Let me first say that my experience with the employees at this location has been nothing but positive. They have been so kind and helpful. But I can tell they are saddled with working for a corporation that could give a rats a** about their customers or staff. The prices continue to rise on everything while they reduce the benefits of purchasing things like food and grooming packages. Pay more, get less. You're seriously going to charge me ten cents for every bag I need to cart out what I bought from you? Who in this country does that? That's a kick in the face. If you're losing that much money that you have to start charging for plastic bags maybe someone needs to start looking at the things from the top down. The store is clean and well organized. This was our first time taking koda. I didn't ask for a shorkie haircut, just a short one for everything to grow back even and they did a great job. They brushed his teeth and cut his nails too. He was quite handsome. They groomers were all so nice and attentive to koda! That meant the most to me. read more

I had to have my puppy groomed for the first time. I was nervous because he has razor sharp puppy teeth and is not afraid to use them when necessary. He also holds still for about a nano second and I could see the razor cutting off things it shouldn't. I'm happy to announce though everyone lived and they even said I could bring him back. Pet store # 5 for the weekend. My daughter's beta didn't make it through the weekend and she wanted a new friend. Here is where she found her new friend. They had one of the largest selections of beta fish. And the selection of "other" fish was pretty impressive. The young man working in the fish section was very knowledgeable and very patient with my daughter and her line up of potential new fish. When my daughter final found "the one" he also helped select tears and food for her buddy. The other employees we encountered we very helpful and friendly. Over all a pleasant experience. read more

After having an extremely awful experience with the sugar house location, I just have to put down a good review for the draper location. Serious animal abuse in other locations especially towards fish but I believe the Draper location has someone in management who is in the aquarium hobby. Tanks are always clean, never seen any dead fish, fish that are supposed to be colorful actually are, never seen diseased fish. They carry some better quality products as well, such as Waterbox aquariums. I've seen a few different clear mini sizes but at this location ONLY. Top quality in terms of actual glass tanks. The bottled products are always clean and within the correct dates rather than expired or poorly stored and handled. Plants are in clear water with no signs of decay. To be five stars are 100% because of Sophia. I come to this location every week to grab crickets for our leopard gecko, Bella, and Sophia goes above & beyond to be happy and helpful. On occasion, I won't have the pleasure of working with her when I stop by, and when that's the case my experience is typically a three-star or less. Sophia should get a raise. This pertains to the grooming department only. We have used the grooming department several times, in fact this incident occurred on our "free" bath/grooming due to it being our eight appointment. We made an appointment for 11:00 Friday. They text at 0810 stating that we'd needed to reschedule bc our groomer didn't show up. We rescheduled online for Wednesday at 1:00. At 1:50 Friday they text saying they can get Annie in at noon Saturday, we accept the appointment and cancel the Wednesday appointment. I get called into the hospital for an emergency and my wife takes Annie and arrives 10 minutes late. By this time, Sarah, the "manager" texts me that we are late. My wife states that Sarah was extremely rude about her being late, quoted a 15 minute late policy (it was only 10 minutes) and that she had to call her babysitter to see if she could stay late bc we were 10 minutes late getting there. She said she wouldn't have time and they would have to leave bc someone called in today too. . She then said she would groom Annie. How unprofessional! It's not your customers fault that your staff is so undependable and to talk this way to them. Sarah was a total bitch to my wife. Did we get this treatment bc it was our free grooming?? The real kicker to this is Annie looks ridiculous and was butchered. Annie is an Aussie than we have her cut down for the hot summer. Sarah "the Manager" basically shaved Annie's head. Being mad at us is bad enough but to take it out on our 12 year old dog is pathetic. IF we use this Petco groomer again, we will stipulate that Serene or Mark take care of our 5 dogs bc they have been very professional and sweet to our pups. I went in to pick up an order this morning and I stood around for 10 min looking for someone to help me. Couldn't find anyone so I began to walk around the store to see if they were busy doing something. I came across an older lady who was feeding the reptiles and I asked her for some help in picking up my order. She proceeded to stare at me for 10 seconds not saying anything, then said "well I'm working back here" so I asked if she wasn't able to help me and she said she was busy. So I asked if she worked there and she said "yes obviously I do" which prompted me to ask then why can't she help me since she was the only person in there. She told me to go find the manager who is probably in the office to help me!! Are you kidding me!? Great customer service is all I said as I walked to find someone else. Finally came across another young lady and she helped me out right away. She was very nice and I would have given only 1 Star if not for her. But you can't have customer service like that. This was Zoes very first haircut and she looks so great!! When I picked her up after her appointment (which took exactly two hours,the time they told me it would take) She was bouncy and happy with a cute little bow in her hair! Jackie did her groom (Sorry if I spelled that wrong) and we will definitely be back! She made my lil mutt look like a high class dog! Went to exchange some sweaters, purchased for my dogs and had a horrible experience! I was told by the cashier Alanna, that I needed to fill out personal information in order to continue with an exchange transaction. Needless to say I a little Leary giving out my personal home address, so I denied her request to comply with their policies. The cashier was quite rude and the manager had to explain to her that since I had a petco card, I did not need to provide that information, the cashier was certain I did! When I briefly spoke to the manager, I explained to the manager that employees should not be allowed to argue with customers, the managers reply was "yeah well...." and I again corrected her lack of actions stating that employees should not be allowed to argue with customers!!! Initially while checking out, the cashier was Overly explaining how their return policy worked and asked me to NOT remove any of the tags off the product if I planned on returning them, that it made her job much harder. Mind you, I had not planned on returning the items, so I had removed the tags, however, the tags were still in tact in the bag. The customer service at this store really sucked and the interpersonal skills lack majorly! I would suggest to corporate to do some more advanced training with all employees, including management! I spend a ton of money in this store and Now you will no longer have my business due to this experience. Also, because originally I bought bigger sizes of dog sweaters, I had to exchange them for smaller sizes, I was also told I could not get back the money that I originally spent and that smaller sizes cost less so I would only get in store credit for the remaining amount. So I'm out $10.00 and only got a $10.00 credit on a card! Pet Smart is a much better store, the customer service is way more professional! I'll continue shopping there from now on. I give this rating a three because I don't know what the rest is like. It seems well stocked with lots of options. However, they miss the last two stars because I was really disappointed in their Aquarium selection, specifically the fish. Literally every single tank was mislabeled with the fish that were inside. None of the labels were even close! The only reason I knew what they were was because I've done my research and have been learning over the last couple months. Their fish look healthy enough, though I feel bad for them. It's hard to buy a fish when they're mislabeled and no one was at the station to even answer questions. I understand if they're low staffed. But they didn't need two people at the cash register. One associate was playing on their phone and totally could've been in the aquarium section. I also would have appreciated needed tank sizes for each fish. Their labels had lifespan, type, and if they're a community fish or more aggressive. But nothing on tank sizes. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for your fish needs. Yes, those fish need homes. But be prepared to go looking for someone to answer questions or assist you. read more

I recently purchased a male beta fish from a different Petco location in Utah County area. Most Utah county locations close at 8 PM, but Salt Lake County Petcos are open until nine (depending on the area). I walked into the store about 30 minutes before close because the Orem location was not open when I had went so I drove to draper. I was returning a my betta fishy's heater that did not work out for my tank. I approached Bailee and she was so kind and helpful giving me store credit for my return. Then I got help from another Petco associate for finding the proper fish heater and she was kind to me as well. It was just refreshing to have workers be kind to me even though I was asking questions right before the store was going to close. I ended up purchasing a different fish tank while being there because the lady in the fish dep. was so kind by helping pick a new heater for my fishy. Once I checked out, Bailee price matched all my item with Petco online products and made sure I was taken care of. My sons first fish helped him get through grad school. We have always done mother-son dates here, but this time I surprised him and let him pick out his own fish. The workers helped shape my son to who he is today. He wants to be a worker at an aquarium. It doesn't matter where. Maybe even petco! The worker was patient with how excited he got. Discounted stuff is in the wrong locations, cashiers who are sick are wiping their noses then handling goods, sales people are standoffish... if you don't want to work there, find another job!! This is the 3rd time I've visited this store for my pets, and each time has gotten worse. I figured I'd give it the "3 strikes and you're out" treatment. If I had the option I would give it zero stars. Today we got our two dogs groomed, one of them was very matted and they said they had to shave her, which was totally fine. On the other hand I got a text about an hour into the two of their haircuts and she said that our other dogs tail was tangled and she asked to shave it and if that was ok, I immediately responded and told her that she can leave it, an hour and a half later she claimed to just said received that text and said that she had gone ahead and shaved it anyways, not respecting my decision on weather or not to do that. All around just very rude and lazy, not wanting to brush out my dogs tail so she just shaves it off to save her the hassle. Another thing is that we brought in our other dog a while ago and they cut her ear enough to where that had to go to the emergency animal clinic and get her ear stitched because they had cut so deep. I went in to buy 36 cent gold fish. I am old enough to take care of one but not old enough to buy one, so I brought my aunt to get me one. The sales lady came and proceeded to lecture me about tank size and feeding. I'm fine with telling me one how to take care and what I need to do but she did it in a way that made me and my aunt very uncomfortable. I will not be shopping there ever again. I will go to some place else to get 36 cent fish that they sell to people to feed other fish. read more

Super Not Impressed. We have a barely 11 lbs poodle mix that is 2.5, he is groomed every 8 weeks. We weren't able to make it to our usual groomer that lives out of town so we made an appointment here for Sunday the 10th. When we dropped him off they said it would be 45 minutes- 3.5 hours. Which is quite the range. 2 hours after we dropped him off I get a call saying our dog bit the groomer 20 minutes after we dropped him off when they were putting him into a kennel. They said they called both my husband and I and left messages saying to pick him up ASAP because they couldn't groom him. I had no missed calls, my husband had one but not message. And they didn't try back for another 1.5+ hours. We pick him up and his is 1/2 shaved to like nothing, which we definitely didn't ask for. We asked for 1/2 the length to be cut off and we were told it was when they were initially putting him in the kennel. What they did do looks like crap and it is literally just his back and face. We have a toddler who loves our dog and pets him 24/7, rough houses with him and has been known to pull both his tail and ears. He's never even nipped at her, let alone bit her. He also goes through this every 8 weeks so it isn't anything new to him. Since picking him up he is extremely skittish and cries every time we try to pet him, he has been throwing up and having accidents- which he doesn't do. I don't know what they did to him but we will definitely never be going back. read more

I bought a bed, food bowls, food and a collar online and when they came I noticed the bed had a couple stains on it. The collar turned out to be too small for my new puppy so I decided to return the bed and collar. I printed out the Returns to Store Receipt to make the return and the gentleman at the checkout counter was very impressed I brought it instead of just the regular receipt as others do. For some reason however, the bed was missing from the form. The gentleman was able to find the info he needed from the regular receipt and put everything back on my card. I had a gift card so I bought two new beds. The store is fairly clean with plenty of wipes for doggy messes. Friendly staff who gave my puppy a treat at the check out counter. This is a complaint against VETCO. Petco houses this horrid "service" where they give cheap vaccines at different Petcos. I have tried to contact Vetco through email, facebook, and telephone. I have gotten no where. First, I noticed that the "vet" had his hands all over the dog's mouth that was before us. He drew blood as well from the dog that was being seen before us. Then I noticed that as he was holding my little Bichon down for an injection, that this so-called vet had blood all over his thumb from the blood draw on the other dog. I told him he needed to wash his hands because he had blood all over his thumb. He said nothing. He just went and rubbed his hands with hand sanitizer. He never spoke a word to me. Then I realized he had his hands all into my dog's mouth prior to the injection. I was absolutely furious. When I tried to get hold of VETCO through email messages, facebook, and phone, I got absolutely no response. I tried to phone them through Petco and they said they would have a VETCO manager personally call me. That was about a month ago. I asked if they were even vets who show up for this "service" to give vaccines. They told me they were "volunteers". What the HE***! does that mean!? THEN about 3 weeks later after my dog was injected with the rabies vaccine, he lost his hair across the entire injection site, completely. Other vets tell me it will never grow back. It has been three months and he has not gotten any hair back at all. I am absolutely furious with this so called "company" and I am considering suing them for negligence. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of horrible customer service and unprofessionalism. I will no longer frequent Petco because they are housing this horrible company. read more

Just had my Assie-doodle in to be groomed. What a disaster!! First, groomer was half hour late for the 1st appointment. Second, our instructions were simple. We wanted him cut with 1-inch guard everywhere. He looks awful. They shaved the top of his nose and left the hair on the side of his face longer than the rest of the body. Only good news is that his hair grows fast enough that in 4 weeks this really bad haircut will be gone. We will be attempting to fix this somewhere else. Don't think Petco will get any of my business for anything moving forward. read more
