From what I experienced everything went surprisingly well. I've passed this location multiple times and after making a quick phone call. I was lucky to get an appointment the next day. Worked out perfect. Just took a phone call! Upon entry I could already tell it was a good choice. Super friendly staff, very gentle and accommodating. I had mentioned my Miniature Schnauzer has anxiety and can be slightly difficult to work with. So to hear them reassure they will be extra gentle was gratifying. Also because it was our first time there we were asked to bring in the latest vaccines to ensure safety. So that we did! After all the introductions and letting go of the leash from my clingy little boy. It was time to wait for the pick up call. Just an fyi I asked for a Mohawk, short body shave and some facial features that are a custom to the Miniature Schnauzer breed. You'll see from the photos below that they delivered! Just want to mention I am super grateful of the communication and updates they had given me. Like I had mentioned my little boy has anxiety so being with someone new I knew he wasn't going to take it too well. Yet they managed to call me inform me he was a bit tense, and extremely rebellious aka Snappy. If you know what I mean....So for them to mention that he needed to be muzzled was completely okay with me. The fact I got a call to let me know what's going on proves to me that they are caring. One for their staff and two for the safety of their little clients. All in all, about 5-6 hours lately due to breaks in between to ensure my Paco was not hurt during the snips. It was time to pick up my little boy! And wow was he happy to see me and so was I! Also disclaimer! Their pricing is beyond reasonable. I mean I was paying almost double at another location and wasn't receiving half of the requests I had given out. So that was very notable! Last but not least always tip! Be kind. These people work hard and deserve all the thanks they can get. So now that we are done with the majority of the review. About my boy, he melts my heart every minute, everyday and every time! I've been taking Harry here to be groomed by the inimitable Nancy for almost 11 years, and still think that she is the best. Last month, even before Harry started scratching at his ear, she told me that she thought he might have a budding infection. I took him to his vet, and she was right. So we caught the problem before it really had a chance to spread. That's why I love Nancy and why we trust her with Harry. Very unprofessional. I called two weeks ago at 7 am a few times and no one answered until 12 pm. I called on Monday to take my dog in for daycare and grooming. I called at 7 am, someone answered, but no actual voice and the line was disconnected. I called right back & then someone answered, I asked if grooming was available and they were unsure and couldn't tell me until 11 am. I then asked if there were other days that I could come instead & then the line was disconnected again. I was shocked. Never again! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!! Unfortunately this place has changed and will not be our home for boarding and daycare anymore, although we used to feel very safe and comfortable leaving our dog here. I booked boarding for this weekend and I was surprised that they ask us to do another temperament test since it's not as if it had been so long since the last time we were here that our dog is in a new stage of life such as being a senior dog, and although they continued to stress on the phone and during the incident today that there were "many new dogs" I kept wondering why that would be an issue if all of the dogs including mine had already passed temperament tests. It's not as if it was always the same dogs here every time we boarded him or dropped him off for daycare, and he meets new dogs all the time at the dog park. But I wasn't worried about my dog having any issues, he has never had aggression issues and we go to the dog park at least 3 times a week, we have stayed with friends or family who have dogs, friends bring their dogs here, and he has boarded and had daycare at this very place many times, never a single issue. We have a husky and he gets along with every breed large and small, from Yorkies and Pugs to Labs and German Shepherds. If they want to play and wrestle he's happy with that, but if they want him to keep his distance or just sit around he does that too. Even my mom's grumpy old pug just growls and sometimes snaps while my dog sits there wagging his tail like a happy idiot. I had not been told on the phone it was a 2 hour drop-off, I was thinking maybe 20-30 minutes, so when I arrived and they told me to pick him up in a couple hours I asked if I could just pay for a half day of daycare since I hadn't planned for that and it would be more convenient for me to come back a little later. At around the 1.5 hour mark I was shocked to get a call that my dog not only got into a fight, but supposedly started the fight. I was told he could stay for the duration of the daycare but they wouldn't be able to board him. Um, no I'm not leaving my dog there for one extra second when obviously something is super wrong. When I arrived, the woman in line in front of me booked some additional daycare or boarding, picked up her large breed dog and when she left I was informed that that was the dog my dog supposedly started the fight with. This dog was around 80 lbs, my dog is 55 lbs and shorter stature, and neither dog had injuries. They brought my dog out to me and of course I don't know exactly what happened but I expected him to be a little worked up and hyper but he wasn't. He gets more hyper when I pick him up from grooming because he hates the water. So I believe one of three things happened: either my dog actually did start the first fight ever in his 5 year life, with a larger, stronger dog, meaning he felt totally unsafe and threatened to the degree that he reacted with force when normally he runs away from dogs that start to fight at the dog park. perhaps overcrowding or other issues, but it would have to be REALLY BAD because he normally doesn't even react when dogs hump him or snap at him, if anything he trots away to go sniff a new corner. Same thing with toys or treats, it's usually smaller dogs that run away with the toys and he just follows them like "hey I was playing with that" but never fights. Or, the other dog started the fight but that dog is a regular and that would explain why they kemp emphasizing "new dogs", if they have dogs that don't have the best temperament but their owners take them all the time and they don't want to lose the regular income, maybe they will reject any dogs that those dogs start fights with to limit issues but keep the regulars. Or the only other possibility I can imagine is that, they have all new staff and maybe even new owners and run things differently, maybe the current staff aren't really qualified and don't know how to work with dogs and maybe it wasn't even a fight, but normal play between two large breed dogs, but anything more than running around they think is a fight? After all, the owner of the other dog was booking more boarding so even if she was aware of the situation it didn't rise to the level of being concerned over her dog's safety or well-being apparently. I used to recommend them to everyone who asked me about boarding their dog but either the new people working here don't know how to handle dogs or they are way overcrowded (but even then, sometimes the park gets overcrowded and my dog doesn't get aggressive so there would still have to be more to it), or they have some more aggressive regular customer dogs that they are catering to. read more

I really wish they had more locations because its my absolute favorite here! I've always had really great interactions with the staff and after returning after Normans first day here, they remembered him by name the second I walked in. I was super surprised! If you leave your pup overnight, you can have the overnight staff send you pictures/videos so this is great if you're leaving them for an extended period of time. Bowhaus is very different from the dog daycare I take Norman to at home. Instead of it being a huge concrete, indoor rectangle....the dogs are playing in an indoor/outdoor combo with fake grass, toys and beds to lay on. We moved to Pasadena about 2 years ago and had done lots of research before selecting Bowhaus for boarding and day care. We loved our previous doggy day care and were looking for something of the same caliber for our pup and boy, has Bowhaus continually impressed. The staff are great and remember Winston by name, which makes us feel so comfortable leaving him when we travel. Winston loves Bowhaus so much that he gets super excited when we pull into the parking lot because he knows how much fun he'll have. I'm a pretty anxious dog mama, especially when leaving my little guy for more than 24hours and absolutely appreciate and love the pictures and videos the staff send us during his stay. We were traveling when there were some larger earthquakes recently and they were quick to let us know that Winston was okay. I could go on and on about how much we all love Bowhaus and their staff, but I'll end with this, Bowhaus is amazing, you and your fur-baby will love it. Full disclosure, I have been to four other groomers in the area and this one is probably the best. Short notice for an appointment, no problem. Smells as good in the store as Tito smells as we're leaving... They use different shampoos based on the hair/fur/skin needs of the furry creatures. Tito has sensitive skin, so they usually use the oatmeal or medicated shampoo to deal with him. They do a great job on him, whether it's a cut or a bath or both. And the bath includes nail trim, glands cleaning, and ear cleaning... Nancy is especially thorough & hardworking! And she is always welcoming to the little guy. There are dog and cat beds, toys, treats, & food, all high quality. They sell Natural Balance, which is what Tito eats. Last night he came home with a tie! They always go the extra mile to make him cute as a button. Sometimes he has a little bandana that he rocks for a few days to a week after coming home from Bowhaus. He loves the luxe life. read more

SO happy I found this place. After reading all the great reviews, I decided to take a chance and schedule a grooming appointment for my dog Napoleon. Immediately I liked that it was close by my house, and offered easy parking - an open gate with a sign for Bowhaus located next to the shop. Walking-in I noticed the cleanliness of the store, with a great selection of food/treats/toys and pet friendly furniture - most of which was natural/organic. As I sat down in their stylish and comfortable waiting area ( really cute! ) I began filling out the necessary paperwork- one for details about your pet, and the second as a kinda of health waiver with information regarding the grooming process and safety procedures. Throughout this time the two employee's ( whose name's escape me, sorry guys ! ) made us feel right at home, they were both extremely friendly and accommodating. One thing I truly like about this place is the grooming schedule. Unlike most places where you( and 15 other people) drop your dog off in the early AM and wait until the late afternoon to rescue your pet from the kennel they've been in all-day, Bowhaus works by appointment to have your pet ready within the next few hours. Not there on time? No problem, your pet won't be trying to escape from an impossibly small kennel, instead they'll be in their own waiting area. Having been scarred from the last groomer we went to, Napoleon didn't handle the nail filing very well, which we just rescheduled for our next visit. But before we rescheduled, I received a call letting me know about the situation and an option for me to hold Napolean while they tried to trim his nails one more time. This is why I will be back, the thoughtful service. They treated my dog with such respect and care, making sure to take the grooming slow and allowing him the time he needed to get comfortable. I can't say enough good things about Bowhaus! After visiting numerous other daycare facilities in the area, Bowhaus clearly stood out as the best option. They really take care to make sure each dog is in the right playgroup and having the best experience possible. It never seems crowded, and each dog has plenty of space to roam around or nap! In addition, the early drop off and late pickup have been a lifesaver! I've never visited another facility that has such flexible hours. My dog Mr. Bingley gets so excited when we pull up, and can't wait to go back and spend time with the staff and other dogs. This is the closest pet services facility by our house so we loved that it was convenient. The man that works in the front there and the groomers are always very nice to us and my sweet pitbull. Our dog frequents another day care facility in downtown LA since thats where we work however we thought it would be nice to have him stay here sometimes since it's nearby our place. Last few times we had a great experience. Unfortunately, when our dog was doing a temperament test for this daycare, with a new lady we hadn't met yet, it went totally unexpectedly south. We heard some banging and was told that he had failed after he jumped over a fence. Mind you, our pittie does get a little anxious but he has never done this before and does extremely well at the dtla daycare. After this we were told by the groomer that his thumb nail was bent backwards.. asking if we had known. We were literally playing with him just before and we wouldve definitely noticed his limping. So, it has to be after the fact. The groomer asked if we wanted to take him back home instead since we planned for a bath as well. We decided to take him to the vet immediately however was super disappointed when we walked back in since the lady that had walked him for the test did not even acknowledge us or comment on anything. I get it, it's mostly our dogs fault for his reaction which we can't imagine that he did in the first place but let's give that benefit of the doubt but to not say anything at all was a bit cold especially when he's limping out of the place. The vet said he also had some scratches here and there and we're super sad that we cannot come here anymore. Just thought I'd put in my two cents since we look to Yelp for guidance as well. read more

DON'T TAKE YOUR DOG HERE! TLDR; the quality of service is terrible and the staff thinks it's okay if your dog goes home with cuts or a cough. Comments from the supervisor made it clear that they are more focused on the quantity of dogs coming in than a number they can safely supervise. I have been taking my dog to Bowhaus fairly regularly over the last few years, but this last visit was the final straw. I picked him up and he had a scratch right under his eye. The staff told me about it (the groomer said that she just reports what she sees, but the supervisor Charles acted like the cut wasn't a big deal and was pretty condescending the whole time.) Obviously I didn't bring my dog in with a cut under his eye and I would expect the staff to be more attentive to the dogs while they're interacting with each other. They said there was no major fight or emergency so they didn't think it was a big deal. Also, my dog came home with about half of the food I sent with him for the time he was staying there so he didn't eat as much as he should have during the duration of his stay. The supervisor Charles kept saying things like "well, if you actually look at it, it's not that bad" to try to downplay the cut my dog left with. And when I complained about the frequency of issues I have here (that he has come home before with bumps around his mouth on one occasion and a cough on another, just to name a few) he said "oh it's just like the flu." I should not have to take my dog to the vet every time I pick him up from boarding. Charles said I could email the owner to see if I could get a refund of any kind, but I have complained to the owner for the cough and the bumps and heard literally nothing back either time. Also, Charles said that there were up to 30 dogs this weekend, but how could the dogs be properly supervised with that many dogs?! When he said that he made it clear that they are more focused on the quantity of dogs coming through the door and the money that comes with it. I loved the idea of letting my dog play in a supervised area, but it's clear that this place doesn't have that environment anymore. I brought my dog here for more than a year without an issue, but have had concerns for the last 3 consecutive stays. I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

We dropped her here frequently over a 2 week period during our move out of Pasadena. She truly loved it here and was excited to go back. She came back very happy (and exhausted from all the playing). This review is not for the grooming but for the overnight stay in a bungalow. I dropped my dog off for one night and when I returned to pick him up he had poop stuck to his butt! The lady tried to remove it but it wouldn't budge. I had to take him home and cut his butt hair to remove the dried up poop. What concerns me is that they did not notice this sooner and it stayed on long enough that it dried on. Also, they left his walking harness on him the entire time. Then I got a call a few days later asking if I was going to pick up my dog. My dog was with me in the living room, I guess my dog had the same name as a dog staying there. I mentioned my dog was already with me and it was just a mix up. The grooming is 4 stars! But I wouldn't trust them then with caring for my dog overnight. read more

DAYCARE: I work in the area and had read positive reviews about this doggie daycare. I called in to see about their vaccination and temperament test requirements to attend their daycare. They asked me what kind of dog I had and how old she was. I told them I would be bringing in my one year old Border Collie/German Shepherd mix. Everything was ready to go. Only after we showed up at their place did they decide that my dog was too big to be a part of their doggie daycare. They actually told me that their doggie daycare is for small dogs. I am genuinely confused as to why they didnt mention this over the phone instead of having me waste my time and gas to get there and tell me small dogs only. Honestly, it feels really discriminatory to be told that they only take little dogs. I wont be spending any money at this place. BOTTOM LINE: Dont bother taking "big dogs" here. Customer service is weak: they told me to bring my dog in despite knowing she was "big" and preferred to reject my dog and I, inconveniently, in person. Not cool. read more

Extremely attentive, patient with all my questions the first time I came here, personable/professional, and overall awesome people you can trust your dog with. Places like petmart charge you for extra playtime and keep your dog in a kennel majority of the day, NOT here. They keep your pup indoors all day in an air conditioned room with other furry buddies with toys and doggy day beds with plenty of water, and when it's nice enough outside they have a great outdoor shaded area so the pups can go and play. OK, this review is looooong overdue. We've been bringing our boy Spike to get groomed for about 4yrs now. From the beginning we knew this was our spot. When we made our first appointment I informed the person on the phone that he gets extremely nervous and anxious. When we took him in he was greeted by the staff with lots of love and rubs, then they put him in his own special little area so he could look out at the street. The groomer had a full consultation with us on how he should be cut, all the way down to how his beard should be cut. We were also able to see him through the glass when leaving. Fast forward 4yrs later, although some of the faces have changed, we get the exact same service we received on that first visit. Nancy the groomer or other employees go over all details of cut and any changes. Once he's done Nancy always comes out and informs us of any unusual bumps, hotspots etc.....she may have noticed while grooming. I really appreciate this because they've caught a few things we may have missed. I highly recommend this spot. Everyone seems to love and care for the animals that come through. This is so important because Spike is my baby and I don't trust just anyone with him. Since our first visit Spike was diagnosed with diabetes and is insulin dependent and completely blind. We thought about getting a mobile groomer so he could be comfortable but my husband and said "Why! It takes time to build a relationship and to sustain one at that. From the moment, i was introduced to Bowhaus through my usual pet store, their services have been wonderful. I say this, as a dog owner who only wants the best for her dog, and im sure my dog (Chick) would feel the same. Having had tried other groomers, and even self grooming, the first bath Chick had at the Bowhaus was not only time savvy the products used on her left her fragrant and clean. The first time picking Chick up for her bath was also the first time i met the staff, and i was impressed with the knowledge they had on dogs and how most of them were dog owners themselves. They also seemed to have a true interest in the well being of each dog. This visit was also where i learnt that this establishment was not only a groomers but a day care as well as a boarding house. After having her groomed there a few times, i empathized for my only dog having to stay at home several hours a day when i had to work and the idea of daycare seemed like a good option. Seeing Chick at daycare at the Bowhaus is what really made me a fan of this place. I learnt more about my dog from the feedback the staff would give me like how she would play and what her personality was like. It was one thing having her at home alone but to see her interact with other dogs and see her in a crowd where she felt comfortable made me feel safe to keep my dog in this environment. They also require a temperament test on each dog, before they enter the daycare program, which i felt was a good precaution. FInally, when it came to going to vacation, Bowhaus was my best bet, Chick loved seeing her friends every day and it was really time to put my relationship with this establishment to the test. I was gone for 2 weeks and they definitely made me feel reassured that she would be ok. Not only would they send me pictures and updates of how she was doing, but they explained to me how their system worked which made me feel at ease. I liked the idea that it was more of a dog slumber party without kennels and with people who watched them overnight. The Space where they stay is not huge, but it has an indoor and outdoor area where the dogs play, while someone is always watching them. The final conclusion of my loyalty lying in this place is when i went to pick Chick up, she seemed tired but like she had a lot of fun. However, it was only when i saw how excited she was to go back to daycare even after that extended period of time with them, that i truly knew she was enjoying herself too. Overall, the service and staff of this establishment are what makes this place so reliable and friendly. They will assist you with whatever you need and really get involved with the relationship with you and your canine. They seems to know every dog by their behavior and how they interact. I have learnt so much from just picking Chick up and learning from the staff more about my dog and how to be a better owner. I have true appreciation for this place. read more

I use to really love brining my dog here but the last few times have not been pleasant experiences. Today in particular I waited an hour after closing to pick up my dog from a grooming. While waiting I was talking to the manager and she made a white privilege comment...and she's half Hispanic. No one offered a discount or anything based on me waiting so long for my dog to be finished. Oh, I dropped her off at 12pm and didn't leave until after 7pm. This place is awesome! My terrier mix goes to daycare here a few times a week, occasionally boards here overnight, and gets baths here. We also buy our dog food here. The prices are super reasonable - they offer packages on daycare days (that reduce the price) which are a great deal if you bring your dog often. The staff is super friendly and I feel like my dog is always safe and well cared for. It's particularly great when he gets baths because they will schedule into his daycare day and he will be freshly bathed when I pick him up. This place is awesome. If you are looking for a doggy daycare, somewhere to board your dog, or a bather/groomer, you should definitely give this place a try. My dog and I have never had a bad experience here. :) read more

This is a cool place- we had never been there and today they had not only pet adoptions but also an electronic recycle. We fell in love with some of the lovely dogs who were there with Mutt Scouts. The low cost vet was there to perform the vaccines and insert microchips. I wanted a microchip for my husband but they indicated thiis may hurt for humans! I have my eye on a great cat carrier and a bed. Items are 50% off. I found some dog oritnted gift shirts and bags which were also on sale half off. Since we have a cat will definitely do the vaccine and checkups on Sundays. We can't have a dog where we are, but this will be a great place to adopt and get supplies when we are able to get a dog. read more

Although my Shiba Inu, Yoshi, only stayed a few hours, I can tell he had a great respite, having been treated well, and had ample playroom, to play with others. The customer service was incredible. You can easily tell the employees like their place of work. I was really hesitant to leaving Yoshi anywhere, but after my experience with Bow-Haus, I wouldn't think twice about letting my Shiba stay there again, if need be. I was treated very well, but more importantly, so was Yoshi. read more

Panda loves the Bowhaus pet company! He used to go there for daycare when he was staying with my boyfriend down in Pasadena ( He is actually in some of the photos they uploaded!! :D ) He is now with me in the bay area but we still go there for the self wash and the retail whenever we visit my boyfriend. staffs are awesome and really amazing store! read more

Everyone at Bowhaus has been extremely good to us! We have a 4 month old great dane and he loves going to daycare. The staff is really nice and treats our dog like their own. My partner and I both work 9-5 jobs and being able to drop our pup off in the morning and pick him up after work is super convenient. Additionally, he's so tired from playing all day that he goes home right to bed! We also had the chance to board him up for a few days while we were out of town and they kept us informed of his stay, sending us picture and videos. Only rule is that you have to have your dog fixed by 6 months of age, which is totally understandable. Our vet, however, told us to hold off on neutering our pup until about 12 months so unfortunately we are going to have to find a new place in a few months. If this weren't the case, we would have loved to stay at Bowhaus. read more

I have been bringing my 2 yorkies to this place for at least 2 years. The people are friendly, and very accommodating. My pups seem happy when I pick them up. I just wish they had cameras so you could see the dogs behind the wall. I am a nurse who works at 7am. I also wish they would open at 06:30 so I could make it to the hospital on time. I really am very appreciative of their services and their kindness to fur babies. read more
