My corgi had a bad nail experience at a Petsmart during the pandemic (it's the only appointment we could get) and the ladies over at our petco understand my pup gets a little uneasy and needs to be coached and kissed during a nail trim now. I used to go there all the time and there was two girls who did an amazing job grooming my dog, however, few months ago there was this guy who did an terrible job and when I reported it, they asked me to come back the price I was supposed to pay was double because they added more services my dog didn't need. This week I scheduled an appointment and I received an call from the same guy who did a lousy Job and refuse to groom my dog, then I rescheduled the appointment then call me to cancel the appointment again. I spoke to the supervisor about it and there was no resolution from this matter. This is not professional at all and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Petco took NO responsibility to my pet getting hurt while being groomed. I highly suggest Do NOT bring your pet there. Especially Senior dogs. They make excuses saying the pet wasn't hurt there. LIES as my dog was perfectly fine when we entered the building. When we got home he couldn't walk on his left leg. Making excuses saying maybe my dog doesn't like to be groomed seriously what does that have to do with my dog being hurt made no sense what the girl was saying just shows they have no experience. my dog has been groomed since he was a puppy and enjoys it. This Petco is one of their larger stores. They have a large saltwater section and have, on occasion, had somewhat knowledgeable staff. Although these stores often get a bad reputation for places to buy livestock, I have had pretty good success. Sadly, with the decline in knowledgeable local fish stores, sometimes places like Petco are your only option. If I need something right away, and am unable to get to my favorite fish store in North Providence I will come here instead. Their selection is fair, and they have most things that you could want. Although I do wish they carried better quality salt and chemicals. read more

Thanks for nothing - we go to get our dogs nails trimmed all the time there and with 10 min before a an appointment this lady wouldn't trim ONE of my dog's nails that literally takes way less than 10 minutes, historically anyway. Guess we won't be back. She spent more time telling me she wouldn't be able to do it than the time it would have taken to trim them. I should also mention... She was in the back for quite some time with nobody around before she actually came out to talk to me. Think that wasn't planned? My now one year old pup has been groomed at petco in Dartmouth a few times. Groomed monthly and I adore PETCO Taunton for grooming. But my most recent grooming closer to home in Dartmouth and just an awful experience. Not sure total cost for grooming and bought the extra flea and tick treatment--- but around $100. When i arrived to pick up once they called--- no bow in her pony tail... asked if they found any ticks (bad this season despite the good collar) she said just one. And i asked if she did Tick and flea treatment and she asked someone else--- and then grabbed a little squirt thing and put a few drops on my pups neck and said all set. Pups face was dirty but assumed maybe from eating treats? Later that night I found a large tick on her snout. About the size of large nail head. Full of blood. Clearly face not cleaned or clipped--- nor check for ticks! The next day she began licking her paws which she never does and later that day paws bleeding all over house. Back paw had fair amount. I thought she had ripped something---- had no idea what was wrong until saw her bleeding from her nails. I pulled my cameras to make sure nothing had happened---- just saw her licking her paws. Petco Dartmouth please dont do this to another pup. I only went to you as during covid no reputable groomer had any availability for new pups. It is inhumane having people not qualified to groom dogs allowed to butcher their nails like this. Maybe give baths... but this should have never happened. read more

This is the largest petco I've ever been to!!!!! I frequent the aquatics section as my boyfriend and I have many many tanks of fish. The had a small section oof coral frags, and a much larger selection of freshwater and saltwater fish. They also had a few brackish water fish which isn't something I usually see at petco. Eddy was in the aquatic section and helped Us out. He knew a lot about the fish we were interested in and how they would get along with other fish inn our tanks. read more

Today we came in to buy some fish and met Ben!!! not only was he knowledgeable about the fish no matter what I asked about he seem to know about everything in the store with detail!! He went out of his way to help us never once did I feel rushed or forced to buy anything!! yet I bought so many things that I was not there for because he took time to explain the benefits of the reward system perfectly. in the end I ended up saving over $150 it's nice to meet people that like their job and are knowledgeable really think he could've ran that store by himself. "Bottom line is you have a great employee on your hands treat him well" My Husband says I say make him management or lead of training at all your locations.The world needs Bens!! read more

Meh...the store is okay I guess, but I am commentating about puppy play time. I thought it would be great for my 8 week old puppy, who is not the least bit shy, but when confronted by a 3 month old bully, she hid under the chairs and whined and snapped at the bully the whole time we were there. She was frightened and the petco employee in charge said this was normal puppy play time behavior. Well, I don't think so...a bully is a bully is a bully. Why would I set my puppy up to be fearful ? I have seen her with multiple big dogs, and if the approach is correct, the meeting goes well. A bully puppy should be separated from younger pups. Won't be back. read more

I own two short haired cats that shed like crazy. I brush them often but figured I'd take them to a groomer to get a good brush out. I called around many groomers in the area. Most places didn't even offer cat services, or they wanted to charge an arm and a leg. I ended up calling Petco in Dartmouth and was pleased to hear they do offer grooming services for cats. It's a walk-in service so I took them in today, a Tuesday afternoon around 1PM. There is only one groomer who specializes in cats, and thankfully she was there. They were able to get us in fairly quickly. Both my cats did a wonderful job. Everyone we met seemed incredibly nice. The woman who brushed my cats did great, way better than I could ever do! I couldn't believe how much hair came off my two cats. She seemed to take care to brush them out well. The service was $10 per cat, which is a great deal! I would definitely come back here for my cats to get brushed every so often, to control the shedding in my house. read more

Went in to look for a dog harness, we were ignored by every single employee, left with nothing because we couldn't get 1 to fit. The store was a huge mess with missing tags and misplaced merchandise everywhere. The thing that got me really ticked off though, was that all the restrooms were locked& labeled for employees only. I went to Petco this morning and bought 2 dogs treats and there was a sign Mix and Match 20% off. Got to the register and the woman running the register was already upset because the register was slow to start up ( Mind you this is 10am Sunday morning) once she rang everything up I said I thought it was 20% for mix and match. My fault I didn't read the fine print. So she proceeds to use her WalkieTalkie over the loudspeaker in the store. What an embarrassment !!! I don't understand stand now a days no one has any courtesy for the customer. Well anyway I didn't get the 20% off but I did walk away embarrassed. Thank you to the register woman. I have taken my little Yorkie to some of the highest rated dog groomers. I always had some problem. He gets nervous and scared to go. BUT Jessica at North Dartmouth Petco is the best! She always Does a great job she listens to what I want And she actually cares about the animal she is grooming. I will continue to return to this Petco and Jessica. I was discusted when I was there the other day hamsters under stress in the cages jumping all over the place not in a playfull manner over stressed some with nit makes from over housing. Then the worst was in the reptile section where a poor iguana was in the tank under fed burn on his back and a worm ( parasite ) coming out of his ear. I went to petco to buy some fish for my new fish tank. The worker assisting me was very nice. He asked me if I had the water to test from the fish tank and I didn't. He said that we can try a couple fish. His exact words were.. if they croak there's a 30 day guarantee on the fish and they will test the water and help me get it right. Then he tells me I need to get a minimum of 3 fish. I take the 3 fish home and after just hours of the fish being in their new tank they were dead. I called petco and told them they died and the girl over the phone said.. yup you have 30 days just bring the dead fish separate from a water sample. I went back with my water sample and this was a different worker now. He checked the water and his exact words were.. this wouldn't have killed the fish but the nitrates are high and because of that I can't give you a refund. The workers should stop telling customers that the fish are guaranteed for 30 days because obviously it comes with stipulations. They should say it's 30 day guarantee as long as the water passes our test. No instead the worker I had knew I had a new tank that the water wasn't tested and still told me it was ok to fill it with fish because of their 30 day guarantee. I tried talking to the manager there but she just referred back to the fish boys. I called customer service when I got home. They were completely useless. They were going to offer me coupons. I told them I didn't need any coupons because I won't be shopping at their store anymore. The only reason I gave it two stars is bc most of the workers are very nice. It's also very expensive. We had the best experience at this Petco grooming last week. I'm not usually a huge fan of Petco grooming, but last week our dog got sprayed by a skunk. We called them the following morning and they got us in immediately first thing that morning, they even called our vet for our dogs rabies info since we didn't have that printed out on hand. When we picked him up, practically the whole staff was there to give us an update on his grooming and also more information on dealing with skunk spray. They gave him a cute bandana, and let us borrow their leash because ours was also covered in skunk smell. After dealing with an incredibly frustrating experience, our experience at this Petco grooming location was refreshing to say the least. We will definitely return here and we want to thank the staff so much. read more

Excellent customer service in this store.. I visited for the first time after having a bad experience at a local Petco and while I was considering going to a different Pet Store chain, I decided to give this Dartmouth store a chance and i'm glad I did. The store was 100 times cleaner than the store I'd just left, the store was also A LOT busier and they manage to keep it clean.. The Fish Department was triple the size of the Middletown store and in a much better location so you could actually see what you were looking for and you didn't have to spend a half hour hunting down a salesperson, They come right to you after a few minutes. Bri waited on me tonight, and she was awesome. I had no problem getting the fish I wanted (the second fish I wanted was out of stock) she was very nice, polite and sympathetic regarding my issues at the other Petco store. The store itself was bigger, more well stocked and the cashier was very friendly as well.. This store is about 20 minutes from me and I'll be going to this store in the future for anything I may need. The excellent customer service makes it well worth the extra time to get there! I can't comment on grooming, since my cats don't need it, so read the other reviews for that! read more

I love going here. I can bring my dog in with me and she goes nuts seeing all the toys. And it also is great to get your dog to learn to socialize with both people AND other dogs!! They have everything you can imagine when it comes to most pets. I'm not crazy about the snake section buy I just avoid it. Lol. If you've never been, it's a great place to check out. I've been taking my 8 year old puggle to be groomed at Petco for at least 5 years now. The last time I went in they said they needed "a letter of clearance" from my Vet since Brady is on medicine to treat his seizures. I called my vet and she was so confused because grooming is not a trigger for seizures but she sent me a letter anyways after she told me that maybe it's time to look for a new groomer. Today I go to bring my dog in and they tell me it's a brand new policy that any dog on daily meds can't be groomed there. I can't even believe this place is allowed to have dogs come in there since they are clearly not even educated on stuff they are banning. I will be sure to bring my dogs elsewhere from now on as they have just lost a loyal customer. read more

I got my cute little Yorkie groomed here and I can say with confidence I will never, ever return to this store or any other petco to get my dog groomed. The groomer cut his back leg and they had to rush him to the nearby vet to put him under anesthesia (yes, that bad) and stitch him up. I got a phone call after they had brought him to the vet to tell me what happened. I was horrified. My dog is now terrified of the groomers and freaks out whenever scissors get anywhere near his body. Especially his backend. He has been scarred for life (literally). The groomer didn't seem to care too much and also mentioned "oh my scissors were just sharpened too!" I am hoping she got fired after this incident. I reached out to the corporate offices and they told me that they treat an injury like a car accident- and pay for repairs (vet bill) and that's all they do. All I wanted was to ask some very basic questions about hamster care. Waited for several minutes while a girls at checkout looked at me without acknowledging my existence. Then waited in the checkout line to ask if I could get some help. Girl paged someone, never came. Several minutes later, paged again. Never came. I ended up leaving without ever having been assisted. My husband and I were rescued by our dog several years ago. Now that he is a little older we cannot just give him regular treats but something for his arthritis. The customer service representatives out on the sales floor were courteous and made recommendations accordingly and within our budget. I come here from time to time for pet supplies, and purchased my precious little ferret from here, but will most likely never purchase any reptiles from here again. I got a baby corn snake and when I got home I noticed it was infested with mites. They were so deeply burrowed into the little guy that he didn't have a chance at survival. I bought mite spray anyways and followed all the directions, and then the poor thing started squirming in pain and curled up into a ball and died right in my hands, the day after I had bought him. I was absolutely devastated. I went back to petco with him in his box and explained what happened. They checked their other reptiles and as it turns out every. single. reptile. that they had, had mites. How does that go unnoticed? Aren't employees handling these animals and cleaning their tanks and examining them to make sure they're healthy? I was given a refund, but it doesn't make up for what happened to my little pal and all the other reptiles. read more
