Max is the laziest, sweetest, and cuddliest dog I have ever had. He's also my first herding dog. Boy, these dogs are so intelligent that it blows my mind! Before Alex, my partner and I were at a loss as to what to do about Max. He was getting worse and worse with his (leash) reactivity. In the home, he would just laze about and bring toys to us to play with him or would just play by himself. But we dreaded taking him outside on the leash because any dog we would see would turn him into a rabid zombie. Getting into contact was smooth and easy and we chose a drop off and pick up time. I am blown away by not only how knowledgeable Alex is when it comes to understanding dogs individually (Max's terrible reactivity got worse and worse because he had been going to daycare two times a week for ten months and had been getting bullied so now he gets into fearful attack mode - Alex's astute observation) but also understand me and my partner and correcting us on our behavior. He figured it out right away at our first pick up lesson after the training and my partner told him "heel" and Max looked at him and then "heeled" next to me (yes, Max is a total mama's boy). It's been a little over a month since Max has come home to us from his board and training. Is he a perfectly trained dog now? Not at all! Does he have a solid foundation that Alex trained him with and now my partner and I just have to train ourselves to communicate better with Max so we are all on the same page? Absolutely! Sending your dog to Alex (or any trainer) is not going to be a magical fix. Your relationship with your dog is just that--a relationship. Both parties need to keep working together until you're on the same page. I have texted Alex my questions (and, sometimes, my breakdowns of how terrible I must be at this) and he has always been willing to meet and do a training session and help us out. I have never felt blown off or ignored by Alex. His constructive and kind criticism has always been incredibly helpful and you can tell that he cares a lot about the dogs and want the dogs to be happy with their families. Max isn't perfect and he's still a 2-year-old angsty teenager. But he's trying his best to do what we want him to do and we are trying our best to tell him what we need from him. It was an awesome experience being trained by Alex. He trained me, my partner, and my dog, Goose, for six months as we went through three levels of training (puppy through advanced). Alex is very easy to work with and we looked forward to showing him our progress in class every week. It is great watching him work with different types of dogs. And it was super helpful when he used his dog, Troy, as an example to show us what was expected from us throughout our training sessions. Goose is my first dog ever so I had a lot of questions on training techniques. Alex answered every question and was super patient with my frustrations when learning how to train Goose. I am the ever skeptic but I cannot say enough good things about our experience with Alex. His personality is professional and casual. He didn't make us feel inept and supported with tact, our efforts and corrected our mistakes. Upon our first meet and greet, our rescue dog, who was skittish, reluctant to even leave our driveway and could not be in the same room as our other dog without being highly territorial quickly ran to him. We discussed our desires for our new fur baby and Alex was open and honest about what to expect. He answered all of our questions with patience and gave us "homework". I stumbled upon his reviews on Yelp. He offered a free assessment so I took him up on it. I was out of the way for him so we agreed to meet half way. First off, I know my dog is difficult as he has dog to dog issues so I did not expect any quick fix. Alex was not pretentious as some trainers could be nor did he promise any fix as there is no promises with dog training. I found him to be kind and honest. His rate was more than reasonable so I gave him a shot. I had five sessions with Alex. My dog still has issues and probably will for the rest of his life. But this was not due to Alex not trying or being good. He did what he could. What I appreciated was that Alex chose to not continue the sessions repeatedly because he did not want to keep taking my money. We came to conclusions that just meeting over and over was not going to solve my dogs issues. It will take managing it and he helped me work on that. I've never had a dog trainer and was highly recommended to Alex from my best friend. We have a full bred German rottweiler who is the biggest teddy bear you will ever meet but it has taken some time and work to get him as cuddly as he is now. Kody has never been a "bad" dog, but his breed is known to be naturally aggressive and possessive. We had Alex come to our home prior to our puppy, Kody, being able to attend his group sessions (due to vaccinations and age) and let me tell you that I was not expecting so much insight in just an hour! Alex immediately educated us on his temperament and showed us how to control his aggressiveness to start us on the right track to making Kody trainable and to create a healthy bond with him, along with giving us to-dos on potty training, feeding him, teething, and any other issues we were experiencing with him at the time. The one-on-one time you get from Alex in your own home is only one of the many benefits from his trainings. We also attend Alex's group trainings on Sundays which are so beneficial to the socialization of your pet! As a group, you practice and learn whatever lesson Alex has planned for the day but he is very good at still giving your dog and you the one-on-one attention you deserve and caters each lesson to the level of training you and your dog are at. I have not had one time where I felt "left behind" or "dumb" at these trainings. My girlfriend and I have each created a different relationship with Kody so sometimes he's a little stubborn, but Alex is incredibly patient and encouraging in us getting on the same level with Kody. Your dogs also socialize at these group trainings so it's good to know the "good" and "bad" behaviors to watch out for when you're going to a dog park and Alex is constantly evaluating our dogs to keep us educated and aware. Although he is a super busy guy, if I have a question or concern about Kody mid-week, Alex is always quick to respond. Alex is extremely personable and carries a level of professionalism that you will only appreciate more and more. I go to a dog park down the street from my house and I run into dog trainers left and right at least once a week trying to give me pointers on Kody regardless if I tell them that I have a trainer already. And if not with me, they are forcing their "knowledge" on other dog owners and it's honestly annoying and frustrating to be around when I am just trying to let Kody run and play. Alex's work speaks for himself and his business and you will never see him being a nag trying to gain clients and I highly appreciate his humility! When we got our little dog, Sasha (Chihuahua mix), she was very fearful of just about everything: doorways, people, other dogs, noises. We did two 90min sessions w/Alex and he helped us first understand Sasha's fearfulness, and then taught us step-by-step how to introduce her to new experiences, reward the behavior we wanted and redirect the behavior we didn't want. As we followed his instructions, we saw steady improvement and are so excited to report Sasha now walks through doorways with ease, barks only briefly with guests and then completely relaxes (she even sits with some people!), is curious and confident on walks, and plays respectfully with other dogs! I have been attending Alex's trainings for a few years now; both private and public. He worked with my first dog, Rylee, who is a Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix and now my newest member of our family, Ruby, our Black Lab/Weimaraner mix. Hands down, Alex is great. He is personable, knowledgeable, yet firm. For example, in private training with Ruby, he listens to our needs and tailors the training based on what I have explained. The tactics he uses (which come from his own innovative thinking) make sense, are fair, and easy for me to practice at home, comfortably. As a teacher, I can appreciate Alex because not only is he great instructor, he holds me accountable for what Rylee and Ruby learn (which is why I say he is firm and this is how you see results!) His own dog, Troy, is incredibly well-behaved and a great example of Alex's work. In his public trainings, he gets along great with everyone, and gives all dogs even-shared time. I have never met a dog who doesn't like Alex. With self-discipline and his expertise, I highly recommend Alex for dog training for any age, shape, size, or temperament. 5 Stars! read more

Alex did 3 sessions with me and my pit bull Luna. She is a certified therapy dog, but had been exhibiting some territorial behaviors that were worrying me. Alex was a great listener and came up with a plan to help me get Luna back in track and back working with kids. He was very flexible, patient and gave me a lot of insight into the roots of Luna's behaviors. Now she's back at work and doing great. Thanks Alex! read more

Alex did a wonderful job training our rescue terrier dog, Benny! His manners/obedience is much improved; as we continue his lessons at home. Alex sent videos of Benny's training progress, sent texts, and worked with us on scheduling, due to the virus and moving issues. We had been struggling with our 9 year old and 4 year old dachshunds. Barking and being aggressive towards other dogs on walks and very scared around people. By the end of our 4th session today we have totally different dogs. They are playful without being aggressive and so outgoing. I will always be grateful to Alex for teaching us how to train our dogs. Alex has been amazing with my young German Shepard. I've learned so much from him and been able to see immediate and really useful results. My puppy has been under socialized with people and other dogs. I found my puppy on my doorstep, without a collar, malnourished, dirty, hair was matted, he had fleas. After a search for owners no report was filed for this missing puppy. I took him to the vet, had him checked for a microchip, and filed a report with the animal shelter. I got all of his shots, vitamins, grooming etc. He was scared and timid. I initially thought he did not have vocal cords because he never made a sound. Now not only can he bark I will be continuing with Alex to make my Shepard a personal protection dog when he is the right age. We have really come a long way with Alex's help. My puppy has really gained confidence and is more secure. Right after the first session with Alex my puppy and I were able to walk on a leash without him walking me. He has learned commands. We are able to play and take walks without anxiety. He is less anxious at home. Prior to Alex I couldn't leave the house without coming back to a complete disaster. My Shepard is definitely thriving now and I could not be more pleased. Alex understands the psychology of dogs and what their behavior means. He has taught me how to interact properly with my dog and how my dog perceives things. He has transformed my puppy into a happy obedient dog that I enjoy spending time with.
