This review is regarding the clam bar side of the establishment. Was there yesterday and was disappointed in the food. Their "baked clams" are actually stuffed baked clams, but they list them as baked clams. I have been ordering those for no less than 30 years. $16 for some recycled clam shells a lot of bread and some canned clams and seasoning. Very disappointing, especially when they were first serve to me and they were ice cold in the middle. They did not have the flavor nor amount of clams that they had in the past. Had the Manhattan clam chowder, and it was watery, clam less and lack the flavor of years gone by. Raw clams and accoutrements were delightful. Beer was cold. Plenty of staff and all nice sweet kids. I don't think any of them have been working there more than a week. In conclusion, I understand why they have to charge what they do, but you can't have it both ways, you need to deliver on the product. Place looked good like always. read more

Food itself was good, but unfortunately I found a hair in my dish which completely ruined the experience. That's a basic cleanliness issue that shouldn't happen at a restaurant like this. Service and atmosphere were fine, but situations like this make it hard to fully enjoy the meal. I hope management takes food safety and quality control more seriously moving forward. read more

Our friends took us here by boat. It's their go to place for buckets of muscles. It was a gorgeous day and we sat outside. It was very comfortable and as the old dump across the water is covered with grass, the views were pleasant. I loved my bucket of steamers; i can't recall the last time I saw this former Long Island staple on a menu. My fish sandwich was odd. The flounder was excellent, but served open face on a few slices of white bread toast. The crab/shrimp salad was also good. My friends enjoyed their chowder too. Service was friendly and attentive. One of the staples whenever I go to Long Beach! The place has ample of parking along the side of the main road before the bridge, in the lot right outside the restaurant, as well as an additional lot across the street. There is a clam bar on one side, a fancier in house dining, as well as outdoor seating in the back by the deck looking across the marshes. I've Sat at all 3 places and my favorite view is definitely the back outdoor deck! The employees are very nice and greeted us upon walking in. My dad and I shared a Manhattan clam chowder, half a dozen blue point oysters, a lobster roll, and an order of baked clams. The Manhattan clam chowder came with the mini sized oyster crackers which elevated the texture of the soup! The soup itself was delicious - flavorful without being overly salty nor was it too oily. Perfect consistency and definitely my highlight of the meal. As for the oysters, they were very good and big too! I usually order the steamers as well but it would be too much food for 2 people! My go to at every seafood place is baked clams! This place makes it a bit different as the clams are cut into tinier pieces mixed within a thick layer of breading. Much to my surprise, this was my least favorite item for the day. As the lobster roll, they usually come cold but since it wasn't busy the waitress allowed for us to request it hot and with butter. Although it was quite expensive, it came with a lot of lobster meat and the pieces were big too! I wished it didn't come with fries though because the toast was already too much carbs. A great place for date night, or family dinners, you can't go wrong at Peter's! Located right on the waterway, it's beautiful scenery while enjoying dinner and good company. We stopped by over the weekend to have dinner with the family when celebrating a birthday. Everything came out great, and everyone was happy. The service was great, we were take care of immediately. There were several dishes ordered, but I had the lobster mac and cheese along with the surf and turf. The Mac and cheese were really good. The surf and turf was cooked how we liked it, and it was tender and flavorful. Definitely a must try if you're looking for an evening dinner place, or even a lunch date. read more

There's outdoor seating facing Long Beach Road for the "Clam Bar" portion, and then there's the "Clam House," which I assume is their more formal dining area. We ate in the house section, and it was a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't call it modern or upscale, but it definitely isn't your typical local seafood shack with wooden decor and ocean-themed paraphernalia everywhere. The servers were friendly--ours was totally cool with giving us extra time to decide, which we appreciated since it was our first visit. As for the food, we ordered the baked clams, lobster mac & cheese, po' boy, and clam strips. The standout was definitely the lobster mac & cheese--it had just the right amount of creaminess and lobster. The fries that came with the po' boy and clam strips were also well-cooked. The rest of the dishes were okay, though I do wish they had a bit more seasoning. One plus: the portions are generous, so we ended up with leftovers to take home. Would I come back? Definitely. Excited to try someplace further from where I live. My friend and I made plans to come and saw that we couldn't make a reservation for 2 people. So we played it by ear and went when we could, for Restaurant Week. The menu was nice sized, with plenty of choices. Imagine our surprise when we arrived, there was only 1 other couple in the dining room. What a cute spot, located on the water, we must return another time to see the view. The dining room seemed to have been renovated with tasteful fish scale walls, beautiful aqua blue glass tiles and giant fish adorned on the walls. Our server Addison(Edison?) was very polite. My friend ordered a Cocoloko-tini, which was beautifully served but not worth the $17. She had the lobster bisque to start and I ordered the fried calamari. She said there were a couple of pieces of lobster in it and my calamari was average fare. We both opted for the fried seafood platter, which consisted of flounder, shrimp, clam strips and scallops, served over a huge portion of deliciously hot French fries. There was coleslaw, ketchup and homemade tartar sauce served on the side. The portion was so big, that it supplied 2 more meals (snack and lunch)! Desserts was chef's choice. They offered us cheesecake with raspberry sauce, carrot cake and red velvet cake. No pics of dessert cause I forgot. Couldn't pass up the $29 price for restaurant week! read more

This visit was a real disappointment. We started off with the chowders - New England better than Manhattan (the Manhattan tasted old with lack of flavor). The calamari was too cold by the time it got to the table. We looked forward to our entrees, but it just got worse. The lobster in the grilled cheese did not taste fresh at all, and the salmon burger was "ok" at best, as it was the safest thing we had. The french fries were warm and got us through the meal. We tried to let management know about our meals.They took off the cost of the chowder and calamari, but the total after was still not worth it ($146). This used to be a staple for the area, but it has definitely lost it's touch. The people are nice and the view is great, but getting food here is not a pleasant experience. read more

This is my first review here and visit but I can't imagine that I haven't been here before since I know about Peters since I'm 15 and friends of mine came here all the time. My group of five were greeted by multiple very happy hostesses which really sets the tone for how the experience will be. We were escorted to a lovely round corner table surrounded by windows to an amazing view of the patio dining and surrounding water. Overall, it is a great atmosphere here, especially with many people coming back from the beach Since the restaurant was not too busy we were able to comfortably sit and talk for a while prior to ordering. The wait staff here is fantastic and detailed. They are a comfortable group to work with. Here is a summation of our food: Appetizers: - Fabulous-tasty New England clam chowder - Wonderful Manhattan clam chowder - Clams on the half shell - Cold, fresh and very tasty - Fried Calamari - Great crisp outer coating and tasty squid Main Meal: - Linguine with Clam Sauce - Plenty of clams and tasty linguine - Fried Clam Strips - DELICIOUS - a very heaping portion of clams with fries and coleslaw. I've been to this place about five times now, and I have no reason to complain. I was there last year for Restaurant Week, and for my pre fixe option for an appetizer, I got the Steamed Mussels. I forget what the people I was with ordered, but they brought me a full bucket of mussels. They were amazing. I went today with my dad and brother. Each of us opted for the Lobster Roll. It came with a side of very fresh French Fries and a side of coleslaw. The Lobster Roll had a nice amount of meat and was perfect. The fries were also nice and crispy, and served hot. The coleslaw was kind of meh and gluey, but I never expect much from slaw, TBH. Somehow, every time I'm there I get the same waitress. The same table, too, for that matter. Just by chance. I wish I were better with names, because she was awesome. She's always attentive and comes back regularly to see if you need anything and if everything is to your liking. For that matter, the hostess and other staff are also very friendly, each one greeting you on the way in and out. It took us all day to figure out where we wanted to go to lunch. It wound up being dinner. The pictures don't do it justice. It looks like you're sitting outside on a main road. If you like it that way, go for it. It actually looked nicer in person. We got there right before 5pm and turned into the parking lot with few cars in it. It's a very humid, hazy day, but as soon as you walk inside, the AC calms you down. We were greeted with smiles by the staff. The dining room was beautiful. I had no idea how romantic it looked. We asked if we could sit outside in the back because supposedly it's on the water. I didn't see any water around, but WOW! As soon as we got back there, it was beautiful! We were right on the water and right next to a marina. If this isn't a hidden gem, I don't know what is! We were greeted right away by Jenna, the sweetest, best waitress ever. We couldn't decide what we wanted, except I knew I wanted a dozen cherrystone clams. Poor Jenna came back multiple times and came with the best smile when we had questions or couldn't decide. Finally, I also ordered pasta with clams, which I've had a hankering for for weeks. It was good and I have more than enough leftovers- including the key lime pie I took to go. My husband NEVER claims he likes a meal; he'll always say it's good or it's fine. Well, between his crab cake and the seafood fra diavolo, he has not stopped raving about the food. Today we wanted an outdoor locale so we opted for lunch on the outdoor deck, which was very nice. The food, eh. Clams were delish of course, steamers were very good. New England Chowder was thin, lacked clams and spice. I ordered the cold seafood salad, very bland, needed herbs, garlic, salt.......just about everything, the actual seafood was cooked well. The linguine white clam sauce had 3 fresh clams and the rest were canned clams that were chopped into bits. For a restaurant that's called a clam bar, you would think they'd make great clam dishes. The fish sandwich we ordered was held together by 2 slices of white bread. The bread wasn't toasted or anything. It was just plain, straight out of the bag, white bread that was probably picked up from stop and shop, honestly. I was expecting maybe a brioche or just anything other than cheap bread. It was quite unimpressive. NE clam chowder tasted good, but there weren't any detectable clams in the bowl. Honestly, this place has gone downhill. This place is the epitome of after beach eats, if you like seafood. The seafood menu is plentiful and the menu is shellfish based. The baked clams were good, but I'm new to clams so I can't compare to much. I can say they were tasty and not fishy, the stuffing mixture was mashed potato like, which I think is the goal. The service can be interesting, because you can only order certain things from the outside window, which is the first thing point of contact made when walking up to the place. The servers can seem a bit dismissive by telling you, only specific things can be ordered from the outside. A bit more notice would be nice. The outside window sits on the side of Long Beach road, which can be noisy but is on the way for many in coming to and from the beach. It's super casual and convenient, with a parking lot very nearby. If you are dressed casually and still full of sand, this is a nice option, you will not feel out of place. I decided to meet an old friend at Peters Clam Bar for lunch. I have dined here many times, before, both in the indoor dining room and the outside deck area. This particular day was sunny and a great day to sit outside and watch boats cruising by. Since the name of the place is Peters Clam Bar we both thought it appropriate to order clams a few different ways. We started off with a dozen cherry stones on the half shell. That was followed by a baskets of fried clam strips. No reason to stop there so we continued with steamers and baked clams and washed that all down with a couple of ice cold taps. Each dish was perfect and the service was attentive and friendly. Plenty of parking available. Stopped by for two takeout seafood dinners on Good Friday. While waiting my husband ordered 6 Cherrystone clams. When we arrived home and looking forward to our dinner together there was no tartar sauce or cocktail sauce. As I frantically searched my cabinets, there was none. I did find an expired bottle of ketchup in the fridge which I couldn't bring myself to open. So, I ate 3 of my dried rubbery shrimp, threw out my cold fries and enjoyed my peanut butter sandwich for dinner! Moral of the story.... If you have to ask for tartar sauce or cocktail sauce in a seafood restaurant, don't go! read more
