Went to purchase a bubble tip anemone and only two tagged species of anemones available: bubble tip and mini carpet. Purchased the anemone only to discover when I got home it was a long tentacle. No tags were up showing mutiple AC species on sale either. This store needs intervention to ensure policies are in place. Now I'm stuck with an anemone not really suited for my nano tank. read more

Simply put, don't buy fish here. They low does all the tanks constantly for ice and now it appears they have med resistant ice in their tanks. Sick fish, dead fish ,all the time. If you ansoutley can't help yourself, use a quarantine tank for two weeks before letting their stock into your tank. read more

After grooming her myself and two other professional grooming experiences, they still refused her over the phone because she has not been "trained" to get a hair cut! This store is dirty, and the employees are not helpful. I stopped in with my dog on the drive between STL and Chicago to use the bathroom. I was hoping that my dog could get a drink of water inside, but I couldn't find a doggy dish with water anywhere. I asked a cashier if they had one set up and she looked at me like I was crazy. A water dish for dog customers should be routine, especially in the summertime. read more

Once sold me a pet ramp that was in the box (for my dog to get in/out of the truck). Got it home and opened it and it was obviously a well used ramp that was returned! Manager was unapologetic. Amazon.com does better than Petco (especially if you're a Prime member) and switched to Premium Pet Supply for all our pet food. Terrible experience with this store. I bought a $30 fish on 9/15/18 on 9/20/18 I come home to find the fish dead. Petco didn't inform me at the time of purchasing that the do t guarantee salt water fish. So I'm out of $30 and they aren't willing to do anything to make it right. I had my dog groomed once a month. I purchased a Pet Care service which was $20 at the time, mainly bec I could get huge savings for grooming. When I came for my last appointment, a couple of months ago, the salon was vacant. It turned out that my dog's groomer had quit and there were no other groomers available. I was told that as soon as they have a groomer, I would get a call back. I never received a call back, so I had to book at another salon. My dog needs to be groomed again, and I finally got through a customer service person who told me that my regular groomer had returned, but I never got a call-back. I was again promised that I would get a call-back from grooming supervisor. I have not gotten a call-back. I would like to have a refund for paying out-of-store groomer and cancel my Pet Care service. Very bad customer service; staff not available and not helpful. Pet Care is a scam. read more

Took our dog in for grooming as it needed to be done ASAP and our usual groomer is out of town. Most important items were clipping his nails, especially the dew claws as they were getting very long, and expressing his glands. It was a bad experience for 4 reasons: 1. During the visit, several employees made it very awkward when they wouldn't take "No thank you, he actually has allergies and we have to be careful with his diet" as an answer when offering treats. Each of them persisted with "I don't think these have..." Stop right there. I'd rather be absolutely sure. I get that you're trying to be nice but we said no thank you for a very legitimate reason and you're making it awkward. I know what's best for my pup and you won't have to deal with it later when he's puking and scratching himself raw because you "thought" the treat was ok. 2. Once we got home and I bent down to give him his food bowl, I notice that his dew claws weren't even touched. 3. Normally, when the glands are expressed, we don't experience any "leaks" for at least a month or so. NOT THE CASE HERE. We had several within days of the visit. If you've never had a dog with anal gland leakage, let me just tell you that it's not pleasant and it can't just be wiped down - it's all got to go in the wash immediately. 4. For the same price at our usual groomer, we also receive a medicated bath in addition to the same services received here. read more

I had such a bad experience with Petco. I have taken my dog Hamlet to get groomed and when I returned the lady said my dog was too stressed and I could never bring him back. (although I had brought him there at least a handful of times before and had no complaints) Anyways, right after I took him to Pet smart and they were wonderful, they also had more people working whereas, at Petco , it was that one rude lady only. I recommend PetSmart...they met my dogs needs and are so kind and helpful. I went into the store around 6:30 on Friday evening to get some information about buying my daughter a hamster for Christmas. I had a hard time finding an associate and finally found someone playing with the cats in the front of the store. She told me she was busy but would call someone on her radio to help me. I waited almost 15 minutes and went to find someone again. The gentleman said he was also busy but would send someone. Keep in mind there were probably not even 10 customers in the store. I then waited ten minutes more before I got fed up and walked out. When I walked out the door there were 5 employees just laughing and chatting with each other by the cash registers. I ended up spending around $100 at PetSmart which was a great experience! I will not be going back to Petco in the future. read more

I desperately needed a dog kennel as my puppy destroyed his that day. I called PetCo to see what they had in stock. After realizing they had exactly what I needed, I drove there to buy it. Truly disappointed in the customer service. Must have gone downhill in the last year. We got a great panther chameleon from here a year ago and had great service then. Today we were here and we asked to see the hamsters, with full intention of buying one. Their response was "Well, we closed like a minute ago" and just acted disgusted we would even ask. I didn't even realize the time. We came from Peoria, so it's not like we can just drop by tomorrow. It's obvious that who gave me that response today is definitely not the owner, because if you owned the store, you would go out of your way to make the sale and to also not make my daughter cry. Had a bad grooming experience in which my 6 month old puppy was there for 6+ hours. The grooming employee was rude, defensive, and unapologetic when questioned about the length of time the service took. Extremely disappointing as a previous grooming experience with another grooming employee was quite favorable. To make matters worse, the manager just didn't seem equipped to handle my concerns. Lots of products, chain-store environment. Same thing that you would see at PetSmart and its affiliates - concrete floors, spacious aisles, furniture, food, litter, collars, leashes, shampoo, etc. Prices are more expensive than other stores in the chain, no kidding. My cats' food here is $36 for 17 pounds and $28 in Champaign for the same product. Employees turn over quickly; I have heard negative reviews of management (employee treatment (grooming especially), financial management skills, and crew training) from two 2 year+ employees. They do give an abundance of "educational" shows for community groups, though. I took a kid I was babysitting to a show for his boy scout troup, and the employee pulled out snakes, lizards and assorted reptiles while telling the kids all about their biology and history. It was pretty cool for that age group. Nonetheless, open pet policy, (mandatory) donations to pet groups, overcrowded on the weekends when volunteers set up in the aisles to push adoption of shelter animals, and high prices. read more
