When we walked into the store we went to go look at the geckos. We were VERY disappointed at what we saw. There was a gecko in a tank that was SO pale, barely breathing, and it literally looked like it was going to die any second and no one was doing anything. We were in there for a very long time and throughout that time the employees literally walked past it and looked at it and did nothing. We were SO sad and angry. This poor thing deserves better. I love Petco and shop here on the regular for my cat's special diet. She's an older gal, and needs a kidney friendly diet. Fortunately, Petco sells her specialty food and I'm able to swing in here to get it. The store itself is really nice, and carries a variety of product for just about everyone. I've noticed over the years that some stores are more dog heavy and don't give enough aisle space for us cat owners. Petco does! They also have adoption events on the regular along with foster organizations that have cats available for adoption when you walk in. Granted you have to go through the rescue, but I love that you can get another pet while shopping for your original pet here. They do offer grooming services but my cat doesn't need that so we don't utilize it. I don't think they have a pets hotel like Petsmart does, which is kind of a bummer. I'm not sure why they don't since it would be super useful. Occasionally they have staff shortages here so that's my only complaint. I come at odd times (Weekend mornings) so maybe that's not the most staffed timed available. Overall this place is a nice asset to Rochester Hills. read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR GROOMING. I have been coming to the Rochester PETCO location for years and today they lost a customer. Jennifer W, groomer and supposed salon manager, was completely rude and unwelcoming. We have an 11 lb Bichin Poodle that was to be groomed. He had some matting under the chin but nothing that couldn't be brushed out. She immediately said she needed to shave him while she roughly stuck the comb in his fur saying she couldn't pull it through. She also stated she would not be spending 6 hours brushing him out. My husband asked her to try her best and reminded her we did not want him shaved. After only 1 HOUR and 45 min she had already called to tell me he was ready to be picked up. She had completely shaved him down. There is no way she even attempted to brush him out in that small amount of time. After I called the store and spoke to her along with the store manager they stood by their employee. She was so rude to me over the phone I am appalled PETCO is letting her represent them. Jennifer W claimed she wasn't about to injure my animal by brushing him out (his matting was no where near that) and was basically told oh well. The store manager told me they are short staffed and they don't have time to brush the dog out. No one took accountability for Jennifer W lack of customer service or rudeness. I feel sick I trusted her with my animal today and will not be returning. read more

My pup has been doing here for grooming for a while now. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Our groomer is fantastic. She always trims and bathes my dog exactly as I request or she makes certain to ask about what I'd like done for her before it's done. I've never once had a problem with the groomers or the staff and I've purchased several fish from their depts as well and they are beautiful and healthy. I called this location on yesterday, 7/17/23, to inquire about the VetCo vaccination clinic for my 9-week-old pup. I simply asked about pricing to get an idea of what to anticipate. The lady stated, "I'm trying to find the pricing, but I'm pretty sure it's not too bad since people always bring their pets in and tend to come back." Huh? What does that have to do with anything? Rather than saying, I'll have someone call you once they arrive; she starts rambling nonsense. I didn't go in and I won't ever go in. I went looking for an alternative place for my pup to go potty and expected to spend quite a bit of money but one of the store employees (could've been the manager) was so awesome at giving me her honest opinion and helped me save some money! I absolutely loved stopping into this location! The place itself was large and very clean! There was the adoptable kitties in the front and a friendly employee greeting everyone when they walked in. Everything is laid out so nicely! My dogs LOVE the Lamb Chop toy so I was thrilled that they had it in stock. The Petco closest to me stopped carrying this particular toy. It was on sale for $10. I know I could've gotten it cheaper on Amazon, but I would definitely give my money to an awesome business instead. Alexis helped me at the counter and she was AMAZING! I could instantly tell she loved her job and she loved animals! She really made me feel valued and as a customer, that's all you could ever want. I went in today to purchase a turtle and after waiting over 20 minutes I decided to go look for someone to help me. I spotted a girl in the back but when she saw me she immediately turned and ran down another isle, I followed her and asked for assistance and she responded immediately with an attitude telling me it was "a bell" i could ring up front when I was ready to check out. I politely told her I was trying to purchase a turtle not check out and she rudely asked me if I had everything set up. I told her yes and she insisted she didn't believe me so I asked her was she refusing to sell me the turtle and she said yes and she would go get the team lead "Lucas" to explain why I couldn't get the turtle. After waiting another 10 minutes for him to come, I explained the same thing to him and showed him a video of my old tank set up (since the debate was weather I had a tank or not) and he proceeded to give me a pop quiz on what I did or didn't have at home then told me I needed 2 filters, my heater I had wasn't "good enough" etc... mind you I've told this man a million times that was my old fish tank set up, I showed him that picture to reassure them that I had a tank which was the start of this debate anyways he refused to sell me the turtle and blatantly told me "he didn't believe and that was the end of discussion" VERY RACIST PLACE! read more

I'm not sure why all these reviews are positive. Tonight, my Levi - a mini goldendoodle AVOIDED a training session with another dog to make sure we didn't interrupt. Levi was being pet by another couple when the dog came towards us who was in training, Levi went to sniff the other dog when I was scolded in front of the entire store with her rude attitude telling me that he must not come any closer than three feet. That it's my hands that will get bit when I have to separate them. We went out of OUR way to avoid them and cannot be more humiliated after our experience, will never go back. Went in with a receipt that was from last year for a dog harness I never used, it was too small. They would not allow me to exchange the harness for the correct size even when the one I was trying to exchange was clearly unused and they still carry the exact same harness, I just wanted to exchange it. Yes it was past the "return date" but there wasn't any reason they couldn't have exchanged the harness for me, not one. Petco just lost a customer. When there are so many other pet supply places with great customer service why would anyone shop here? What a joke. read more

Emily was great with my fur baby! He went in for a bath and brush. His shedding has greatly reduced. Emily called me to tell me my pup would be finished in 10 mins to give me time to get there. I loved that he didn't have to wait. The only thing I didn't care for was the amount of staff in a small room with Covid going around. Everyone had masks but I was uneasy about the amount of people. If they are that busy they need more space for grooming. read more

Poorly set up cat grooming appointment. I drove 30 minutes there only for them to let me know they couldn't do anything for me because my cat did not like the sound of the blow drier so they couldn't do any grooming. In the future when booking a cat grooming appointment they should ask questions to ensure it is worth everyone's time. Of course my cat does not like a loud sound, a groomer should be able to work around that. read more

The service here is top notch. I never expect such friendly service when going to the bigger "box" type pet stores like Petco, so I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone was here from the moment we walked in! You can tell that they really care about what they do and they loved our pets! The grooming services were fantastic (Erica was our groomer), the pet coach (Mary) was super helpful, and everyone overall was just a pleasure to work with. So glad this location opened! I brought my 17 week old puppy in to look around and get in some socializing. Mary there and all the staff are amazing. Mary had so much information for me! My furbaby is a mixed rescue and yes she has terrier in her( the terrifying pit )and i got so much info on what she needs. The best part is they have puppy playtime free of charge supervised by their awesome trainer Stacy! How amazing is it there is a place that won't charge you to bring your puppies in to socialize and you meet really great people. read more

This is the BEST Petco I have been to in terms of customer service and upkeep. I have been to nearly every Petco in Metro Detroit and this one stood out the most to me. This location recently opened up this year so I decided to make a visit to see their store. Upon entering, I was greeted by nearly every employee walking by including the one sitting at the desk on the left side of the store. One of the employees (Tyler) assisted me in finding their Betta fish selection. Tyler was very helpful and went above and beyond my expectations. Even though the specific Betta type I was looking to buy was not in stock (Halfmoon Kings), he offered to take my information down to call me when it became available. Tyler seemed very knowledgable about the aquatic fish in the store and told me he would check next weeks shipment inventory to see if he could find more of the Betta varieties I was looking for. The store is well organized and clean; it still has that brand new building smell to it. This might be my new go to Petco spot for future pet needs. Thank you. read more

I had a poor experience at this store. I went to the store 3 times with my dog for his haircut and got 3 different answers each time. Grooming is supposedly open until 8pm. First time I went around 6pm, the groomers were gone for the day. The store lady told me to come next day at same time and that no appointment is needed for haircut. Second day, no groomers were there and lady at front desk said an appointment is needed for haircut and scheduled the appointment Third time I went for scheduled appointment and groomer says that bath is recommended with haircut and she does not have time to include bath and has to reschedule. Else, I have to agree to an 'unfinished' look! She was rude in how she spoke and checked my dog. For a standard grooming service like haircut, I would expect a consistent answer from everyone at the store! read more

I had negative customer experiences at this Petco store on Rochester Rd. The first time I went a month ago for my dog's grooming, I was not greeted by the woman at the grooming sign-in desk. She only asked me for my dog's name. I figured she maybe having a rough start to her day, so I looked passed that and continue with the appointment. Fast forwarding to today, May 1st '21, I returned to that store for another scheduled grooming service. The same woman (wish I had her name) was at the desk and a guy with a shirt on with the initials "JJ" was standing on the side. I approach them with my dog and was not greeted by the woman nor the guy. I spoke, "Morning!", no response from the guy, however, the woman, again, just asked me for my dog's name. The guy, "JJ", proceed to tell the woman he is going to check my dog and as he reaches for him, I interrupted him, and I asked him 'who are you and where is the person I made the appointment with?' No response from him, but the woman stated the individual was running late. The guy tells the woman at the desk he is going to prep the room in the back for service. At this point, I am confused. I am not sure who is going to provide the services for my dog because no one is giving me further info. Then the woman just repeats the services I made the appointment for and no further info. I paused, made eye contact with her, and said, 'It's cancelled.' My dog and I proceeded to walk out the store. As I was walking out, I began to wonder if my 'skin color' was the cause of these negative customer experiences??? read more

I stopped by the new store to grab some cat food for my 14 year old kitties. The price per can is .10 more than at Kroger. When approached by a worker (I did not seek her out) I was asked if she could help me. I said I was surprised the price per can was more expensive than Kroger. She replied with a tone, "Good thing we have price matching." I asked if they sold 9 Lives and again with a sassy tone she said, "No, 9 Lives does not meet our nutritional requirements." Here's the thing--don't try to pet-parent shame me. My cats are well loved and very particular. I don't care if I can return cans of partially eaten cat food. I came into your new store to buy cat food. I'm not a cat food snob. My cats won't eat all types of food. Your tone made me walk out and buy NOTHING. I won't return to this location. Not all pet parents buy expensive food. To make me feel bad/shamed for asking about a certain product is not acceptable. I'm pretty certain that the 9 Lives brand has been around longer than the employee who approached me. read more
