After my cat enjoyed a play date last week with two of his buddies (and former foster kitties), decided I had to buy this cool toy that had been brought over for sharing by the other cats' owner. Searched on the internet and Petco.com had it - added bonus, it was on sale. Ordered the toy and marked it for pick-up at the local Mount Pleasant store. I love that feature! Secure the item and pick it up next time I'm out. Received my email from Petco.com saying my order was ready, and it such a simple process. Go in, show them the email on my phone, give my name, and voila - the item is pulled from their cabinet up front (very close to the front door and quick), and I am on my way. This was the second time I had a terrible experience with Petco Grooming, and it will definitely be my last. The first time, I called ahead to make sure everything was in order before driving to my appointment. When I arrived, I was told my dog's rabies vaccination was out of date. No one mentioned this during the phone call, and because my vet was already closed, there was nothing I could do except leave and waste my trip. After updating everything, I scheduled another appointment and again called beforehand to confirm there would be no issues. I specifically made sure to bring proof of the rabies vaccination with me. When I arrived, I informed them that my dog takes Prozac daily for separation anxiety. They then refused service, claiming they could not groom dogs taking Prozac. This made no sense. Their website states restrictions regarding sedatives such as Trazodone, but Prozac is not a sedative--it's a daily prescription medication for anxiety. Instead of clearly explaining their policy, Jerry and another employee seemed unable to find the actual policy and were trying to reference unrelated documents. The entire interaction felt disorganized and unprofessional. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of accountability. No one apologized for the inconvenience, despite this being the second time I had called ahead specifically to avoid issues and the second time I wasted my time driving there for nothing. At this point, I have no confidence in this grooming department. If staff members can't accurately communicate or understand their own policies, it doesn't inspire trust in the quality of care they provide. This Petco needs new management! When I called this morning to see They if they had an open. They told me that they did for 12:30. THEY LIED!!!! I tried to call and no answer! I decided to go to the store and see what was happening? AT 5:30, they just started working on my little Maltese. That means my little guy was locked in a cage for over 4 hours with no water no food. By the way, the grooming would get a 2 out of 10. I was terrible! The Price is NOT cheap! After booking my grooming appointment 3 weeks ago, today was the day. I had an appointment set for 3pm but I got a call around 11 asking if I could come earlier because of some cancellations. I really could not and asked if I could keep my appointment for 3. Then I was asked if it was my dogs first time getting groomed (he is a doodle puppy) and I told them yes. The woman on the phone then insisted that she would not have time to groom him if I came in at 3 since he needed to get adjusted to the process. I had wished that I received this call about a week prior instead of the day of, but we settled on 2pm. I arrived and we go over what kind of cut I preferred and I mentioned that he had slight matting on his chest. He is a doodle so of course his hair is susceptible to matting and tangles. It is not where near severely matted. The groomer came out and insisted that she could not groom him because of the matting on his stomach because it was in a sensitive area. I'm sorry, but isn't this why I went to the groomer on the first place? It was a complete waste of time for me to rearrange my schedule to get turned away. They don't communicate effectively at all. Their staff lacks education and situational awareness. I dropped my dog off for a grooming appt at 9 AM and when I hadn't heard anything, I showed up at noon only to see that he had been sitting since 1030. My dog doesn't sit in crates, but he did for the last hour and a half in a scary environment. He is a very neurotic and anxious dog and as a customer what a horrible experience. I would never bring my dog back. I will never buy another item from Petco as a company. Chewy + Petsmart can have my money and support. read more

This store is well organized and it is easy to access and find exactly what you are searching for without much difficulty. They have good values on many items and it is worth coming in to check out the different specials that they have. My friend & I went into this Petco location in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, April 28th, 2022 to buy pet food. The moment we entered the store the strong smell of animal feces overcame us. We went directly to the pet food aisle to find it virtually empty. We wanted to ask for help, but several of the store personnel were working with a dissatisfied customer who was picking up her dog from being groomed. We immediately left & made a note to ourselves, "do not shop in this store in the future". I am in the West Ashley & Pawleys Island locations often (was in the Pawleys Island location today). These stores are always clean and well organized. They usually have ample inventory for the times & the personnel is extremely helpful. Hopefully, Petco will take a look at this location and make the changes needed to bring it up to the standards its customers have come to enjoy. read more

On July 14, 2020, my daughter dropped off our beautiful Pookie to be groomed. At 4:10pm she was contacted by the manager saying that Pookie had bitten his groomer. By 4:15pm my daughter was at Petco to pick him up and he was a totally different dog. By the time they got home it was 5:10pm. I got home 5 minutes later. Pookie was shaking and still standing by the front door. His breathing was labored and wheezy. I immediately called our vet and because of the time they referred me to the ER Vet Clinic. By the time I hung up the phone explaining that we needed to have Pookie seen immediately; he had passed away. This was 5:30pm. I called the next day to speak with the manager to get his side of the story. Evidently Pookie had not been vicious, but had bitten her (Rose) while she was shaving a bad matt in his paw. But that doesn't explain why we dropped off a very happy dog and picked up a dog that wouldn't live longer than 20 minutes after being home. I asked the manager to investigate further and to possible have the groomer call and talk with me. The manager did call me back, however, the groomer declined. I got no further information than what I already had. I told him of how Pookie was behaving when my daughter picked him up and he said that if they would have noticed that he was in distress they would have had their vet see him. If they had, maybe he would be alive now. While this was Pookie's first time being taking to the Charleston Veterinary Center in West Ashley, we received a sympathy card with each of the staff writing a note and signing the card...nothing was ever received from PETCO. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU TAKE YOUR PRECIOUS FUR BABIES TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. read more

I will never be back to this location. The North Charleston location is way better! Took my dog to vetco and was told I would be up in 20 minutes. An hour later I was sent back. Unfortunately I was only sent back to let them know what shots my dog needed and had to wait an additional 30 minutes before I was actually called back. It is cheaper than a regular clinic but not worth the hassle. Grooming has gone down hill too. read more

While not my favorite pet store, Petco in general (and this store in particular) has always come through in a pinch. I prefer to #shoplocal, but some things are just difficult to find in smaller shops. While Petco may not carry exactly what I need, there's usually a product that will do in a pinch. Even though there's a nearby WalMart, parking right in front of Petco is always available. Staff is courteous. The manager is awesome. read more

Still shocked and dismayed by the treatment we received at This Petco facility after 15 years Of grooming at Petco in Different states. One Yorky refused service bc she takes heart meds; her doctor says she is doing great. Policies different here apparently. BUT the other Yorky, also 14 years old, nearly toothless and scrawny was shoved in a bath then refused grooming bc he was biting the bather. The 6 lb dog was wet and trembling after rough treatment. Overall, I would give this store 2.5 stars, maybe leaning toward 3 stars. The only reason I continue to shop at this particular location is purely out of convenience. They are the closest to where we live and they always have an ample supply of the food we buy for our chihuahuas. Otherwise, I hate to say that not much impresses me. When you walk in you will be greeted by an overwhelming smell. Its a mixture of cedar and dirty dog. I've shopped at a lot of pet stores and can tell you, while its not unheard of to be hit in the face with an offensive odor, its also not necessary. I have noticed areas of the floor where the tile hasn't been cleaned well after a guest appeared to "mark their territory." On one occasion, there were multiple areas soaked in urine. This is an issue with customers not cleaning up after their pets, but also employees not caring for the store. On the note of the employees ... except for a couple people, there is a general lack of excitement happening. I always feel like most of the cashiers are just going through the motions with each transaction. If I'm shopping alone (ie: without one of my pups who likes to sniff each and every treat in the bone aisle) I do my best to get in, grab what I need and get out as quickly as possible. If another store opened nearby, I would likely shop there instead. read more

Let me tell you about my experience with the manager at Petco. He is rude, unprofessional and very unwelcoming to the local pet professional community. If you happen to be a dog lover, cat lover or a dog walker, pet sitter or a dog trainer I encourage you not to visit Petco. Because if you start a friendly conversation with someone regarding their darling six-month-old puppy and talk about dog training he will essentially throw you out of the store. In all my years of experience I've never encountered such a rude and unfriendly person working in the pet care field. The pet care world is a community of caring individuals that do what they do, for the love of the pets not for the almighty dollar. It is my experience that when someone is rude and unfriendly to people that person is rude and unfriendly to pets, so just a word to the wise, there are so many other places to shop for your pet supplies in Mount Pleasant, that skipping Petco should be very easy to do! read more

I used to take my dog here for training classes and for grooming. While the training classes are wonderful, my experience with the groomers has taken a serious dive since the last time I reviewed them and I cannot recommend PETCO in any way. I recently took my dog to get herself groomed here with specific requests about how she gets groomed: demat her front legs and ears, and only cut around her face and sanitary areas. I exchanged a few comments with the groomer, who seemed to understand my desire to keep her long hair the way it was, regardless of it's difficulty to keep mat-free. They took her and I left, asking what time I should come back. They gave me a window of 3-4 hours. I had my boyfriend pick her up for me, and it seemed that they had magically risen the price by 25 dollars. I asked why it was suddenly that much more expensive, and they explained that she is no longer a puppy after 6 months. This was news to me: I had taken her at 7 months for grooming, and not only did I NOT get charged this amount, nobody told me that they even HAVE this policy. It came out of the blue. When my dog finally came back from the store, I was shocked-- this was ABSOLUTELY not what I had asked for. They cut ALL of her hair, including the areas that I had asked to have kept long. Also, they cut her ears completely unevenly, so I had to try and even them out. She barely looks like my dog anymore! When I called the store manager to express my feelings about this, she told me that it's listed in the computer that I asked for something else and that the employees there said that I claimed to have asked for a different hairstyle than I wanted: obviously not true. After expressing my concerns and that even if I wanted this hairstyle, that it hadn't been done right, AND that they never gave me a confirmation receipt ("They left it on the counter for you," does NOT count-- how am I supposed to know that?!), the manager simply said, "It's all in our system now and I can't do anything about it." An offer of a refund, I believe, is always do-able, and sorry.. I can't do anything about the fact that I will never come back to this store to bring you business again. read more

I was highly impressed with the knowledgeable staff in the fish department at the location in Mt. Pleasant. They shared much helpful information on different species of aquarium fish, and set me up with all I needed for some goldfish I purchased. The store overall carries a great selection of pet supplies. I called and made an appt to have my dog groomed for the first time at Mt Pleasant location. I gave her my dog's info and she reminded me to bring his vaccination records from my vet. I showed up at my appt time with my records and reminded her my dog was 12 years old and to please be careful with the grooming leash that goes around their neck as he has a sore neck and back at times. She immediately told me they couldn't groom him or any dog that wasn't "healthy" or had a medical problem. It took us 30 min to get there to be turned down in person. My dog walks 2x a day for a mile and is healthy, goes to the vet for checkups, etc.. Total waste of time. I suggested they ask that question before booking an appt. (Is your dog healthy or have any medical issues) vs waiting until the client shows up for the appt. to be turned down. Very frustrating. Manager told me it was policy and could have really cared less. read more

I've been taking my 2 Australian shepherds to be groomed by Jana for about 4 years now. I trust no one else. My dogs are my kids and she treats them how i do. She understands the cuts I ask for and walked me through everything each time I asked for something different. She has pointed out spots on my dogs that I hadn't noticed and i was able to fix promptly. I recommend her to all my friends. We have had Beau groomed at the Mt Pleasant Petco several times, but this time was not good. He had major skin rashes from what seems to be razor burns. He also could not stop scratching and we had to bathe him at home to give some relief. He also had 2 cuts - one near his rear on the underbelly and one on his upper neck that we have been treating. Today I had my dog Bailey an English Springer Spaniel groomed. Sam Lord was wonderful. She did a great job on the bath, cut and nails for my dog. Although I said I would be back to pick her up at Noon, she was not ready and I had not received a phone call. I went and grabbed lunch, paid a bill then returned and she was ready. This is one of the worst businesses I have ever dealt with! I'm surprised Petco corporate keeps this store open because they cant be making any money with the way this store is being run. My experience has been that employees pretend they dont see you or, if they see you coming down an aisle, they will quickly turn around and escape to another aisle to avoid having to answer any questions you may have. Heaven forbid you interrupt their "personal texting" time on their phones with "silly questions" about whether a product happens to be in stock. As soon as you walk into this place, you can see its a disaster- half-stocked shelves with many pallets in the back waiting to be unloaded, aisles so cluttered that some are impassable, employees walking around and ignoring customers, and the list goes on. Petco corporate needs to send someone in to take a look at this mess and either clean it up or closed the doors for good! read more

Love this store. They are always kind, attentive, service oriented and available to help. I buy food, toys and leashes on line which is super convenient. We had our first grooming with them yesterday. I am very pleased. In the past groomers have left them with shaggy ears and chins. These ladies were attentive to my requests, took extra time to ensure they were well cared for, brushed their teeth and buffed their nails. I am more pleased than I have been with any groomer. The staff was very kind and didn't complain that it took longer than expected. I said thank you several times and backed it up with a tip. We will go back and maintain a regular schedule. These days service is so underrated but I have never experienced that here. This consistently seems to be their norm. This gives me confidence for relying on them for our ongoing pet needs, grooming food and supplies. read more

I went to PETCO because we were dog sitting my son's dog and the dog was a mess! I went to the store on North Hwy 17. I needed an extra large dog bed, food and something to deal with his "itchy scratchy". Chrisy was working on the computer and when I asked her about the dog beds she got up and helped me with everything - even went outside to get me a cart. She was helpful and knowledgeable without being pushy. Best service I've had in a store in a long time! read more

I went into the Mt Pleasant store & spoke to the women in charge of grooming...the girl that I was using left & if this is how they handle things I can see why! Anyway..Jenna never had groomed my dog before & I just wanted to touch base with her & let her know my dog was 16 & I perferred her not to caged for a long period of time.. Someone had written in the computer that my dog was a liability ! Jenna said she would call me as soon as she talked to her manager... Well....you guessed it.. NO PHONE CALL !!!!! I now wouldn't do business with them even if they paid to groom my dog ! I just moved to the area and gave the groomer Tracy a try. Not only was she unpleasant and rude, her grooming skills were not up to par. i highly recommend you not try this groomer. Having many experiences with different groomers, its obvious that tracy lacks the proper training and people skills. when you walk in to make your appointment, she is extremely standoffish and short with you. when you pick up your dog, it wasn't what you agreed upon. it's worse. thankfully my dogs hair will grow back, but we will never visit this groomer again. read more
