Disappointed by Misleading "Walk‐In" Policy & Poor Customer Service I took my dog to this shop expecting a simple nail-filling service, after speaking on the phone and being told "no appointments necessary"--so we drove over right away. Once there, staff said they couldn't do it because they "didn't have time / enough staff," despite the promise of walk-ins. We were asked to wait 20 minutes. After waiting, we left and went to another facility that was willing to help immediately. This was the first time I've had a negative experience here; up until now we'd been happy and continued to bring them business. I hope they improve their communication and consistency, so other customers don't go through what we did. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. Of all the times I've gone to Petco, I'll say this: their cages for hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, etc. have never been the cleanest. I've seen mice laying in piles of feces and ferrets chasing flies in their enclosure. Sadly, that seems to be the new normal for big-chain pet stores. Today, though, was different -- and it really rubbed me the wrong way. My boyfriend and I stopped in to buy a couple of snails for my aquarium. Because I love fish, especially bettas, we spent some time looking at the betta fish. That's when we noticed one lying on his side. He wasn't dead -- he was still alive -- but he had a thick white film covering his body that had clearly been developing for some time. He was gasping for air and trying to move but couldn't. This wasn't sudden. This was neglect. As animal lovers, we immediately looked for an employee to let them know. When we found one and brought the fish to her, before we could even explain what was happening, she asked, "Are y'all 18?" -- which was shocking considering I was holding a half-dead fish. I told her, "I'm not trying to buy him. He's dying." Her response, with zero empathy: "It's unfortunate. There's nothing we can do." I looked around at the shelves filled with fish medications, water treatments, and testing supplies -- yet somehow there was "nothing" they could do. As I walked away, she even suggested that I should buy him. That was wild to me. I ended up putting the fish back on the shelf to continue being sold. I've owned many betta fish that lived for years, and I've successfully treated sick fish before. I know for a fact this didn't happen overnight -- this fish was neglected. What shocked me most wasn't just the condition of the fish, but the complete lack of compassion from the employee. It felt like because it was "just a fish," his life didn't matter. I can't believe Petco allows animals to be kept in these conditions, or that they employ people who are so indifferent to obvious suffering. This experience was heartbreaking and deeply disappointing. And I'll tell you, "animal care" is NOT their top priority. MONEY is. When animals are treated as inventory instead of living beings, that's when you've lost it. read more

Went to buy 1 fish today for our tank. it's a small 15 gallon tank with about 4 other small fish. wanted a sucker to help clean the tank. after looking through their tanks that was horribly over crowded, lots of dead fish some stuck dead in big algae balls we finally found a decent looking fish. the refused to sell it to us because they say our tank was too small. These fish police can't even keep their own fish alive and have them shoved in tanks with no room to swim and MY tank is too small????? won't ever be back! read more

This is the worst business I have ever encountered in Hendersonville. I looked online to get directions and business hours and it stated that it opened at 8:00. I arrived about 8:50 and there was an employee outside the door smoking so I entered the first set of doors but found the second set closed. I thought maybe the door was broke so I opened and then an employee came and said we open at 9:00 and I told her I saw 8:00 online. I then went back to the vestibule and the employee who was smoking came back in and said we don't open until 9:00. I chuckled and said I found out he hard way. She then replied in a very sarcastic manner "THE HOURS ARE POSTED ON THE DOOR" as she walked back to the grooming area. While I waited the first door was open and it was a little cold so I closed the door. I few seconds later an employee came and opened it back. It seemed to have been done just because I closed it....tit for tat! Well several minutes later the doors opened and I went to the register. I asked the mean lady is there a manager there and she said "no but I am the assistant and what did you need"? I indicated that I was treated rudly and she responded with and angry and argumentative voice...."WE DONT OPEN UNTIL 9". I told her that's what it said online and she said "NO WE LOOKED IT UP". She really went back and forth about the hours but that was not my concern at theat point, it was the rude employees that I had encountered prior to coming to the register. Needless to say I said just take my SHIT back and she said she wouldn't and for me to leave because I cursed at her. I snatched my receipt out of her hand and proceeded to leave. Essentially I was treated rude and then when I asked for help with the situation I was told to leave. The assistant manager was also rude and combative. Instead of a deescalation she escalated the situation without provocation. She was very unprofessional and as I exited the door I did use profanity and she replied right back with me. I was so mad and I shouldn't have reacted to this type of ignorance. NEVER NEVER WILL I SHOP HERE AGAIN!! Needless to say the store has missing signs and employees who can't help because they are on there phones. Bad business!! read more

We brought two Yorkies in for grooming. They were here six weeks ago for a full grooming - there was a lot to be desired with their haircuts, but are convenient. Today our one Yorkie was turned away for his cough (trachea). He's had this for 10 years and comes into play when he gets excited, typically gone in 5 min~ when the excitement has passed. The groomer said she couldn't take him in this condition and at this age. The one they did take is older than this one. Where's the logic?? They then stated this is a safety concern. We again reiterated that he's had this for TEN years and was just there six weeks ago! We have NEVER had any issues. Their leadership team apparently defended this decision (they never came over) to not allow our dog to get serviced. Petco in Hendersonville will pick and choose who they assist without notice. For the 2nd time I went to this Petco to purchase a fish and nobody would get one out of the tank for us. The first time, the sales associate just refused, the second time, we were able to purchase a fish, but not the type we were requesting. My wife and I buy a lot of supplies for various pets each month. Recently, we needed some speciality food and vitamin products. When we looked them up, on Petco's site, they had a cheaper price than anyone else (it seemed). I took screenshots and we went to the Hendersonville store and purchased everything. After looking at the receipt, we soon realized we were charged double for those items (see attached photos). I called the store and talked to the girl who answered. She was extremely matterof fact and explained that "sometimes" they match the prices on THEIR website, IF you have screenshots (which we did). She was quick to point out that we could not return the items and discount was only available at time of initial purchase. To say she was rude and condescending is an understatement. I suspect Petco does this to many customers, but we just happen to notice. It's a bait and switch tactic. On top of that, they charge you for the plastic bag (sack) to carry your purchases out in ! They explain its "California law", even though this is Tennessee. So beware fellow pet owners. There are much more honest pet supply stores in the area who are friendly, have up-front pricing, give you a bag and appreciate your business, but avoid Petco ! Again, we buy a ton of pet products monthly and make constant donations through the local stores for the shelters. We won't do it here again. You've been warned ! read more

Crooked! They had a bunch of bins marked 75% off. We buy costumes for an animal rescue to help them get cute pics of pups for adoption. We went to the counter and the girl was super rude and when ringing them up she didn't take the discount. When I asked, she said "oh not everything is 75% off." My husband and I told her that the signs said 75% off the bins. She want to her manager and asked and came back and started ringing up the items. But we watched and she only took 50% off. She tried to sneak it in without telling us. When we told her that those were not 75%, she said too bad because that is what we are getting. We told her she could keep the items and we walked out. We are Instagram or's and we have a nonprofit, and we spend thousands of dollars at Petco every year on costumes. We will not be back to this location as they seem very shady. read more

We've used Petco grooming for years and been happy until today. Our Yorkie was supposed to have his face scissor cut along with a minimal shave to the rest of his body. The groomer shaved his muzzle by his eyes and scissor cut part of his face. In addition to having the worst cut of his life, they injured him. They shaved him so closely on his face that it exposed his skin in two areas. I had to contact the vet, get antibiotic cream, and will have to follow up with a vet appointment. After today, I will never use Petco for anything pet related. read more

I have taken my dog there for years. Last month, my dog was shaking, unable to eat and did not want me to put him down. After examining my dog, he has cuts under his breast and left hind quarters. His nails was red and swollen from clippings. When I spoke to the groomer, he did not know what happened. He passed my pet to someone else to care for. My dog WILL NEVER go back again. I brought my dog in for grooming and to have her nails filed down since they were very sharp. When I brought her home, her nails were still sharp. I called the store and they forwarded me to Darius who took care of my dog and he said "yeah we may have forgot to do her nails". I paid for this service and that's the response I get. I also didn't appreciate the way they were handling my 8 month old puppy who is very sweet. The first time I brought her Rachel was there, who no longer works there and she was great. Everything worked out well with Rachel the first time I brought my dog for grooming. My dog was licking her because they bonded and it was a great experience with a happy dog. This time my dog couldn't wait to get out of there. She was scared when we got home and didn't touch her food. She went to the bed and just layed there, seeming depressed. I'm not using petco anymore for grooming. I would recommend not using Darius, my dog did not bond with him at all. Terrible service, it seems like they don't care. read more

She's usually terrified to have anyone touch her front paws but the technician who helped us was so kind and patient with her. This was the absolute worst grooming experience for my small dog. When I first arrived, I was told my dog couldn't be serviced by a rude young woman at the front desk. I had an appointment, called ahead, and was assured all was well. Of course, I called the manager and was given someone else. After two hours, I arrive to pick up my pet who is shaved almost bald, extremely anxious, and terrified. When we arrive home, he is licking at his paw incessantly, scooting on the floor, and trembling. I notice red patches appearing on him and what looks like a cut to his paw. I take him to the vet where they confirm that he was indeed cut by the groomer on his paw (which was infected after mere hours), had several small abrasions and wide-spread inflammation. My dog was also very lethargic and overall depressed. He is usually full of energy and happy. He is now a traumatized, trembling mess! He is on antibiotics for the cut, steroids for the inflammation, and has a cone so he will stop licking his infected paw. Petco in Hendersonville is the absolute worst. Please do not bring your pets here. They are unprofessional, inept, and abusive. I have a near two hundred dollar vet bill on their account but even more than that, a sad injured puppy who deserved better. read more

If something you need is not in stock it's ordered for you and ships quickly to the store. Also since Ricky Timmons become manager of the Hendersonville Petco I've noticed a big difference in the cleanliness of the store as a whole. It sparkles! The dog food I get usually isn't at other retailers but Petco always has it! The main reason I'm leaving a review is because of how great the customer service is. This is my first ever dog and I try to know what I'm getting before going in, but there have been quite a few times I needed help and they have always been there to provide that. I came in today to get a muzzle and I tried fitting two on my dog but I could not figure out which one fit best, and some employees put down what they were doing and helped me out! It fits perfectly! brought my dog in for a grooming appointment. The girls were nice and my puppy looked good afterwards. my main complaint and reason for the 1 star was the pricing. I went in under the impression it was $40. when I dropped her off they asked if I wanted her nails buffed and teeth brushed. I said yes but didn't realize it would cost more and they said nothing about it. they took her back and said they would call when she was done. they called about an hour later and I went to get her. when I walked in they handed me a paper and said to pay at the front while they got her. I went to pay and the total was $62 without tip. I reluctantly paid and even added a tip. I went back and got Emma and asked why my total was so high. the young girl behind the counter snarkly said "because you got her nails huffed and teeth brushed". I told her I didn't realize it would be extra and she said (with a nasty attitude) "it was on the paper you signed". I then told her I hadnt signed anything to which she replied "I guess you left before we could get you to sign it". she put all the blame on me because I was somehow supposed to know I had to sign something. she said "I guess we should have said something then" and went back to looking at her computer. it wouldn't have been that big of a problem if she didn't have such a nasty attitude. They schedule a grooming appointment at 8 am....they didn't show up and keep the appointment. This has happened twice. If you aren't going to be here when the appointment is scheduled, then don't tell people that they can have that appointment time. I recently adopted a chihuahua & so I bought reusable diapers & got their last Petco tearless shampoo & conditioner on sale for $2.50!!! So sometimes you can find a great deal or something you weren't expecting to buy. They have the cutest dog tags but are overly priced. So I'm going to go to Walmart for a dog tag. My dog appt was at 1pm for a bath. At 545 I stop by check on him and I'm told it will be another 30-40 minutes more. So 1pm-630ish for a basic bath. Will never use this place again. How can they say 2-3 hours for a basic bath? Once we left my poor dog pissed outside for 2 minutes, that lets me know he was caged up for a while waiting for his bath. I love Petco, I've only had good experiences at this location! The animals are always cared for, for the most part. Took off a star for the hermit crabs Bc they need more non painted shells, eco earth & better food, fruits and veg. Hamsters also need silent spinners. I love it here .. The only change I would make is how they treat customers . Most of the employees are very kind but, one guy was a total jerk when we were looking at fish . He asked if we needed any help and we said " No just looking " he saw out two year old in my arms and in a rude and snobby response says " all we ask us that you do not touch it put your fingers on the glass " ..
