Terrible customer service and staff unwilling to help.** I visited this Petco location on May 14, 2025, and had one of the most frustrating retail experiences I've ever had. I had placed an online order for dog food two hours before arriving and came in to pick it up. A woman, likely in her mid-20s, was folding towels when I approached and explained why I was there. She immediately told me she couldn't help me without a confirmation number and made no effort to assist beyond that. I explained I didn't have any dog food left at home and really needed the order. She simply repeated that without a number, there was nothing she could do. Once I pulled out my phone and gave her the confirmation number, she said the order wasn't marked as a pickup and wouldn't be ready until the next day. That's completely false because I checked out specifically as a pickup order. I asked again if there was any way she could help me, and she still said no. When I asked her name, she refused to give it, saying she wasn't comfortable sharing it. I then asked to speak to a manager, but--surprise--there wasn't one on site. Eventually, someone named Armando came out and at least attempted to help. I explained the situation, including how unhelpful the other employee had been. He checked me out and completed the order, which only confirmed that it *could* have been done from the start. The woman never apologized, never offered a solution, and seemed more interested in closing the store than helping a customer. Sadly, this isn't the first time I've had poor service from her specifically. If you value basic customer service and being treated with respect, **avoid this location at all costs**** read more

I bring my dog everyday to get her teeth brush. She also gets a bath every month. The saloon is always clean. And the groomers are very professional and nice. The groomer gives my dog a cookie every visit. The rest of the employees in the store are nice and always give attention to my dog. read more

DO NOT BUY ANIMALS FROM PETSMART! Me and my girlfriend got a guinea pig from a different location and went to this one to get a refund because unfortunately our beloved S'mores got pneumonia and passed within not even 10 days of having her home. They gave us a hard time, claiming because we didn't have the body (which we where getting cremated) that there was nothing they could do. The employee had to call her manager and he was able to get us a refund only because we brought the paper work for us putting her down. They were very rude and they didn't give me a single apology or where even sympathetically about selling us a sick animal. I absolutely think Petsmart should reimburse the vet bill for owners who have to put their pets down within two weeks of owning them when buying them from they're care as we where stuck with a 400$ bill from her exam and being put down. Generally I like Pet Co, they have been my preferred pet shop in the past. Maybe not this one though. Today I cam in to by a pet-safe bark collar for my dogs. It sprays a scent less or citronella mist if it detects barking. It's completely safe. But see, when I'm gone my dogs tend to bark at strangers on the sidewalk and I live right on the street so there is a lot of foot traffic. Now when I'm home it's not an issue. But when I'm gone the dogs are more protective of the property and they are big dogs. With big barks and it upsets my neighbors. The dogs don't just bark, its always to alert but I understand. The bark collar gives them a reminder not to. Today Austin a young man in wearing a unbuttoned flannel shirt instead of the uniform informed me they wouldn't be carrying the product any longer because "dogs don't learn that way" I reminded him that this was a collar for my 2nd dog because the product works well on my first dog. So.... nonsense. He replied "sounds like they need more training". It was a snippy arrogant comeback from a young man with a fraction of my life experience. Besides the rude comment, the store obviously 1 doesn't care that barking animals can get you into trouble with the city, the HOA etc. Their class isn't available at a moments notice so whats a pet owner to do in the meantime? Who cares! Selling a product means a smaller profit margin than their class. Let's pretend that my dogs behavior in front of a barking dog in their store wasn't used as an example of what good training could do, and that I trained the dog myself. But these are intelligent animals and no amount of training can grunted everything. Dumping a perfectly fine safe product to make an extra buck is not a substitute. The smartest and best educated species on this planet still requires, police, courts and prisons. I've trained more dogs than Austin has seen in his life. Pet-co is not the end all and be all or final word in animal training and as far as I can tell could care less about animals (they are pulling a safe product that could at least get a dog through until their class) in order to make a buck off of reward traing. Which IS good training. But your not home to reward a dog for not barking at a scary drug addict 6 feet from the fence (who he SHOULD bark at). The consumer needs these harmless stop gaps, and if your going to make me shop on line to buy my product (such as refills) why shop in your big box store at all? Save your money and time and do not get your dog groomed here. I made my appointment a week before for 10:30AM on a Saturday. Got a text that confirmed my time but when it was time for me to go, I opened the Petco app to double check the address and found that my appointment was marked as done as it changed to 10AM with no call or no notice. Thinking it must be a mixup I still got there at 10:25 only for one of the other groomers tell me the person I made the appointment with just left to get breakfast. So we waited 20 minutes, the groomer that was working alone ended up checking my dog in first and she finally showed up a little before 11AM along with the receptionist with a Starbucks cup in her hand and no sign of rush at all. That poor girl that was working all the areas alone.. My pup isn't new to grooming and from her past appointments at Petco, she got done pretty quick within an hour or two max. Almost 3 hours passed so I went to go check on her and they said it can take up to 5 hours because they're busy. I asked how far in she was and they only gave her a bath and shut her into a cage for 3 hours while they groom other dogs because they overbook like crazy. Her nails weren't even clipped. So I just took her home from there and they didn't say a single sorry for rescheduling with no notice, then disappearing upon appointment time, nothing. I believe her name was Lee, she was plus size and wore her hair into a small ponytail/bun in the back. She's so unprofessional and gives you looks like you did something wrong to her. The only words she muttered out of her mouth was "do you mind paying for her bath before we hand her over?". I just completely ignored her and focused on the receipt they handed over to see exactly what I'm paying for and got my dog first. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOGS IN THEIR HANDS. THEY OVERBOOK THEIR CUSTOMERS BEYOND THEIR CAPABILITY AND NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES. AND ITS SO SMALL BACK THERE. YOUR DOGS WILL BE NEGLECTED AND SHUT IN A SMALL CAGE IN A DARK ROOM FOR HOURS LISTENING TO EACH OTHER CRY JUST SO THEY CAN MAKE MORE MONEY. read more

I had an appointment for my two dogs at 11am. I hadn't heard from Cheryl by 2:30 so I decided to go to Petco thinking I may have to wait some time at the store. I am convinced Cheryl started to work on my dogs when she recognized me as I went into the store. At 3:30, I decided to claim my dogs and get the heck out because I was getting angrier by the minute. I was informed one needed another 20 minutes and they hadn't started on the second dog who needed the most work. I will NEVER use Petco grooming ever again. This store has cancelled my vet appointments for the Vetco vaccination clinics 4 times in the last 2 years. Every time they said that their veterinarian hasn't shown up. They even waited until 10 minutes before the appointment after I'm already in their parking lot! I even called before the appointments to make sure it was going to be open only to be told to come on in because the clinic was definitely going to open - but it wasn't. They suggested that I drive 30 miles to another clinic that they " think" is open and that they "might" let me in without an appointment at the other location. Once they even sent me to a mobile clinic for the vaccines where there were technicians for distemper shots but no vet for rabies shots. The mobile clinic had no computer to check my pets' records so they insisted it was my 1st visit so my dogs would need boosters (my dogs are old and are always current on their shots). I don't recommend the Vetco clinics. read more

If I could give no stars I would. This was one of the most stressful & traumatizing experiences that I have had at Petco. No more than an hour into the appointment I receive a call from this location about one of my older 6 1/2 pound fur baby and I immediately start to freak out because I think the worst that something has happened to him. I was told that services would need to stop because he was barking while being blow dried and that they did not want to increase his stress level. I advised the grooming tech to continue in that he normally barks a lot due to him being uncomfortable with a new groomer and that he should be fine. I received a call that they were almost ready and I went to 2784 Peoria Ave location to pick up my dogs and I was less than pleased. My older dog (which will be pictured) looked the same as when I first dropped him off. I was advised his face will only be cut down and washed; however I requested an entire cut & wash. My other dog looked presentable but still not what I was expecting. I chose not to say anything regarding the lack luster "haircut" they received and did not want to put them through further trauma to have it improved. Again, this was a very stressful event for not only myself but most importantly my two dogs. I will never, ever, ever go back to this location or another Petco this matter. read more

Do not go! They burned and cut my dogs ears. Shaved him down completely because the lady messed up on the teddy bear cut. No call to see what other options I had. He had multiple burn marks and cost me $160 at the vet for his ears because The cuts got infected. Stay away from here. read more

Been to this location a few times and have, to be honest, that I've never bought anything here. I usually check out PetSmart before coming here as many of the items here that I would normally buy are much more expensive then PetSmart and PetSmart is already kinda pricey for me. The few times I've been here, I've never been greeted by anyone or asked if I needed help. They never seem to have enough people working here for the number of people that come in here. Usually, only one person at the register and maybe you can find one or two other people floating around in the store someplace. Another thing that I always find kind of weird at this location is the fact that the store always seems so dark. Like half of the lights aren't turned on. On several occasions, I came in here and the back half of the store didn't have it's lights on and I couldn't even see where I was walking, which is dangerous especially since most of the time they have stuff just in the middle of the aisles. I've never been in here and they had everything stocked and in order. There is consistently stuff all over the place in a mess. Not very professional in my opinion. read more

I've switched around places to take my two pugs for their nails and baths. Once I met the groomers at PetCo, I knew I wouldn't leave. So yesterday I accidentally mixed up PetCo with Petsmart, and scheduled for my babies to get a bath and nails trimmed. This was my interaction with Petsmart: while making my appointment I was informed that only one dog would be done at a time (ok duh), what they failed to tell me was to only bring in ONE dog at a time. The issue is I'm disabled, and have a hard time moving around a lot. That's why I got "lap dogs". So I get there with both of my dogs, and I'm told that the person is rinsing off a dog and she would be right out with me. I stood there for a while, like 5+ mins, While multiple other groomers stood there and did not acknowledge that I was even there. After finding out that they would only take one dog at a time and they expected me to come back with the other when the first was done, I told them that wouldn't work for me and canceled my appointment. I drove across the street to PetCo where Meile (sorry if I spelled that wrong) assured me that they did have appointments available and took my babies in with a smile on her face. There really isnt a price difference between Petsmart and Petco groomers, but from now on I'm taking my babies to PetCo and know that my babies can be dropped of together and get done in a reasonable amount of time. read more

There is now a "materials fee" of $5 (they should have told us), they brushed my dogs teeth for $12 (we didn't ask for it, they didn't tell us they were doing it), and the groom for a small yorkie was $54 (they said she is a "long hair breed", so even though she didn't have long hair when we dropped her off, all that matters is if she is a long or short hair breed in general - makes no sense). I feel completely ripped off at $71. I'm done with them. These are BS sales tactics that will only serve to upset customers and drive them away - job well done on driving us away, thanks for nothing. read more

ZERO stars. I had 2 Petcos cancel my appt this weeek and this one was 20 miles from me. When I told them my dog was 16 their eyes bulged and they looked disgusted. He's in good health but has skin tags & some eye discharge that my vet said cannot be treated. They said bc of his age their vet techs had to inspect him. They did and said he was ok to be groomed after having a 10 min conversation with me. Btw I waited 20 minutes to check my dog in--they service WAY TOO MANY DOGS at one time. Even after the approval they warned me if "anything happens" we may need to call you. I've had him groomed for 17 years every 2-3 months I think he'll be ok. No surprise they called me 45 minutes later; the young inexperienced groomer pouted and told me "he's panting and seems uncomfortable" they wanted me to pick him up. They wanted me to bring him back Monday when less dogs were there. WTH did they take my appt ? I called PETCO corp & was told only dogs showing aggressive behavior or illness were allowed to be refused. When I picked him up they didn't seem to know who I was or my dog "We are the ones you refuse to service." I said. Again they said "bring him back Monday." I told them I've lost all trust and my dog who is nervous at any groomer and in a car for 17 years will act they same on Monday & they'll make me pick him up again. I was in tears. I just wanted my poor boy to be cleaned. PETCO let us down and made us feel horrible. These groomers are unprofessional and inexperienced.I said "older dogs have their issues but they need your help more than anyone. You let us down." read more

The new manager, Mike, answered the phone, I told him they wanted me to bring in my cat for an exam before they would sell me Frontline for cats. Now I had just been to the vet and she had written an Rx for Frontline. He laughed and said that actually, you don't need an Rx for Frontline and come on in. Do you offer curbside pickup? I found out as I pulled up for my dog's bath appointment at 10 am that you don't accept curbside pickup if it's above 90 degrees outside. I had to find that out as I was arriving since you don't post that on your policy's site. I had asked for a one-time courtesy and you said no, stating that "policy is policy" and even though the policy isn't stated on the site and even though it was exactly 90 degrees, you wouldn't consider it. I get it, it's dangerous for dogs to be outside past a certain temperature. But this feels more like an attempt to limit how much you have to comply w/ the pandemic precautions you supposedly promise is priority and less about pet safety. It will never be less than 90 degrees after 9 am in Phoenix for the rest of the summer, 9 am being your earliest appt. according to one of your employees, so you are effectively not doing curbside pickup this summer. And if you cared about animals, I'd assume you'd ask your patrons to have your dogs wear dog shoes and bring an umbrella to offer a pet shade as you escort them the 15 ft. from the curb to the door. There were people walking their dogs from the parking lot to your store, which looks to be 50+ ft at the closest spot, do these pets not fit into your priority since you don't claim liability for them? I state again that this feels more like an attempt to say you care about the pandemic but only on paper. Please feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong or misunderstood your manager about anything here. Though I'm sure he'll just say, "policy is policy" and little else. We're in a pandemic where the disease spreads via aerosols. Are you willing to turn a blind eye to that fact instead of enhancing your curbside pickup policy or are we done caring? I had an appointment at 9:30AM on 10/17/21 for shampoo, trim, & nail trimming. We arrived on time and were informed that it would take 4-5 hours. I returned at 2:45PM (5.25 hours) and was told that they would just start trimming her and it would take an additional 2 hours, due to walk in's. Our dog is old and does not like to be in strange places for extended time. I asked what is the reason for appointments, and told they were busy? I left with my dog never to return here again prior to any service. I am very disguised with this facility. Part of a being a pet groomer is having compassion for animals. It's your usual Petco and nothing sticks out to me. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They usually have the dog food we buy in stock as well as their snacks. The have a reward program that's worth singing up for, it's free, and every couple of months we get $5+ off our purchase. I'm only knocking a star off because their customer bathrooms are no longer available to the customers due to an incident. Hopefully this will change in the future! read more

My appt was at 8am groomer was on time, but everything was locked. He texted a 16-person grp chat no answer, called the GM no answer, called managers no answer, knocked on the back door no answer and started called random ppl in the grp chat no answer. This is the worst possible situation. A mgr showed up with another employee in their car and said the interstate 17 was being diverted, but why didn't you just answer you phone instead of showing up 25 minutes late?!?!?!? Either give grooming a key or be on time! I did get 25% off my groom but my sheltie didn't look like a sheltie anymore. She was there almost 5-hours and Jacob the groomer still asked me on the phone how her haircut was supposed to be, meaning he was cutting other dogs too. Her mane was completely gone and uneven. Her skirt was still, she's not a cattle dog. I had to pay before picking her up which meant I had to tip blindly. I have been taking her to Petco since she has arrived into the states from London and now I either try PetSmart or drive to Chandler Petco where they made her look like a show dog!!!! I took my poodle in for a $65 grooming and turns out that they called me telling me they couldn't service my dog anymore and to come pick her up. I immediately went to go pick her up and once I was there she was shaven half way and nothing else was done. My dog was shaking and isn't her self. She doesn't want to be held on petted and is crying when we touch her paws or legs. I don't recommend petco even though their customer service is okay, their service isn't good. My Poodle as of this moment has deep shave marks from the cutters. I'd say do your research and pay the extra buck it's worth it and the end of time. read more

The staff was very nice however my dogs ears were not done, his anal glands weren't expressed, random spots were not evenly cut, his nails were barely trimmed, and they did not cut his genital fur. I was in a huge hurry when I picked my dog up and I called right after and left a voicemail. 2 days later and I still haven't recieved a call back. Also, I was told I would get 25% off for it being his first time but when I went to pay they wouldn't give me the 25% off... Not very satisfied and I'm upset that I haven't even recieved a call back. The aisles are kind of cramped, and it looks a bit run down. It's not as big and open as that other big pet supply store. But the one thing that makes a difference to me, in their favor, is the variety of pet food brands they carry. I have to feed one of my cats grain-free food, and at PetCo, I have the choice of 3 or 4 brands that offer grain-free varieties. At PetSmart, I think I found one. Everything else was Friskies or some such that I could find at the grocery store. The prices for these foods are pretty reasonable as well, especially if you shop the Petco P.A.L.S. deals. Their prices for litter are good too. They even sell bulk litter, where you buy the first bucket, and then pay for refills. It works out to about $11 for a 28lb pail. Plus you don't buy all that packaging over and over. read more

As someone who works in retail, I know what it is like to provide excellent customer service. Of course, it is not ok to do everything for a customer just because they are angry or upset. Two things that I was not when I walked into this store. I had previously purchased Blue Buffalo Puppy Food for my Labrador retriever mix and the manager Michael was nice enough to price match their online price of $21.99 for a 15lb bag of dog food. I was happy with my purchase as I did not have to spend over $30 on dog food because I am a frugal shopper and if I can get the same item for a lower price than I will take advantage of that. This visit, which was my first, was very pleasant. 6 weeks later I am here again to purchase my puppy some food and treats (for training purposes). I get the same bag of dog food and ask the nice cashier if she would price match their online pricing. She says she has to ask her manager, which is normal protocol for any retailer. The manager, whose name is Matt, says something to her which I could not hear and then he walks away. She says he can price match the dog food to $32.99. The dog food in the store is $33.99. He can only price match $1? I ask her to bring the manager over. I explain to him the situation and even show him my receipt from 6 weeks ago and he says he still won't do it. I am baffled because I have proof that it's been done before. I was polite. I did not yell. I did not ask him to give me the bag of dog food for free. I did not make an outrageous demand. He says that he can have it ordered online and it will be about 3-6 days! I think, I can't make my dog wait 3-6 to eat?! I can't go 3-6 days without food like I'm sure this man can't. I couldn't believe him and his terrible customer service. I tell him I won't be taking any of the items and that I will just go to PetSmart. 10 minutes later, after storming out of Petco, I arrive at PetSmart. I bring the dog food to the cashier, ask her to price match Petco's online pricing, she does it, and I walk out of the store paying $24.58 after tax + a $1 donation to homeless animals. How terrible is it that Petco stores won't price match their online pricing but PetSmart would. I do like the selection of dog food that Petco has and that is about the only thing I like. Their store is dark, dingy, and dirty. The store is very creepy because it is not well-lit. It is very dirty and run-down. The doors, walls, floors, and fixtures seem to be covered in a layer of dirt. The counters are also dirty. I'm afraid of even putting my purse down there. The employees don't wear uniforms which makes them seem unprofessional. The entire atmosphere of the store is depressing.
