We happened to be nearby for a Doctor's appointment and passed here on the way there. When we arrived to the Doctor's office we called for a reservation and were offered 545pm for two(a rare & spontaneous date night). We left the Doctor's office and arrived to P.L. around 520pm. Friendly valet took our car and we entered. We were checked-in and advised to wait in the lounge area where the bar is. Not 5 minutes later we were seated. We received fresh bread(albeit cold not warm) and butter. We were promptly greeted by server Frank, who is very knowledgeable and assisted us with our selections. We decided on the wedge salad, one rib steak, and the crab cake(1) appetizer option, with mushrooms as a side. As our food arrived other tables started to join us in the side room with beautiful stained glass windows. The salad was very fresh and delicious. The crab cake was amazing, just pure crab, not lots of breading as filler. AMAZING!!!! A MUST-TRY!!!! We ordered the steak medium and it arrived perfectly pink in the center and hot off a hot plate with sizzling butter. CHEFS KISS!!! The mushrooms were whole and flavorful. Frank visited our table after each course to see if everything was fine and if we needed anything. Only experienced, tenured servers do this and even as he gained more tables to service he remained close by and available. I love that!!!! My husband wanted coffee so we ordered the apple strudel at Frank's recommendation and I'm so glad we did. It tasted like an old school recipe, maybe from the 1800's (one can hope&dream). It was accompanied by their famous SCHLAG which was divine!!!! If you're on a diet don't let anyone order it at your table because trust me, it'll entrance you, and you'll fold like a stack of cards. It's that amazing!!! Overall I'd give 6 stars if I could. Great place for celebrations like graduations or birthdays but also are welcomed just for a nice date night to enjoy their food and time with your spouse. Arrived on time. Seating area felt cramped and stuffed considering I booked the reservation a week prior. Everything felt rushed Steak was supposed to be the main event but it was just ok. Server didn't even bother asking how everyone liked their steak. Just put the steak on each others plate as if everyone likes their steak rare. Dinner | $100+ Last night, 5/3/2026 my husband and I along with our dear friends ate at Peter Lugers. We can honestly say it will be the last time. Part of the dining experience is the service. The food was good, no question. We had the rudest waiter that made the experience unpleasant. This wasn't our first rodeo there. We know we could be rushed or spoken to gruffly. But last night was on another planet. For years Peter Lugers was the steakhouse to go to....no longer. There are wonderful places out there that have equally good food and charming wait staff. Full disclosure, my family almost never goes to steakhouses because we have access to really great meat and are used to just firing it up ourselves. But we are huge fans of the Peter Luger steak sauce & we had visitors, so why not visit this iconic steak house which is conveniently not located in NYC proper? We arrived a little early for dinner, so the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. They had us sit for a second at the bar lounge while a table was being assigned to us. The ambiance really plays up the heritage of the Peter Luger brand. We were seated towards the very back of the restaurant. I really liked the area since it was not too dimly lit. We started with the breads and wedge salad. I love carbs, and I liked that the breads were a little heavily seasoned. Caraway seeds are not for everyone, but they are for me. The butter was not very flavorful or soft, but I guess that's being too picky for free bread and butter before the meal. I chose the wedge salad because I knew I'd want crisp lettuce with my steak & also this salad comes topped with chopped bacon. The same thick bacon that people order on the side! It felt like a two-for-one dish. I enjoyed both the bacon and the lettuce smothered in blue cheese. The bacon really was nicely cured. We got the steak for two, which came on a sizzling plate precut. We did ask for medium-- not my preference-- because my guests didn't really enjoy eating meat not browned up all the way through. However, the steak came out closer to medium-rare. Initially, the plate was hot enough for us to try to sear the pieces. However, I found that the plate cooled much more quickly than I thought. The flavor of the meat was very prominent and the seasoning was well executed. Creamed spinach was a bit of a disappointment. It just didn't really taste like anything except a little muddy in aftertaste. The onion and tomato were nice, thick slices that helped cut through the richness of the steak. I did write on the reservation that my guests were celebrating a wedding anniversary, and they brought out some whipped cream and chocolate even though we declined dessert! My boyfriend and I came back to celebrate his birthday on a Thursday night. We didn't make a reservation, but the wait wasn't long. We got a drink from the bar until they called us. We ordered a crab cake, a slice of bacon, a steak for two, hash browns, and creamed spinach. The crab cake was delicious and overall we enjoyed the meal. This restaurant is always busy, especially during the holiday season. Please note, they are cash only! We made a reservation for 2 on a Sunday evening and got seated a few mins after. They start you off with some bread, butter and their own house made sauce. We ordered the Steak for 2, Creamy Spinach, and 2 bacons. I didn't think the steak for 2 would be enough, but it was more than enough especially with other dishes and sides. The steak was cooked nicely to medium rare and was tender. For dessert, we ordered the Holy Cow which is vanilla ice cream with fudge and whipped cream. Their whipped cream is super heavy, so be sure to share this with everyone else! Came here on a Friday night without a reservation. Waited about 1 hour for a table. It is cash only Got the steak for 2 and ordered it medium rare. However, that's rare. I feel like for a steakhouse in which steak is their specialty, it should be perfectly cooked according to your preference. The steak is tender but isn't fully seasoned all the way. If we go at night, we get steak, but lunchtime means burgers. And these are so good. Unlike a diner burger, these are top notch. Mine came with a nice slice of raw onion. Hubby ordered fries with his and we split them. Mine was requested to be medium well. It came out rare. The kind waiter took it back and delivered a perfect burger. We also split a wedge salad. It was my favorite part of the meal. It comes with thick cut bacon, the sweetest cherry tomatoes, the freshest Iceberg Lettuce and Blue Cheese Dressing with tons of blue cheese. The waiter brought it out already on 2 plates for us. I could have had a whole one to myself and call it a day. I could only eat half my burger. We took it to go along with a piece of apple strudel and their world famous schlag. I don't even like whipped cream, but I could jump into a vat of schlag and be really happy. My mom chose to come here for her birthday dinner last night so I had made us reservations. It was pretty busy. I think our server was named Francisco, he was great. The food was delicious and I think reasonably priced. Its definitely a nice place to go with your family. We had the bacon to start which was good. I think my favorite of the night was the creamed spinach, that was so good! We had the steak for two, which my mom and I could not finish. I appreciated the bread basket. My dad enjoyed his steak and french fries. We then had the homy cow sundae for dessert which was classic and delicious. Overall we left full and we definitely will come back! Ok so I come here every Halloween. It's become tradition and to date they still got the best cooked steak. Is it expensive? Yes. But you won't find better anywhere. The crust/sear they put on the medium rare steak is the best. They will serve you up a few slices and then pour a bit of the oil drippings from the plate. A must. Who's watching their cholesterol anyways? I love their wedge salad too that comes with fresh blue cheese crumbles and their famous bacon cut up. Love the creamed spinach and the German potatoes. I went for an afternoon lunch with my sister. She was very eager to introduce this restaurant to me as she raved about the quality of the food at this steakhouse. We were escorted to the bar while our table was prepared. Even though, she had a reservation, it took some time so we had a couple of drinks at the bar. They were voted one of the best burgers in NYC so I thought I would give it another try. The service is phenomenal, the staff went above and beyond and our waiter was amazing and conversational. The burger was pretty good - better than red hook tavern and Emily's. Nothing that atonishing but just a good burger. The steak for 2 honestly was just okay as I remember. It's just blah. We had a 12:15 reservation and, as longtime customers, we were looking forward to the same experience we've enjoyed many times before. We often come for lunch specifically for the burgers, and when we come for dinner, we always enjoy your steaks. My wife was genuinely shocked when the waiter told her that burgers were not being served on Mother's Day. What made it even more confusing was seeing that burgers were still being served to children. It felt inconsistent and, unfortunately, it took away from what was supposed to be a special day for her. We've been to their Brooklyn location and we're in Long Island looking for a nice spot to celebrate a special occasion so decided to come here. We called in advance to make a weekend lunch reservation. On arrival, we were moved to their lounge/bar area for few minutes before being seated. Service was friendly, professional, and prompt which is always nice. We ordered steak, lamb chops, and sides of asparagus, potato, and mushrooms. As expected, the stars of the show were the meat. The bacon appetizer was insane, my wife said that it was one of the best things she's ever eaten...until we had the German potatoes. I got the lamb chops and she had steak for one. We also had creamed spinach. Everything was fantastic and most of it came home with us including the bread and an order of strudel to go. My favorite part was my waiter; when he put each dish on our table he said "you're going to love it." And, we definitely did!! You'll know him because he does a Tony Manero (Saturday Night Fever) imitation when he brings you your Peter Luger takeout bag. Steak and NYC for dinners go hand and hand. NYC has a crap ton of steak houses. Picking which one to goto will have you hitting any borough from Manhattan to Brooklyn to Queens. Peter Luger's is probably the most famous steak house in the world. But when you get to that point everyone judges you harshly. And while I enjoy the steaks there it was nothing to be wow'ed by. It's good but not the best. The steak was cooked to my desired doneness. Just overall an OK steak. The best part of the dinner was the slice of the bacon. Def go get that as an appetizer. Service is great though. The waiters are very attentive. Cash or debit only, which also lowered its store, it's 2025... I get those cc fees can add up, but when charging over 60-75 a steak or 155 for a steak for 2, it's fine. read more

We had an 8:15 PM reservation on Valentine's Day, arrived on time with our two children. The waiting area was extremely overcrowded shoulder to shoulder with people, chaotic and very uncomfortable especially with kids. There was no available seating in the waiting area so we were standing the entire time with two hungry children in a packed space. There was also no clear organization or communication from the host stand about expected wait times. Around 8:50 PM, I checked in again and specifically asked whether we should continue waiting since we had children who were getting hungry and tired. We were told it would be just a few more minutes. Another 25 minutes passed with no update and by 9:10 PM, nearly an hour after our reservation time, we still had not been seated. We ultimately had to leave because the environment was not manageable for children and there was no transparency about the delay. We understand that Valentine's Day is busy but the issue was not the wait itself. The issue was the lack of honest communication and the overcrowded disorganized waiting situation. If we had been told upfront that the delay would be close to an hour we would have made a different decision. We have been patrons of both Peter Luger locations for years but tonight was the last straw. The complete disregard for our time and for the time of everyone waiting was extremely disappointing. For a restaurant at this price point and reputation, better reservation management and clearer communication with guests should be expected. We had an amazing time at our annual visit to Peter Luger Steak House for our son's 16th birthday. This is the one fine meal we look forward to all year. It's definitely a splurge, but always worth it. We even keep a fun little tracker of how much we've spent here over the years to see how prices change. It's become part of the tradition. My son, as always, got his steak for two. My husband ordered the prime rib. My daughter had her go-to burger with bacon and cheese, fries on the side. I decided to change things up and went with the massive lobster. Everything was juicy, tender, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. We also got the shrimp cocktail, crab cocktail, and the lamb appetizer--which was huge and could easily be a full lunch. The creamed spinach was very tasty. For dessert, we had the Holy Cow sundae--still unmatched. Honestly, I wonder why we don't come just for that. We also tried the chocolate mousse cake (not pictured), which was delicious, and the German coffee--sweet, strong, and ultimately passed on to my husband since I'm not a big drinker. This might cause controversy but I think the meal I had here was better than the one I've had in Brooklyn! Maybe because it was less busy and we had lunch instead of dinner? I know this isn't the original but it's definitely one of the better options for steak! We also got to try the burger which was pretty much still mooing but it was super tasty! For 5 adults and 3 kids, we got a couple slices of bacon, a burger, a salad, 2 steaks for 2 (he recommended doing it this way instead of steak for 4 to get more meat) and a salmon for the kiddos. Wow. Hadn't been to Lugers in a few years. Have been to many other steak houses. Went for a few friend's birthdays. We had a table of 10. The food was ridiculously good. We started with a chopped tomato and onion salad with raw shrimp. Wow. Never thought to add shrimp before. That and a slice of their bacon. Definitely the best of the steak house bacons. I don't see the hype. The place is like a time capsule. The bathroom reminded me of my elementary school bathroom pre renovation. Now the food: the steak was expensive and nothing to write home about. The Luger steak sauce is just cocktail sauce. Bread at the table tasted like it had been left out for a while. You're still doing cash only and charging a premium for the same, if not slightly worse steak that you can get at any decent steakhouse? No thank you.
