. She refused any cooperation at all. She could have easily scanned my store card, see my purchase history including the item in question and do what any half-way intelligent business owner would do; making a very profitable (for Petco) customer happy but she choose a different route and it really ticked me off. She was very rude, waived the recently changed store policy in my face and told me no returns without a receipt. She basically told me I could have stolen this item. This was unbelievable to me. I don't think she understands that treating long term customers poorly makes them leave permanently. I will move my shopping to Kahoots from now on. This store needs new management. I bought $480 worth of fish tank equipment for my kids for Christmas. We set up the tank and ran it to get the ecosystem going. We bought a $40 test kit and tested the water and it all can out almost perfect with live plants and all. We bought about 10 fish, mostly Neons and guppies to start out with. One of the fish died about five days later so we returned it no problem for the same type of fish and got one more so it had a buddy. One of the died five days later along with one other. We tested the water and all was perfect or within normal ranges. I took the two fish in and the manager, Brenda, told me that they wrote on the receipt that these were none guaranteed fish. After I told her that no such thing was written on the receipt and showed it to her she said they would offer a one time courtesy exchange I laughed and walked to the back where the guy tested the water and said it was good and no issues. I picked up one small plant and a pump and supplies to get some bubbles going and went to the front. I told the girl I was to get a credit for three fish so she checked with the manager I had talked to and she said that the water tested bad and would not be giving credit. Not only did she lie she accused one of her employees, Jim, of lying as well when he had done nothing of the sort. We will not be shopping here any further it has nothing to do with the $11 that we are having to eat it has to do with the poor customer service and that people are willing to lie over $11. read more

My family and I like the store and the stock but cannot stand the customer service at this location. I've gone here for years, buying anything from guinea pigs to dog food it seems the custom service is consistently bad. The young manager on duty (Lizzy) along with others always seem to be incompetent, very rude and the customer is not always right. It seems they love pets more than people. I have been hung up on, yelled at and flat out given crappy customer services over the years. So, I wanted to finally share my experience. My dog eats the Nature's Recipe as part of his diet so I get the food for him every month there. So, I went in on New Years Day to buy a 30lb dog food. Had a coupon on my iPhone (to save a tree or two) and the manager would not accommodate because she stated it would mean she would have to do extra work on her shift close. (Mind you 4 customers are behind me listening) What kind of customer services is that? I informed her that normally the cashier scans the coupon and fills out an ticket using the info provided and have done so the last 6 or more times I have bought food with no issues. She refused to help me and I ended up having to go to the nearby Staples and print out the coupon and bring it back to buy the food with my dog and entire family with me. I was so mad. It's not so much the printing as it is the dread of dealing with poor customer each time I go in. It took that manager more time to refuse to help me than to actually process the request given the fact 4 other we're waiting in line and something that should have taken 5 minutes took almost 20 minutes. read more

First bad experience was years ago when an assistant got a bird and once it had bitten her and drew blood on her finger she threw the bird into the box. I was about 16 and shy at the time so I wasn't really sure what to say.. this is closest pet store by us so I just took the bird home and didn't think much about it. A few months ago I wanted to add a couple of fish to my tank, I was looking at all the fish rather quietly but I wanted to know which fish got along with which so I had an employee help me out. I noticed one of the fish on the top rows acting really slow and wasn't moving much (at least compared to the other fish in it's tank) so I asked him if that fish was sick or something. He said "nope, not sick" and then he started knocking on all the fish tanks to prove to me they were all alive. It was sort of surreal because I don't know if I would get kicked out if I had told him to stop acting like a 2 year old, but it was disgusting behavior on his part and I don't think I will tolerate that from anyone in the future now because I felt torn for not saying anything when it happened. Since when is bashing on the glass window with a metal instrument a way to determine a fish's health? The worst part was that within weeks every single one of my previously healthy fish and both of the new fish were DEAD, this really upsets me because I had raised a whole family of Platys by myself and they were perfectly healthy for years up until my trip to Petco, nothing was different except for their diet and the two new fish. I don't know if they were sick or if the food I bought here was contaminated with something but I wouldn't trust them with my pets ever again. So fed up with these over-priced establishments and their under-educated staff and I won't return to this Petco or any other one for that matter. You guys are animal murderers. read more

After being ignored for 10-15 minutes in the fish department by an employee who was more interested in a conversation with another employee than to even greet me as I walked past her, I asked for help. Looking bothered she said she would send someone over. That someone was her. When she approached me looking bothered she said she would write down the fish I was interested in first. I told her that I was only interested in a couple of fish and that she probably didn't need to make a list but, That I did have one question about an angel fish and its compatibility with another species of fish I wanted. without answering my question she said if your tank is not 30 gallons its out of the question. I said fine because the tank I was going to put these 2 fish in was only 5 gallons. I told her what fish I wanted and she proceeded to ask me more questions. After answering a couple of questions I informed her that I've been coming to that store for years and never was questioned to that extent for a few $3 fish. She looked me like I was telling her a lie and refused to sell the fish I requested. I also informed her that I've had aquariums probably longer that she has been alive. But...She still kept asking questions and said that she would not sell me any fish! Not believing what I was hearing because I had bought a Tiger Oscar at the Mira Loma store for another tank I have a day earlier without hassle and received excellent service. (I was helped by a very friendly gal named Vanessa and another associate). I told her to call a manager and a gal named Sam shows up. So being upset at this point I tell her that her employee treated me very rudely. Her response was basically the same and she said to me..."I don't see what the big deal is and why you just cant answer her questions". I almost jumped out of my shoes! I was amazed how poor the customer service culture was in this store! She finally got me 2 fish and when I told her I wanted another she refused and began to walk away. When I asked her again she said If wouldn't answer the questions so she wouldn't sell me another fish. She then asked me what size my tank was and I told her the fish I wanted was going in a 10 gallon tank. The sales associate who wouldn't help me the first time said he told he had a 5 gallon tank! I told the manager that I also told her I had a few tanks. She said she would sell any other fish and walked away. She said I can call corporate but wouldn't give me a number. I had to call the Mira Loma store to get the customer service number. The manager I spoke with was very professional and apologized for them and offered to take care of me if I would be willing to go to his store in Mira Loma. I couldn't go that far so I thanked him for his help and went to the other big pet chain Petsmart because they were closer and they were happy to sell me what I asked for. In closing I am done with this store. Not that they care. I will maintain my 3 aquariums elsewhere! read more

I have been a customer for a very long time. I am in the store almost weekly. My most recent experience has been to say the least terrible. I returned a product I bought on line. Because I used paypal they gave me merchandise credit not a credit to my credit card. The item was approximately $150.00. I also returned some clippers and had a merchandise credit card with approximately $11.00. They said they could not add the clipper return to the card I already had. That card ended in 2423 Long story short when I paid for merchandise they used up the small credit from card ending in 2423 and deducted the rest from the card with $156.16 credit balance leaving a balance of $107.58 this card ended in 7079. When I went to use the merchandise credit card my next visit, the cashier told me I had a $0 balance. I told her that was not possible, because my last transaction the cashier stated that the balance was over $107.00. When I came home and looked at the receipt to see if I could identify the problem, the receipt identified the amount that was used on each card. The only card I had in my wallet was ending in 2423. The cashier said she could not do anything for me to call customer service. I spent 1/2 on line with someone named Julius, who I could barely understand, he promised someone would call in 24-48 hours, no one ever called back. I gathered my receipts and went to the store, I explained what I thought may have happened. The manager said she had to look into it, she called me a short while later, stated that she reviewed the video tape and stated that the cashier gave me both cards. Why would a cashier give you a card with $0 on it? When I asked to see the tape she said she had to check with loss prevention and she would get back to me, that was 5 days ago, she never called me back. Then I called the corporate office only to get directed to somewhere else outside of the US, to yet another person who does not speak clear English. Bottom line I am out $107.58 and they don't care. PERIOD What has happened to customer service??????? The receipt has all the information, can't they run the number to see that the card was not used, if in fact that they did give it to me? I think it is a shame that customer service in the United States has become such a JOKEl I will just go to Petsmart, maybe they treat you better there. Petco should be ashamed. Go elsewhere for grooming because this place does an okay job but they charge an insane amount of money. For what I ended up paying I could've probably just had a mobile groomer come to me!!! I have a tiny dog, 15 pounds at most, what on earth are they doing that's worth a hundred dollars on what should have been a simple wash and haircut??? This review is specifically for the grooming department, which is outstanding!!! We were loyal customers of Day's (Deirdre) when she had her own shop and followed her to Petco when we adopted 3 shelter/rescue dogs. She's the one who does all of our grooming, but all the folks there are good people. We are VERY particular about who we use as a groomer because these aren't just our dogs, they're our kids. Because we have rescue dogs, we worry about stress or traumatic experiences because they've been through enough. We've tried other groomers, but we just love the way Day treats our dogs. We normally go in on Sundays and it's usually Day, Sara and Ronnie in the grooming salon. These women are SO friendly and we love every interaction we have with them. We will usually visit with them for a few minutes and their professionalism mixed with their friendliness makes it a whole lot easier to drop my babies off for a few hours!! Our 3 dogs are all usually done within 3 hours, which I feel is a very good turn around time. The Petco prices are great and we get the petpals rewards, which is nice. If you want a little more details about my specific great experience with Day, please read on! Our husky mix, who is pretty much terrified of everything, would shake uncontrollably when we would bring him in the first few times. Day had amazing patience with him and has gotten him to the point where he'll even sit still and let her dry him, which we NEVER thought would happen. She had to start him out with cotton in his ears, a "happy hoodie" to block the noise and then slowly phased out each of those because he trusts her. Now he is completely okay with his trips to the groomer and is actually happy after his trip. Our Beagle is an older girl with only 3 functional legs. She's got a bit of an attitude and has been known to snap at the girls at the vet, but not the ladies at Petco grooming. She will let Day, Sara or Ronnie take her to the back without any issues. Day looks for any out of the ordinary things when she's grooming and alerted us to an issue with her bad paw that we were easily able to take care of because she took the time to notice. Our 3rd rescue is HUGE. He's 90 pounds at a year old and full of energy. He drags me most of the time I have his leash. I am amazed every time we go in that Day has NO issues getting him to the back and that she washes this beast with no problems. He loves getting dirty, so we're glad he likes his trips to see Day! I would highly recommend Day and this salon for any grooming needs, but especially your "special needs" cases. The caring she shows for the animals is outstanding!! read more

Man I wish pet stores would actually be good for pet owners, but that's not the case. What I noticed is a lot of products aren't good for dogs here as some toys aren't safe for them or or their products are just low quality and just marketed for dogs so people by it and some shady companies make money. This is extremely sad and disrespectful that companies make products that are potentially harmful for dogs. In addition I noticed a lot of dog foods, and treats that when doing research online had several reviews saying not safe for dogs because of the ingredients in them or being recalled for one reason or another. What a world we live in that whenever you guy somewhere and buy something for animals or something else you find a lot of bs products available that should just be band because of how cheap they are. Lastly just because you can open up a pet store or make pet products doesn't mean you should. Stop taking advantage of people who own dogs and want what's best for their best friend aka a dog. read more

I want to talk about Terrye. She was fantastic! It is so rare to find retail employees who are so knowledgeable and friendly. I had found a kitten, starving and covered with fleas, and she hooked me up! Wow! I was able to get what little Dollie needed, full on, at a great price, with coupons. She was so helpful, and she has made a fan of me. I am now sold on Petco, switching from Petsmart. Managers! You have a gem, there, and I will keep coming back for her. Outstanding! read more
