Most of my purchases at the Petco in Shoreline (Aurora Village) from my wallet can be categorized into rodent-related or fish-related. I had mice, hamsters, rats, and a striped Danio (fish) growing up and this Petco was the closest store to the house with prices in the budget range of a kid earning a weekly allowance and later working as a dogsitter/housesitter/plant waterer and in multiple roles at a pool. They had most of the routine supplies I needed, as well as the pets themselves. One of the mice I got, Lucky, my mom and sister got for me when they saw a person with a snake buying the mice for the snake... She only lived a few days after I got her. Some of the more specialty products, such as medicine and the syringes needed to give the rodents their medicine, we needed to go to more rodent-centric pet stores to get. The fish-related products I needed I could get here 9 times out of 10. Workers have been knowledgable and helpful in my experience. The parking lot is large and shared, that has not been a problem in my coming here. read more

The customer service from the cashier with long blonde hair who always wears a mask deserves ZERO star. I'm honestly still upset about what happened at this store. Every time my family checks out here, the cashier with long blonde hair is rude and unprofessional--but this last time was the worst. Once, I bought two fish in separate bags, and my 4-year-old--just being an excited little kid--gently shook one of the bags for a second or two. The cashier snapped. She completely lost her cool and yelled at my child. He's four. It was shocking and upsetting, but I stayed quiet because I wanted to believe maybe she was having a bad day or struggling emotionally. We decided to give the store another chance since it's the closest one to our house. We went back to buy four betta fish. Unfortunately, we got the same cashier again. Out of nowhere, she asked if I had tanks for the fish. I said yes--we have four separate tanks. Then she demanded to see pictures of the tanks or she wouldn't sell them to me. What?? There was no sign anywhere in the store saying that customers must show photos of their tanks before buying fish. How would I possibly know that? It felt like she made up a rule just to be difficult. I was so shocked and frustrated that I didn't even bother going home to take pictures. I just walked out. The cashier and someone who claimed to be the manager both insisted that each betta fish needs a 5-gallon tank. That's not standard at most stores, and it's definitely not enforced this aggressively or rudely. Even if they had concerns about animal welfare, there's a right way to speak to people. This wasn't it. The way we were treated--especially my child--was uncalled for and downright humiliating. I don't feel comfortable going back. I shouldn't be treated like a suspect or questioned aggressively just because I want to buy fish. read more

Over the years my dog did get mixed quality haircuts,  but this time has to be the worst trim ever.  Looks sloppy, choppy, lumpy like they just don't care.  With tip costing over $60, this is what I get?  I can do better than that at home.  I will have to think twice to bring my dog back again. read more

A few years ago Kaitlyn (grooming manager) abruptly resigned from Shoreline Petco as did all the other groomers. She taught groomers how to do a springer cut for years using my dog Stanley. After she left, Stanley was assigned to a new young male groomer who appeared very anxious and inexperienced. Since I had never had a problem with Shoreline Petco I left Stanley there. With the inexperienced new male groomer Stanley became very anxious and tried to jump off the table. I took him to the Lynnwood Petco after that without problems. However the young male groomer wrote a note blaming Stanley for his own incompetence and for scaring my dog. Later all Petcos banned Stanley from grooming and cancelled my appointment with less than 24 hours notice. They said he was elderly and unmanageable. Stanley is 8 y/o and is not elderly and certainly not unmanageable. Liz at Shoreline Petco was exceptionally rude when she called me to tell me Stanley was banned from all Petco groomers and stated anyone who groomed him would lose their job. I am having Stanley groomed at Hippie Hounds who have comparable prices and do much better work. I will never shop or groom at any Petco ever again. They are very dishonest and won't accept responsibility for problems that they themselves create with animals in their care. Stay away from Petco. They were a bit more expensive but awesome groomers which is why I am following up at Hippie Hounds who are also very good. **This review is for dog training and overall store selection** I highly recommend dog training sessions here with Arlen! We started taking our 4-month old pitbull mix puppy here for basic training and never looked back. As an aside, we've had experiences taking our dog to other places like West Seattle Wonder Dogs and Paws4Training (which I don't recommend BTW). Arlen has been the most helpful and structured, confident dog trainer who truly wants the best for you and your dog. Our dog loves him a lot, and she thrives from the structure that he has laid out for her. She picks up his teachings so quickly and it's all positive reinforcement. He's great at breaking down the logic behind his teachings and giving us feedback in a corrective but non-judgmental way. We feel very comfortable taking his advice not just on training but also with regards to treat and food selection. Also: he trains all the other Petco trainers in the greater Seattle area. Compared to other Petco locations, this one tends to be well stocked with more selection compared to other locations. We always love coming here. read more

This Petco is AWESOME. Everyone is SO friendly! We got a puppy 4 months ago and since then we are regular at this Petco! Starting with their training - Arlen is the best! He is really knowledgeable and provides great rewards based training. My puppy has high energy and he sure has plenty of experiences with any type of dog! My dog has been improving so much and I am looking forward to continue training with Arlen. Then grooming - their puppy bath package is unbelievable. Puppy bath has unbelievably affordable price for up to 6 months puppy. I definitely took advantage of this. Now my puppy is over 6 months old I am paying regular pricing but its still totally worth it. Everyone is SO nice and I can see that my puppy is very well treated and loved from all staffs. The rudest groomer I've ever encountered. Twice he refused to groom my cocker spaniel puppy. The first time was because of too many matts so I got all the matts out with some great clippers and some dog-loving friends to help me. So I went back and with the same rudeness, he said there was a Matt on his ear and couldn't take him!! The Matt was a size of a quarter! We have been going here for 8 years, but because one of our dogs turned 12 they refused to groom them any longer despite our veterinarian advising it was perfectly safe. The staff were rude and incredibly unsympathetic. I'm not happy to write this review but I feel obligated to share my experience so that others can be aware. I was followed from when I first stepped into the store until I completed my purchase. When I was browsing around, I had an employee following me around which made me feel extremely uncomfortable especially since I already have anxiety. He followed me around until I went to the cash register, he hung around the back of the cashier eves-dropping my conversation/transaction with the cashier until I left. As a customer with many pets who frequent pet stores, I did not feel like a valued customer because I wasn't treated as such. I didn't catch the gentleman's name but he may have been the manager (tall man of east-asian decent). The customer service from the other employee's was good except for the man who followed me. I've seen this place improve over the years. I come here for dog food and all things guinea pig. And 2 of our dogs get their nails clipped here. I didn't know anything about guinea pigs when I adopted them from the shelter. One of the sales people were so helpful with my supply decisions and they even printed out a pamphlet for me when all the ones near the critter section were all out. When we adopted a new dog one of the cashiers gave me a "new parent" booklet. I always get an exuberant greeting when I walk in the door. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Liz at the grooming department was simply unprofessional and carried a terrible attitude towards us. We understand our dog arrived 15 minutes after his appointment but we called them ahead of time to let them know we were running late since our dog had been just rescued and getting him in and out of the car was harder as I'm pregnant and he's too scared he won't move. Regardless of explaining the situation to Liz, she rudely refused to take our dog, she just had many excuses to not take him and kept rudely telling my mother in law that she couldn't understand her because of her accent. We've discriminated against before because of our accent but to use that against us to refuse service is a whole other level. Not only we left with our dog not being helped but ourselves being disrespected and unfairly faulted for the situation. It's not all petcos. Because we've taken our 4 other dogs to other grooming location and they have been caring and helpful. Just Liz at the shoreline Petco at 205th is poorly mannered and we highly recommend you take precautions before booking. I don't usually go to this location but if I'm at Costco and in need of cat supplies, sometimes I'll stop in. The parking is easy, just watch where you walk. Sometimes there's dog bombs in the lot that their owners neglect to retrieve. The aisles are usually clear but sometimes dusty. I know this because I get a little congested every time I nip inside for my items. I don't understand how there can always be people waiting to check out when the store appears empty. Nor do I understand how an employee can't answer a question about pet supplies. I made this yelp account to specifically write this review and hope that someone at corporate sees this. Over the past few months I have noticed the animal care in this store is essentially non existent. I have found dead bettas seen dead lizards being pulled from the cages and even seen all of the hermit crabs dead. There is always dead fish and algae in the tanks. When I have brought this up to the staff they let me know new management has changed the focus. When I talked to David the manager he didn't seem concerned or apologetic. Animals are clearly suffering in this store and no one will acknowledge my concerns. I hope someone goes in and checks this store. read more

took both of my dogs to the groomer here. My first girl went in and got a decent enough haircut but they said she was scared and because she's 12 (old for some dogs but not for Yorkies) they wouldn't see her anymore and recommended she be put under anesthesia at a nearby vet for grooming. I then took my boy in who is much braver but has some allergies he's being treated for. They informed me (Though the website has NO mention of this) that if a dog is on Apoquel that it's "dangerous" and "irresponsible" to groom them. I checked with my vet who said this is an absurd statement and that there's no danger at all. I was again referred to this vet they know at petco to have my dog put under anesthesia. Anesthesia is extremely dangerous for dogs and should not be taken lightly. I haven't figured out the scam yet but I think this place is getting kickbacks from an overpriced vet for recommending dangerous procedures. AVOID AT ALL COSTS read more

We recently got a puppy and she enjoys the puppy play time and puppy class. Arlen is funny and a knowledgeable trainer. The trainer's demeanor sets the tone and Arlen makes both dogs and parents feel at ease. I've heard other Petcos don't allow the owners in with their puppies during playtime which I don't agree with. We also get our dogs groomed here. The groomers are nice and have longevity at this store. Overall the employees are all pretty friendly and customer service oriented. read more

Their dog training is the worst and not even worth the discounted price compared to other options in the area. Their free puppy socialization is not even worth the $0.00 price point which feels like a time share scheme to sit you down and sell you on their "wonderful" services. I'm not sure if it's the philosophy from the top, which while they say is positive reinforcement is actually something else masquerading as such. It could also be that they hire people with just enough knowledge to create a horrifying environment. One visit was enough for us and our pup. Word of warning to anyone considering this place as a long term solution for puppy training and socialization, your dog will not progress to be well acclimated with other dogs. Solely based on the grooming department as my cashier for my dog food and leash was excellent. Super disappointed in the haircut my dog got. It took six and a half hours (they told me it would be about 3 and a half hours) and the cut is uneven and her face trim is lopsided and her undereye is very dirty. I tried to check in twenty minutes early (I've never had an issue at any other Petco doing that in the last five years) and they said we couldn't check in until 12 and the woman was quite rude about it. I was then called at 5:15pm (appointment started at noon) and was informed my pup would be ready in 45 minutes. I showed up and she wasn't even off the table. They said it would be ten more minutes....at 6:30 we finally left. I will never go back to this store. The actual that did the grooming was nice enough (her team was not) but she did not do a good job. I have to do a lot of trimming to even everything out. If you want a good cut, go to Interbay Petco. I go frequently to this place and to buy mostly dog food and fishes; and noticed they groom pets and I decided two or three months ago to get my dog groom their and keep my business locally. So I made appointment and drop off my dog, but not to say my experience wasn't so pleasant with the intro approach and giving my dog to the groomer was even worried some and I won't mention his name. In little words I sent my wife to get our dog and the experience was just even more awful and our dog was just scared and his paw was bleeding. Not to speak bad about this business, but yesterday i drop off my dog else's where to get groom and they could not get my dog groom, they mentioned that my dog was probably traumatized by it's last experience with Petco; a lot of business in the area where I live that do an amazing work and even if I have to pay more and I will not bring my Dog to get groom at Petro even if it was free grooming. It's difficult. to shop at this Petco venue when the dog trainers are sending multiple owners and their dogs down multiple isles at once and you have to try two different isles just trying to get around one of the trainers who has once again moved into your way and seems oblivious to your presence bc he's busy shouting directions to owners and then only to have an owner w/ dog walk down the tiny isle you finally want to be in and stopping and staring at you bc you are blocking whatever they are supposed to be doing with their dog. THIS IS ABOUT THE GROOMING DEPARTMENT! In general I like the store, I think they have a good variety of items and I like the sales associates and LOVE the dog trainer Kristina. I am giving it a single star because they had to MUZZLE my dog and RESTRAIN him while cutting his nails. My dog was only 30 pounds when I last went there and he is a total sweetheart. The only reason why he was howling and trying to get away was because the lady cut damn near EVERY NAIL TOO SHORT! Almost every single one of his nails was bleeding when I went back to get him. Before they used to let me wait with him in the grooming area (because he has separation anxiety) but now their new policy is that you have to go pay while they do the grooming. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I have never been a big fan of Petco because they are pretty expensive. I will drive out of my way to go elsewhere like Target where I can save $8-$10 on the same products, like kitty litter and cat food. The only thing good about this place is that it is close to where I live which makes it kind of convenient if I'm not in the mood to drive to Target or Pet Smart. The other day I was in serious need of cat litter and looked on Petcos website and saw that they were having a good sale on the cat litter I liked so I decided to drive to this location and see if they were having the sale as well. The litter was priced at $19.99 in the store and $11.69 on the website for a 30 pound box, so I asked one of the employees if they honor the websites prices and the guy said they can't lower the price that much, which to me seemed kind of stupid. After trying to talk the guy into giving me the online price and failing, I went with the 20 pound box for $12.99 instead. I probably won't be coming back here anytime soon, they are way over priced. read more

It's Petco people, but still... I've never had any major issues here, but I usually go to the groomers so they can bath my cute but shed monster Shiba Inu. The groomers always seem really gentle with him, which I appreciate since he shakes like a leaf when he goes there. My only complaints are that I'd been a frequent guest (I'd go every 6 weeks or so) and then I randomly stopped going for about 3 months because I didnt have the time. Somehow I got deleted from their system and none of the original groomers who I normally see were there to recognize me. It's not that I care about being lost in their system, its that after a certain amount of washes you get a free one...I was due for my free one. Go figure. Also, it used to be $23 for my 22Ibs ball of fluff, now its $42! I'll probably look elsewhere to compare, I just go here because it's 10 blocks from my house. Another thing that I really can't stand is that when I schedule him, it's actually the time you drop off your pet. When I first went here I figured I'd be able to wait for him, no, they keep the dogs there for like 4-5 hours in crates! I dont know if that's how everyone else does it, but I didn't like that when I found out. What's the point of scheduling dogs if you don't work on them within a 1/2 hour or so? This isn't my regular pet store (that would be All The Best in Edmonds). I have been coming here off and on in the past year for random cat accessories, and I have only spent time in the cat section. However, we have just adopted a dog - and let me tell you...I had NO idea how disgusting this store is. This store is drenched in urine. Id give it one star but the customer service is really good. The workers are very friendly and engaging. Especially the ones at the small animals and register. I had one gentlemen at the register call a taxi for me when I forgot my phone and didn't want to take a baby ferret out I the cold rain to get to the bus. The reason why the rating is low is cause I bought a 15 week old male ferret from here. From the start he was very tired and not very playful. He even began getting aggressive. The first two days I chalked it up to a new and very different enviromemt. On the third day though he got an anal prolapse. I took him to the vet immediately worried ot was parasites or worse. Found out he was very sick and had to be put on antibiotics immediately. According to them its very common for ferrets from petco to be sick like that. Now that he's feeling better thanks to the vet he's very sweet, playful and not aggressive at all. He plays great with my older ferret and my rooommates kitten. One other thing id like to say is they have no good quality ferret food. I like to feed my ferrets evo as its got a really high protein content compared to marshalls which is what they carry. But the only place I can buy it is amazon. read more

I have a very small dog that gets cold easily. I always check for the extra small sizes in sweaters, but it seems like they have hardly any in stock in my dog's size. The only extra small dog apperal is costumes and things that are not suitable for Pacific Northwest weather especially since it's currently fall and winter is coming soon. I've been looking at other pet stores for my dog's sweaters, but PetCo seems to have the best selection. I am out of luck at this point. read more

Olivia did a great job trimming my (challenging) dog's nails. She had to go the extra mile in order to get it done-- my dog is extremely anxious and jumpy when getting her nails trimmed, and even though Olivia got quite a workout during the process, she was very positive and gracious about the experience. read more
