We were enrolled in the puppy training class. It sounds like the trainer decided to quit last night very last minute, but nobody bothered to call. Tell anyone in the class this was the case. Showed up and no one was there. Talk to the cashier who just said "we'll let you know when we hire someone." I know for a fact that The majority of the Petco locally don't have trainers right now because they can't hire anyone... They're having such a hard time finding anyone to take on the classes. I asked about transferring to another class at another location and they said that would be fine. So I called the actual Customer service line... Which was its own "experience" And after having them Say they didn't know and reaching out to the store themselves they told me it wasn't possible to transfer the class and just refunded my money. Be upfront with people with what's going on. The store has been open a full hour before the class started and they could've easily called any of us to let us know that it was canceled. And rather than just some nebulous off in the future, we'll just get you back to class eventually... Each and everyone of us should've been refunded immediately so that we could book classes elsewhere if they were not transferable. Additionally, my dog is very car sick and even trying to get him down There is an ordeal so A phone call really would've been appreciated vs Making me put him through that for nothing and the absolute waste of time this morning we had. But before I started shopping, I asked an associate where the restroom was and he proceeds to tell me that they didn't have 'public restrooms'. I came to shop not use the restroom it just saw happened that nature called. I said ok and told him "that sounds weird in this city". I'll see what the city code officials think about this 'policy'. Petco is currently offering curbside pick up, which I accessed to purchase a fish tank and some supplies (and I also returned another time for fish food when I freaked out because my new fish weren't eating and I was convinced it was because I wasn't offering them enough variety). I ordered online and got a discount for picking up as opposed to the shipping option. I got a text message confirming my order immediately and both times my order was ready within 30 minutes! When I arrived at the store, the process was very simple. I called inside, told them my name and described my car, someone came out within 3 minutes and put the items in my trunk, and that was it! So easy and quick. I will for sure be back for all of my fish needs (which may not happen too soon because now my spoiled fish have a billion different foods). read more

I'm here only to review their Adult 1 Class with Tanya. We were lucky in that we signed up for a group class that never filled up. We received one on one training for six weeks. I reviewed 5 nearby pet trainers, between Petco, Petsmart, and local trainers. It was comparably easier to arrange a meeting with me, my dog, and the trainer with Petco. I brought my dog to meet Tanya and she loved her instantly. One thing I noticed that Tanya did was get down on her knees to welcome my dog. No other trainer did this during out interview process. My dog lit up to this type of greeting , and for a while stopped being crazy. I also went with Tanya because of how she responded when I expressed my concerns and anxieties for being a first time dog owner. My dog is very nervous and energetic, and I was thin on patience. She was very calm and encouraging throughout every training session. She always had a good reading on my dog; she had many calm, positive, and firm methods for regaining my dogs attention. Tanya showed me training can be a fun opportunity to bond with your dog. My dog especially looked forward to greeting Tanya every week. Tanya showed me how to teach obedience to my dog firmly and patiently. No good behavior went unrewarded, and no bad behavior went without positive redirection. Tanya was happy to answer any and all questions I had. She also had a lot of helpful anecdotes. I think for some it should be noted that she is willing to help you train your dog with a clicker, although we did not. We talked and practiced positive reward training with the phrases "yes" and/or a snap. read more

Looked up online a medication called zymox, for itching which both of my dogs have, anyway it lists Zymox spray for $13.99 for a 2 oz bottle, went to petco here in west valley city ut and she charged me $21.99 which is ridiculous, I guess this is how they screw you by charging more for buying it in store instead of online. Funny thing is I looked it up on petsmart also lists it for 13.99 and its available in store and they don't charge you for buying it in the store. Were done with petco read more

The West Valley Petco is the worst Petco I've ever been too. Before purchasing over $100.00 worth of merchandise. I inquired as to where the restrooms were located. The employee looked me over and promptly replied that they didn't have any restrooms. I again inquired about the public restrooms upon checkout. I was told very rudely by another employee that they didn't have any restrooms. When I pressed her as to where the employees went to the bathroom. She told me that they did have restrooms but that they are so dirty that she didn't even feel comfortable using it herself. Bottom line I think I will start shopping at Petsmart from now on. I'm sure they treat their customers a lot better. read more

I took my dog here on Sunday, the 23rd of April 2023. To start off, my appointment was at 9 am I arrived early and when a few minutes before 9 the lady came to the door and said they were not in yet and they were calling someone to come to do the grooming 9:30 they showed up. When they looked at my poodle, they said she would need a shortcut, but when I picked her up, she was shaved completely to the point she was an itching mess. When I got her home, her ear lobes were swollen on the end and have since turned into scabs as if she had them pinched by the groomer she was and is still a nervous wreck to the point she yelps and feels like she has to sneak up on her food and water to eat and drink it. To sum it all up, she is a completely traumatized animal. I have never seen her this way. I totally advise against going here. Appointments times don't matter as they are late to work and your dog will not be a happy one when you bring them home. Terrible read more

I DO NOT recommend stepping foot into this Petco location. The staff is less then helpful. I was informed what's on the shelf is it and nothing more will be coming in. Honestly this type of comment makes me believe that either they're not going to stay open for much longer or their employees just don't care. I asked if I could special order a 50# dog food storage container and there was no response the young lady just walked away. All I can say is WOW Petco you better get your staff in check!! I called to see if I could get Stella's nails trimmed she is a black Dorkie. They gave me prices and said we didn't need an apt. Which was awsome. Stella has one nail on her back paw that grows into her pad and we showed the groomer, she had us sign some papers because it was possible there could be some blood , long story short there was none . Stella did great took maybe 5 min and we were done. We will be going back on a regular basis. Love the fact we can just go in . read more

Such a great experience every time with grooming here. M'lyssa always does such an amazing job on both my large dogs grooming appointments. I have many other groomers I could take them to that are way closer to my house but I will always drive the extra 30 minutes to take them to her and know they are being loved and treated well. As far as selection, this isn't one of my favorite locations. It's not staffed as well, so at times there's literally no one on the floor. I did, however, come for their VetCo services on Saturday for my puppy and used the $5 coupon to have him microchipped and was very pleased with the service. The vet was knowledgeable, courteous, and gentle with my 13 wk border collie. My little guy didn't even fuss, though had some pretty hurt feelings afterward (probably toward my betrayal at having him chipped) They never seem to have any treats to hand out to the dogs, either, which I find odd considering how friendly Sugarhouse is with them. read more

I received an email that states I would receive double reward points for purchasing greenies (daily edible toothbrush for dogs). I saw that the 130 count teenie greenies were priced $44.99 while petsmart is on sale for $29.24. I asked one of the employees with and confirmed that she works there and she advised that the cashier will price match. As I come up to the counter, the cashier requested a manager as her discount is only up to 20%. The manager advised that he cannot prove match petsmart prices unless they were on the shelf. Of course, I had to throw a little attitude because the employee advised that petco would price match. The manager Robbie was so adamant that I pay the retail price and I requested to speak the employee to told me otherwise. Instead of honoring the price match, the manager even went as far as to confirm the price of greenies on petco advising that if it didn't match, I would pay the retail price. The price did match on Petco's website, but only then did he provide the discount. Pet o needs to better train their employees because this only creates poor customer service. The information they are telling customers are incorrect and they do not honor the price that was told. I have never experienced such poor customer service. I will also be writing to corporate to let them know of this poor experience. read more

Ever since adopting the stray cat I found after vowing to not adopt him ( what can I say he just got to me) I feel like a parent. This is all so much responsibility... Or is my cat just high maintenance? ;) Petco is a lot closer to me than Pet smart so I decided to check it out. It's located right by the Valley fair mall which I personally think is very smart to have in the middle of the mall and restaurants bc I'm sure they get a lot of traffic. Traffic=business. Yay! They have everything I need here. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Their pet fish selection isn't vast but the fish they do have are all beautiful and inexpensive. They have everything from gourmet treats, diet food, beds, toys, scratching posts and collars here for your pet. Be sure to sign up for their rewards membership bc it's FREE and with each purchase you make, you get 5% back. Hey it's free and you save some money so why not? Did I forget to mention they also have Ferrets here? :) After adopting Fatty Oliver ( yes the name is just adorable!) I no longer feel left behind by my friends who are all married and having children bc my cat is the strongest form of birth control there is. Lol I haven't had a pet since my childhood and taking care of my beautiful and stubborn cat has taught me that I am in no way ready for kids. What did we learn today? Don't have kids. Adopt an animal instead. Can I trademark this slogan? P.s- I love their return policy! You can return anything here within 90 days as long as you have the receipt. I bought a 50.00 scratching post for my cat who for some reason was afraid of it and wouldn't go near it so I returned it with no questions asked :) read more

Took my Little puppy 1.5 yr old and they charged me and did nothing, no trim no bath and I was in a rush and had never had this problem with a groomer. I see to it that she is well taken care of! Maybe okay for a short hair dog but definitely not for specialty cuts. If you do go check your dogcompletely. Especially nails! Never again! read more

I didn't give one star because it's not as if the store is dirty or run down I just have had two experiences with bad customer service. I came here at 9 am (which is actually when they open despite what this website says) . I was literally the only customer in the store but was told the staff was too busy to let me hold a pet for consideration of purchase. I said "I'm the only person here" and was told "yeah but we have a lot to do today " Like this said, this is my second bad experience with their lack of customer service. This is the least helpful Petco I've ever been to. Every other location has at least one friendly person asking if I need anything. I was looking for something to help with fin rot and a brusque man walked by and all he said was, "you can't have your bag in here. You have to leave it by the cash register." Then disappeared before I could ask any questions. Cash register is not well monitored. I finally found him again and asked my questions but he didn't give me much confidence, so I left without buying anything. Not friendly at all, aggressive if anything. We live out of town and made an appointment to have our standard poodle groomed. We dropped her off about a half hour before our appointment and asked how long it would take because we had play tickets for later that night. The guy told us 3-4 hours. When we called 4 hours after dropping her off they still were not done. When I asked how long till she was done they said she was still drying and that they couldn't have her done before our play an hour later. So I said we would just have to pick her up and would just pay for the bath. When we got there he had 'Pre Groomed" her and had shaved a strip right down the middle of her back. After 4 hours they had bathed her half way dried her and shaved a strip down her back. And then charged us 30.00 Never again will I use their grooming services. read more

I was in Utah for a week and needed my dog (11 year old Yorkie) groomed because of the brutal heat. I was very worried because the reviews aren't great for this location. I have to say it was a great experience. Although my original appointment was canceled because a groomer called out but the staff called me the day before to let me know and worked with me to reschedule the appointment and even offered a discount for the inconvenience. Everyone was very friendly, the staff listened to all my concerns and best of all the cut came out great! I'm very pleased with my dogs haircut and the staff at this petco location! The store is clean and the employees are normally accommodating. However, recently I had uncomfortable experience with manager Alonso for my refund. He acted irritated and unfriendly when he was asked to refund my Pet reward. He couldn't do it and told me to call the cooperate number on the receipt. After having the groomer pull up the notes on my dog and ask "so 2 inches all over?" And us saying "yes" we picked up our dog and he had been SHAVED down to about a half inch!!!!!! I called and asked them to look up the instructuions and she repeated again"two inches all over". So how why was she SHAVED!?!? She called the person who had done the "grooming" ,, it was the MANAGER! Apparently she said she wasn't sure what to do because the notes said "2"... She wasn't sure if it was 2 inches or a #2 shaver which is about 5/8 inch. "And she struggled with the decision". Are you kidding me?!?!? THEN CALL ME!! They had my number.. They called me to say he was ready. OH NO! Apparently they would rather just shave your dog instead of taking 1 min to call and check... Or even reread the instructuions in the computer since both times they were read to me the two different people said "2 inches". If you'd like your dog shaved you should be fine..otherwise go somewhere else!!! read more

My son and I came to the store and forgot to check the hours of operation. When we arrived, the automatic doors opened, so we assumed the store was open for business. We saw several employees and they made eye contact with us without saying a word. After some time in the store, we were ready to check out. The clerk, Heidi, who worked at the register rudely informed us that the store was closed. We apologized for our misunderstanding and explained we thought the automatic doors opening meant they were open. She snapped back at us and informed us that the doors were barely opened for the cleaning crew. We apologized again. She asked for our method of payment and my son said we'd use a card. By a simple mistake, my son handed her some cash only to have her bark at us that we had indicated we'd use a card. He immediately apologized again and handed her his card. In the end, a simple, polite reminder that the store wasn't open yet could have solved all of this. Instead, Heidi chose to be rude, abrasive, and contentious the whole time to a paying customer. We realize we came in during non business hours (after the fact), but her behavior was a terrible example of customer service. read more

I really love bringing my dog Duke to this petco. It's not the closest one to me, but it is my favorite. The staff there are very friendly and informative. Katie and Heather were very helpful with behavioral questions I had, and Mickey (manager I think??) helped me get my rewards coupons when they wouldn't load. Plus they gave my boy two treats. He's always so spoiled here. I come here often, and while they're not always the most staffed, they try very hard to make sure everyone gets the help they need if you're patient enough to wait a few minutes. I love coming here almost as much as Duke does. Highly recommend! read more

This place has the worst manager! Was absolutely upset with the service I received from one girl numerous of times. I had made a purchase of a vest for my dog and the cashier had said I can exchange and return if I have problems without a receipt for store credit. Weeks later the vest just was not doing well so we decided to exchange because we had lost the receipt. We walked in, and was approached by a lady named Amanda I believe, she cut me off numerous of times when I kept asking if we could exchange and she kept saying no we need to go and get the receipt - so we left. After reading the terms online it had stated that that was not the case, so we went back. We had our eye on a vibration collar to help our dog's barking issue and had asked Amanda to unlock the gate so we can get the collar, she agreed and we waited with no one in the end helping, so we went back and she asked why we needed it and We told her and she said it's not going to work and that's not what it was for, the item said "bark collar" I did not appreciate her attitude and her lack of customer service.
