I returned a dog ramp that my (old) dog wasn't comfortable with. The very cordial lady at Petco was extremely accommodating & understanding of why I had to make the return. One small section of the ramp didn't fit back in the box (it's like Tetris), and it wasn't a problem. THANK YOU, PETCO!!!! read more

@petco do not take your dog to @petco the location in Dedham Massachusetts cut Madeline Rose in the face, paws, ears and private area. She has been coughing since being picked up making me believe she was held from the neck and handled roughly. Her haircut is nothing as we discussed with photos written instructions and a phone call from her previous groomer. When picked up Maddie who always is told how sweet and what a good girl she is was abruptly told she can't come back here. She pulls and I can't do big dogs (your profile says you handle dogs up to 70 pounds and Maddie is 57 on her heaviest day). I called @petco corporate and was given the typical call center response then they hung up on me and my return calls were unanswered. I'm hurt for my baby. She's in pain. Her last bad experience it took her several grooms to regain confidence. @petco how are you going to make this right? read more

The brand of food I find here at Petco is great it has helped my elderly cat become more active and slender

Unless you want an abusive relationship stay away from vetco. Our dog has frequent ear infections. We swing by to see if they could do anything (normal vet backed up). OTC was not available but they got us right in. Everything was good until the follow. In the meantime, I was hospitalized. I got the usual reminders and then a voice mail saying, "please confirm, or if not, we'll see you there." Cool. When I showed up with our dog and two toddlers, they threw us all out claiming the voice mail was actually a warning that I had better unhospitalize myself or else! We use a transcription service. They lied. Assuming this was a problematic clinic I escalated. Vetco has no appointments policy at all, and in the lurch, abusive employees have decided to attack customers who show up to their appointments as a way of getting back at those who don't. Abuse and ignorance are again something you would think corporate would want to fix? Nope, they are stuck somewhere in between wanting to acknowledge that this is wrong, but are too weak to correct their employees. The result was a lot of hemming and avoidance. When I escalated, the company responded by sending a goin squad to attack me on social media. Saying things like, "you aren't being nice enough to us when we abuse your toddlers," would be a great paraphrase example of their behavior. The employees that did engage were clearly off their rocker. Did you know that it's illegal to keep a card on file and charge for missed appointments? That is industry standard for no shows, perfectly legal, and when you point this out, it's just an excuse to flame the every living hell out of you. That though appears to be the point. The employee(s) is an abusive predator. He's looking to send you away with his 'power'. If you stand up? It's wrath, gaslighting, and lying. That is the service vetco offers. Corporate is well aware and their response to this was basically, "take down your reviews (another version of you aren't being nice enough to them)." Nope. These guys have been hiding reviews of this activity and people should absolutely know what they are walking into. There are other way of recovering damage. And they work. Vetco is supposed to be selling veterinary services, not rage. They are selling the later, beware. read more

On 8/11, I dropped Ollie off with a different groomer at Petco, Brittney (spelling?). To my shock, I received a call about an hour after I dropped him off saying that the service could not be completed because Ollie was biting her. This came as a surprise to me since this is not typical of his past experiences at Petco with a different groomer. Although I would never want Ollie to bite anyone, after picking him up, it seems that his aggression was due to the negligence of the Petco staff. - During drop off, they did their usual check for mats and during this time I was not informed of any mats on my dog. Brittney and I agreed that my dog would NOT Be shaved. - An hour later I received a voicemail that his service could not be continued due to his biting. - After I went to Petco to pick up my dog, I was informed that due to mats they were using clippers. Until that moment, clippers had never been used on Ollie. This led to his poor reaction. - I was also informed when I inquired, that he did NOT get a bath prior to his haircut. From my experience and the experience of my friends who also use Petco grooming, it is standard practice that dogs receive a bath before the haircut. This seems like proper and hygienic practice since the tools are likely shared among pets. - Immediately after, I went to another grooming location to see if they could fix my dog. They did not have appointments, but the employee thoroughly checked through his coat and shared that he was NOT matted and his neck shave was not necessary. There are 2 headlines from this awful experience that I'd like to share: 1. If Ollie was matted and needed to be shaved down, I should have received a phone call first to inform me of this change. This is poor communication, dishonesty, and/or both. 2. I asked for my dog to NOT be shaved. He was shaved. I would love to continue using Petco grooming based on my previous experience, but I would like assurance that this will NEVER happen again. I took my 5 month old puppy for a haircut and bath. I was told he was vicious, peed and didn't like the clippers. He is a puppy and not vicious Brittney told me he was banned from coming back after being charged 68 dollars. Horrible horrible e experience and don't go to Brittney! read more

Petco, it's where the pets go. This store has everything for pets of all types and a huge selection. Their grooming department was great to work with and they did a wonderful job! We have a miniature long haired Dauschund and the grooming they gave her was wonderful. She came back smooth, silky, and happy with two cute bows. read more

They made racist remarks towards me, and when I called and told them about it they told me that their workers would never do anything like that and hung up on me. Took my daughter to see what kind of fish they carry as we're in the process of setting up an aquarium. Several of the tanks looked over crowded and several had more than one dead fish. I could see some of the fish in at least one of the tanks gasping and unable to breathe properly. To top it all off, there was a dead fish on the floor well within my 2 year old's view and reach. I would not recommend buying fish from this location. read more

My dog has terrible anxiety so I wanted to book with a pet groomer that he'd enjoy to get haircuts from regularly. The last two times I took him this year, 2022 he's come back with bumps and recently has come home to a big red rash on his private parts- Now I understand if it could've been an allergy, that's what the pet groomer informed me but I spoke to another groomer from a different place and they confirmed that it was from a poor razor. I don't know the if the place reuses tools, one thing I can confirm is that my pet does not enjoy this place (he's very afraid of entering the place) and he's been in pain for several days from this thus I will not be returning. I definitely do not recommend coming here for grooming. The staff were utterly unable to deal with a dog who gets nervous about being groomed as so many do. It's worth paying more at a local business with more compassionate and knowledgeable groomers. At this location, they're clearly only interested in moving through services as quickly as possible and not actually caring for the animals. read more

I am so disappointed with the grooming service they provided. I brought my dog for a bath. First of all, the lady at the counter was not friendly, she ignored me when I came in, and only after a couple of minutes finally decided to talk to me. After that, I told her that I needed a bath and a trim for my dog. And she rudely rejected my request. She said that they do not have time to do a haircut for my dog, however, I did not ask for a haircut I asked for a trim. In another Petco location, the guy always does a service I ask him for. And he is working there by himself, at this location there are like four people working and they do not have time to do a trim! They do not care about customers' satisfaction. When I picked up my dog, she was shedding as crazy! It never happened when I brought her to another Petco location. They did not do anything to my dog, they just washed her, they did not even brush her I assume since her hair was everywhere. I will never come back to this place! read more

Upon looking at their pet Rat's for sale, I was sadden to see a FILTHY enclosure. One that you can tell is never properly cleaned, simply just a quick change of bedding daily if that. There was rat feces all over the glass of the enclosure, and each rats tails were embedded with fecal matter. One rat even appeared to have mange on its head, probably due to irritation from such a dirty enclosure. This statement unfortunately is true for each animal habitat there. From hamsters, to guinea pigs, to ferrets, to mice. The ferret enclosure had none of the enrichment or supplies a ferret needs. Simply two plastic huts. Nothing to burrow, nothing to keep them secure. Just a filthy cage, with fecal matter & bedding in the ferret's food bowl as well. The state this Petco is keeping all of their animals in is horrendous. You would think the employees would care the slightest, they don't.. No animal should live in these conditions, especially not in ones awaiting a forever home. Do better Petco. read more

Most of the time when I stop into this particular store it smells like animal urine and #2's, I find what I need as efficient as possible and then try and check out. Unfortunately I spend half my time or more just trying to check out at this store as many of the front end staff desperately need training or retraining even though it's the same staff for about at least a year and no real improvement on skills improvement. There is also a lack of management to call to the front of the store or to call on the phone as you will be guaranteed a 20+ minute wait time on the phone. Would recommend going to one of the other locations. read more

I scheduled a grooming appointment online for my German Shepherd. Extremely convenient. We brought him today and it turns out it was actually the wrong day. They were still able to fit him in for a grooming anyways! When we picked him up he looked great! Clean, shiny, and nails are perfect! He smells so good too! They also gave him a bag of goodies to go. We have only had him a few months and had a terrible experience at the first groomer we brought him to. I am extremely impressed with the care and treatment he received. We will definitely go there from now on. read more

Made a grooming appointment a month in advance and then they cancelled a couple days before the appointment. Didn't even call just sent an automated text saying it had been cancelled when I had just confirmed the day before and when I tried calling the store it was just a robot saying make an appointment online. They're definitely a big business since they treat their customers as irrelevant. Definitely would not recommend. Very annoying and disappointed. Now I have to wait another month to go to a different dog groomer. read more

The Dedham Petco is amazing. Really. It is. It's SO clean and always organized for the old store it is. Floors and interior don't show too much signs of use, and the store is never too busy and always has a great selection (they ALWAYS have what I'm looking for!). The staff are all so friendly and always keep enough cash registers open and have on-floor associates to help customers. Price scanners consistently work and have working labels for your items.They accept competitor coupons as well as survey coupons (that the Norwood Petco didn't!). And it's SO much better than the DIRTY Norwood Petco. Parking lot is small, yet works fine since this place is never too crowded. Great Petco and one of the best stores. Highly suggested. Located on Providence Highway Northbound towards Boston. Also accessible via Mah Way from Eastern Avenue. read more

Alex in the retail area was EXTREMELY helpful! After an unfortunate loss of my chinchilla, I went in to get a friend for my other chin, as he was quite depressed, and I had no luck finding a male chinchilla from adoption avenues, which is always my first choice. She was very confident in handling the chinchillas, and helpful in letting me examine them and make sure he was actually another male. Chinchillas are quick and delicate, and her confidence was very much appreciated! She was also very knowledgable about chinchilla care, and I have found in my years of owning exotics there is a lot of misinformation from pet store employees. I had trouble transferring money and was on the phone with the bank for a minute, and she was sweet and patient while I sorted out the bank confusion. She was also kind and delightful, chatting and joking with us about her pet bird. Alex, if you see this, Willy is getting along fantastic with my new chinchilla, who we have named Beachball because he is such a BIG boy! I am so happy and I am so grateful for your help in finding my boy a new friend in our time of grieving. read more

I don't know if I should be Yelping about this since it is such a great secret. Pectco has do it yourself pooch washing for 15 bucks on Saturday and Sunday. They supply the shampoo, towels, drying fans, and the clean up. You show up with man/woman's best friend to a clean and user friendly set up. And they even clipped Nina's toe nails for free. Even better the $15 goes to charity. Please don't tell too many people, Nina like a quiet bubble bath. read more

Just to be clear here, I'm not writing a full review of the store, I'm writing this in favor of their dog trainer. A few words of advice though - don't be turned off by the rest of the staffs incompetence when you are signing your pooch up for their program. The on-staff trainer actually has a degree in Animal Psych from Tufts so she's legit, and she comes at a bargain for only $100 for 6 sessions. So go ahead and sign up! Its okay! read more

All I can say is NEVER AGAIN. I took my pooch in for grooming. The one star is because they actually did a fair job on her face, but the rest of her looked terrible. I couldn't tell right away how bad the cut was, because my dog was so excited to be getting out of there, I couldn't keep her still long enough to inspect her properly. Once we were home, and she had calmed down some, I wanted to cry. She looked so scraggly and pathetic (like one of those dogs in the homeless dog shelters ads) . I can't wait for her hair to grow back so I can take her to a real professional groomer, rather than a doggy super cuts overpriced at $69. read more

This review is for their grooming service. Alex is absolutely incredible and took such great care of our fearful rescue dog Jessie who's a German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix. Alex listened and understood our concerns with Jessie; she has a rescue dog herself so she understood Jessie's backstory. She took her time grooming at Jessie's pace and made adjustments to make sure she was comfortable and had a great experience. When we arrived to pick her up, I couldn't believe how happy Jessie was! They usually have what I've gone in for -- but man if the kids who work here aren't the most miserable looking people on earth. Sure, they'll help you, after you ask two or three times, but they'll look like they want to rip your head off the entire time. If you need something that's up high and requires a ladder, do yourself a favor and just go up to the register and ask. They'll page someone. Trying to find an actual employee around the store is near impossible, even on a weekend when they should be well staffed. I only go here in an emergency. read more

Just took my dog in for a quick nail trim and Wendy in the grooming salon was awesome. She completed trimming my dogs nails in less than 5 minutes (takes me almost 30 min at home!) and my pup was happy and calm as could be. I'm looking forward to taking him in again and I don't think he'll mind either! read more

Just got a new puppy, and this place is super close to our place for last minute supplies. The two downsides of this store is the lack of stock for a lot of items. I've been in here 3 times in the last week, and a lot of things are still sold out, not priced or hard to find in a basic store setup. I will give them props for the nice cashier that I have had a few times. She was super friendly and even told me about their new pet packets. I got a ton of coupons and a free tote for all my new dog goodies. I can say if you want a bigger store with more selection, go to Westwood. If you're in a pinch for time and HOPE they have it in stock, then stop in here. read more

I don't often write reviews on yelp, but had a particularly great experience here on Saturday and want to make sure it is noted! I came in on Saturday, hoping to get my kitten's nails trimmed, but the grooming center here does not service cats. However, Melissa from the retail part of the store was EXTREMELY helpful and showed me how to trim my kitten's nails at home. Melissa answered all of my MANY questions (new kitten owner, previously owned dogs) with patience and enthusiasm. Melissa gave me many tips and helped me identify ideal items for my kitten within my price range. I checked out with Chris, who was also very friendly. It's nice to go to a pet store where the staff are knowledgeable and happy to help! I'll be back to see Melissa for sure! read more

I do not recommend going to this Petco!!! THEY ARE RACIST!!! My mother is a sweet Christian lady and went to get some medicine for our fish. The manage of this Petco her name is Alexandra treated my mother terribly. My mother asked for help and Alexandra the manage completely ignored my mother and helped all the white customers first. She then pet a dog and with the medicine in her hand and the dog licked it. After that she intended to give it to my mother. My mother kindly asked to get a different one because the dog licked it and she was rude and kicked my mother out of the store just because of that and threatens to call security. This is not okay!!!! I was in the car waiting for my mother and she comes crying to me. I got out of the car and went in the store to get the medicine. Because I look white I was treated with respect. After I bought the medicine I made sure I got the name of the manage who had treated my mother terribly to complain. This Petco is so great. Chris the trainer is amazing and dedicated. I have the best experience with the groomers. My dogs race to go in. They are so loving and they really care about your pets. I have taken classes there, had my dogs groomed and go to the pet clinic they have. It's really a great Petco. It doesn't feel like a big chain when you are a regular. I only give it this review because two of the employees said that they didn't carry the instant shampoo for small animals, which they ADVERTISED on their website and sold in stores. They were so sure and stern about it too. And you know what I find the same day? The instant shampoo I was looking for. But the kicker was how rude they were about why I shouldn't use it. They literally tried to discourage me from buying it. I've had my Guinea pigs for 4yrs now and I've used that instant shampoo so many times to make them smell good because they can't get baths. And I literally explained that it's a simple one two spritz and they STILL tried to say it was bad for them and not to use it at all. Now had they came out a different way then it would not have bothered me but they were EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. I wish I had caught their names to report them properly but that got under my skin. But other than that the other staff is friendly and the store always has what I need for my guinea pigs. read more

Just got my dogs nails trimmed there after my vet told me he would need to be sedated to have his nails trimmed. They assured me my dog was normal and his nails were trimmed in under 2 minutes without any issue. Friendly and fast service. read more
