I wanted to provide q quick snapshot of an incident that happened today at one of your stores in Poulsbo, WA. My main complaint is the lack of customer service and respect I experienced at your store. I entered on 31DEC25, Petco Store, Poulsbo, WA, around 1300, and initially received good customer service. I filled my cart with many items and wanted a price quote on a fish tank kit and stand. However, I waited over 45 minutes for help, despite a staff member passing me multiple times without assisting. When I went to the front desk, I learned only one person was at the desk and one on the floor, who was also the manager. The manager was busy helping a couple who arrived after me and asked me to wait even though I'd been waiting a long time. The manager could have simply paused with the other customers to answer my question quickly. Frustrated after being ignored, I told the manager I would leave and take my business elsewhere. I was then told my demeanor was too aggressive in front of other customers, though I only expressed my disappointment. As I left, the manager accused me of being threatening when I stated I got you bro, to acknowledge their request to leave. The manager then stood with arms crossed, told me to leave again, and was initially reluctant to provide the regional manager's name. After spending significant time and planning to spend over $800 as a 28-year disabled veteran, I found this treatment rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. Is this how your managers lead their stores? After as much time as I have served as a senior leader in the military and now as a Senior Executive Project Manager, is this how your managers are taught to deal with various customer personalities, complaints, or conflict resolution? Is this how a manager staffs or does a schedule to provide the best service to their customers, and then if they have an issue, to engage with a customer in front of other customers, vice trying to get the situation either understood or under control, or do you default to just whatever the manager feels? Yes, I was upset to wait that long, be ignored, and then have others helped before me, but never once did I curse, swear, threaten, use improper body language, make negative remarks, etc. To than basically be told numerous times to leave when I was already leaving, and that to have this SO CALLED "MANAGER" of maybe 24 years old or so that I am threatening them when I make a statement of I got you bro, I AM LEAVING. I have nothing positive to say about your company to others that I engage with due to the treatment I have received from your "Manager." You may want to focus on actual leadership, management, customer service, and conflict resolution, vice DEI. read more

I bought $10 of what were sold as live bst larvae on 12/11which were stored in their fridge to keep them dormant. At home, I put them in room temp sawdust and waited. After hours they never showed life. so, I took them in my container w/receipt back and the dept. mgr said she would return my $ if I brought back their containers. Then, I couldn't get back until 12/22 and the genl. mgr, Riley, said the dept mgr was out of town and said she remembered seeing the larvae moving when I bought them - a lie that didn't even make sense. She refused to refund my $ and told me to come back a 3rd time when the dept mgr was there (didn't say when that would be). I was irate and told her so. This Petco branch has consistently been going downhill for the past five years. From tough traffic to overflowing garbage cans outside, to the crazy pricing increases / decreases, and fluctuations. The lack of consistency has been really tough to watch. It became so bad. I switched brands of dog food and started going to superior foods and they are awesome! Even more discouraging has been the revolving door of pet groomers and the grooming management/app. We've taken our dogs and cats there for years, but no more, If you're looking for good service and great pet food try Superior In Poulsbo or Country Pet in Kingston. Had to book a couple weeks in advance to get a VETCO appointment for vaccinations at this location. I got several texts asking me to confirm, which I did. We show up and as we're walking in the door, we receive a notification that our appointment was canceled because the VETCO clinic suddenly decided to not open today. I took time off from work for this. Terrible...absolutely terrible! Besides the fact the food and chewies are 75% more expensive than Petsmart...No idea why. The dog training area at Petco is a like the size of a cardboard box and the store itself is as inviting as a warehouse. Petsmart is way better than this place! read more

Great grooming service! I've never been to a groomer who also brushes teeth - and our chihuahua mixes needed it. Our female doesn't like to go for walks and her nails were getting painfully long. I tried several groomers on Bainbridge Is. and nobody would return my calls. Petco to the rescue! They even let me arrange my appointment so that both dogs could go in together (they are calmer that way) The staff was friendly and polite which is kind of rare during this pandemic because so many serving the public are being mistreated. I have used the grooming services at Petco for about 6 years. The groomer I used left last year and the results have been hit or miss in 2022. Also, they have begun charging quite a premium if your dog has any knots on their coat. My small dog gets groomed there every month. I spent about 30 minutes brushing her the morning of our last visit. I even mentioned this to the groomer. When I picked her up and questioned why the extra charge, I was told she had 1-2 tiny knots on her belly. So, now we have to groom our dog before they groom the dog! Also, her haircut was uneven in several places, am I responsible for that too? I am planning to find another groomer ASAP. If you are raising the price just do so, and I do expect a better haircut. read more

I had a grooming appt today for 9:45. Showed up by 9:35, and see the store doesn't open until 10:00. So we wait until the store opens. There was another customer also waiting outside in the rain for their 9:45 grooming appt. We all go inside. They also the other customer to go in for their appt and now they are telling us that we are late and they cannot do our appt. The sales associate is rude and tells us we are late and cannot do our appointment. We were the first ones there waiting in the parking lot. Nothing in any of the email or text correspondence from petco told us we had to call the store when we got there so how were we or the other customer supposed to know that. They then say they will try to get us in but it might be a couple of hours and by this point because of all the commotion and others dogs coming in and out our dog begins to get excited so they tell us we can't come in at all for the appt. He only got excited because of their terrible customer service. We had to wait weeks for this appointment because of how booked up all groomers in the are are and now we can't get in. I do not recommend petco for their grooming services or because of their terrible customer service. read more

I have brought my dog in multiple times over the last year and a half only for Petco grooming to turn us away for various reasons. They don't advertise why they will turn you away, you get there and they are like no it doesn't look like your dog has all their vaccinations (which she does and she had them done AT Petco!) Nope your dog looks like she has a yeast infection in her ear so we won't see her. This is the 4th time, I'm done with this place. Don't bring your pets here. My dog is older but healthy and I'm tired of them finding every excuse not to bathe her, it's a bath no a doctors appointment. read more

We were delightfully surprised to find the BEST grooming experience our dog has ever had. This PETCO store is okay, but our dog's groomer, Sunni was great. Our dog was nervous, as it was his first time at Petco, but Sunni understood and worked with him. Her attitude from the get go was just what you would want with someone grooming your dog: empathetic and positive. She was able to handle our 55 lb dog with no problem, allowing her to really clean up his paws (which he hates), spring clean his undercoat and returned him smelling and looking great. As others have said: good for a quick stop for essentials but not much else. I prefer to frequent the small, locally owned pet stores in Kingston and Poulsbo. This Petco is very conveniently located, especially when I'm also doing errands at Home Depot or Walmart (also 2 star stores - maybe it's in the water?) but the prices are not much better than these smaller pet stores, and the service is no where near as good as the independents provide. read more

not sure where to begin. had appointment yesterday for grooming . gave her meds for her anxiety. told them i did they stated they couldn't take her, no vet on site,. asked why they didn't tell me or have on website, she stated because people would bring them in and not tell them. i asked what if they do .. she stated if the dog laid down quiet they would call the owner to come and get them' so i took her back today. But the reason I wrote this review hoping a higher level Petco executive may take a closer look at their employee regarding customer service, especially in the aquarium area. Very rude customer service in the Aquarium section. I come here LITERALLY 5+ times a week, sometimes twice a day. I have lots of fish, frogs and cats to feed and care for and this Petco just happens to be a half mile from my house. I will no longer be shopping here purely due to the horribly rude woman who I believe is the manager. I never ask for help (nor am I ever asked if I need it despite sometimes spending 40min in the store) because I don't care for my animals off of chain stores gross misinformation, yet for whatever reason I'm treated so rudely by her EVERY TIME. As if it's a burden that I've walked up smiling & ready to check out? It's disheartening for me because besides spending hundreds a month there - I too work customer service, and would never want a customer who spends money at my business to regret it or leave upset purely because of my horrible condescending attitude and service. Took my cats in for vaccines at Petco's Vet, and Dr Brewer and his team were absolutely phenomenal. They were great with my cats and made them feel comfortable, but also worked quickly so we didn't have to wait too long. Their budgies/parakeets are not well kept or monitored sufficiently for health issues. Last time I went in there was a very sad looking parakeet on the bottom of the enclosure, sick (puffed and motionless) absolutely covered in the other birds' excrement. The parakeets were the only birds they had in stock, so I'm not sure I understand why the deathly ill parakeet was on the bottom long enough to become covered in feces. I was also literally too stunned at how obvious and how dire the situation was to say anything (shame on me). I was in to take home a budgie of my own, and took the healthiest looking young'un I could find. Once home, he immediately showed signs of illness. Obviously, I'm not landing hundreds of dollars on a parakeet from Petco since they only cost $25.99 or whatever, but just because these birds are easy to breed and relatively inexpensive to keep does not mean they should be treated like disposable objects, which is what that big chain retail environment seems to do. The entry-level customer service staff are incredibly hit or miss at the Poulsbo location (they're either really caring, smart individuals or animal-inept people who obviously just needed a part-time job), but I found that the upper management was disingenuous at best, which is fine, and brusk and inflexible at worst, which is unacceptable given the quality of the rest of the mechanics of their store. Oh, and FYI, DoorDash does their same day delivery, and 2/3 of the drivers I've tried to use in the past month or so couldn't actually get a product from the store in Poulsbo to my house in Kitsap. I'm still waiting for a refund on one of those items. I got my budgie, and he's getting better now thanks to the antibiotics he's on, but no amount of return policy hoo-ha is worth seeing all of those birds being infected and then sold for dirt cheap. read more

On May 21, 2012, Groomer #43, Ticket #947322, groomed my 11 year old therapy dog. When I picked her up five hours after taking her in for her appointment, Sandy was lame in her left leg. She was barely able to walk to the car. I had to help her up the car ramp. After waiting a few days and hoping that she would get better, I took her to our vet. After xrays and $900 dollars later, she was diagnosed with a fractured greater tubercle. The top of her shoulder bone was broken off. Horror of horrors, our stoic, brave collie had endured unimaginable pain as a result a severe blunt blow to her left shoulder. Every person in Petco had to have heard her scream in pain when she fell off the grooming table and fractured her shoulder. Yet, not a single Petco employee informed me of a "possible" injury while in their care. I HATE PETCO! read more

We could not be happier with the grooming done on our standard poodle. The woman was so kind and gentle with him, as this was his first full grooming job. Got 2 of my dogs baths here about a month and a half ago. I broght in their vaccine records and they did receive the baths. They didnt bother to clean their ears and when I came in today to get one of their nails trimmed they claimed that my dog had never been there before therefore they needed vaccine records. I've been going there for years and I'm shocked to see so many bad reviews. I've been working in retail my whole life and I think maybe I just understand how a store works a little better?? I know they're very very understaffed and unlike other retail stores they have the responsibility of taking care of animals on top of stocking shelves and customer service. I also understand that they honestly do the best they human can under the circumstances. sometimes not all of the cages are in perfect condition but they always care and do what they can. I always find what I need and I always get my questions answered expertly. They're a very knowledgeable group who I know don't receive paid training for what they know. It's all sought out on their own time and of their own volition. The groomers are horridly underrated, they punch out high quality grooms for a fraction of the cost of a personal groomer! Try getting that kind of cut at another petco or chain store! they most do shave- downs! These ladies do nothing but the best and treat each dog as if their own. I highly encourage you to go here. They know what they're talking about and have a lot of heart. These are underpaid, caring individuals who suffer the indignities of a gross job because they genuinely want to make a difference in the lives of animals. And i think that's a noble cause. read more

Ill give this a more UPDATED review. Customer service was pretty good. Sometimes it was hard to find someone to ask a question about a product. But when there is someone, they give me a more in depth answer, rather than a "oh yeah thats good". People are really friendly here. I took my dog to see Courtney for a grooming appointment, and it went great! I'll never take my dog any place else again. Courtney was extremely friendly and my dog was both happy and handsome afterwards. The grooming staff treats the animals with great care and are all very kind. The young gal was rude and totally refused to help me while I was attempting to purchase multiple items for a large dog - - she walked away after I wasn't receptive to her suggestion I attend some training class at 99,95 at the local park. In order to pay, I had to run her down and she was literally hiding with another employee in the bird section "talking." I will not frequent this store completely and drive the extra miles to Silverdale and Petsmart! - - - it will go out of business unless they change their ways! read more
