I'm reviewing only for the fish/ fish supplies area of the store. I visited this place about 5 times in the past 2 weeks because I just started on my first freshwater fish aquarium.. there's an asian guy (sorry, can't recall his name D:) who's very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to anything related to fish. He's here on tuesdays, thursdays and one of the weekend days.. be sure to call petco to see if he's there and ask for his hours.. although the other employees are nice, they know nothing about fish and are quite rough with them.. one of the employees pretty much trashed a tank (plants on the side, once floating moss balls on the gravel) trying to net a tetra.. sadly, that tetra didn't last long in my tank D: I do appreciate that Petco replaces the freshwater fish that pass away. They've replace my neon tetras without any questions. (Since neon tetras are so prone to NTD, I really appreciate this policy..gives 1m star) I'm not sure about other fishes but when I came back for neon/ cardinal tetras, they were out. Be sure to call ahead to see if they have what you want in stock! I believe they replace their fish stock on weds night, so come on thursdays. :) Supplies aren't at its cheapest here.. I've seen cheaper at amazon or maybe an asian pet store. :) But they're convinent and no shipping time required! read more

I went this morning to buy a bag of dog food. When I walked in a group of 3 employees started squeaking dog toys at me. Not a hello or good morning. Just a 30 second chorus of dog toys once I had passed through the door. I'm not a dog...did not have my dog with me...and I didn't appreciate having dog toys squeaked at me when I entered. It was really rude. If these employees were so bored that they didn't have anything else to do except greet customers with dog toy noises maybe more training on customer service is needed. There are other pet stores that provide better service and if I didn't have a gift card for petco I would have gone somewhere else. read more

I give Petco Pasadena a ZERO STAR but that does not exist so i am forced to leave a 1 star. I paid $49.99 for a Anemone which died in less then a week which i have many others and a very healthy salt water aquarium. i am a local business owner and to be told there is nothing they can do for me basically FU to me. today i hate Petco don't go there there are a lot of better places with more healthier fish. read more

I love whiskey. Anywho, do not shop here because the prices listed on the shelf are never correct. I don't know how many times I've been here and I have been charged a different amount than what was listed. I asked the cashier to double check once and it held up the line and I became that asshole. Thus, I have never done that again. I am not the type to normally bitch about that kinda stuff. I've returned a couple of times only cause I had a pet food emergency. Otherwise, stay away. read more

First time stopping in the store for me. Usually greeted at pet stores and there's always help on the floors with any of your questions on your pets needs. This was a bad experience and for that I refused to even purchase 1 item. Not one person greeted me and not a single employee on the floor to help you and suggest any products for your pets.. Petsmart is the way to go! I'd rather take the few more minutes to get there and be greeted with great customer service! Won't come back here ever again read more

I needed some tadpoles for a class i was teaching, i called in to check and was told they had them in. When i got there i waited 30 minutes just for someone to tell me they didn't have any. The girl spen't 30minutes scooping some feeder fish before helping. Ugh read more

This Petco (and probably all of them) do not honor warranties for the products they sell. They also, in my opinion, mislead customers to purchase products with lifetime warranties by choosing to not make evident, before you buy it, the fact that they do not honor the warranties for the products they sell: Case in point: I purchased an aquarium heater in 2010 and I had many to choose from. I chose the one that said "Lifetime Warranty" printed on the box and it was more expensive than other choices. I brought the heater back home, saved the box and the receipt and used the heater for 2 years. Said heater failed recently and I re-boxed it and took the faulty heater and the original receipt back to exchange it (I didn't want a refund, I wanted a replacement heater). I was told that they do not honor warranties after 30 days and that I would need to deal with the manufacturer. I explained that I bought this product specifically due to the advertised warranty and I asked how they could justify not honoring the warranties for the products they sell? The Manager, whom I was dealing with, pointed to the back of the receipt (terms and conditions) and read the terms and conditions to me (basically that I wasn't going to get a replacement heater from Petco because it had been more than 30 days). I was told that I would need to get the manufacturer to honor the warranty. Now... first of all, this is dirty pool at best. But I consider it unethical actually. You see... you don't get the receipt with the terms and conditions until after you've paid for whatever it is that purchased. Even then I, like most people, didn't read the terms and conditions on the back of the receipt after I bought the product. Who does this to a consumer and thinks that it's fair and reasonable treatment? That's my last visit to any Petco... that's for sure. read more

I really like this petco. I shop here for fish, fish supplies, and dog supplies. I've only gotten betas (and supplies) here. They have a good selection of tank supplies, and mediocre prices (basically what you'd expect). Same with the dog supplies: they have an excellent selection of things and middle of the road prices. ie it's cheaper than a boutique dog store, but more expensive than your cheapest online dealer, both of which I also use to buy dog supplies on occasion. I did get a sick beta from this store, but when it died (almost immediately), they took it back for store credit without a receipt and showed me how to pick out the healthiest betas. (Our new fish is so feisty that he's kind of a dick). Everyone on the staff is very helpful and most are very knowledgable. I'm a first time dog owner with lots of (probably simple) questions, and I always find help here. Occasionally you'll run across a staff member who, when you ask them a question, it is obvious that its not their area of expertise, but then you simply find another of their numerous staff and you'll get a satisfactory answer. I also bought a (huge) bag of dog food that I thought my dog liked (he devoured a sample serving i got). Once I had purchased the huge bag of kibble, it became obvious that he didn't like the stuff. I checked online and found that it was universally hated both for taste and quality (oops, should have researched more beforehand), and petco let me return it for store credit no questions asked (as long as 1/2 of the bag is still left). read more

I was surprised to see this place only has a few stars, I LOVE this Petco! I have a dog and I take him here for everything from training, to grooming to get supplies and food. The staff are always helpful and friendly and know a lot about animals, the groomers were fantastic! My dog has anxiety issues and can't stand to be away from me normally, so his first visit was a bit shaky but he did really well with them and they even gave him free dog treats. He also had fleas that weren't going away with the shampoo I had bought or this Adams flea treatment I used, so the fact that one trip to their groomer and his fleas have been eradicated is wonderful! They were gentle with him and gave me a coupon for his next visit. The trainer, Bailey, is extremely helpful and cool! I almost want to just write her a big fat "Thank You!" review! The few times I've talked with her before her class she gave me a lot of great tips on how to help my dog adjust to being alone and they really work. Her class is easy and she does a good job with handling problems specific to each dog and owner. She's also very intelligent and doesn't make you feel like an idiot for not knowing anything. She even remembers my dog from only meeting him twice and calls him by name. My husband and I adore her since her few training tips and techniques have already helped are dog immensely! This store has a good selection for food, toys and treats as well and I know my dog loves it since he literally drags me there when we're on our walks. I have to say this Petco is my favorite pet store. read more

you'd think, Petco, they're all the same right? no, unfortunately, they are not. this Petco is well stocked, and has nice live animals to look at. but what really makes this Petco stand out (in a bad way) is the blatant disregard for customer service one of their supervisors have. i had bad experience with the same supervisor not once, not twice, but 3 times. without going into boring details, to summarize, there was something i wanted that was sold out, so i asked when it will be in stock, and came back 3 times, and still wasn't able to get it. this happened on multiple occasions, and always with the same supervisor. instead of apologizing for giving me the wrong information of when the shipment will be in, she pretty much gave me the "i really don't care" attitude. the acted like she didn't really care if i was a customer, and i was just a nuisance. on the up side, the rest of the store associates are pretty pleasant. and also when i wrote a letter detailing my bad experiences to the corporate office, they responded with a nice letter. whether or not something was done, i'm not sure, but at least they cared enough to write a response. oh, and also, Petco is overpriced. can get the same cat litter at target for half the price. read more

I just come here to get cat food. I'm glad they have pet adoptions and can allow you to donate to the cause, but aside from that the place is ho-hum. Parking really sucks. If the street parking is available, you should use it. read more

I love coming to this store for their aquarium department. They have the biggest selection in saltwater aquarium for a reasonable price. The employee there is so helpful and also happy to answer any questions we may have. He seems very knowledgeable and gives great advice. Definitely a place to go if you are looking into setting up an aquarium or maintaining one you already have. read more

Well stocked location and friendly staff. Can easily find what I'm looking for. They have a great selection of products in each category from food, toys and cleaning supplies. My dog loves her pig ears and they sell them here really cheap! Lots of parking on the lot out front too! read more

I made a reservation to get a grooming service for my cat a week ago, and also called them to confirm the time the day before. When I bought my cat to there ten minutes before the appointment time, the groomer was not there. I waited for more than half hour, and the groomer still not there. I saw other owner coming in, also waiting for her service. I had to leave my cat there because I had to go somewhere. Because my appointment time is the first service for today, so before I leave, I made sure that the groomer will do the service for my cat first. I didn't get any phone call for more than two hours, so I went to check on my cat. The groomer was there, but she is grooming other dogs. My cat was still in the back, waiting. I was mad, and I asked her that I made the reservation, and I was on time, how come she is working on other dogs? She didn't apologies being late first of all, and she said my cat is not happy with shower, so she gives some time for my cat to relax. Oh my god!! That is bull**it!! Cat will still NOT LIKE showing if you give her 2 hours!!! She told me to come back one hour. I said I am staying. So she went to the back and showering my cat finally. When I was waiting, I saw the person who was waiting for the groomer in the morning came back to get his two dogs before I leave. So obviously, she groomed those two dogs before my cat, and that made me wait for total FOUR HOURS!! This horrible groomer's name is Danira Avaics Make sure you don't ask her service. I called to get info on dog training. The very lethargic sounding "customer service" rep hung up on me while I was on hold. I called back and she remembered that I had just called, but of course no apology. She had to put me on hold again just to find out if there were any upcoming seminars. Then she put me on hold again to see when the next puppy 1 class would be, but of course she hung up again. Done! I will take my hard earned money elsewhere. read more

Best staff, ever. I was asked if I needed help looking for anything by almost each employee. They were so helpful and directed me toward what I needed. We just adopted a cat from the Pasadena Hamane Society and the person helping me at checkout gave me a pamphlet on adopting and in it was a book of coupons! Thanks Omar!!!! Laziest groomers ever. And I want to state for the record that there is one groomer here that is amazing he took time with my shy dog. But all the other times I have gone in it's some other lazy person. The latest was because it was an hour before closing and the guy had to clean. He had no other dogs to groom only had to clean. read more

i visited this location this past Thursday, I wanted to get my daughter a new dress for an occasion, unfortunately this location doesn't really carry much clothing. When I was ready to check out keep in mind there wasn't really anyone at the store, I stood there for about 5 minutes waiting on the cashier who was just talking to another employee. I already annoyed was about to leave the toy behind until she realized I was just standing there...like take care of the clients before socializing amongst each other. read more

I was a regular customer to this branch until last Saturday. I and my entire family arrived there with my 13 yr old dog for her regular grooming as scheduled but was denied by the branch due to their concern over her health condition and aging issues. "Liability" is the exact word they used to cancel my booked service without any notice in advance. I tried to reason with them by suggesting (a) conduct the service this time as scheduled (b) I bring alone the certificate signed by a vet proving my dog is ok for grooming next time. The manager called Cody cold-bloodily rejected our proposals and asked us to leave. He even did this in front of my two little kids. They were so heart-broken and kept asking me "papa, does this mean our dog is dying?' Why they ask us to leave?" I condemn the senseless and ignorant attitude of this branch against their regular customer who did nothing wrong but showed at their doorstep as scheduled. At least, we deserve an apology. Very frustrated and disappointed. This branch loves your money, but does not care you or your pets. They only think of themselves. What a shame! read more

Awful place. I asked them whether Syrian hamsters can be housed together. Two different people told me yes. One said they love company. I go online, and every single website says Syrian hamsters are solitary creatures, and if they live together one will end up killing the other! Thank God for the Internet, these people have no idea what they're talking about. Then I tried to find out the age of the hamsters. They told me that they were 3 to 6 months old. Yet the two hamsters I bought had been caged together in the store, but online it says that after 5-6 weeks they get violent. So although they tell me that the hamsters were 3 to 6 months old, I have no idea whether to believe them, considering the actual record of this place. read more

Always happy with Andrew grooming my dogs. He is alway kind, gentle, and very thorough with them. They look great and they are not nervous when he is finished. They are happy pups. Store is clean and nice. The bathrooms need frequent attention but overall this is a good store with nice people. read more

Rescued an 11 year old basset from the shelter and now with meds he can walk but knuckles and broke his toenail to the quick. Looked like a massacre. Quickly took him to petco to get some shoes, broke again while walking and young lady from grooming rushed to help with quick stop, towel and love for the dog while I purchased the shoes. She helped put them on and showed me how to use quick stop if it happens again. Chatted while it dried about what to ask the vet for to help in addition and she herself rescues seniors. This punk rock young lady renewed my faith in people. Grateful for the help at petco today. read more

Came in today for some dog and cat food. I found their store to be well stocked and pretty spacious. It sucks that other Yelpers had a hard time getting help in the store. Not cool! I knew what I needed so I didn't need any assistance but if I ever do I guess I should drive the extra mile to another store. They had a bunny adoption going on. The bunnies were soooo big and cute.
