I love this place! They have many services that I've had the pleasure of experiencing including shopping, grooming and Vetco on sundays. The staff in the store are very friendly and attentive. The groomers are such sweethearts with my girl, they cut my girls nails and have brushed her teeth before also. They're quick, efficient and kind to my puppy. As for Vetco, the assistants are always so kind to my dog. We've been here several times for all my girls shots, microchip ($20 is a great deal!), and Nexguard. The pricing here is great considering there's no initial consultation fee like most vets have and it's all walk-ins. When you already know what your pet needs, you should call and ask if they provide that service since you could be saving money! The veterinarian here is so so gentle and loving with all the animals. This review is for the Grooming department at Petco at 1873 Westwood Blvd. I was able to groom my other dogs at home, but my current dog is higher maintenance and needs professional grooming. I wasn't sure what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. My dog is a ten year old rescue with some sensitive spots, but Amber was able to complete all services -- bath, nails, ear cleaning, de-shedding, clipper trim -- with no issues. My dog and I are both happy today and we will be going back. read more

I was waiting for 20 minutes to drop off my dog for grooming. While I was waiting for an available associate to assist me, one of the associates took a call instead of helping me. She and the store manager saw that I had been standing there for 10 minutes and she still took the call. Then when someone finally did help me they told me they couldn't take my dog because he has seizures. Which is fine but that would have been helpful information the first two times I had been there before. I'll just shop at Chewy.com and take him to a grooming salon that's more experienced and organized. read more

This review is specific to the grooming services at Petco off Westwood Blvd. I wanted to schedule a puppy bath for a recently rescued golden retriever mix. I was able to talk to Momo in the grooming department who squeezed me into her busy schedule and conducted the entire grooming session. Momo was really nice and I could tell she really cares for the pets that she works with. Churro (our puppy) came out super clean and soft. I highly recommend working with Momo for her love of pets, her attention to detail, and for treating our puppy as if it were her own. read more

I passed 3 employees, I didn't ask for help, I thought my confused look would invite a "Can I help you," but no one made eye contact. After checkout I said, "Where are your shopping carts?" The woman said, "We have two." I said, "You lost a sale. I was gonna buy cat litter, but the bag is too big to carry around." She did not look up, and she said nothing. WORST Petco store I've been to with the RUDEST customer service. At checkout we simply asked if we could order online and then pick up immediately bc of a promotion online, the associate said no. So we asked why, and she said it's after 8pm so it's like STEALING. Like wtf, how is asking if we can purchase online and pickup now equate to freaking stealing. Then a manager came out and explained that they couldn't scan after 8pm which made perfect sense but all the associate cared to say was "that is like STEALING", with the most annoyed face. I understand that employees cant be experts in all areas, but it would be nice if they had a basic understanding of what could be fatal to the animals they're selling you. I went in to get a betta fish and aquarium, and it seemed like whenever I asked questions I would get a different answer from each different employee, as well as a different answer from the betta guide pamphlet that they give away! Regardless of their varying opinions on not so important things, any store that has an aquarium section should know the most important things about setting up an aquarium, so beginner hobbyists don't end up killing their fish.. About a week after I got my betta, he got sick.. after tons of research and reaching out to more experienced fish enthusiasts, I found out it was ammonia poisoning. I had no idea about the aquarium cycling process, and apparently neither did the petco employees. Or maybe they just wanted the sale and didnt care that the fish would probably die. Anyone looking to buy a pet from there DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH FIRST. THEY DONT KNOW OR CARE. read more

This is extremely disappointing. I used to love going here. I recently went to Petco for a grooming appointment. I frequently visit both the Westwood location 1873 Westwood Blvd and Santa Monica 2910 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica. My last visit to the Westwood location resulted in my puppy who is still getting leashed trained banned from all Petco grooming. Bc a groom has the authority diagnostic trachea. I understand if that individual does not feel comfortable with grooming but to affect my relationship with all Petco's is ridiculous. Especially when the puppy has been groomed with a different groomer at another location (more than once). read more

I've been taking my pug here for over 9 years for a bath. Over that time I have overlooked some minor annoyances (leaving cotton buds in her ears, not cleaning nasal folds properly, etc.). Recently I dropped her off for a bath and shortly thereafter was contacted and told I had to collect her IMMEDIATELY! - apparently she threw up while they were bathing her. On arrival they handed her back to me sopping wet, and refused to dry her! She was in no medical distress at all. Cut to today.... I called to book her a bath, and was told she had been banned from all Petco grooming salons. Quite surprised, I had to ask for a reason as one was not offered. I was told the Westwood location had put a company-wide ban on her. Again, having to ask why, I was told that she was too old. My dog just turned 13 but she is not, and has never been in any medical distress. The Westwood branch should have at least had the courtesy to discuss this with me, and shown the most basic of professional communication. IF there are insurance (or potential law-suit) based reasons for not taking dogs, then employees should be able to discuss this, and not make decisions without discussion. I cannot speak to purchasing actual pets here but the service at the front is great, though what I really wanted to highlight was the training here. I am fostering my brother's dog (Ube, a long haired doxie) and he had never been trained before, already 1.5 years old. Thought it would be a great idea to practice (for when we get our own doggo), and signed up for a 6 week session with Tim L, one of the trainers here. Due to timing and I think, just the situation week by week, we ended up getting almost 1:1 training time. Tim was amazing with Ube and was patient and thorough in explaining the techniques to us. We had homework we had to do weekly to practice all our new commands to ensure that the training would stick. Helped that Ube was actually quite easy to train... or maybe we were haha. My bf and I met with Jasbeth today for the puppy training 101. It was immensely helpful. We started trying the things we learned today, and it is already working. Jasbeth was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of our detailed questions. My bf and I were pretty stressed out with our 5 month old puppy with some of his behavioral issues, including biting us, biting everything in his vision, climbing on the bed, not going outside for the bathroom, what do to during the daily evening zoomies, etc., and we feel better knowing what to do. I have been coming here for pet supplies for years now, and I've only had good experiences with the products and the customer service. In fact, the fish department (where I most frequently visit) has had a couple of very knowledgeable guys working here, and they have given me great advice for a long time. The fish department also will test your water for free, and then recommend a slew of things should you be lacking in any one area (ph balance, dirty water, chlorine, etc.). Plus, if you buy a fish from them and it dies shortly after you bring it home, if you bring it back with a (separate - to maintain the integrity of it) water sample, and it passes their testing, they will refund your money. Today I came to get some feeder goldfish (13 cents each) for my Red Eared Sliders, and some dog food and treats for a neighbor's dog. Since I don't usually shop for dog food and treats, it was news to me when an employee said that if my (her) dog didn't like the treats or food, she can always bring it back for a refund. Now THAT is a good policy - especially for the picky doggies! The only negative I can say is that sometimes the fish department gets a little slow to help, because there usually is only maybe one knowledgeable fish guy around. So if a few people want fish, or aquarium advice, at the same time - it's wait your turn. The guys do take their time with each person they help however, making sure they answer all questions, so it's nice that they don't feel pressured to the extent that they rush. I also have come during the weekend doggie and cat adoptions that they hold here, and have heard of hamster ball races and Halloween pet picture events which are pretty cool. This is still the main store where I get my usual paraphernalia (filter replacements, pellet food, fish flakes, crickets or mealworms, frozen fish food, Ph balancing and dechlorinating chemicals, etc.), because it's close by, has a big parking lot, and is always stocked with what I need! read more

I had a good experience here. My roommate and I thought about co-owning a stray kitten, but I was unsure about it. Next day, she calls me and says we're getting the kitten! -_- Her friend's cat had a bunch of kittens and took this stray off the street to nurture her!! Reluctantly agreeing, we first went to Target. Man, they have like nothing. Then we went here. AMANDA ----- was unbelievably helpful. She taught us everything about having a new baby kitten. She gave us the low-down on formula vs. food, containers for their litter box, litter, kennels, toys, maybe using diapers (yeah - ha that's not going to work), possible fleas, she was very informative and ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS!!! Newborns over 6 weeks can start eating food, but since she was a stray I thought it would be better if we fed her formula with her food. She told me fleas can be easily controlled. She gave me the low-down on shots and such. Plus, I can call them if I ever have any questions. My roommate and I got a petco card. It costs about $80 all together. NOT BAD. read more

I paid for my item with cash and debit lost my receipt ask the GM Alicia to track down my order they didnt even try the suggested I need my receipt. I called customer service they bent a little and offered me store credit but asked for ID I offered my passport and she said she wanted an ID to scan. I called customer and they told my passport is valid to use as an ID for the transaction. Alicia was very hostile and aggressive and made me feel I was in the wrong when I know I'm not. Alicia and her crew were impolite, unprofessional, rude, and naive acting like I didnt know my rights. I strongly recommend not going to this particular store especially with all these movements going on like #Blacklivesmatter and still feeling racially profiled. read more

I was very impressed by this Petco. I called up because I wanted to pick up my pet supplies on the way to an appointment and had limited time. Alvin, the manager, gave me perfect directions on how to find the parking (an underground structure on Missouri) and pulled the items I needed from the shelf. When I got there all my items had already been pulled and were waiting for me behind the check out desk (he got everything 100% correct). Made the mistake of bringing my dogs for a grooming. They did a good job, but my god the emails. DO NOT EVER GIVE THEM YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. They will email you until the end of time with absolutely no way to unsubscribe. I don't understand companies that do this do they really think this will endear you to them? Pro tip to get off their email list you have to email: privacy@petco.com. Now I am looking for another groomer, and never want to cross paths with them. read more

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE YOUR PET TO SEE DR. NAOKO MIURA AT THIS OR ANY OTHER PETCO/VET LOCATION. She will not treat or help your pet. She is reckless, irresponsible, deeply rude, prejudice and offensive. She will scream at you in a language you may or may not understand, and ignore every one of your questions. I took my 2 year old dog into this location to get his annual vaccines. I had taken him to several Petco locations in LA (including this one) for other vaccinations before with no problems at all. Good staff, good service, clear communication and treatment every time. I'd also like to point out that the entire technician team at this location was incredible! Kind, well-communicative, patient, and handled many angry customers with compassion and professionalism. There was 15-20 angry pet owners when I came in, who had all been waiting upwards of an hour AFTER their APPOINTMENT time to see this pathetic excuse of a doctor. She clearly has no idea what she is doing given this excessive wait time for APPOINTMENTS, booked weeks in advance. Once I finally got in to see Dr. Miura, she did not look at my dog, touch my dog, or even look at me. She immediately put heart worm medicine in a syringe, and TOSSED it at me. She did not even hand it to me. The only English words she spoke to me were, "you can take this medicine home and give it to him. I'm not going to charge you for it." I asked why he couldn't be examined, receive the heart worm medicine from herself, and why she wouldn't speak to me about his annual vaccines that again, he has received at Petco before. Her only response was, "no vaccine. No," and then proceeded to scream at me in a language I do not know, so loudly that the other owners waiting outside to windowed room all turned and watched. I did not receive any reason or explanation as to why she wouldn't examine my dog, give him his medicine or his vaccines. I politely asked, but she marched into the corner of the exam room, got on her iPad, and turned her back toward me, facing the corner. Like a CHILD. The technician in the room present for all this was wonderful and apologized extensively for her unprofessional and blatantly disgusting behavior. He immediately offered to reschedule my dog to see a different doctor the following week, and offered me 20% off for that appointment to compensate for waiting an hour and 15 minutes AFTER my appointment time to not receive any services for my pet. It was at this time that Dr. Miura left the room and the technician apologized again and said, and I quote, "she's very difficult and all of this was very unnecessary. If it were me I would have given your pet the vaccines, but I'm not the doctor yet, and I can't force her to give him the vaccines. But she's very difficult and did not handle this well." Again, I cannot stress enough, if you love and care about your pet's well-being, you will not take your pet to see Dr. Naoko Miura. She WILL do harm, but she certainly will not help. I hope her license to practice veterinary medicine is revoked soon for the sake of pets everywhere. read more
