The food we where served a farmer's salad mixed greens, goats cheese, apples, mushrooms, walnuts with balsamic vinaigrette. The main corse I choose rigatoni primavara. The food was tasteless my salad had no apples in it the vinaigrette I didn't like the flavor. The rigatoni I didn't care for the sauce the only thing that was good was the bread. Some so my coworker's choose the eggplant parmigina they enjoyed it. Some had the glazed salmon it wasn't alot of glaze on it people was saying it was dry and the rice had no flavor. Really? Have I never done a review for this place? I've been to Galo many times.... maybe it's just been an oversight on my part. I'll start by saying that I've never been disappointed. The service is always great and those rolls should be illegal (they are Parker house style rolls... I could really just eat a pile of those for dinner). Every time I visit, I try to taste something new. I mostly stick to the salads because I'm trying to be "good".... but the dinner rolls tend to throw me off my feeble low calorie attempt game. My dining companions have had everything from steaks...to crabcakes...to burgers and...never a complaint (always a rave). This is our go-to spot when I'm in the neighborhood if we aren't trying something different. Galo is a convenient, solid and predictable spot that has something on the menu for everyone. FYI- Sometimes it can get a little bit loud in the bar area, so if you can get a table in the dining room, it'll be easier to have a conversation. I came in on a Monday night specifically because of the $9.95 burger and sandwich special. I dined with my wife and daughter, and we both ordered from the burger and sandwich section. I ordered the Tavern Burger with cheddar cheese and bacon added, and my wife ordered a steak sandwich. The burger itself was disappointing. The bun began to fall apart halfway through eating it, almost completely disintegrating. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium, and while it wasn't raw, it was noticeably under medium. I still ate it, but overall it wasn't enjoyable. The menu states the burger is 10 ounces, but what I received looked much closer to 6 ounces, which added to the disappointment--even at the discounted price. The staff was fine and reasonably attentive, especially considering it was a Monday night near the end of their shift. The atmosphere was what you'd expect from a dimly lit, casual American bar-style restaurant, but that alone didn't make up for the food quality. I also want to note that the Monday deal applies to both burgers and sandwiches, but only the burger was discounted on our receipt. I didn't dispute it at the time cause I just didn't even want to bother but it was still frustrating. Overall, this experience left me pretty disappointed, and I don't see myself returning. The only reason I might consider coming back would be for the Thursday 42-ounce steak special, but otherwise this will likely be my last visit. read more

Came here on a Thursday night kinda last minute, so I didn't make a reservation. We walked in at around 8pm. We sat down and ordered drinks. I had a Patron Margarita on the rocks with salt. Very nice! We also had the Angry Mule and a Coke. We ordered the black bean burger, mini burgers with fries, and had to try the vodka chicken parmigiana. The drink was great and our server was nice. He was a little busy, but managed to take good care of us. The chicken was so good. I got three pieces of perfectly fried chicken cutlets with a creamy vodka sauce. It was served with mozzarella on top. It was served with spaghetti in the same vodka sauce. I have to say, I was happy at the amount of sauce they used. Nothing was swimming in sauce. The mini burgers are always a hit for the picky eater. The black bean burger was reportedly great and fresh. The price was right and the place is clean. The tables, table clothes, silverware, glasses, plates, and napkins were all very clean. We always enjoy coming here. 3.75 I saw this local spot come up several times while looking for restaurant/dinner recommendations in the Floral Park area, so my wife and I decided to check it out. Parking is pretty easy, as it's surrounded by residential homes on both the north and south sides of the restaurant. When we walked in, we weren't sure if we were supposed to go right to the bar area or left, as we didn't see the hostess for a few minutes. When she finally arrived, she seated us at the smallest table, even though the dining room was mostly empty on a Wednesday evening at 7 PM. The dining room was dark but definitely had some character. After you order, fresh bread is served. I wasn't expecting that, but it was a welcomed and tasty surprise. The fried calamari had a nice breading with the right amount of seasoning and came with marinara sauce and chipotle mayo. We also ordered the Bone-in Cowboy Steak with rice and mashed potatoes, as well as a Filet Mignon with fries and broccoli. This is where the size of the table became an issue. With the Cowboy Steak and the sides served on individual plates, table space became limited. We asked for both steaks to be prepared medium-rare. The cook on my Cowboy was spot on; unfortunately, my wife's Filet was more on the rare side (though it was an easy fix since the Cowboy came on a grill plate). Although both steaks came with sauces (a port wine reduction for the Filet and chimichurri for the Cowboy), they did lack seasoning. The sides were decent but also needed a bit more flavor. The flavor of the ribs were on point and the sweet potato fries had a bit of a crunch to them. The service on the other had , although friendly, was slow. Our waitress was pleasant, however, in the later stages took long to get dessert menus, coffee, and to get the bill. This of course would be understandable if the restaurant was packed with patrons. The food was all very much bar-type food. Fried calamari, spinach dip, fried chicken, quesadillas. Would I have gotten any of these for dinner? No. Were they altogether good? Meh. It's hard to argue against free bar food. But it was very much average. Parking is easy enough. The drinks are not so varied but they'll probably have a fine version of what you want (in my case, pinot noir). Recently just came here for my niece's communion. I was surprised that it was really packed and the food was pretty good. I'm not sure why they have low rating reviews. We went to this restaurant on the right night! Went here for my dad's birthday and I was definitely craving steak. Lucky for me, we went on a Thursday where they have steak night, in which select steaks are 50% off. My brother and I ended up splitting the 42oz porterhouse between us which would have been $120 but instead was $60 because of the discount. Totally worth it! I can't believe I've overlooked this restaurant for so long and I throughly regret it. Finding neighborhood gems is my favorite, and I can't wait to come back again! They take reservations which was acknowledged and we were sat quickly. It's a very nicely decorated tavern feel with a long full service bar. Our waiter was cool, and made great suggestions. We've ordered from this place several times. I have to say the food is a bit on the inconsistency side. Ordered the Grilled Chicken on a Focaccia bread with fries, Tres Leche' ... Oh wait they gave me a Chocolae Souffle instead? & Baked Potato Skins. First off the Grilled Chicken came out dry. The Focaccia Bread was soggy on the bottom and dry on top. The fries was definitely double fried but with old oil. I've worked in several restaurants and always hated how some places likes to save on that. There was also no flavor at all to the sandwich which was a let down. The Potato Skins was probably the sadest I've seen. 100% it was old and reused or was pre made and you can taste the refrigerator flavors in that potato. That was a big no-no. As for the Souffle... I don't normally eat chocolate and I would've appreciate the owner or the host or whomever that takes cares of the orders calls us and just let us KNOW that they 86'd Tres Leche's instead of just auto subbing it for us without knowing if we even like to eat it. Disappointing to say the least. We organized a group outing of 9 people to welcome back a colleague from maternity leave. We of course asked her to bring her child with her and we purposely picked a corner booth at 4pm. The staff were rude and reacted very negatively to the presence of a child-acting as if the child's baby carrier was taking up excessive space. In sum, they embarrassed my colleague and behaved in a manner that can only be described as revolting. Now the porterhouse was half price, as was the cowboy steak we ordered so that was easy on the wallet. But I'd totally return to try other dishes as this is not their expertise but totally perfect for a Tavern. The steaks were good and served on sizzling hot plates - which I didn't expect. Also accompanied with two sauces which I thought I wouldn't need but just wanted to try for the taste. One was a chimichurri blend - lots of parsley and olive oil. The other like a brown gravy. Both were delicious in it's own way but I like my steak without sauce to taste that umami it naturally has. Had dinner reservations for 4 on a Saturday night. There is not much of a waiting area so everyone was standing by the door or outside in the freezing cold waiting. Thankfully I had a reservation so there was not a long wait but still uncomfortable trying to stand by the hostess stand and out of the way of the door but yet you are on top of tables where people are eating. Nonetheless, the restaurant has a very nice ambiance. We were sat in the banquet hall area, and were only the second table to be sat in that area and seemed to have been forgotten about. A young lady came over to give us water glasses and advised our waiter will come over and serve our water (which he did 2 minutes later). He never introduced himself, said anything to us, and then walked away. Another group of Latino people came and were seated at table next to us. He immediately went over and had a whole conversation with them, brought them the complimentary bread/rolls, and took their drink and dinner order while we were still waiting. We are also Latino, but I guess didn't look it enough. I usually don't write anything about race disparity in my comments but it was clear as day what he was doing. The same young girl that came to us earlier asked us if we were advised of the dinner specials. We told her no and that nobody has came over to take care of us. She ended up being our waitress the rest of the night. The complimentary bread/rolls they give you are really good and fresh. They are served in a small round metal dish and taste similar to Hawaiian rolls (4 of them come in one). I ordered the skirt steak which comes pre-sliced and was very flavorful, and had great seasoning. It comes with two sides. The mash potatoes were very good, fresh, and flavorful. Only downside is I definitely don't think it was the 16 oz it says on the menu. I also tried a piece of the baby back ribs with just the dry rub they use (no sauce) and they were extremely flavorful and had a good bite to them. The restaurant got extremely busy the longer we were there. I definitely recommend making reservations. I was advised when you come during the week, you are able to be seated in the main dining area and you receive much better service. A table that came after us and was seated next to us was also supposed to be served by our original waiter. One of the girls asked for a glass of wine and the guy disappeared for 15 minutes and never brought her wine. The manager came over at one point and asked if everything was ok. They explained they have been there for 25 minutes, the guy just asked them what drinks they wanted, all they wanted was one glass of wine and the guy never came back. The manager then told another young lady to take their order. The lady then boldly told them "we are getting busy tonight so I suggest you get an appetizer because it will be a while for the entree." After the lady took their order, the guy returned with the glass of wine. They ended up waiting a hour for their food and all they got was a hamburger! That lady and our waitress ended up switching back and forth the whole night to take care of them because the guy never took care of them. Then there was another table two tables over telling the guy that he went to have a sip of his beer and wondered why it tasted funny only to find out the waiter brought him the wrong beer. He was too focused on the one table and never really took care of anyone else and when he did, he screwed it up. I ordered an apple pie for dessert and was advised after 15 minutes it will come soon, it takes longer because they have to heat it in the oven. How long does apple pie take to heat up? Well when it finally came out, it was not even warm. It was cold. The gelatin on top of it was gooey because it was not warm or hot and the ice cream on top of it was not even melting (which is definitely an indication it was not warmed up). It tasted decent but probably would have tasted better if it was actually warmed up like they said they were doing. At that point we were there too long and I didn't want to send it back. Food most importantly was DELICIOUS with lots of flavor, excellent value and my family and I were saying after everything we ate - how surprised we were that we had never tried this local gem.
