Got to Petco and had brought my dog in for a nail trim and was told I should have made an appointment. I mentioned that I had tried but no one picks up the phone. Meanwhile it's clear I have interrupted coworker drama so instead of trying to wok with me, they said, "This isn't a good time". The last two times I went to buy dog food, no one was up front to ring the register, worker passed by me in silence. Finally someone in grooming said all items are going through that register and I said, ok, maybe put a sign up front. The weekly flyer advertised $10 off Soresto flea collars. I checked online and saw that their regular price is $55. This is the same as several other web sites. When I went to purchase it at the Revere store, I was told that the price was $79. I told them that the price on their web site is $55. The cashier told me that they "have no way of knowing" the price on their web site. Really? It is the same company!... She verified the web site price on her cell phone and charged me $55. I had to tell her that the ad for her store promised $10 off for the flea collar. Make sure that you know your prices when you go to this store. read more

When a grooming employee called out for a doctor's appointment, they cancelled on a couple days' notice and rescheduled me. Then they cancelled that just a couple hours before the rescheduled time because that grooming employee didn't show up. All they could offer for a rescheduling time at that point was almost two weeks away. I can't be bending my schedule, and on short notice, to accommodate Petco's under-staffing and lack of management. PetSmart in Saugus penciled me in for a time just two days away. read more

My local groomer left the business and I decided to try Petco on a whim. I was very impressed with the outcome. Heidi called me to provide me with a timing update mid-appointment and my Goldendoodle came out looking great. read more

Cleanest Petco I've seen. Staff really care about the health of the animals. I tried purchasing a fish but they told me he was not healthy enough to sell yet which I found great because other stores would sell you sick fish. Great store read more

I have brought my dog to the groomers many times and they do a fantastic job. My dog is happy and looks and smells great. The groomers are knowledgeable and friendly. My only complaint is that it does often take a long time to check in. I know it's not the groomers fault since they are checking in and out, as well as doing the service. I think this petco is a little understaffed. Other than that I would recommend to anyone. I've been treated very well and more importantly my dog is treated even better! read more

The staff at the Revere Petco are nice but not trained enough. I brought my 12 lb dog in for his usual beauty treatment. I usually go to the Petsmart in Saugus but thought since this was closer I would give it a shot. He did get his bath but they could only cut his back nails. What? I told them he isn't happy when he has nails cut. They went to cut them and surprise - he wasn't happy. They only did the back because doing the front made him "jumpy". Petsmart in Saugus never has a problem cutting his nails. They stand to his side, reach under him and take the opposite foot. This way he can't bite them. Easy as pie. Apparently the staff in Revere aren't bright enough to figure this out. Now I have to again take my dog to have his nails cut. Sorry Petco I want trained folks working on my dog. read more

They were very helpful with suggestions as to what to give my cat for his dry skin. They also were good with suggestions for Christmas gifts. The only reason I did not rate this a 5, is that the weather was pouring rain and ice, and I was not even offered a bag to cover the scratching post I'd just bought. I am a usual at petcos in the area, generally to get my pup's nails trimmed/grinder. This one in revere just popped up and I just moved to revere so thought I'd give convenience a try. Now, my dog is pretty nervous when going into the groomer, and so the employee usually struggles to get her to come to the grooming area. However, the groomer working at the time (David R.) consulted with her, took the time to get her calm and used to him (as much as he could), and then lead her into the grooming area. One she was on the table, she was very timid (as she usually is), but he went very slow and checked with me (thumbs up) halfway through. A few minutes later they were done and she came out (still wanting to get out of the groomers room), but definitely calmer than I've seen her in the past. The groomer really took his time to diagnose the best approach for her needs/attitude, and I respect that. Great work, will definitely go back, to probably even get her a full package. read more

This is one of the best Petco's out there. You must go here if you experienced the bad sides of other Petcos or Petsmarts. This store really does show how it is the employees and the individual store that should be seen as bad not the company. I know that there has been many bad reviews of Petcos and Petsmarts mistreating and giving bad tips about pets, but as an aquarist, this place was very informative and took good care of their animals. Usually when you go to big chain pet stores (not all) the tanks have dead or diseased fish and the reptiles are malnutritious, but all the fish and reptiles were healthy. Even the tank of rosy minnows there were only 1-2 fish that were dead(most rosy minnows tanks have 10 dead and the water being cloudy). Moving on to the crickets. Yes the crickets. Most pet stores when you go to the crickets it is just a large bin with medium size crickets and some dead ones. There would be some crickets in plastic containers that range in different size on the shelf. However in this pet store there are 4 bins of crickets(Tupperware) arranged on sliding shelves. The bins had a cover that had a large mesh screen (good ventilation). Out of curiosity, I looked into each bin (I don't think I'm suppose to unless I'm the employee) and there were tons of crickets.The first container had large crickets, the second with medium, third had small, and the last had pin heads. Each bin also had lots of egg flats. As an aquarist I love to go to the aquarium part of every pet store I go to. Most place are good as in they have a variety of fish but what makes this store stands out beside the fish is that it has clear water for all tanks including the turtle tank. What makes it the best is the choice and health of the plants. As you can see in the picture 7 and 8 (left to right) you can see there is a tank that is dedicated to plants it even has a high led light. The picture that is shone is an older picture. The las time I went there(2 weeks from this post) the tank was full of healthy green plants. I'm talking about plants that most of the other stores don't have but is still common in the aquarium hobby. There are also rings of java fern and anubias tied to driftwood in the tanks with the fish. So if you live in Boston and are close by to this store I would highly recommend you visiting this store first before buying the plants online. I am also a fan of bettas, I own 3(I know its not a lot compared to some), which I decided it should be its own paragraph since they are usually separated in the aquarium hobby. The bettas all had clean water and from what I saw were healthy(no fin rot). The only problem was that on one of the shelf they were stacked(thus some were flaring which can stress them). I did see a white dumbo and some other colorings that you don't see too often. As a reptile lover, although I only own a frog but I'm a big fan of leopards and beardies, the reptiles were very healthy. It is the same setup as the other Petcos, but the health of the reptiles were good. One way to tell for example is the leopard geckos were pretty plump and there were no nip tails which was the same as the beardies. There were no deformed limbs or malnutrioned reptiles as far as I know. As far as snakes I did see a clean shed from one of the ball pythons and the snake was nice and shiny. In conclusion, this store was fantastic. One thing that was different is this store is a new store, about a year and a half from this post. You can see that Petco is really trying to step up their game in terms of the pets health. The employees were also friendly. The aquarium specialist was knowledgeable of aquariums unlike some employees in other stores who don't know anything except that they want you to buy. I wish I could give this place a better review because it's fairly close to where we live, but I'm finally fed up and will not be returning, at least not to the grooming station! The Saturday groomer there always looks like she hates her job. She never acknowledges us, always complains about how our dog tried to bite her during a nail trim. Seriously? No other groomer at any other Petco or PetSmart has ever said that, and no one my dog has come in contact with ever experienced anything close to a bite! She's the sweetest dog, and if anything is a little timid. There was another groomer there one of the times we went to this Petco and she was really nice with our dog (and no complains about any biting either)! We keep returning hoping this groomer would be there again, but alas, it's always the mean lady. Maybe she needs to get some training on how to interact with dogs, or just change her job. We will not be returning. read more
