Been going here to grooming for years with no issues. My dog has NEVER even remotely snapped at anyone or any animal. The groomer was training a new person last time and she yanks on the leash with my dog and my dog got scared. The inexperienced employee then claims she's going to bite and refuses service. Now there's an unwarranted record claiming my dog was going to bite, when the employee was untrained and mishandled my dog. Wouldn't recommend this location to anyone anymore. read more

1 STAR -- ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE This was my first experience with Petco, and within ONE HOUR of becoming a new customer and signing up for a membership, Supervisor Noelle at the Torrance location managed to represent Petco in the absolute WORST way possible. I originally went to a different Petco location to sign up for a membership. While there, I explained what was going on with my Pit Bull puppy. The employee was extremely kind, listened to my concerns, and scheduled an appointment for my puppy at the Torrance location based on the type of service she believed my puppy needed. I later received a call from Noelle at the Torrance location. She asked me the same questions I had already answered when the appointment was scheduled. After I explained the situation again, I was suddenly told that my puppy's appointment was being CANCELED and that I would need to schedule another day for a "sick visit." I wasn't being disrespectful. I was simply trying to understand WHY the appointment another Petco employee had just scheduled was now being canceled, especially since my schedule is extremely tight. Instead of providing clarification or attempting to help, Noelle repeatedly talked over me, became argumentative and dismissive, and would not allow me to finish speaking. When I explained that another Petco location had scheduled the appointment after hearing the exact same information, her response was essentially that they don't work at her location and don't know what they're talking about. Then she HUNG UP ON ME and canceled my puppy's appointment. I went back to the original Petco location and explained what had happened. Their staff called the Torrance location themselves and confirmed that my puppy's appointment had been canceled. Even they appeared confused by how the situation had been handled. I asked to speak with a manager, and somehow Noelle was put back on the phone. Once she realized it was me again--this time with employees from another Petco location present to hear the interaction--she AGAIN talked over me, was rude and dismissive, and HUNG UP ON ME A SECOND TIME. That was all I needed to see. The employees at the other Petco location apologized to me for the experience and helped get my puppy scheduled somewhere else. I specifically requested another location because after this interaction, I DO NOT TRUST THE TORRANCE LOCATION WITH MY PUPPY. When someone is calling about their pet, they deserve patience, professionalism, and clear communication--especially from someone in a SUPERVISORY position. Hanging up on a customer TWICE because they are asking questions and trying to understand why their pet's appointment is being canceled is completely unacceptable. I have already contacted Petco Corporate and made it clear that I believe this complaint needs to reach General or Regional Management. This should not be brushed aside as a minor customer-service disagreement. A supervisor represents the company, sets the tone for employees, and is expected to know how to communicate professionally when a customer has questions or concerns. What makes this even more disappointing is that the employees at the OTHER Petco location gave me wonderful service. They were helpful, knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate. So clearly, this is NOT the standard of customer service Petco is capable of providing. Unfortunately, Noelle made an absolutely terrible first impression of this company. Imagine becoming a brand-new Petco customer, purchasing a membership, trying to get care for your puppy, and within the FIRST HOUR having a supervisor talk over you, dismiss another Petco location's employees, cancel your puppy's appointment, and hang up on you--not once, but TWICE. Completely unacceptable. Completely unprofessional. And absolutely NOT someone I would trust with the care of my puppy. I picked up the necessary sleeping, food, & toy supplies to welcome Pepper home. She contracted tapeworms & had fleas, & I took her to the Redondo Beach location to have her dewormed & gave her a flea bath; I had to take her back for a 2nd bath because she still had fleas. I've been coming here for about 2 decades. Prices are moderate - high, depending on the brand, & food & litter package size for kitten & cats. I can't comment on the other animal offerings. We also purchased a fish tank for the feeder fish win at a carnival, as well as necessities for a lizard. We have Western Fence Lizards in our complex as well as my former temporary office during the pandemic, where we catch & release. My cousin & his veterinarian wife were capturing the mother cats & their babies to spay/neuter them before the feral colony really got out of hand, & asked me if I was interested in adopting any. After a 1/2 year absence due to the passing of Pepper, we're back because we adopted a 5-week old feral Lynx Point Siamese that we named Snow. This l'il stinker is soooooo adorable & intelligent. By the time she turned 3 months, she can sit, shake, & high 5 on command with treats that we got from Petco. There's currently a buy 1, get 1 50% off; some of her favs are: Tiki Cat Soft & Chewy Tuna Cat Treats (currently 70¢ in-store only), Bonkers Catnip, Chick 'N' Cheddar & Seafood & Eat It Cat Treats, & PureBites Minnow Freeze Dried Cat Treats. I don't use the minnow treats for training because she'll go into a frenzy & attack/eat my fingers; the fish is like a drug & makes her crazy. LOL I only use it as a reward or after she learns a new skill. I tried their collars & she doesn't like the bell or the material. They're also breakaway & this girl will run whenever she gets a chance. Snow seems like she wants to be walked, so I'm looking for something sturdy next that will keep her safe & not escape. Haven't seen anything in-store that will work so I'm planning to look online. The staff here are friendly & helpful when you need something. Just be mindful of their promotions because they don't always ring up correctly; my most recent buy 1 get 1 50% off the Tiki cat treats didn't include the discount as well as the initial purchase of buy 1 get 1 free when I first adopted Snow & rushed to buy kitten food & treats. The store is clean & well-stocked most of the times (sometimes inventory run low or out of stock due to promo). I also like the long hours when we have to pick-up emergency supplies like food or litter, probably should sign-up for auto-ship to fix this issue. My appointment was at 1:45 p.m. I was running late due to work, so I called at 1:30 p.m. to ask whether I should reschedule. The staff member reassured me that it was fine to keep my appointment. I arrived at 1:50 p.m. When she looked at my dog, she immediately said he was matted. She ran a comb through his hair once and said, "See, if I can't comb through it, you need to reschedule because it's too late in the day to groom him. I would traumatize him if I rushed his grooming. Can you come back Sunday?" I informed her that he is brushed daily and is not matted. She then pulled out a brush and told me I was using the wrong type of brush. I explained that I use the exact same brush she was holding. She shook her head and said she could not start the appointment and that I would need to return on Sunday. I reminded her that I had called ahead to confirm that arriving slightly late would still be acceptable. Despite that, she refused to proceed and again told me to come back Sunday. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable leaving my dog there. I contacted the manager, who was apologetic and stated that he would speak with her. While I appreciated the apology, I still felt dismissed and that no real resolution was offered. The following day, I took my dog to Woofs & Paws Pet Spa on PCH. The service was excellent, and there was absolutely no mention of him being matted. Petco wasted my gas, my time away from work & your groomer is a liar. read more

I asked for a bag of crickets and she hastily insisted they were all out of crickets while staring at her phone as if she would rather do anything else than put 10 crickets in a bag. I also bought dubias for my leopard gecko and after I got home I found maggots infested in the roaches and container. Petco as a whole entity needs to do better from a customer service perspective as well as the basic upkeep of their reptiles. Love that it's so close to our home, very convenient. I needed a new Tag for my doggie the one he had was fading away a bit and felt it was time for a new one. The same Dodger Tag. When you go pick your tags out you have to pay for them first and then they give you a code you have to enter makes it so much easier. It was a quick process and I was out the door. We've gotten our dog food here as well and they have a lot of great options for puppy's, bigger dogs and pretty much any pet you own. I'm always careful with some of the ingredients that these treats or food may have cause it's not all healthy for the dogs and can make them gain weight like crazy but you just have to search for the good brands. They carry lots of great stuff tho. Love that they recently added a clinic+ total care for the dogs as well such a great place to do everything including grooming. The people here have always been nice and helpful if you need help finding something or just a simple question. They always have good sales as well with treats, clothes, and other fun gadgets for the pets you just have to look. Great spot to visit for sure. read more

I went to the Vetco for my cat first for a minor cough. Due to the medication he got diarrhea which I was not warned it would cause. Went back got him antibiotics for the diarrhea. And this is where the problem started. They gave me his medication in a bottle that the syringe didn't fit in causing it to leak everywhere. I somehow had enough for the first week of diarrhea. Come the second week he still has diarrhea. I take him back. Same thing on antibiotics, syringe too small for bottle leaks everywhere. So I called and told them they shorted me THREE DOSES of his medication. I went back picked it up. I didn't even have enough for 2 doses. I had to call again and they tried to blame me for not distributing his medication right away when I'm not a first time pet owner. I've had multiple pets that needed medication so I know how to measure a syringe to 1.5 ml and read the label. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe their scale was off and she cut me off and said "we don't use a scale we measure it out with a syringe." How was I supposed to know that I don't work in medicine. They told me I'd have to schedule another appointment pay for that and pay for the medication again. The vet techs manager is very rude and obviously doesn't know how to count because "she measured it herself." I called Petco and they said they will have the vet manager call me to find out what happened. I've received no call. So obviously they don't care and their vet techs don't know how to measure out medication. read more

This review is specifically for the grooming salon. I think the groomers themselves are nice but some of the practices Petco has in place are sketchy. Years ago I had a terripoo that I had been taking to Petco for grooming all of her life. One day I go in for her appointment, the girl looks her over and is ready to groom her, then someone else comes over and says we can't groom her. All of a sudden she's "too old" to groom. There was no warning and they happily took my money all the years prior. I had to take my dog and leave with no grooming. Now I have a large Sheepadoodle pup. He's been groomed six times in his life and for whatever reason he seems to struggle with certain groomers. The first time I took him to Petco I asked how he did and to my face they said he did great, but apparently behind my back they had a problem. Yesterday I booked online and I receive a phone call that my dog is basically blacklisted. So I ask why and the person says it was noted that he was "thrashing" during grooming sessions. If this was the case why wasn't it brought up the first time or the second? I will never do big business grooming for any of my dogs ever again and I recommend other pet parents do the same. They don't really care about the animals, they just care about their bottom line and quotas. read more

SCAMMERS! I took my boy cat to get looked at because he got sick and I knew he needed medication. They basically didnt want to see him if I didn't have proof of his medical records .. specifically the rabies shot. I told them I didn't have the records but he had received it a few months ago and I even pulled up the neutered voucher because thats all I had as proof. They then said I would have to pay for a rabies shot if they wanted me to get him looked at! WHY would I give another rabies shot? I was so mad and I ended up leaving! Petco is ok. It just doesn't have a large selection or even the items that you need at the store in Torrance. I get one thing there. Petsmart definitely has a larger selection of items in Torrance, but it doesn't carry the one item I get from Petco. Customer service is always nice, and the store is very clean. They are starting to expand the store, so maybe that will help with choices. read more

I really want to give it 0 stars . Petco's crickets fluctuate in sizes so I have to come to this location. Polite workers, however little to none sense of urgency . I waited 20 mins for crickets today . I only come at noon on a weekday. I come here 1-2x a week with some lag and wait as well but today's experience takes it to a whole different level. I've been going to this petco for a while for grooming. I've only met the mgr a few times. Something didn't sit right with me. Fast forward to where my dog was denied continued service. Kim the mgr for grooming(blonde older lady) was too quick to get off the phone with me. It was very rude and left me like I can't believe she would behave like that. Very fake nice personality. Insincere. The issue of my dog getting hurt in his last grooming was never addressed. I left that in the review that is sent by email. I will say she suggested some other grooming alternatives, but she was rude in tone. Sarah who grooms there was great. She was usually too booked. I am more than disappointed right now, I am furious! I took my little 10 month old Shih Tzu for grooming at Petco here In Torrance. When we picked him up "groomer" Torri said she was having a little trouble with him but she never mentioned SHE cut my dog several times! When we got home I notice he was licking himself like usual but when I noticed he kept doing it A LOT. That's when I checked on him and I found some horrible cuts on my little one. I was so furious because why Petco Hires people who don't know how to properly groom dogs! I understand maybe he was scared and was moving BUT I don't believe he moved that much for her to give him not only one or two or even three cuts it was 6! This is not the first time my dog gets groomed here, he has never come like that before. I believe it is only Torri who doesn't know how to do her job in a professional manner. This is Penny Lane, our energetic 12-year-old Aussie, and she was just denied service by Petco for being a senior dog. SEE VIDEO! When asked by the groomer if she has any medical emergencies, we responded "no" and kindly explained (as we always do) that she was hit by a car when she was 6 months old, so one of her hips isn't as strong. However, her hip works completely fine (see video taken the moment we got home after being denied). We asked to speak to a manager as we were very confused by this. Kimberly the manager was rude and no help. We were even told to try Petsmart. We've brought her to Petco for years without any issues. We recently moved to the area, and this was our first time making an appointment at this location. We have submitted a formal complaint, but after reading these Yelp comments, it seems that Kymberly has been rude, disrespectful, and discriminating against clients and dogs for years, and nothing has been done. I'm writing this to warn other pet owners about the grooming services at this Petco location. The experience was dishonest, unprofessional, and disrespectful--not just to me, but to my dog. I booked a VIP grooming appointment with Kimberly over a month in advance. When I arrived, she was just standing around doing nothing--then casually told me someone else would be handling my dog. What's the point of booking with a specific groomer if they just hand you off without explanation? I paid nearly $86 for a "VIP" service that's supposed to mean no wait and no kennel time. My dog doesn't need a haircut--just a quick bath and nail trim--and he's uncomfortable in kennels. That's exactly why I chose the VIP upgrade. But right in front of me, they put him in a kennel anyway. When I asked why, they gave me the usual runaround: "She'll be right with him," then "It'll take two hours," then "Let me check where she's at." Meanwhile, he's stuck in the back, out of view. And of course, when they finally bring him out, it's the same fake script: "He did great! He was so good!" Nothing about the experience felt honest or caring. It's like a production line--staff going through the motions, with zero transparency. Bottom line: Petco's grooming services--especially at this Torrance location--are not what they claim to be. Don't waste your money on the VIP label. It's just a higher price tag for the same subpar treatment. I won't be bringing my dog here again, and I don't recommend anyone else does either. read more

I just moved here from NC & underestimated how far down Crenshaw Torrance actually is, I went to their pet hospital because my dog has conjunctivitis, his eye looked horrible. I got there five minutes late & they told me they couldn't see him so my baby had to suffer until I could find someone else to take him. I knew they were racist in Torrance but it's very blatant here, I felt extremely uncomfortable and they were very dismissive about the situation. I know better than to make a mistake picking here but Petco has so many inconvenient locations that take actual appointments, you can walk into any Vetco but the hospitals are a janky case. Tori in grooming was AMAZING. My dog got anxious and aggressive when getting shaved - she was SUPER matted (I just got her, blame previous owner lol). Tori shaved about 80% of her and advised my dog may need to be sedated for the rest. I just appreciate her and allll the info she shared with me regarding my dog's diet and even provided some vets nearby that do grooming to finish up my dog. I'm a first time dog owner. I took my 9 yo shepherd/chow mix to get groomed, the woman came out and checked his coat. Basically telling me he's matted and they'll have to cut some out(his butt has always matted and he's not a fan of brushing). I told her his nails need clipped but he pulls his feet away when I do it at home and I'm afraid of hurting him. She takes him to the back and immediately walks out, asks how old he is and says he's favoring back leg(he wasn't, he's part German shepherd, that's just his gate). She immediately tells me I need to take him to the vet to be cleared to be groomed. I told her he just got his shots renewed and was seen by a Vetco vet, she tells me that I need to take him to a 'real' vet. The worst part about this whole interaction was her attempting to shame/guilt me because he had some matting and to assume I was not a vigilant enough pet parent to notice that my dog is in pain. I mentioned again that if he is favoring in any way it's because of his nails being too long, she told me to have a vet clip them. She genuinely just didn't want to groom my dog. He's been seen by this salon before, he was last groomed in November. I saw another review that this salon seems to be turning away older animals with a barrage of excuses and that is definitely what happened today. It also took me five minutes to be helped because she was on her phone sitting on the counter inside the grooming area and wouldn't come out to help me. The lack of customer service and the annoyance I was getting from them because she actually had an appointment was so frustrating. I'll be going back to Petsmart grooming next time, even though it's further from my house. read more

They have a 48 hour cancelation. I booked the appt 9 days ago and they wait until within the 48 hours to tell me that my dog (13 years) is too old for a bath. Do NOT take your Labradoodle here for grooming. Should have known from the beginning when the groomer(Brionna) wanted to do a poodle cut. Showed her a picture of similar cut but she was not confident. Had a trim around the face area but when we picked her up, it came out HORRIBLE. Cut was not even from left to right front to back. It's like this was the first time she ever groomed a dog. Even a kid would do a better job then her. Basically ruined the look of a puppy and made her look like an old dog. After trying to purchase this same tower at PetSmart , store which refused to deliver and store that told me the cat towers came assembled and impossible to disassemble for pick up, called PETCO which in a very profesional manner offered delivery and explained to me the item , same item I tried ordering through PetSmart, was indeed capable of disassembly, and in fact it came disassembled in a box ready for pick up or delivery. So needless to say, ordered it from PETCO which delivered the cat tower in its box as stated, easy to assemble and ready to be enjoyed by my cat. Thanks PETCO, excellent service , too bad PetSmart is not up to the challenge, probably not a store problem but an unprofessional store manager at the Torrance, CA location (Hawthorne at Sepulveda) , issue I hope too management learns about, because you u are losing clientele thanks to boorish attitudes from your staff at PetSmart PETCO, 5 stars and great business, you do care of clients and pets , thank you PETCO !!! read more
