We have been going to this Petco for years and have always had a great experience. We purchase the refrigerated 'Just Food For Dogs' which we can order online and pick up in the store or have it delivered, which is a convenience we appreciate. The staff are always friendly and there is rarely a wait in line. The location is ideal as there is a Stater Brothers, Ross, pool store, smoke shop, and many others that we frequent which makes it easy to get all our shopping done quickly. We took our 8 month old Doberman in for nail trim after another groomer couldn't work with him and they were so attentive and made him feel comfortable even after he displayed some hesitation. Zara spent a good hour with us helping us choose many different products for his skin, treats and accessories for his feet. She also gave us so many helpful training tips and spent time getting to know him and showing examples of how to correct his behaviors. As a dog mom of a large breed dog he's constantly labeled as scary or vicious when he's actually the sweetest and goofiest pup it was honestly so amazing to have someone who was not only not afraid of him but was so good with him. As she passed me I asked if she worked there, she looked at me at said she would help me in a moment ( she was looking for something for a customer on the phone) so I patiently waited and followed her, after about 5 mins of waiting she was off the phone and immediately jumped on a cash register (there was already an other employee at the register serving a line of 3 customers) when I asked if I could get some crickets she said she was understaffed and "couldn't help me" yet clearly she could and was choosing not to. The other employee at the register actually jumped off his register (once he heard about what was happening) to get me the darn crickets. I will never spend my hard earned money at this corporation again. PETSMART is better than petco in every imaginable way possible. read more

Worst experience I have ever had. Scheduled my dogs grooming appointment 2 weeks ahead of time. 2 days before they notified me the appointment time had been moved up to 8am from 8:30. No problem for me as we get up early. When we got there I was told they had 20 dogs booked for the day and they might not be able to get my dog done and I should re-schedule. Total waste of my time. Went in on Wednesday, saw a particular fish I wanted. Asked for assistance, the clerk associate then advised me they may not be selling fish as they have ich disease. The manager then came over and asked what fish I wanted, and then told me the same thing. This particular fish wasn't showing any signs of ich. So I told her I would treat the fish myself, and she said no sale. I also pointed out there were several.dead fish in their display and that probably didn't help, and they should be removed. No signage or quarrantine was posted on any of the tanks, or in the department. I asked when they would be for sale again, she replied maybe in a few days. Well, I went in on Saturday afternoon and looked at the tanks, the particular fish was no longer in their display. She and her associate were working in the tanks and said hello to me as I walked around the display. Once again she told me they were not selling fish. Again still NO sign. Seems there's more than an ich problem here, and they can't put up a single sign to show how poor of a store they are for fish. The only reason I go there is it's near my house, and I'm driving by. I feel bad for their livestock as they often dont maintain their systems, mismanage and abuse their livestock and I'll rescue particular fish of interest. Definitely a buyer beware notice, they are a low budget poorly managed store. I prefer Pets mart as their collection is more broad and their staff cares for their livestock and is definitely more friendly. read more

Tried to go here to have two dogs groomed. Their online appointment system makes it very difficult to book two dogs at the same time, so I booked them a couple hours apart. I was called later and asked if I could bring them in at the same time a day earlier, which I thought was great. Unbeknownst to me, this scheduler also increased the price by 21% versus what I had booked, sight unseen, and without explanation. When I arrived, after driving 50 minutes through blowing sand in rush-hour traffic, I was around 10 minutes late. I was informed that because I was SOOOOOOOO late, they could only do one dog, and I'd have to reschedule the other. I didn't catch the name of the employee, but she represented herself as the lead groomer. In any case, I decided to take my business elsewhere. It was already scheisty that she jacked up the price, but then to make me come back over 10 minutes was just too much. Acted like she was doing me a favor, as opposed to doing her job. read more

I was very disappointed to find that after spending almost $200 they wanted to sell me a plastic bag for 10 cents for my purchases. It wasn't the amount but the principle. The employee said I could always buy/use a reusable bag. If this is the wave of the future where retailers are going to start charging for bags, this is not a very nice way to treat customers. I am not young and it was very inconvenient having to make extra trips to unload my car and get the stuff into the house. I won't be going back to PetCo again any time soon. read more

Arrived at the store at 7:40 couldn't find anyone to help me with anything so I finally went to the cashier to ask if someone could assist me with getting some feeder fish they said sorry we can't do it after 730. When I asked why the response was that we are short staffed. He could've easily just said we're lazy which is actually the real reason because it doesn't take much effort to scoop 2 or 3 fish. We order dog food monthly from Petco. Sometimes the local store does the fulfillment. This time they used Door Dash for the delivery. Petco says the order was delivered but there's it wasn't. Door Dash says the package as left at the front gate. It wasn't. Called the store and the "customer service" person said my problem was with Door Dash. And, if I couldn't resolve it with them, I had to come down and pay for another order. First of all, I ordered from Petco...not Door Dash. Second of all, Petco subcontracted delivery of this order with Door Dash...I didn't. This isn't the first time this has happened with this store. I'd be careful if you order something and actually expect it to be delivered. And if it's not delivered, it's your problem to resolve. Horrible "customer service". read more

Today was my first experience going to the groomers and I must say I'm very happy with the service received! I was a bit nervous because we had just adopted my pittie who is very sweet but extremely timid with strangers. When we walked in to make an appointment, Alexandra was very helpful in setting our appointment and was so sweet to Abby. It was that moment, I knew I made a good choice in choosing Petco for our grooming spot. When the day came for Abby to get groomed, Samantha took care of Abby and she really exceeded my expectations. She was meticulous and noticed the problem areas Abby had (Pitbulls are notorious for skin allergies) also seeing how Abby was comfortable around Samantha made the experience even better. Some poor reviews on this site about the Laquinta grooming location . I had the opportunity to visit this salon several times prior to booking any appointments. I met Sarah and Sireli and both seemed very nice. I spoke to them about my dogs and my expectations. I proceeded to book all four of my dogs over the course of the next several weeks, and booked the biggest and most difficult to handle one first. He came out handsome, stress free and everything was done to my expectations. His nails were the most difficult thing, and he has actually attempted to bite several groomers in the past- of course I cautioned them of this . His nails were trimmed well, properly and he is not licking them ( thank you!) Three more to go, but judging how Sireli handled my big and difficult boy, I expect more great results - read more

Overall staff and customer service is a 5/5, but the reason I'm writing 3 stars is because I've heard numerous complaints about the groomers and so I saw this cute little white fluffy pup getting his/her hair done by a 28-35 year old lady with ombré hair and she was going HARD with the shaver on this poor pup. I get you close in 20 mins, but the dog looked so sad, shaking, looked very nervous, and uneasy. I went to the window to let it know that I was there watching/ not alone with her. She definitely got even more irritated with me by the window. I would recommend hiring groomers who actually care about the animals and their well being. Recently, I took my three little children (Terrier Dogs) for grooming. This was our first time in the Palm Desert store and have to say, I absolutely loved my experience. I was assisted by Morgan in the grooming department and all three of our children loved her. They wagged their tails upon meeting her and afterwards, she played with them as I was paying like they were her own. I'd highly recommend using Morgan at the Palm Desert store as she took extra special care of my children! read more

GROOMING IS HORRIBLE @ PETCO: 78720 CA-111, La Quinta, CA 92253 Took my dog to get groomed by SARAH and explained to her that my dog gets sensitive when being clipped near the chest/paw area. She responded with the attitude of "if your dog won't let me cut his hair I wont do it", not thinking much of her unprofessional response I received a call no less than twenty minutes to come pick my dog up because he was nipping at the clippers and not allowing her to cut his hair (dogs respond when being in an uncomfortable position and when being tended to sensitive areas - so how do you not expect to have to have some patience with an animal). She had told me that she needed the assistance of another grooomer to get the job done and still was not able to. I have no words for the stupidity in a person who doesn't have the patience to groom a dog. NUMBER 1: I don't understand how it is possible to give a dog a bath thoroughly and already start cutting his hair in less than twenty minutes. NUMBER 2: When I went to pick my poor dog up he had already been buzzed in the back once and looked so uneven that it was incomprehensible to understand how Sarah is a "petco-certified stylist". Of course she apologized for ten minutes but at the end of the day, this woman doesn't not know how to handle a dog nor have the patience to groom animals. At the end of the day, Sarah has embarrassed herself and her "job". She should not be working as a groomer if she cant even handle a dog for crying out loud. THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG NEAR A PETCO GROOMING SALON. Invest in a better grooming salon that is confident to get the job done. read more

This store steals your money by not giving you your rewards cash back to your account and even if I have your recipe they force you to get a store credit for the remainder balance that I paid with a debit card. The purchase was only a week old and new never used. Cashier wouldn't let me speak to the manager because he was busy. What ever you do don't use this store. read more
