This is Cass. He was dropped off at a Petco because of dire circumstances of the family. Cass had stressed so much because of the situation that he had plucked all of his feathers off but a small ring around his neck and the ones right on his face. He had no wing feathers, tail feathers, crest feather, covered in sores, bleeding in places, .... he was stressed. At this time Cass was only 8 years old and his pet parents were older and the mom was ill. The family found out she had cancer and she shortly passed. Then because of all the bills, the house was foreclosed upon. Dad didn't know what to do when he needed to go into the hospital and he didn't have a place for Cass. He stopped by a Petco that I worked at and asked about boarding. I explained that at this moment we didn't have boarding and referred him to a Vet Clinic close by that I knew was familiar with birds. He explained that he already checked with them and it wouldn't be feasible. Here Cass was wearing a sock with the toe cut out because he had plucked all his feathers out and was mutilating himself. I explained to dad that Cass could be relinquished and we could make sure he received medical care. Two days later dad brought Cass back and relinquished him. We weren't set up for a Umbrella Cockatoo. I personally bought the cage that was appropriate for him and the food that he was used to. He had already been through hell, I wasn't going to make him deal with more changes. That first day we had him at the register while we were getting things ready. He perked up, started bobbing and swaying, started singing, and he was going up to each person that checked out saying "what, what" . I took him to the Vet that I knew had bird knowledge to tell me how to help him. They basically wanted him on birdie Prozac. They stated that he was nervous because of all the changes in his life and he needed to be medicated. We did that, he didn't pluck but he wasn't that stimulated bird interacting, playing and talking animatedly. I took him to another vet and they gave him a silvadeen spray for his chest in case there was something wrong with the skin. The sores healed up quickly but he still didn't seem happy. I took him to a third vet, Dr. Grana, she had worked at the Zoo for awhile, then went to a regular clinic. She said that she wanted to make a few calls to her vet friends at the Zoo. I get a phone call from her the same day as the first appointment. She told me stimulation was what he needed. I spoke to my District Leader and told him a little about what was going on and that I had adopted Cass because of all his needs. My DL said that I should do Meet The Critter events with him so people would understand the needs of big birds. So it started, for 4 years Cass was a regular at the store for Meet The Critter. He would talk and Play with people, he would get bored with one situation and climb down to go to the next. We found that he loves Taylor Swift and that he understands some Spanish as he yells "baile baile ". He has regulars that come in that he sings to so they will come pick him before they go shopping. He has us trained. When I tell people about birds, I let them know that birds are perpetual 3 year olds. The toys have to change often, the interaction has to be significant and they can be destructive and throw a temper tantrum. Cass finally got to the point that I can lay him on his back and snuggle with him. I felt as proud as a mother whose child said their first word. The day he said "want some " instead of trying to take the food out of my hand was another great day. The day I realized he didn't like hoodies, but hats were fine was another growing experience. Or the day I found out Cass was purposefully pooping on me because he was mad at me.... that was interesting. He is a 3 year old trying to teach me to understand his moods, his nuances and his language. He's smart and he's going to outlive me. I received a crash course in what can happen if all the little things aren't paid attention to. Do I know everything about birds? No, but I keep asking and keep growing with knowledge because I have this forever baby that I have to keep working with. Petco taught me that people might want a pet, but that some people might not need a pet and it's okay to say no. I have never gotten in trouble for telling someone that we couldn't sell a companion animal to them. Petco puts companion animals first. read more

Booked an appointment online for a basic dog bath and nail trim. Checked in with no issues. Got a call 20 minutes later that my dog was too big and they weren't able to complete the service. I went in to get him and they informed me he was soaking wet from a bath but they weren't able to dry him and that he pooped in the crate and got it on himself. Attached is a photo of his nail trim. No wonder he wouldn't let them keep working on him. Very unimpressed with the service and condition I got my dog back in. Once she gave us the fish she did not explain to us how to care for the fish I even asked her what do I get for the fish it's my first time we have one & she just shows me the glofish area, I was so confused but okay we got whatever is in the receipt from what we came up with, excited we got home set up the tank and we added the water conditioner let it sit for about 30 mins we then added the fish in with the water he came with as well. Excited we showed our daughter she was so happy. Checked on the fish about 1 hour later & he was dead, I then googled what can possibly be the issue and turns out we also needed another type of water cleaner and the conditioner together, if I had any help getting prepared to take a fish home I doubt he would've died. Usually they are great, especially with deliveries in the timbergrove area. But I'm getting sick of a few things: out of stocks on certain necessary items, narrow aisles/ overcrowding, and closing at inappropriate times. 8 pm on a weekday is not conducive to proper business or convenient for those that actually WORK And wish for shop until 9. Petco has always been open until 9 on weekdays 7 on sundays. But not anymore. Also sometimes a panhandler will be harassing ppl in parking lots . This review is not for the store itself, but the grooming service. Today, they completely failed my mom's dog and made us both lose faith in this store. My mom took her 11 year old dog in to get a bath and grooming. She was already nervous because her dog has never been groomed by someone other than our Ohio groomer. The appointment was scheduled for 2:30pm and was told she would be done by 4pm. My mom arrived at 4pm and she had only just gotten a bath. The person who was supposed to have groomed my mom's dog went on a break. Her dog was left in a heating crate. My mom sat there for 30 minutes listening to her dog bark in terror. Finally, after 30 plus minutes of standing there helpless, the manager stopped by to ask her how he could help. My mom explained the situation, and the manager got her dog. She offered to paid for the bath until it was going to be $26 for a small dog who has just been traumatized. Overall, customer service 1/5, grooming services 1/5, bath price 1/5... don't let your groomer heat crate dry your dogs. Let alone leaving them there to go on break read more

Was on this side of town today so the wife, dog and I stopped into this location. We are always on the lookout for Elk or Deer antlers for Leia. They are her favorite chew toy! At every PetCo the antlers are stored in bins, they are all different prices. Totally understand that they get picked up and returned to the wrong bins. We asked an employee for help with the pricing, she was very nice, checked the SKU numbers on the two we picked out and told us they were $9.99 each. We were ready to check out so the employee took them to the register and they rang up as $19.99. She apologized and said she would call a manager over to get them price matched for the price she quoted. The manager, Jen went and checked the SKU numbers and said the employee looked at the wrong ones. Shrugged her shoulders and said there was nothing she could do, that was the price. Honestly, I was just horrified to walk in the other day and discover a young redfoot tortoise (a tropical species) housed with two much larger Russian tortoises (a desert species) in an enclosure the size of a shoebox - literally. And not for cheap either - each animal had a three-figure price tag. The Russian tortoises had pooped on top of the redfoot baby and the tiny water dish was also filled with poop. There was only one hiding place and young tortoises get extremely stressed if they cannot hide. There was a bright light located not even 12 inches above the animals - lighting like that can burn a tortoise's eyes. In a store with so much square footage can they not find room to give each species their own habitat with room to hide, roam, wallow and (in the redfoot's case) get some much-needed humidity? The other reptile species were in no better shape. PLEASE stop selling reptiles - especially if you cannot care for them properly while they are in-store. It just leads to a lifetime of abuse and ignorance. The store wasn't busy but no one was caring for the animals and I couldn't even find a staff member to ask. UPDATE: I called the store and spoke to a manager who was very courteous and she told me that was just a temporary situation and they will be separating the animals and giving the redfoot tortoise his own separate habitat. This feels like a step in the right direction at least. read more

Their fish tanks appear a lot more maintained than Petco's competitor in the area although they do not have as much accessories or cleaning supplies as them. I had a disastrous experience on December 31st, 2019 when I went to Petco located at 901 N. Shepherd Dr, to buy some cans of food for my cat. I was selecting the cans when I heard announce by the microphone at 7:00 pm "make up your mind because I am going to close the registry". I thought it was unprofessional to say that to us as customers but I did not take it personal and I and some other costumers rushed to the registry to pay. I paid the cans of food at 7:02pm. Behind me were 2 or 3 more costumers and I wanted to buy some more cans of food. So, I put the cans of food that I just paid on the counter of the empty registry and I started to walk fast to get some more cans and the woman at the registry yelled to me "Where are you going?" I said "I am going to get some other cans of food, I will be back in a second". She yelled again "I am going to close the registry" I said "Please wait a second and she screamed at me "Hurry up!". Again, I do not think neither her words nor the tone were appropriate to say to a client. When I came back, she was still helping a man. I brought 6 cans, I asked her to just scanned 3 of the 6 cans because I wanted to use my points from "PALS" rewards with those 3 cans and pay cash for the other 3 cans. Even though, she listen to what I said, she did not do it and she scanned the 6 cans at once. Then, she said "You don't have more points, are you going to buy them or not?" She also said "I am making you the favor to be here, I should be at home". I said "I want to use my points" she screamed even harder, "I am telling you don't have points.".......And at that moment she walked out from her registry and grabbed my bag with cans that I have previously bought and she said with a strong and authoritarian voice, "LEAVE NOW". I said "excuse me?" and she started to walk toward the door with my plastic bag with cans and said again "LEAVE NOW". She escorted me to the street and she said "LEAVE"!!!!! At that moment, I was freaking out. I felt threaten that she could hit me. So, I took my bag and left. read more

My food is always in stock, and they offer 10% off most of the time, and every $100 I spend I get a $5 coupon...which isn't much but at least it's something, right?! I've been going there for my dog food and it's a "hit or miss" every time I've gone until Sabrina and Tiffany came to this location. The hardest job for any employee at Petco has to be dog training. For one thing, people are unreliable and don't always show up. Amanda does not give up. She is encouraging, thoughtful and dedicated to the pet students in her charge. She works hard with a calm presence. I don't know what Petco would do without her. She is a dog whisperer. I made an appointment on Friday, the 24th, for Saturday the 25th to have both my dogs groomed. We arrived a little before our appointment and were told they'd be ready by 4. I received a call from Petco at 4, wasn't able to pick it up but assumed they were ready. My husband went to go get them, they hadn't been touched. They were in a kennel, no water and no record of them being there (I filled out all paperwork when I checked them in). I've taken them there before and never really had a problem, with the exception of the staff being a little oblivious. I did what I was supposed to do as a responsible pet owner and consumer, the failed miserably on their end.
