I took my dog for a grooming appointment and added the soothe and repair package, due to her skin sensitivities and allergies this time of year. She was scheduled with the groomer, Danielle, who was the rudest human being I have ever met. I did not feel comfortable leaving my dog alone with her, so I walked around the store and watched her groom my dog. When my dog was ready to be picked up, she complained that I watched and said I made my dog more anxious. My dog couldn't see me, as her back was to the wall, and I believe Danielle was mad that I watched because she knew she wasn't doing right by her. She cut my dog's quick and also gave her a rash on her stomach. When I told the store, they gave me a refund, but nobody cared that my dog was harmed, instead, they made excuses. My dog has had her nails trimmed countless times and NEVER has been cut, and they told me this is normal. She also has white nails where you can literally see the quick so there's no excuse. My dog is now limping and has a bright red belly with bumps all over it, so clearly the upgraded package did NOTHING. I will NEVER bring my dog back here and will NEVER shop here again. The staff is completely unprofessional, rude, and ignorant. My dog was treated poorly, and when I brought it to the attention of the staff, I was then treated poorly. If you decide to risk bringing your dog here, just make sure Danielle doesn't get a hold of it. read more

Seems most the negative reviews are with grooming. Petco is a basic pet store with the supplies you need. I'll agree, prices are cheaper on their website so I typically order online. The retail staff have always been friendly and provides the service you would expect. My only advice would be....make sure live food is rotated and checked on a regular basis. Shouldn't one expect your pet(s) to be groomed when taking them to the groomers? I went to take my two dogs, (both teddy bear mixes), to this Petco today, 12/28/24. They had a 12:00PM appointment, but I arrived 35 minutes early, so the three of us decided to walk around the store for a bit. Once it was their call time, I was told by two groomers that they wouldn't be able to be groomed because they most likely had fleas (they were wearing Snoopy Christmas sweaters since today was cold and rainy). I'm very confused though, as my daughter and I always take special care in the grooming of our boys if they aren't able to see a groomer. The vet's office was closed at the time of me going, so it's even weirder for these two groomers to assume that they had fleas when they not only aren't doctors, but they also didn't properly inspect either of them to see if they actually had fleas. The second groomer that came out to speak with me then made the assumption that if one has fleas, they'd both have fleas. That same groomer also came to the assumption that my eldest dog probably had fleas between his toes, and I seriously have no idea how she came to that conclusion at all. So, I came back home and told my daughter the news. We then made the hours-long daunting task of fully grooming them both. And to no one's surprise, neither of them had fleas. The most that we found on either of them was dirt, but they were due for another bath soon anyway. I honestly believe both women were showing overt microaggressions, especially since they both loudly proclaimed in the store while speaking to me that my boys had fleas. Anyone could've heard, and they (wrongly) insinuated that I don't take proper care of my dogs. I was shown disgusting behavior today and will not support Petco again. read more

After receiving a broken aquarium the management happily replaced our purchase and thoroughly helped us pick out all the things we need for our aquarium. Petco cancelled the appointment and wouldn't do a consultation because the vet paperwork has the name as 'Stray'. Six hours before his appointment at 2:03 am I received a text stating that the appointment had been canceled. I rescheduled and 3 hours later it was canceled. I called and the answer I received for the cancellations was (I don't know why). Surprised at the answer I replied well I will call someone else and her reply was OK. kid you not these people are so awesome went to petco and my little dog was so so stressed all the workers came up and said hi and have her cookies and got her to come off the food shelf and made sure when we walked pass them to stay so calm and give her lots of reassurance. THEN they helped me grab my crickets for my new gecko egg roll, grabbed my snakes minnows while i was grabbing mealworms, THEN I was asked to grab dog food by a friend which was pretty heavy so the worker helped me grab some stuff out of my hands cause i had my dog i was holding onto too. Had my stuff piled up on two separate counters then they finally helped me carry everything to my car. Literally have never had a better experience anywhere. We had to cancel a grooming visit due to a death in the family. This is our only cancellation on our account. They blocked our account from being able to make a reservation online. Customer Service will not unblock it. We've tried multiple times to contact them and have it unblocked. No luck. You need to remember that you are a luxury and not a necessity. So I looked at the services offered for grooming online, called ahead of time to make sure there weren't special walk-in hours (no one answered after letting it ring and ring). I walk in at 10 am to find two employees just sitting there, not friendly at all. Without saying hello or anything they ask if he's been there and for rabies papers. I came in here to get an item advertised as being on sale only to find it not on sale in the store at all. When I looked the item up on my phone it was definitely still on sale. So I went up to the registers and asked if they would honor the sale price and they said they would. The cashier asked to see my phone, so I showed it to her with the price. She said she'd charge me that price without any problems. After checking out and looking at my receipt, I noticed my total was about $10 higher than it should have been. When I went back to the registers and showed the cashier that it was the wrong price, instead of correcting it she gave me some weird story instead. The cashier told me that initial sale price she agreed to give me was for a different sale on the same item and she couldn't give me that one, so she gave me another higher sale price instead. That does not even make sense. Do not say you will sell me an item for one price then switch it to a higher price without telling me. That's bad business. read more

I'd advise NOT to take your dog there, especially if your dog has anxieties or can pick up on human energies. We just moved to Kernersville about a month ago and I've been searching and searching for a groomer close by, I'm really looking for a mobile groomer. I have two small dogs, one is very shy and has high anxieties, around strangers, the other is playful, but can be high energy (she's less than 10 months old). Anyway, I was explaining, what kind of cut I wanted for the puppy and got cut off! Apparently, she didn't like how my dog was acting, and flat out said "before you tell me how you want her cut, we need to determine if we can even take her in" RUDE! THEN she proceeded to tell me how matted she was.... its not that she simply pointed it out, she said it almost like, this is gonna cost you, shes so matted all around here and there...(is this how petco makes their extra money? pointing out how terrible your dogs hair is and guilt you into paying extra??) I was taken aback, because normally, any GOOD groomer would try to calm the puppy down first, before refusing business. This person has NO idea that dogs can feel our energy, especially negative energy! Poor puppy was terrified and I had reservations leaving her there, BUT I did anyway. 4 hours later, we pick up our dogs. They bring the puppy out and the groomer didn't even say hello! She started with, you really need to work with her more, I almost called and had you pick her up (she was MAD at me!) ... HUH? I was so confused, isn't that why I pay you the big bucks?? So I wouldn't have to cut her nails and shave her myself? Like AREN'T YOU TRAINED FOR THIS? The puppy WAS SHAVED DOWN and she looked like a frickin' twig . I never got to finish explaining how i wanted her hair cut. Thank goodness, shes a very cute dog and she can sport any cut. In dire need of improvement. I wish that petco employees would be a little more careful about giving brand food recommendations. They don't actually know pet nutrition, and anything they tell you is anecdotal, yet they speak about food trends with such unbridled confidence. I'm not sure why all these stock photos have been uploaded by the business owner. This is not AT ALL what this store looks like. In the same vein, they have expired goods on the shelves, products whose prices are mislabeled, and signs/ads that mislead on discounts. PUPPY TRAINING CLASSES. Don't waste your time or money on Puppy one training classes. Biggest wasted of time and money. You do nothing but sit around and chit chat for and hour. There were only two dogs in our class. My dog was a little one and the other was a black lab mix. My puppy was scared of the other dog so she spent most of her time in my lap. First, let me say the customer service is EXCELLENT. They always rise to the occasion, even if it's the slightest of issues. I actually look forward going to the check out, as I find the cashiers to be extremely friendly. The only peeve I have with this store is that my go-to products are usually out of stock :( The type of treats I buy seem to be big sellers, so I'm not sure why they don't keep plenty of stock. However, the staff makes sure to keep me a happy customer and offers me a discount on a similar product. Once, I purchased some dog treats that I didn't realize were already out of date. I returned them and the manager replaced my order AND gave me a discount. On another occasion, they didn't have the grain-free dog food I usually buy in the 50 lb bag, but they had it in 25 lb bags, but at a higher price per bag. They rang up (2) 25lb bags and gave me a major discount for the inconvenience. Not that my dog-ter (dog-daughter) minds any of this :) She's happy with anything I bring home that's edible! read more

GROOMING STATION: Took my 3 1/2 month Great Dane puppy here today. They REFUSED to clip her nails. They said they required Rabies vaccination record. I stated that I brought my records for her with me but since she is not 4 months old she has not had her rabies but she just went last week to the vet and is completely up to date on her shots per the vet. Her rabies appt is set for next month. They continued to say they needed the rabies papers, did not care to view the documentation I had and just flat refused. So I took her up the street to Petstravagansa and was absolutely pleased with them and they were actually cheaper for what I wanted. The grooming area is the only time I have ever had any problems with this Petco. I have shopped in there a few times before and had a decent experience. read more

I use to enjoy taking them in but now they have to walk in on a leash. I admit my babies are Divas they do not wear collars or walk on leashes. Thought I'd try the local Petco grooming services for my 4 year old Golden Retriever. He's rather exuberant, but I'm always told (by the many previous groomers who've worked on him) that he calms down as soon as I leave. The woman who took my information was rather short with me right from the start. My dog was excited, although not especially happy to be waiting at the desk. This is typical for him, and we've never experienced an issue over it. Just before taking him back, the woman asked if he's "always this way". I told her that yes, he is, but I'm always told that he settles down right after I leave. I said that I usually act like I'm walking back with him and then quick turn and go on my way, and he's fine. No, she said she couldn't let me do that, then proceeded to lead him through the door, into the back. I then heard him screeching like he'd been hurt. Did that a couple more times, and she appeared back at the front with him, saying he couldn't be groomed. I had just signed the $77 dollar receipt, so left it, took his leash from her and told her I'd just take him to where I've been going. Maybe this woman was just having a bad day, or maybe the people at Petstravaganza and Pet Smart have more of a knack for dealing with big, goofy, excited dogs that have a bit of separation anxiety. I am giving this rating for one and only one employee at the Petco gooming department. Melody. She is the only one that can do our dogs nails. Our pup is extremely sweet, never met a stranger and always happy. Once, when she was a puppy, we took her in for nails and another groomer said she nipped. This was highly unusual and we were concerned, both for the employee and our pup. I am convinced, 2 years later, that the ONE time it happened, our pup was handled roughly and her nails were snipped too low so it hurt, but our pup has a "note" in the file stating that she bites. Melody however does her nails consistently and is sweet and loving to her. We have never had an issue since then. We do however have to wait until Melody is working and if she ever leaves, we will be taking our pup to another place. read more

I have always found the employees at Petco to be friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. They all seem to really enjoy their jobs and love animals. I have not used the grooming services there, so I cannot comment on that, but the retail side is top-notch. I go to Petco because it's convenient, most times quick and I can't find the particular things I need at Walmart or other grocery stores. The aspen bedding(the only bedding that my hedgehog is allowed) is always a different brand every time I go in and it's always $9.99 for a small 5lb bag. But the bulk bag I usually get is 15 or so gallons (lasts me all year) is $12.99? And they no longer carry it. The employees are always nice and friendly but they don't really put forth much effort when it comes to customer service. I could walk in circles for 20 minutes trying to help myself or find an employee to help me. They don't wear uniforms, sashes or vests, just everyday clothes. So it's difficult to decipher who works there and who's just another customer shopping.... read more

Be on alert. The marine fish that they sell are highly stressed as we observed. We purchased over $300 a month and a half ago from this location to use in our college university science class. All of the fish died within a few weeks. The rate at wish they all died was alarming to say the least. This retail giant takes no responsibility in the quality of their marine aquatics. Our water quality and every dynamic was within the acceptable marine tolerance for a saltwater tank. Take our advice and do not buy any fish from this location. I had my male toy poodle Cocoa Puffs groomed yesterday by Mandie & Danielle. I was so pleased when I showed up at 11 o'clock to drop him off they talk to me for 20 minutes to ease my mind about leaving him there. Both of us have had a traumatic experience on September 6, 2015 where we were in car accident. We were T-boned and my husband passed away and my Yorkshire Terrier Roxy was severely injured in her back and I had to put her down. I walked away with 3 broken ribs and just shook up. I am lucky to be alive and so is Coco Puffs I had my seatbelt on the airbags deployed the car turned a 360 on the other side of the highway and ended up in a ditch. I was holding on to CocoPuffs and they had to pry him out of my arms. They took me to the hospital and him to a veterinarian hospital just to stay and get out of shock. So I am recently widowed and Cocoa Puffs is all I have he is mine my everything now. I am so happy with the results of his haircut. Now he'll be cool for the summer. I love Petco store with all of the supplies that they have for animals. Thank you so much for such wonderful service and making me feel at ease during this difficult time for me.
