It was highly convenient for the residents of El Monte to have this Petco. I've been sourcing my pet supplies from this location since 2016. As my visits became more frequent (due to the population boom of stray cats in my neighborhood), the Petco team began to recognize me. One of the team members, Lushun, began to deduce that I've been taking care of newborn stray kittens outside, since I picked up cat milk on a few occasions. We struck up a casual conversation here and there. The 3rd time I picked up cat milk, Lushun offered to donate 2 toys for me to provide to the kittens, and it was a pleasant surprise. Although I'd already known that this Petco team loves their work based on my observations of the dog training, grooming, and customer service they offered, I definitely did not expect this personalized touch. Terrible service!!! We have a baby frenchie that is only 15 weeks old, we went to buy her shampoo and NO ONE is knowledgeable about what we need!! First chick said "it doesn't matter" the next guy said "ask the groomer" ok we're getting somewhere now. I asked the groomer she tells me "you can grab that yellow bottle" so I look at and it has FRAGRANCE !!!! I was told by our seller that Frenchies have very sensitive skin and they need a special shampoo. How do these people work at pet store and not know ?!?!?! So frustrating!!! read more

I come to this store often for my aquarium supplies, and to get snacks for my guinea pigs. I always enjoy looking at the pet displays. The animals seem really happy and very well taken care of. Their cages are always very clean, and there's always new and very interesting aquatic species to check out. Someday I'd really like to set up a glow tank. They've got a great selection of glow fish. The staff seems really friendly, the big guy in charge of the animals was really helpful. My guinea pigs are happier because I shop there! read more

The three stars all go to the groomers! They are awesome, namely, Naomi and Stephanie. Super sweet and great customer service. The two missing stars are to the store. It's really hard to find anyone on the floors to help me out with anything. I think there should be more staff working the floors and registers. Prices are not the cheapest either. Decided to give petco grooming a second try after our last appointment our Groomer forgot to show up I was offered a discount for the grooming session but never received the discount, so I made an appointment for 9am on a Sunday and arrive at 845 am no Groomer in sight. I think it's fine because I'm early, 915 rolls around and im told the Groomer won't be in. Thanks for wasting 30 minutes of my time. I have been going to this Petco location since it opened and never have had an issue until tonight 8/16/2017 and employee by the name Zachary was unbelievably RUDE to my family and myself. The store announced it was closing in 5 minutes. Zachary came up to my parents and said in the rudest way possible said "We are Closed". So we then start to head to the exit upset that he yelled at us. then as my father exchanges words with another employee about Zachary's behavior, he yells out F#@k that I'm tired of this crap have a great night. I am greatly disappointed in the grooming service provided to our 1 and a half year Yorkie. We had went to this Petco for 3 visits and each visit got worse. Originally, we were told that our Yorkie was super nervous and not cooperative to the machines' noises, so we began using a massager on her to get her use to the buzzing noise. However, on our last visit, Tammie/Tammy seemed annoyed when we picked our Yorkie up. She explained that our Yorkie tried to bite her and warned us it would be our last time if our Yorkie didn't get use to the clippers. When we got our Yorkie back, she was shivering and had poop stuck to her tail. She has never been that scared or ever bitten anyone (as we had trained her not to)! On top of that, her nails weren't trimmed. We recently just took her to other grooming center and watched from afar (out of our Yorkie's view) to see how she reacted. The groomer was very caring and was able to trim her nails quickly. read more

I always go to this petco ever since it opened for my hamster and dog needs and I have to say the hamster area with all the toys and knick knacks are limited, I went to another petco in chino hills they have more toys and items for your pets. But even so, this is the place I go to for my furry friends, their staff is nice, although the they are hard to track down. This review is also for the grooming service, it was my first time taking my dog almond there and the person who was there was really friendly and happy and attentive. When I went to pick up my dog which took about 2 hours, she said the service was free since she accidentally cut almonds skin as she was clipping her nails and it bled. I wasn't mad or upset because it happens, if I did it I would've done the same. She apologized, and told me how to care for it. I was just glad she didn't try to sugar coat the whole situation. My dog seemed happy and she was fine, the trim and wash my dog had came out so beautiful. Aside from the incident, I will definitely come back. A $57 service was free, but I gave the gal $15 tip for honesty. read more

I have to take a moment and share all the love my family and I have for Ms. Naomi! She and her staff are "first class" in their service and most importantly, their love for the little ones they are entrusted with. We have been taking our "Paw Babies" to her for a while now. Bella and Ginger always get treated like royalty. They get lots of hugs, love, and, more hugs. It is hard to find others who truly understand that love we have for our pets and knowing that Naomi and her staff love and care for the animals the way that they do is a blessing. I HIGHLY recommend bringing in your little ones for a day at the "pup spa" to visit Naomi and her team. They will be loved, and they will be treated with lots of care. I've been inside this location twice ever and when I'm able to pick up my order it will be the last. Placed my order online this morning. Arrived before curfew to pick up my order only to find out they are closed due to a power outage. Not their fault. Also not their fault I waited until my cat was on her last can of food before I purchased more. But when 2 employees came to the door I thought I got lucky and my cat can have her food. Only to be told I couldn't take my order as the power outage makes them unable to confirm my order. Well, luckily we live in the age of smartphones where I can pull my order right up and these neato government issued things called drivers licenses can verify my identity right? ...No. Apparently the power outage makes them illiterate? And I'd be inclined to be understanding if they just HAD to scan something but literally every order I've placed online to pick up in store has been accompanied by a paper slip filled in by hand with the name and order number. Which again, can be cross checked with the order confirmation, and my ID. But not if the power is out!! Maybe they need the extra lighting to be able to read. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll be picking up from Montebello from now until I am no longer holding a grudge against this location. read more

This has been my go to Petco store ever since they've open. I have brought everything I needed for my pets here, but I will no longer be coming here. Last month, I brought an automatic cat litter box and now it malfunction and I want to return, but I don't have a receipt. Usually they'll give you store credit or an exchange, nope they won't. When buying this product, I even asked the cashier that if I'm not satisfied with the product can I bring it in to return and she said "Just bring it in and we'll gladly return it for you." I didn't get her name unfortunately. Supposedly, this item is part of the exclusion of the returning policy. THEY DON'T HONOR THEIR POLICIES. Definitely will not be coming back, so disappointed. (Update) I went to other Petco and they allowed the return for store credit or exchange. I even called Petco's customer service and the representative told me it's "manager's choice if he wants to let me return." read more

This petco is pretty clean compare to the other one I went to. Also curb side pick up is some what Convenient during COVID 19 just need to order online and pick up when you're ready. Takes a couple minutes for them to bring it out tho but I understand. However gave it 3 store cause grooming here is SO SO and kinda bad. My dog had some cuts after grooming here and nails were still sharp tho I did ask for nail trims. Also they shaved my dog to much (completely not want I wanted) But staffs r pretty nice. read more

I've never been to Petco where it was just dirty! I felt so sad for the fish! There was all this Algae in the fish tanks! There was 2 dead fish in one tank another dead fish that other fish were picking at and the fish was like almost in half and when I told the lady she said oh must've died today, I know fish can die fast but take them out it's your job at Petco and clean the tanks! I have always had a preference shopping at Petsmart; better sales, deals, more selection and the employees are always amazing. One day I needed a last minute thing and didn't feel like driving to West Covina, so I decided to go to Petco and "pay more". A manager had told me (in December) that for future reference; they priced match Petsmart in store and online. They also priced match the online price on their website and I could use Petsmart coupons in their store. So of course that definitely caught my attention. That the same thing I would do in West Covina Petsmart; I could now do in my own city. So I been buying there since December without an issue; and the staff have always been nice enough to honor the pricing. I even went a week ago to buy some water filters for my water fountain. The associate who helped me out; was more than kind to honor me the petco.com price. Except today being at West Covina; I stopped at the Petco by the Plaza and bought some kitten food. The Wellness food bag was on sale on their website and the associate was kind enough to honor the price + even told us that if our kitty didn't like the food we could return with receipt. (A complete first!) It wasn't until later that evening that I noticed I forgot to buy dog food; so I went to the El Monte location and my sister found the food bag she needed + on sale on their website. When we were at the register to pay; an employee by the name of Jason was ringing us up. When we mentioned the price difference; rather than being helpful he began "lecturing us" about pricing; El Monte location loosing money; and they can't do it unless it's items over $100. Now he began "lecturing" us with a strong sort of yelling tone. No thank you for choosing petco; did anyone help you, what's your phone number, find everything ok thing. NONE. Straight to lecturing us about how he can't honor the online price because the website pays no one money so their prices are lower than in store. This lecture continued on with the same strong tone voice (as if we are being yelled at) for about 3 minutes. I made it pretty clear I wasn't interest in his lecture; and I even told him how I was at Petco in WC buying kitten food and the associate honored the price. Round #2 of lecture continued. I tell him very kindly; in this case I rather stick to Petsmart then. That was the whole point I had "switched" stores. He continues to tell us he can price match Petsmart online and in store price....but can't do Petco online. Well that seems stupid. I didn't care for the price match anymore. I was more annoyed with his lack of professionalism and tone of voice. read more

Please don't put your pet at risk, they poked my dog eye, and they did not do the grooming!! I brought my medium size Nova Scotia Retriever and about 45 minutes later, I got a call from the groomer saying that my dog was bleeding from his eye, and because that she had stopped the grooming. When I got there, the girl said that she didn't do the dog hair but that she had done everything else and that I had to pay $36 for it. By the time I paid, they had managed to stop the bleeding of his eye, but once I got home I noticed he was bleeding again, and now he hardly can open his eye (red and swollen) on top of that I noticed they never cleaned his ears. I was appreciative that they cut his nail but I guess nothing else. They used to have a great groomer named Naomy but I guess she does not longer work there and I just can't trust them anymore so Petco El Monte never again!! read more

New store wanted try it out. Reptile specialist with a beard was very knowledgable. Help me understand my turtle and how I needed to prepare CORRECTLY for my next turtle. Usually feels like retail chains try to push sales regardless if it's right. I felt the turtles safety was thought of here and will definitely be going here for any questions and needs I will have. Also brought my dog Manotas to the groomers. Price was very reasonable compared to other places I shopped. Mayra C took great care of my dog. I come here for quick aquarium supplies, etc.. and my son loves to come with me to look at the fish and reptiles. I like coming here and it's usually super quick and they have what I need. Parking is easy and staff seems friendly for the most part. Although I did have a weird experience with a cashier once. Two registers were open and about 6 people in line including myself. The cashier checked the guy out in front of me and I set my items on the counter to pay and he shut the register off and just walked out the door without saying anything like he quit on the spot or something. The cashier next to him apologized to me and checked me out with no problems, but i've never seen someone do that before. We don't ever see the guy anymore so I'm guessing maybe he did quit lol read more

Very nice and clean place. I was amazed by the variety of fishes and reptiles they had. The animals also looked happier and in better conditions compared to other competitor pet stores I've been to. My only complaint is the lack of knowledge and professionalism with their employees. I went on a Friday night and they only had one guy working at the cashier. The employee was having a hard time trying to do a refund, and had to call a manager up for help. While that was happening a line was starting to form. He did not seem to take notice of this, or either ignored it. It was quite a frustrating wait. Went to this location today to pick up the cardboard pet carrier for a cat and I was surprised how clean and good smelling store this was very neat and well stocked. However there was lacking in customer service I passed employees and no acknowledgement or asked if I needed help which I did after wondering around for 20 mins in an unbusy store. I just could not find anyone to help me until I went up to the register to ask a clerk to call someone.
