It's a smaller Petco than some of the others but they have what you need to get by. They sell the Merrick brand which isn't sold at PetSmart. Not a huge fan of their grooming talents but it's conveniently located near my job. When I went there people were fundraising out front which is usually a turnoff and parking is very limited. If you need something quick this isn't a terrible location. It's small so it's easy for long lines to form but it's usually not a lot of folks. read more

THE GOOD: Wide selection of foods for my dog, fish, turtles, and chinchilla (yes, I know, it's quite a herd...). I wish they carried Taste of the Wild dog food, but they do have other excellent brands like Nutro and Blue. Their staff can be excellent, when they keep the good ones around. Brandon has great knowledge of their products. Rene is always upbeat and a joy to see. But, it seems to have a very high turnover rate at this store; more than PetSmart for instance. People rant about the parking and it really isn't so bad, it's just that the lot is in an L shape and it's a little weird to get used to. THE BAD: Prices are high. When compared to online prices, I find PetCo's prices higher on almost everything. I wish they sold parts to the products they sell. For instance, I bought an all-in-one turtle tank with top and lights, but they don't sell the replacement bulbs. Likewise, I can't get the black filter element for the filter system they sold me. Glad to have experienced excellent customer service by Scott, the manager over the past few weeks. He really knows his inventory, as well as helped troubleshoot our new pets and assisted with vet care. Scott is patient and pleasant with customers! Jose was also very caring and took care of us at the register and with the vet appointment. I'm glad that they now match their prices on petco.com. They have good inventory and variety for small pets products. We were able to find a brand of hamster food here that did not contain peanuts or Timothy hay, which the kids are allergic to. This review is for the grooming service at this Petco location. I brought my dog here for the first time on March 20, 2021, where he got a full bath and cut by Alex who did a wonderful job. I made another appointment for today June 30, at 9:45 am with Sarah R. for just a bath, but she refused to bathe my dog because he's a senior dog with arthritis even though he's been bathed AND cut here before!!! My dog has been groomed countless times before at petsmart, other groomers, EVEN AT THIS SAME LOCATION and he's always received great praise and has never caused any issues. The manager Colby who I'm pretty sure was there on 3/20/21 turned us away even though no one performed a "7 point inspection" of my dog. Not only is my dog on galliprant arthritis medication, my dog's arthritis has even improved since 3/20/21 because he's lost weight, so it makes no sense why he was provided grooming on 3/20/21, but not today 3 months later. We were never told that my dog could not be groomed due to his arthritis the first time we came here even though I notified Alex that my dog does have arthritis. I would totally understand if they turned us away the very first time on 3/20/21, but it is so unprofessional and a waste of our time to arbitrarily refuse to provide grooming when my dog has already been groomed here before with no problems. They clearly don't have good communication between their staff nor on their website because it doesn't say anything about arthritic dogs not being allowed there. And they were acting all high and mighty about "doing what's best for the dog". Ummm where was this concern the first time we were here then? And newsflash but none of you are veterinarians or even vet techs. My vet has never EVER once told me that my dog is not healthy or strong enough to get bathed or groomed. I like Petco over it's competitor mainly because it's affordable and I can always find what I'm looking for here. It's not as fancy smancy, but it does the job. The workers here have always been great and helpful. I went in there after my dog received an antibiotic shot for kennel cough that she contracted from a foster dog. She was feeling crappy already and didn't want to walk anymore...she basically plopped down on the ground and wouldn't move. I have a 55 gallon fresh water tank and this is my first choice of pet stores to go to. We have 4 orange and black Platys, 3 Blackshirt Tetras, 4 neons, 1 Dragon Goby, 1 plecostomus and about 200 babies and counting from the Platys! Unfortunately my tank can't support that many fish - but lucky to find out by talking to their fish expert, Chuong, they accept donation fish and they adopt them out to good homes! The fish expert, Chuong, is great - he is very friendly and knowledgeable. I like to go in and see the cats that are up for adoption, and the rabbits - would love to come home with them all! read more

Pasadena Petco with a few problems. Most aisles are partially stocked and never completely full, seemingly always low on merchandise with plenty of empty spaces on the shelves. Some items are regularly replenished, while others you may never see again. Prices vary, but overall the only real savings at Petco are from the rewards program and subsequent coupons. Employees are often scarce, so you're pretty much on your own. Can't find your product? Keep looking. It's easy to shop at this store and never speak to a single person until checkout, and even then minimal grunts and chirping sounds will suffice. You might be lucky enough to find one or two cashiers lurking near the front. Something about handling products and scanning them at the point of sale is very awkward for the Petco people. Just wanted to do a quick shout out to all the Petco employees there, especially Scott!! (: My fur babies recently got a flea infestation. I came to buy some chewing tablets & vet's+best home spray. I was in dismay when I realized they seemed to be out of almost all products because I guess alot of people have been having flea issues and beat me to it. Thankfully Scott was there to save the day when he told me a little life saving secret. He said that the one for cats is actually the same as the one for dogs. Apparently the company that makes VETS+ BEST HOME SPRAY simply change the levels for marketing purposes. This is new to me. So in case you guys are in the same dilemma as I am theres a little tip. Don't bother with Petco for grooming services. The only review I can provide is that it is a waste of time and very poor customer service. They turn customers away for walk-in nail trims. I arrived at 7pm, after waiting in line at the grooming desk, they asked if I was there for grooming. That really was an unnecessary question. They then proceeded to tell me that because they had only two other dogs, they were too busy for a 3 minute nail trim. Very poor service and they can't deliver on advertised services and processes. I have only the highest praise for this Petco and the dog trainer, Holly Chen. We adopted a rescue terrier mix puppy and Holly has been working with us in private lessons. Chelsea responds remarkably well to Holly's training (like Holly reads her doggie mind), and what she learns at Petco translates to our home. Holly is amazing in her ability to understand Chelsea and communicate with her. She uses only positive training, no punishment or pain needed for remarkable results. We will start group lessons at the end of the month with Holly, but already our time alone with her has been invaluable. Life at home is much, much better. Puppy playtime has been great for our previously timid pup. After 3 sessions, Chelsea no longer hides under the chair, but plays with the big pups. It's amazing what socialization can do for a scared puppy. And Holly is great, monitoring all of the interaction between the various sized puppies so everyone stays safe and happy. Not only that, if I mention an issue I'm having with Chelsea, Holly helps me pick out a treat or food or collar that is perfect for her. I am so happy with our experience with Holly Chen and Petco, I never knew that so much excellent help was available in one store. read more

I'm very upset that the Petco vet in the building next to the actual store shut down. I wonder why... They lost my cats records. Just ridiculous. I spoke to a manager of the store who gave me a number for a records company and they couldn't find my cats chart. She's been going there since she was a kitten and all of the sudden they are closed with no where to find her records??? Wtf am I supposed to do?? My dog had been treated her whole life at Petco, they helped us through her final illness. Then our other dog, by then old himself got diabetes. Petco really helped us. What really impressed me was the vet had the dog on a dog bed pad in his own office to monitor him the whole day. We lost him anyway, he was an older dog, with a wonderful life. He hated his nails cut, even though part pit bull would scream and whine, so we had to have them done. Petco got it done, without a fuss, and no pain meds, we really thank them. I am sad that others had problems, having worked in an ER for six years plus, it happens, and it never is easy to be the one that it happens to. But I think Petco has been great and hope they maintain that standard of quality and care. read more

WORST Petco experience EVER! Very rude and racist. Today I carried a package box from a local ups store and went to get a kennel from the local petco. While I was waiting at the entrance for my uber driver I already told the staff the package box is from me. When the car arrived I brought the kennel first into the car and when I went back to get my package box one of the staff is ripping my package box. Wtf? Excuse me? The uber driver and the entrance was only FEW FEET AWAY. I was only away from my box for 5 secs and they were already ripping my box. I told the staff I was putting the kennel first into the car and coming for the heavy box next. He started telling me there was no one there for this package box but I already told a staff that box belonged to Me. He then walked off casually AS we are good terms? Never apologized once. How about taping my ripped box back? This is so rude and racist. He thinks I'm asian and can talk shit like that to me as if I won't act back. There's something sinister about this Petco. Yes this is the most awfully evil Petco I've ever encountered. I went here twice within a weekend with an adorable pooch I was pup-sitting and the workers here were as helpful as herpes on a prostitute. 1st occasion - I had the pup with me and we were searching for dog diapers. He's a tiny terrier/Chihuahua mix so I was skeptical that they even had diapers to fit his small frame. When I got there of course the employees were swooning over my adorable pooch and they SAW how small he was and said they had diapers to fit him. OK GREAT I was frustrated with him pissing and spraying everywhere the diapers sounded live heaven. SO she showed me the diapers and they were HUGE compared to the dog. I told the sales woman NOOO this wont work and she INSISTED that they would. She even put one in the puppy and I placed him on the counter . He didn't move just sat in his diaper looking at me with these cute eyes saying "this bitch is STRAIGHT tripping if she thinks this diaper fits". I asked her are you sure this is how it looks and she confused me by asking me "isn't that how its suppose to look". Well SHIT yes! I thought so I purchased them. When I got home I placed my pooch on the floor he wouldn't walk. These diapers were evidently paralyzing. But then something HORRIBLE happened. HE WIGGLED OUT this oversized diaper and pissed right in front of my feet. I was disrespected by the woman and the pooch all in one instant. $12 Wasted!!! 2nd Occasion- Same cute pooch. Came in employees swooned. Looked for the puppy food by my damn self since the first exp went horribly wrong. Couldn't find the shit I was looking for. SO I got the ONLY pup food I saw. It said "For every 5 lbs feed 2 cans of food a day" Great :D went to check out and asked the cashier "how many cans would u suggest for a dog this size" (he was wayyyyy less then 5 lbs he was basically 9wk newborn fetus dog) She asked her manager and she read the instructions from the can and said I needed to GO HOME AND WEIGH THE DOG AND THEN DIVIDE BY HIS LBS" HOL UP TRICK !!!!! WTF! NOT HELPFUL! I do not own a damn scale that weighs in ounces cause Im sure that dog couldn't be more than 5 lbs. I found a Petcube on the Petco website and I went to the store to get a price match. However, when I got to the register the cashier told me that the item online was different than the one I had. The item at the store had more futures, therefore it was more expensive. The cashier, Omar, was very helpful helping me find the correct item online and figuring out the correct price. While he was helping me, this rude man approached the register and wanted to know "what was going on"? He was upset because he was waiting in line. The store was busy and there were other cashier but this man just had a problem with Omar being helpful to us and helping us find the correct product and price. New to town, proud loving owners of a happy healthy bearded dragon. We were seeking a new shop to buy our little one her food. Stopped by this place after finding small pet shops had no idea how to care for reptiles. To our shock, Petco was NO BETTER! All the tubs tubs of super worms for $5.99, black and dead! Some even had gnats in the tub! This could kill a reptile! Healthy live super worms are golden brown shiny and very active. Petco CLEARLY does not check their shelf stock. We reported this to cashier lady and presented her two tubs of these parasitic dead worms and even she was already aware of them carrying bad pet food and had already received complaints previously. Clearly Petco is in no hurry to correct their wrongs. I wonder how many pets have been harmed due to purchases made at this store.... read more

This place is horrible. There's only 2 employees in a 20 thousand square feet store. Walked in here to get a few things for the puppy and no help. At all we left because we needed some advice. The lady at the register had 20 people in line and had a look on her face like her dog just died or something. So we left went to pet smart in east PASADENA where we always usually go. We stop by here to get one spray since we where in the area so we don't go all the way to the other side of Pasadena but hey guess what it's worth it because 20 employees come up too you and ask you if you need help when you step into pet smart. Do not go to this Petco! We adopted our beautiful puppy Falkor here a few weeks back. We took her in for her first haircut because they have this 'puppies first visit' thing. Pretty much maybe gather from that they might know what they are doing when it comes to puppies.. well, that and they have a full in house grooming area.. um, wrong. They gave her the most uneven haircut and to make matters worse they cut off a good portion of one of her nipples. They had to have the vet from 'Vetco' come over. Meanwhile they told my girlfriend nothing. She went in to pick up the pup, they printed out the paperwork and had her pay for the grooming and then when the employee came back with the dog they showed her the pup was injured and bleeding. They had the Vet came over. Then the lady that butchered our dog said "well her nipples run really high".. 1) you work with dogs and cats for a living and 2) grooming is your job.. thanks for no excuse at all. She went in there for her first haircut and came home with pain pill, less a nipple and a bandage that looks like a tank top. This chop shop should not be in business. Oh yeah, I almost forgot that while my gf was standing there crying over our puppy the staff was snickering at her. Real professional people. read more

Parking is an issue because the store is located in a small strip mall with only 4 retail stores. There is a few parking spaces on the street for backup. However, the staff and inventory are great. I have been shopping here for 4 years and am in here 1 or 2 times each week. Only once were they out of one of our pets' staples. The prices are also very reasonable. read more
