Pets are a great thing. All through the years my family had pets. A great joy, companionship. They need to be cared for and can bring many years of joy and comfort to you. I've been considering one as I use to have through the years, but my current living conditions are way to small. Anyways I went to Petco yesterday and looked around. I was greeted by 2 men there who were very polite and respectful. They were very informative about the animals there. Hello, so this isn't the first time I have been to this petco to get my Great Pyrenees groomed this would make it the second time. (Keep in mind I have been getting him groomed for 3 years now this isn't his first time). The first time this young guy was very sweet and did a great job loved polar and polar enjoyed his time. and I didn't have no issues until today...... so new young girl thought she knew my dog better me... imagine that lol... but did an absolute chop job on him. Now when I picked him up I didn't fully inspect him I told her it looked good cause he was pretty much running out the door which should have been a sign.... When I finally got him home I noticed everything they did to him.... The cutting isn't blended, left hair long and some short in random spots, left some small matting area, she cut and shaved his legs creating patches on his legs, I added a shedding treatment and he's still losing hair like crazy like he only got a bath, I mean he's white and smells good so no complaints there. but for everything else like wtf! Will never ever go back. Obviously they have no experience on a larger long haired dog. STOP ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW HOW TO CUT OR KNOW ABOUT A BREED IF YOU DONT!! read more

Worst Petco ever. Had me waiting outside for half an hour for one small bag of food while the employees stood around slacking off and doing absolutely nothing. No customers even inside the store. The level of ignorance and complete incompetence from the entire staff is absurd. When I finally called to ask why the wait was so long, the old man on the phone was beyond nasty for no reason. I have always had positive experiences here. Between Shelly (Red-eared slider turtle), Rudy (parakeet), Ellie (guinea pig), & Dixie & Trixie (twin baby Robo hamsters), I'm in a pet shop at least 3 times/month. The store always seems neat and well-stocked. I have never encountered a dead anything here (not to say it dosen't happen; I've just never seen it), and the staff have always been helpful and almost always approach me to see if I need help. I rarely need to seek an employee to help me. My two Akitas, Black Lab, German Shorthair Pointer, Black Lab/Coonhound and cats have all sadly passed away, and I don't bring any of my current pets in pet stores. However, I never brought my dog(s) in the car when it was over 65° outsidr, even when the air conditioning (like here) was really good. That said, whenever I was in a Petco, both here and in Pittsburgh, on the rare occasion I brought a dog(s) with me, the staff always greeted me and my pets. I don't know if they still do, but back in the day they used to give my dogs treats at the cash register which was a nice touch. Sometimes the employees are stocking shelves, but never have I had anyone make me wait. It's so annoying when you go in a store and the employees finish what they're doing while you stand there waiting. The aisles are well-labeled and wide, there's signs on the floor where to stand, and all the employees wear masks and make sure all customers do, too. I like the current promotion, where you can buy online and pick up in store and get an extra 10% off before tax. The majority of the time my order is ready in less than an hour. They still offer curbside pick up. Just have I.D. ready. I also like that if there is 2 or 3 people in line, the cashier calls for another cashier to open. Another nice thing is the store is well- air-conditioned, and their hand sanitizer stations are always full. Also, their grooming salon is up front near the check out (no dragging your pet through the store). Finally, if you find something online, they are happy to price match it in the store. This Petco is a Petnogo for me. I only stopped in briefly in an attempt to find some worm prevention for my pup. I had some questions and called it the wrong thing, and the staff member I was working with wasn't doing much to explain to me what my options were. She looked completely annoyed that she had to go to the lock box, get the meds and check me out. I did bring my dog with me and most of the employees didn't even look at her and a few actively ignored her. No one needs to roll out the red carpet, I was there to get my meds and leave, but like...a hello to either of us would have been nice. A different employee answered the phone as I was about the check out and held up his finger at me. I don't know if any of this really amounts to being that big of a deal, but at the end of the day if someone had taken the time to explain the product and how it worked, I would have purchased something different and left a lot less miffed. I have been coming here for years. I personally prefer Petco to the other pet stores in the area. I think they have a better selection of dog treats, which is usually what I'm in the store for. Since I can order pet food online, I'm not in the actual store all that often anymore. The last time I stopped in was awhile before Halloween, and they already had toys and costumes at 50% off! I had to get some of those. My dog was a lion for Halloween, lol. I like that I can run in and run out pretty quickly. And if I have my dog in the car, she's welcome, too, which I really like. read more

So many dead goldfish in their tanks got told oh they are just sleeping not true the ones that were alive were feeding on the dead ones there were dead ones attached to filter as well. And many dead Bettas they don't care for their fish here and it's quite sad. read more

I would give this store 0 stars if I could. I can not tell you how many times I have came into this store and found a dead fish floating at the bottom of the tank, malnourished animals, empty water dishes, etc. a few nights ago I found a dead baby beardie in one of the cages underneath a hide, it looked as though it had gone through rigor Mortis already since it was on its side stiffened up. this means it must've been dead for at least a few hours, no one had checked up on him for a while. It's alarming that a customer has to be the one to find that. Not to mention another beardie was in there with him. Same with dead fish at bottom of tanks, which is worse if you know about nitrate cycles. Dead fish emit toxins into the water which can kill or make other fish in the tank get ill. I'm not sure how long those fish had been dead in there but whenever I have gotten fish from Petco in the past they died even though I was giving them adequate care. I stoped buying animals from Petco because they just aren't taken proper care of at this location. Other locations the animals seem much happier, not sure what the problem is with the staff here. The man who approached me after I found the bearded dragon said they had just gotten that shipment that day which is probably why he died. I'm not sure if that's true because I didn't take it up with a manger, but there was only one live bearded dragon in the cage so I'm sure if they had just gotten a shipment there would be more. I know petco sources their animals from inhumane breeders such as reptiles by Mac. I wish the corporate offices would make changes to better the quality of their animals. It would make more people want to shop with you. I'm a student without a car and I'm on my own with paying for my bunny and leopard gecko. If there was a small pet shop close to me I would shop there, but east ridge road is closest to me. read more

An employee at the Irondequoit Petco went out of her way to let me run in quickly when they were closing. I hadn't realized the change of hours and was prepared to leave once I realized I was just getting there right as it closed. Petco is way overpriced. They are all about the money, not the pets. Vetco is now a Petco service, and they want employees to make sure customers spend between $70-$80/pet. They don't care if people can afford things, they are just greedy. Go to PetSmart, PetSaver, Pet Supply plus or Chewy.com. Allare more honest and less expensive. read more

Shop there frequently and I work with the Pet Rescue there as well. I haven't had any issue with any of the staff or anything like that. Their stock is always good and their prices are very competitive, especially when there is a sale on litter or food. read more

I have brought my puppy in twice for full grooming service and was not disappointed on either occasion. Brittany bonds well with my baby. I am very satisfied with Brittany's grooming skills, recommendations and overall customer service. The grooming cost plus tip is a budgeted item for my baby - I have no complaints. Went to a wonderful adoption event for Another Chance Rescue

I use this PETCO location for all of my dogs needs. I have been in there often times when dogs are being groomed. Many times I have heard dogs crying and have looked in the windows to see what was going on. On several occasions I have seen dogs hooked up to the grooming platform with their heads held so tight by the strap that they literally look as if they are choking. On Monday May 6th I was in there and could hear this loud screaming coming from the grooming area. Again, a dog, on a platform trying desperately to free themselves from the strap around its neck. When I say screaming, I mean S-C-R-E-A-M-I-N-G. I asked the check out person (unaffected by the screaming) to speak to the Manager. I asked him what was going on and why they would allow a dog to experience such anxiety? I was told that was the procedure in grooming and that pet parents are told this is the nature of grooming and accept it. In order to keep pets from falling off of the platform they have to strap them in. I said - this dog is screaming and this is acceptable to you? To which I was answered with a stoic nod. No expression, no nothing. As I left I told him I would never allow my dog(s) to be groomed at PETCO. And that goes for any PETCO whose "Procedures" involve creating excessive anxiety in dogs. Please do not take your pets to PETCO for grooming unless you intend on staying to watch. read more

I brought my yellow lab, Brady, in for bath. Tamrah did a complete job by bathing him, brushing him, and cleaning his ears and teeth. Brady was ready when promised and he looked wonderful. If you just go to browse, do not take your credit card or check book as you are liable to come home with a lot of stuff you didn't need, possibly including more pets.
